Thank you for your honesty; I hope I didn't offend. My inspiration for this build was a game which featured a cross between Le Chat Noir and Moulin Rouge as a secret headquarters (sans windmill) for a fleet of robots piloted by five ladies who save Paris.

For whatever weird reason that is hard to describe, I don't get the sense of fulfillment from designing interiors that I do in creating unique structures or challenging geometry... Perhaps the level of detail required for an interior uses a part of the brain that, in mine, would prefer to be lazy. Suffice to say, if I were making these professionally, I'd hand off the project at this point to an expert to be finished up. :) Sorry, everyone! That was an excellent suggestion, and the 3-panel look inspired me to fill out the middle (under the banners) with a 3-panel snot window! It was hard to see from photos what was underneath the Smithsonian's banners, and I had been stumped for a while.

Yes, there are those, too, between floors. Check out the lxf for more detail. It runs fairly smooth but can jam once in a while if the half-bushes securing the corkscrews to the axle loosen up.
-
The corkscrews on the axles push the combs mounted on the elevators. I copied it (literally, in LDD) from the pumpkin factory.

Lighting - Snap photos during the day in a sunlit room away from direct light. Use flash with a diffuser. Turn your model so that you can shoot from a direction perpendicular to the natural light. Backdrop - Use overlapping rolls of plain silver and white wrapping paper. Camera - Canon SLR. Test different settings until you find one that works. If you're shooting inside under indirect sunlight, try "cloudy." Software - I'd recommend Photoshop, but this can be avoided altogether if you already paid attention to the composition.

I've designed a digital MOC that uses elements in colors that I thought would be available until LDD Manager alerted me and Bricklink verified that they don't exist. Ordinarily I'd substitute for a different color or type of element, but I'm also wondering if there are means to order bricks in special colors even if they aren't listed in TLG's Pick-A-Brick. Any suggestions?

An internet tale Winchester/Shaun of the Dead project on CUUSOO
RoxYourBlox replied to Yatkuu's topic in Special LEGO Themes
With all due respect to the quality of the model, it probably wouldn't have been mentioned on Conan or have reached 10,000 votes if it had been presented as such. It seems there are implicit checks and balances in this system: Cuusoo is 18+ but TLG's target audience is 6-11. Non-licensed projects have low visibility. The thought crossed my mind if I wanted a non-licensed MOC to pass approval, I'd pledge my 1% take to a charity in return for their grassroot support. There's no way I could climb that mountain alone. -
LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality
RoxYourBlox replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I didn't want to emphasize despair as much as suggest that the threshold for product review be less stringent for original ideas than for work based on third-party intellectual property. "Connecting passion for an interest with the LEGO brick" presents an intrinsic bias toward "A Focus on Cross-Platform Licensing" rather than "A Focus on Original Work." -
LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality
RoxYourBlox replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I am giving up hope of any original AFOL MOC reaching the production stage via Cuusoo. The threshold seems to have been set too high to pass an idea without the support of an outside company or fanbase. For a product that is supposed to foster imagination and creativity, I find licensed set after licensed set deeply ironic and disappointing. -
I assume acquiring the parts for this was the same as for most MOCs you'd see here. I pulled what I had from our collection and purchased what we lacked from Bricklink. Most BL orders were delivered within a week.

Download and install Lego Digital Designer from Lego ( http://ldd.lego.com ), then download the .lxf file here or in the original post. Next, you may select each floor with the connected elements tool, select inverse, delete, save as floor 1 etc, then generate instructions within the program or as html.

A few hrs/day for 2 weeks to design the .lxf, 1 week to acquire parts, plus an extra week to redesign the elevator after the first one failed. This is late, but I want to say thanks for the support and tip explaining the Lego pool on Flickr. I'm new there and had no idea! In regards to a convention, I had been hoping to bring the Pumpkin Factory among ~8 MOCs to my first Brickworld in June, but it looks like family circumstances will hinder those plans. Hopefully it'll work out in the future! Also, thank you sonicstarlight for the mention on Brick Town Talk!

The 4 toothed bars on the back of the elevator are driven up or down by 2 or 3 worms secured between half bushes and cross blocks along 9 or 12M axles. Axles are connected between floors by cross axle extension 2M. Removing the extension to the basement allows one to manually rotate the column by the wheel in the attic. Yes, you could try it in the town hall. You'd have to devote 4x4 for the column and 4x6 for the elevator, though there could be ways to reduce the footprint further.

I think it could work, and I look forward to someone trying it! I may replace it with black or dark tan later this year but certainly would prefer reddish brown or dark brown. It's a fairly new part, so I'm hoping Lego will introduce several new colors soon. I agree about the fountain. I was going for something different and struck out. Honestly, building interiors has never been one of my strengths. However, I envision a greenhouse on the roof, sprouting cute pumpkin-headed minifigs. The attic would serve as a slaughterhouse where pumpkinheads are sacrificed for seeds and extract. Next floor down, the seeds undergo genetic engineering in a lab so that the next generation will exhibit accelerated growth. Second floor, we would see the pumpkinhead extracts processed into cans and syrups. Main floor, a posh cafe serves pumpkin pies and pumpkin spice lattes to gentlemen in top hats, unaware of the atrocities necessary to produce their $5 cup of bliss.

B-OM-14A flickr ...and I forgot to snap a picture of the basket of pumpkins ( + 4* + 4*). That's all, folks!

Forgive me if this was mentioned before, but what is the purpose of the white window frames and tiles underneath the bottom floor? They don't seem to serve either the structure or aesthetics.
-
I agree about licensing / cross-platform support. I think the best chance the AFOL community would have in passing an original project at Cuusoo would be to funnel a LDD community build through several rounds of building & proofing under preset requirements (price, piece count, genre, etc). Proceeds would go to a charity (a children's hospital?), which would in turn publicize the project on facebook, twitter, etc. I'd love to see a modular building come out of this. There are a lot of creative minds here with unique talents!

Lego has posted the instructions. The set will have two 6x24 plates in light bluish gray and 87087 in dark orange!
-
Oh, I just found it today but thought it deserved posting. I was hoping for a wider selection of modified plates in dark orange from this set, but I think from this video we can see we'll mostly get 1x_ bricks.
