What do you mean by functional and not interferring? -
Thank you for your interest (and sorry for this late reply if I hadn't responded on Flickr)! I have been helping Kristel, who will make instructions available for the Ferris Wheel, since we've received several requests. She'll sell them on her website when ready. In the meantime, thanks for your patience. Thanks!

Thanks for your interest! The .lxf file is unavailable because Kristel will be selling instructions for the Lawyer Laundromat along with my other designs. Thanks! No offense intended to any lawyers out there. Thanks!

Instructions for Fountain Castle
RoxYourBlox replied to Kristel's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Thanks again, Kristel, for your outstanding work on the instructions! Your superb organization, meticulousness, diligence, and communication shows through! Fountain Castle was recently featured (under its alias, Daddy's Dorm) in the center of my daughter's Blue Boardwalk display at Brickworld 2014. For more info about the model itself please see the old thread. ] -
LEGO Ideas: 21110 Research Institute/Female Minifigure Set
RoxYourBlox replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Town
As a scientist who loves to encourage his daughter's interests in math and science, I'm looking forward to this set. To be frank, however, the proposal as shown is not attractive, especially the skeleton. I think there would be much better options for "good part usage" to imitate various apparatus (i.e., a syringe in dark blue for a pipetman and a flask with clear or milky white contents rather than a cone and liquor bottle). I'm hoping the redesign is more extensive than previous winners, otherwise Jungle Treehouse (or Olivia's workshop if you can find it) would be an equal if not better option as a science set for girls. -
Here's the Pentagon with a 4-floor 10243 Parisian Restaurant (2x 2F): I added an interior. Each side has a visual cue as to what's inside (partly to help me remember what's where). Here are some excerpts: A call center with Mr. President and his team monitoring the world's phone lines. PTSD clinic. Lt. F. Airwell at the Don't Ask Don't Tell Florist Hi-tech Surveillance Facility 452. Team A with Stealth Jet 442 and mobilized Surveillance Facility 452. More on my Flickr.

NEW LDD Brickset out - 1392
RoxYourBlox replied to Lyichir's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Does anyone have experience working with 3D rotation of ball-and-socket joints? The new Mixels parts use this tool. The go-to trick of typing in a ~10-digit number of the precise angle does not work with Mixels parts since entering one number automatically changes the angles along the other 2 axes. I feel like I can't fully explore the potential of Mixel joints without the tool working properly in LDD. -
Ah, yes, as I was gathering input during the design process, L@go preferred the corner while Kristel wanted the side version. During another mock-up I copied 4 corners together and liked the effect enough that I downsized it to one 48x48. The floors are for the most part radially symmetrical, and I built everything in fours as I went along. Hidden beneath each floor are 4x4 corner plates to stack them in place.

I have updated the first post with acknowledgements. Since this was such a large project and lots of money was spent, I didn't want to hoard all the fun... So my wife & I threw a Lego party for my daughter and some her Legophilic friends! I mirrored my laptop onto a large screen TV and ad-libbed instructions by hiding groups and layers of the virtual building with the hide tool in LDD. We set up 5 workstations or 1 station per side. Thanks! I applied what I learned when making my Castlometry sculpture Air Isle and added the technique shown below to fill in the gaps in each base (not visible in the above photo) with 2x3 (or 3x6) wedge plates: Yes, I'll bring as much as our vehicles can fit while prioritizing new creations. Thanks, stop by and say hello! Thank you for the compliment! Unfortunately, I'll be presenting at a medical research conference that weekend (my day job). :( Thanks! I'll be doing more work to flesh out an interior later. Hopefully it can be something that looks nice but doesn't require more ordering. I'm not sure it would pass initial review at Cuusoo, though, but wouldn't it be funny if it did? BTW, say hello to LegoGAF for me if you're there (I read but am not registered).

Thank you! 5,220 per side or 26,100 total. It cost a pretty penny!!! Also - while the Pentagon lacks an interior, it does have stairs; and while the Laundromat lacks stairs, it has an interior. I might fill the empty space with a mix of MOC vignettes and Ultra Agents stuff this summer.

“Pentagon” flickr Corner view: Side view: Interior: Entrance: This project was designed first in Lego Digital Designer, then the pieces were ordered through Pick-A-Brick and Bricks & Pieces at lego.com as well as bricklink.com via LDD Manager. Many thanks to the builders who assisted during the early stages of assembly: Mom & Dad Grant & Miles Paul & Olivia Yuri, Claire, & Emily Raghav David, Julie, Lily, & Andrew And of course to my wife Ann and daughter Kim for their love, support, and help throughout. See you at Brickworld Chicago 2014!

“The Lawyer Laundromat" ~ We clean away any trace of your money ~ flickr This project started as an attempt to make the building across from St. Stephan's Cathedral in Austria (no particular reason other than it is aesthetically pleasing and colorful), but as with nearly all my projects it took its own direction after not too long. So without further ado, here are the pics: Side: Top: Interior: 1st floor: 2nd floor: 3rd floor: Roof: In my haste to photograph both this and our Pentagon, I forgot the obligatory shot with my family's minifigs standing in front (not to mention random minifigs in suits and maybe the CMF Judge)! Oops! See you at Brickworld Chicago 2014!

How do you display your modular building collection?
RoxYourBlox replied to yanathin's topic in LEGO Town
Let me know when you're in town; I could make arrangements. I share this hobby with my daughter, and in turn she and her friends play with Lego. So, it isn't completely unselfish... I hope. I'm not rich, and the extra investment in this hobby does come as a trade off (e.g., old car, no pets, etc). Yes, a nice kitchen, closet, and bathroom, plus vacation(s) even things out. I, too, like liquor with my Lego. Some of my best inspiration has come while inebriated. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RoxYourBlox replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Personally, I like it, but I can't imagine people reacting positively if the colors pop too much. Nice example! In fact, that was once on my list of buildings to recreate! Good points - When I attempted a hospital a few months ago, I used this image of an old Swedish mental institution as inspiration to get that classical look: -
Excellent idea--That looks a lot better than simply snapping on a mirrored PR!!
-
I built PR double-width (i.e., the duplicate as a mirror image), and judging from your pic, I think it looks better with double-height. My only concern was having arched windows on top of each other, but it doesn't look unnatural now that I see it. It saves table space, too!

How do you display your modular building collection?

I'm not an outspoken person. Simply calling it a library conveyed my vision (with respect to the floor-to-ceiling shelves) while avoiding a long-winded explanation. -
How do you display your modular building collection?
RoxYourBlox replied to yanathin's topic in LEGO Town
We had a Lego room built into our new house. During the design process, I told the builder this room would become a library. It somewhat is one, although it's filled with bricks rather than books. I have the modulars displayed on four 30x60" custom-made maple tables, divided into two districts circumscribed by separate railways. Summer 2013: Summer 2013, reverse angle: Fall 2013, overhead view: -
flickr I have a hunch I'm pushing the limits on tastefulness of color combinations with this creation, but the intent was to blend alternate hues of Lego's staple hospital colors, red and white. And so without further ado, here's my attempt at a hospital in modular building scale, presented in perhaps not-so-glorious penicillin white, surgeon blue, and blood red: Front: Rear: Interior: Emergency: Recovery: Until next time~

It is heartwarming to see the non-sexed up version of Merida attached to her set.

I'd suggest using hinge plates, clips, and/or technic elements to create a banked curve and wedge plates (studs on top) or roof tiles (SNOT) for the surface.
