  1. No. I usually go to either the Burlington Mall or South Shore Plaza stores. The Discovery Centre is actually closest to me, but the PAB and BAM prices are higher than a standard store, and it's rare that I buy a set that's either not on sale or with a GWP (neither of which they generally do). Although I think they sometimes get some sets out a few days earlier than the official LEGO Stores.
  2. In my area (Boston), they do something similar. If you arrive on release day and queue up early, they will give you a ticket for the set you want. I was there on Titanic release day about five minutes before the store opened (although I wanted to get a Corner Garage), and they had about 20 Titanics in stock. All of them were given to people who arrived before opening time (but the last was about one minute before opening). They're very friendly and really helpful. It was rather fun to be in the buzzing queue for a few minutes. Speaking with store employees on release days in the afternoons, they've had a huge range of numbers of sets, that can sell out before opening time, or by mid-morning. But it's usually pretty early for a popular set. The best thing to do is call your 'local' store and ask them. They should know when they're likely to get the shipment in and how many sets they will get. Each store gets a different number. They will also likely be able to guess when you'd need to arrive to be able to get one - but it would be a guess. And I suspect they won't hold one for you if you call - you'll have to be there in-person. Good luck!
  3. You've been able to for previous early releases. It's just a way to make sure that people are signed up for VIP, and if you're not, they can help you do it in the store.
  4. Really? It just says VIP access on August 3 on the US site, which means that a VIP can buy it on August 3 - whether online or instore.
  5. They did an Instagram post about it - BrickLink on Instagram: “Thanks so much to everyone who ordered sets in Round 2 of the BrickLink Designer Program! Round 2 sets are currently shipping out to…”
  6. I got my bestseller parts after five days (but I ordered during the Forestmen GWP, so probably high order volumes. Standard took about three weeks. I realized when they arrived that not all the pieces that I thought I ordered has been recognized by the system. It could be that they were just deleted later, or, I think more likely, as the system is a bit slower to recognize adding a part to the basket than the old one, I may have been too quick before searching the next part number, so it didn't take. I also got a husky dog that I definitely didn't order, and have no idea how it could think that I ordered it, as each item has a picture. It was on the order sheet and I paid for it though. And it was at the expense of a part that I did want, but didn't come through. Overall, pretty good, but just a shame about minimum order values, and those minimums being split over two separate baskets. And the lack of parts available (both new, old licensed, and general availability/out of stock). Hopefully it will improve as they work through it.
  7. Bricklink has posted that they're shipping sets in Europe now, and that everywhere else will follow in August and September. I built the Kakapo yesterday, and have to say that I love it. Wonderful set, and not as repetitive as I feared it might be with all those small tiles. There were a few pieces out of order in the bags vs instructions, but not many. And I got one piece in the wrong colour, but otherwise, all good. The final model is superb!
  8. It's a new-ish kitten piece. Released in some City sets, in three different colours.
  9. The Office 21336 had been revealed. https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/the-office-21336 While I'm not surprised, I was hopeful that they'd do something more interesting with it. It's a pretty boring looking build, without any of the funky angles from the other sitcom sets. Maybe some interesting techniques in the furniture, but most likely it's the minifigs that will get people excited.
  10. Only one? You'd need several to make Scrooge McDuck's vault, and Smaug's lair, and a treasure room in a castle spilling over with gold.
  11. The list had a few missed, but was also the easy reasons why most were rejected, not all. I suspect the emergency brick separator was rejected because it's a LEGO in-joke. Fun for those that are fans of LEGO, but probably not to the casual fan, and certainly not going attract anyone new to LEGO. LEGO is playful and likes humor in sets, but probably not humor about LEGO as the main point. That's better hidden away as an Easter egg in a set that stands on it's own. I was most disappointed that Land Ahoy didn't make it. That would probably attract non-LEGO people, as it looks beautiful and you would think it was LEGO. However, I suspect it would be too hard to make it structurally robust and remain as elegant.
  12. I enjoyed seeing the white carrots on RBs review. Very neat. Looks fabulous. Excited for it.
  13. I think that IP is useful for LEGO because it brings in fans on the IP who are not into LEGO, so it's a good way to expand their customer base. Central Perk appeared to do this very well.
  14. Well, Hocus Pocus it is. Not terribly surprised, but the timing seems a bit off. Mostly sad that some of the other amazing ideas didn't make it. Let's hope for another Bricklink Designer Program.
  15. Same. Now says August 9 on my order. Will this be a weekly update of another week's delay? It will be fun, no wait, frustrating, to find out. Although I've still not built my round 1 sets yet. Hopefully will do very soon.
  16. I agree that I can't really see any of the licensed ideas getting through, based on past results. Not to say that they're not great models, but LEGO has other plans or doesn't want to. But as we saw with The Office, maybe something like Studio Ghibli or Avatar could make it because the timing is right for a slot in their portfolio? A Hocus Pocus set would like be too late to catch the merchandise wave from the new movie. And wasn't it already rejected a year or so ago (when it would have made much more sense to approve it, ready for release alongside the new movie)? There are some wonderful models in the mix though. I really hope Land Ahoy makes it. And the train station Meeting Point is superb (but likely won't get through).
  17. I've had success calling the store beforehand. The staff have been happy to tell me yes or no to what figures/accessories they have. And in some cases when the new ones will be arriving.
  18. As they said in the designer video, if make it big in LEGO, you can make things look accurate. But that sometimes feels like a bit of a cheat with LEGO, and smaller is more elegant and delights (me) more with it's ingenuity. However, this does look really good. It took a while, but I finally got the ? block and NES, plus a couple of courses, with the idea of creating a nice composite scene of them. Might have to add this to the mix. I had considered getting the Bower's Castle set, and glad that I didn't now.
  19. I only ever had forestmen and a few lion knights as a child, so those are top 2 for me. The new Black Falcons are nice in the current sets, but I don't have any strong feelings or nostalgia for any of the others. Forestmen are clearly the best!
  20. The email I got said the sets were backordered and would ship by August 2. I think that's the way their system handles notices of expected shipping dates (although it's a bit silly that they can't change the phrasing). Did your email have a date in it?
  21. Got an email just now saying that the round 2 sets should be shipped by August 2 (I'm in the US). They've said that kind of thing before and missed those deadlines, several times, but it's promising.
  22. The differentiation between Creator/Creator 3in1 and Creator Expert/18+/Icons is pretty difficult to see sometimes. They can't decide on a name for it, with the LEGO website still saying Creator Expert as the label. Not all of the sets in the Creator 3in1 theme on the website are actually 3in1. And the mini London bus (Creator Expert) and the tuktuk or high speed train (Creator 3in1) appear similar in their complexity, but are in different theme. I'd love to see some more forestmen sets, and more from the castle theme in general. I don't really mind where they put them. Having a molded horse (and other animals) would be good. And while that so far appears to have been a difference with 3in1 vs Expert, they make the rules, so they can change them. I like the 3in1 castle for it's simplicity relative to the new one. It means my five year old can play with it and it's easy to bring back to standard if I want, vs something more complex which takes more effort. But personally I prefer the great detail/complexity, as many of my sets end up in my home office, so I see them all the time, and the build is often more fun. You can buy all the elements from that set that are currently available on PAB. So it's a filter function only. Those elements that are not on PAB (mostly the 2022 new parts and any licensed ones) will not appear. Hopefully the 2022 elements will appear on there soon.
  23. It. Takes. Fo r e v e r . . . I've actually quite liked it when they have pre-made figures during the pandemic. Super quick to get what you want. But it can be great for specific parts that you want. Either army building style, or, in some stores, being able to just get 15 pieces, so you can get a load of torsos or accessories/animals. Knowing what you want before you go in is great, as you can search for a specific piece, which is generally easier than browsing through to see what takes your fancy and then trying to match stuff together for a complete figure.
  24. Ha ha! My lack of ship anatomy clearly shows, but yes, that's the point. Trying to raise up that front part so it's all lined up and continuous. It really does look very good.
  25. I have a 21TX2, 22TX3, and 23TX2. Based in the US. Two from online orders and another from a physical LEGO store. Not sure which came from which source though.
