  1. How exciting! I see 5L and 15L beams in blue, the latter of which hasn't been issued in a set since 2004!
  2. Very nicely done seating and rink!
  3. Thanks for pointing this out! I'm planning to upgrade my order to 4 to create a 4-story duplex. I'd love to see a hospital as the next modular set, assuming the pattern holds.
  4. Quite possibly the best modular I've seen--a must have for sure!
  5. If you opened a business, would you use your competitor's catalog and data? Would you expect your competitor to remain cordial? So yes, the hacks, the syncing, etc is asking for a response. By the same token, if I were BL, I'd review and replace contributed content as much as possible to place a stronger stake on ownership.
  6. A few thoughts from a buyer: BO was asking for trouble by so liberally syncing / referencing BL, regardless of who really owns the content. If you're going to start up a new Lego marketplace, make sure it's independent. These squabbles affect the buyer less than the seller. If the seller is ready to pout & move off of BL, don't be so sure that your old buyers will follow. As far as I know, neither site can directly convert an LXF file or its XLS BOM into a wanted list. Or calculate the least number of orders needed to acquire everything on said wanted list, then automatically calculate & sort those groupings by price (i.e., sort & group together shops by lot counts, as airline websites can when you book tickets with layovers). So until those things happen for the buyer, neither site gains high marks from me for complaining about each other.
  7. Very stylish! I especially like the facade of the first floor cafe and the color scheme within. The dumpster in the back is also a nice touch! Minor suggestion-- I see you have 1x1 plates on the top edges of the 2nd and 3rd floors. To lock sections together without plates sticking to the wrong floor when you pull them apart, the number of studs attached to the floor you want should be greater than that of the opposite (separating) floor. Using a 1x4 tile w 2 studs is one example to do this, but there are other ways, too. This is a minor problem on Lego's Town Hall & Palace Cinema.
  8. Neogaf has been talking about a January release for the public and mid-Dec for VIPs. I'm still betting on a New Sand Red if the rumor of a new color becomes true, as red seems to be the only color without a muted (desaturated) tone in production.
  9. Or an Octan oil spill clean up? Includes rare dark brown dolphin.
  10. 1) No, the nearest LUG is 90 miles away. First, the expenses for travel and setting up displays would likely exceed discounts offered by LUGBulk. Second, the one event in which I'd like to regularly participate, Brickworld, is not an eligible LUGBulk display. 2) I would be reluctant. For better or worse, I have had a lot of experience on message boards and now post only if I have something extraordinary to contribute.
  11. I first built this in LDD using the original and its pieces as a guide, then compared the alternate's brick counts versus 1x through 4x the original's. Since it wasn't a directly proportional relationship, it would've been more advantageous to buy all the parts off Bricklink from a store who clearly parted out multiples of this set... Alas, if anyone had done that, it wasn't obvious, so I just bought 3 sets (had one already) and consider all those extra gray & black parts a good investment for future MOCs.
  12. Thanks, I'm fond of the last scene from The Dark Knight Rises. There are a couple other angles on my flickr, but rest assured it's nothing more than the furniture included with the official set.
  13. This interpretation of 10937 Arkham Asylum as the modular building, “An Alternate Asylum,” was created with four official sets and a handful of various monochromatic plates from my collection. Additionally, I elected to substitute some gray bricks with those of slightly more saturated hues via Bricklink. Enjoy! flickr Front: Rear: Interior: Stealing a moment away: Spooky Street: Until next time~
  14. I wholeheartedly agree! This figure is quite realistic (blue nitrile gloves) but could have been more so, if Lego had given her flasks in trans-clear (most solutions) and/or trans-yellow (bacterial broth) instead. A dark blue syringe (pipetman) also would've been a nice touch.
  15. I think many of us had seen this as a tragic flaw of Cuusoo on launch but wanted to hope. Upon asked at Brickworld why Lego needs Cuusoo's participants (and why participants need Cuusoo), Cuusoo's rep at Brickworld boiled it down for me further: it's about the notoriety of adding the Lego logo to your creation. I was underwhelmed.
  16. I love it and am flattered! The dark green works well with the orange, and the pumpkin at the top was a nice touch. Above all, the special part is that you've added a twist and made it your own. It makes me want to buy one!
  17. I was thinking of Ratatoille as well. Here's hoping for some sand red!
  18. The 7-7-10 triangle is within 0.1 stud of a Pythagorean triple. LDD will accept the connection, too, if the adjacent studs are not used.
  19. A bridge! See my flickr for pics in progress. Thanks, and I enjoyed meeting everyone in Chicago!
  20. When are the summer sets going to be available at Lego Shop@Home US?
  21. I'd eventually like to use dark red, red, or white there--whichever is issued first. I am using medium stone grey (light bluish grey) 6x6 plates and 40-tooth gears right now, but it is not as aesthetically appealing as the 6x6 red dishes had been. The problem with the dishes were that they are arched on the outside if you place them sideways to cap the wheel between the holders; this arc allows enough space to let the axle warp, which I've been trying to limit. Having the 40-tooth gear connected to the 6x6 plate with pins creates a flat surface (albeit with more friction), but it holds the axle nearly straight. Also not shown in the LDD file: Per car, one warm gold 1x1 plate (6141) between white 1x12 plate (60479) and warm gold 1x1 nose cone (59900), creating extra tension to hold the axle 10M (3737) in place. Alternate the sides (e.g., left on red, right on blue). One black tyre normal wide 043,2 x 22 (44309) on each rim (56145). The rim color will not show.
  22. Thanks for asking, but it's for my daughter... (And she'll never give it up~!!) I love your Twist-a-Whirl by the way; good luck on reaching 10k! The .lxf file is free to use, under the conditions that the file not be sold in its original or a modified form and the photos not reused without my consent. A couple suggestions before diving in: First, I've updated the .lxf file. The axle through the previous version running at Brickworld sagged a bit in the middle. I bolstered it by linking together a dozen 40-tooth gears with four 12-stud axles, sandwiched in between two tires, and finished off with a gear-pin-plate combo. Second, Lego customer service had sufficient quantity of some parts in new colors (e.g., 64451 in dark red). Good luck!
  23. Brickworld was a wonderful experience, due in most part to the friendly AFOLs and families I met there. It was a joy fielding questions about the purpose of every nook & cranny in my models. Winning best large building meant a lot to me, not to beat anyone else, but because upon seeing the red brick, my wife's eyes and nose turned pink (and she might have started shedding tears if I'd not immediately started teasing her)... Hers was the kind of the emotional reaction I'd hoped for, since, you know, it will help me continue to have Lego as a hobby and Brickworld as a vacation for the family. I hope to see everyone back next year! Thanks! I loved the Da Vinci Punk, too!
  24. Here are some early photos I took, mostly on Th-F.
  25. Congrats, Alatariel! As the parent of a daughter into Lego, I hope Lego understands that female minifig counts are a deciding factor girls use in choosing which sets to ask their parents to buy. As such, although I support the theme of this project, I think it would be better applied by making the ratio of male:female minifigs 1:1 in non-licensed themes, especially City, Castle, and Creator. (Creator is the best at doing this so far.) Along these lines, Lego also could begin incorporating wheelchairs into City sets without having to wait for that next project to reach 10k.
