Super Mario 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
SoupOrFishOil replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Peach's Castle doesn't strike me as large enough to get the microscale treatment, but okay. Maybe this is a smaller D2C. I wonder if instead of microfigs they do 8 or 16-bit "sprites" like the Mario in the NES set. 2D characters in a 3D space could be an interesting gimmick. I'm still thinking that LEGO/Nintendo might be waiting for the Illumination movie for minifigure sets. Though I guess they might just take that as an opportunity to sell more of the large scale stuff. -

I think it's cool that Marvel minifigures are finally getting dual molding and leg printing. A lot of them do need it. But also I don't think that Spider-Man or FalconCap look very good. Even Wanda is a little too much for me though she isn't as bad. Minifigures have very simple geometry and overloading them with a lot of busy lines doesn't work well with it most of the time IMO. It pulls the eye in too many different directions and emphasizes little areas that don't need to be emphasized. LEGO also has a fairly limited color palette so they can't really do a lot in the way of subtle coloring either, so the lines on Spider-Man don't do as much to "break up the blue" for me as they do to make what is a very sleek costume in Avengers Academy a very busy figurine. Brickset had an interview published with Star Wars designers recently which speaks to this a little bit. They are speaking mostly about helmet molds, but it does remind me of the era when Luke went from looking like this to looking like this. The first one looks a lot better to me than the other even though the latter has more detail. But the best one imo is this one which looks like the character but doesn't worry about rendering every detail of Mark Hamill's face. That's a matter of faces more than torsos and legs, but I think that gets the point across that more detail isn't de facto good. It needs to work both as a LEGO minifigure and a representation of the character, not necessarily something which captures every line and scale on a costume... A lot of the images we have are pretty bad though, so maybe these will grow on me, but I don't know. I'm also just not a fan of the MCU costume designs in general and was in the minority hoping for a comics based series. I'm glad that a lot of other people seem to be getting something that they like at least. Oh, and I do like Falcon's new hair. The more undercuts we get the more likely we might be to get printing on the side of the head again, like TLNM Zane. -

I can't help but love this. It reminds me of the interpretive dances from the Chima theme. Click at your own peril. The new sets look nice for what they are. Sadly I have no interest in the app. -
It would be great to see Masters of the Universe, but last I knew both He-Man and Megabloks were owned by Mattel, so I don't think that they are going to hand off their own property to a third party when they already have their own brand of construction toy. :( Unless maybe it is for something silly like BrickHeadz. :P

Excellent! I love seeing 90s sets revamped like this. It is really cool how you have interpreted the set here--it looks like Willa has put a curse on a castle to turn it into the hull of her windship. I adored FK but never cared much for this particular set, but now I appreciate it in a whole new way. Great work.

Must be the one I'm living in. :P I don't love the blue muscle outlines, but otherwise? I'm excited to see Joker. I wasn't a huge fan of the last rendition of the 60s version they released. -

There is a VIP raffle on LEGO.com for the 2012 SDCC black suit Spider-Man (they are calling him "Venom") and it isn't limited to the US for once. There is no mention as to whether they are only giving away one. It is 50 points an entry, with an upper of 50 entries which I'm not a fan of because of how allowing that many entries from one person still puts people at a disadvantage for a rare figure like this.... I think I'll just keep saving my points for the discount vouchers. Sorry if someone has mentioned this already. It can be hard to keep up with threads for really popular themes.... -

Whoops, I was told that two of them would be Black Adam and Mad Hatter. Sorry guys! I would have rather had those two, but Bat-Mite is a good choice for a series like this. -

So, heard from a friend (convincing, I know, but he’s been right in the past) that the last four figures are: - One we saw coming faster than a speeding bullet, or actually, maybe two - A Batman foe for who is not currently on store shelves - A hero's absent nemesis All four are male. All four are from the Golden Age. Though the figures won’t all be based on those versions, you could say Stargirl is getting some friends. And three of these figures aren’t Superman. -

Oof. That explains all of the printing, and perhaps why there are only 16. They definitely could have given Wonder Woman and Huntress new hairpieces with that hike. -

Ah, so it's Priscilla Rich after all! I guess all it would take to make her Debbie would be to swap the cowl out for the Tiger Woman's hair though. :P I do wish that her arms would work with the modern version we have... Bumblebee is pretty cute. Of course it would be nice if she had boots or leg printing, but I think she's the first character who doesn't so far. That's pretty impressive. I know. I was referring to the character's costume style, which we knew to be influenced by TT/TTG. Otherwise Huntress would be there with Cyborg. -

Bumblebee is an odd choice. I kind of thought it might be her after I made my comment about Terra but she still seemed too obscure. But Bumblebee has been appearing in a wide amount of media between TTG, DCSHG, YJ, and had a cameo in the Judas Contract movie. I guess that a woman called "Vixen" might not be terribly marketable, either, so maybe Bumblebee seemed like a safer option for a woman of color? I don't think that classic Cheetah means classic versions of Joker and Lex. Silver Age Sinestro is paired with a New 52 Green Lantern, and I kind of suspect that this is Debbie Domaine with the Tiger Woman's hairpiece rather than Priscilla Rich, which would be a Bronze Age Cheetah paired with Golden Age Wonder Woman, but I realize that once you go back to the 80s everything just kind of blurs together as "old" for a lot of people. I'd really love Lex in his pink jumpsuit (with a cake!) and Joker could benefit from CMF level detail, but at this point I'm crossing my fingers for newer characters or at least ones that could actually use a redesign. My scorecard for figures by era is in the spoiler tag, if that's something anyone is interested in I distinctly remember people asking for her when the Tiger Woman first came out years ago. :P That may have been because there wasn't a Cheetah figure at all back then though. Still, she is disappointing. I wonder if this means Cheetah won't come in the Wonder Woman set I thought we were getting? That might mean a different villain there. -

I quite like that Wonder Woman. She finally has bracelets on a non-DCEU version and I've actually been wanting to see that skirt used on a Golden Age version since Minnie and Alice were released. She could have used a new hairpiece and I realize why people wouldn't be too excited as there are better variants out there, but eh. I wonder what the legs look like under the skirt. Batman's growing on me to. The cowl looks much better from this new angle. -

I'm not that familiar with TTG, but maybe Terra? She looks pretty different in the animated series than she does in the comics. Maybe a minifigure drawn from the cartoon version? -

That's actually the Helena Wayne Huntress, did not expect that. Still, she probably wore the best version of the Huntress costume to be put to panel, and it doesn't really matter whether it's Wayne or Bertinelli as they pretty much look the same (or did until Bertinelli got rebooted with a darker skin tone). I wish we could get Power Girl to go along with her though! Classic Cyborg feels like he is only being included because he was left out of TLBM S2, but the level of detail is impressive. Still, there are other Titans and classic variants I would have had, and I'm wondering how well those arms might transfer to one of the older figures. First appearance Batman I'm actually not that excited for. I'm sure vignette builders will use him well, but I think that there were more versatile versions of the character to give the CMF treatment, like Batman Beyond, Hush, or a classic Neal Adams look, and I feel it diminishes our chances of getting a more interesting version of Superman or Wonder Woman (though I'd actually be more okay with Golden Age versions of them, as they were used in The New Frontier). I'd be all for a golden age Flash though. Something looks off Batman's mask too, but it might just be the angle. Also, can anyone tell whether the grinning Stargirl has braces? That would be a nice touch. Sinestro is growing on me too. This series might not give me everyone I want exactly how I want them, but I'm already thinking of getting multiples of a bunch of them. -

Metamorpho! That's a great looking figure. He'll go well with Katana and a Black Vulcan figure converted to Black Lightning to get an Outsiders team going. I'm excited for Stargirl too (though she could have a better hairpiece). Sinestro is kind of a meh variant, and something about Simon feels off. These bode well for the rest of the series though. -
Here are a few figures I've been working on. I don't have access to my full parts library at the moment, so there are a few tweaks I want to make, but I thought I'd get these out there. John Constantine, Frankenstein, Zatanna, Raven, Deadman I want to give Zatanna another face (I'm thinking WW's newer one, which I don't quite like for Diana) and Batman's dual-molded black/grey legs. I'm also thinking of replacing her torso here with Spooky Girl's + a bow tie piece. I have a red collar for Deadman in storage somewhere too. Deathstroke, Roy Harper, Bumblebee Still working on tweaking Deathstroke. I might give him TLBM Batman's torso (the armor should cover the logo) and I need to find a pair of orange hands. I'm trying to find ways to add more color too; I think Rex's arms from Emmet's dream house might be interesting. I'd like a difference face for Bumblebee, but female faces of this color are still hard to come by! Orion, Steve Trevor, Amanda Waller, Vixen I'm looking for a better torso for Orion (maybe Devil Boy's?) and want to try Harry Potter's new hairpiece on Vixen. I have a few more I'm working on, but it will be a while before I can get to them....

Maybe Supergirl's legs? I think the head is an okay choice.
