The future of Back to the Future
RichardGoring replied to 1980-Something-Space-Guy's topic in LEGO Licensed
Who knows what their logic is. There must be a reason. I desperately hope there is a reason. They way they've done Batman seems to work so well. Shame they don't replicate it in the Creator Expert area. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 22. Rumors and discussion
RichardGoring replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I agree with some of the comments earlier about the lack of imagination or uniqueness in some of the figures, like the girl with the foal. Having said that, I'll still get that one, along with the forest researcher/toucan, Racoon costume, wheelchair racer, and (my personal favourite) the bard. -
You find it fascinating that something with 'modular' in the name sold out quickly? That's second only to 'castle', isn't it? I agree though. Is it an old train station converted into an Apple store, and then rebadged as LEGO? The video is useful to see more of the detail, but the fact that an essentially single story building (with an attic?) is the same height as the standard three story modulars does feel strange. But modding it to add a middle floor, or making this a two story tall building will be fun and make it fit better. To be fair, the video does clearly state that it was designed to be standalone though. And it does look good standalone. Mountain Windmill should look great next to the Blacksmith. And the bowling alley will be superb next to the Downtown Diner. LegoArtisan on Rebrickable has a great MOC of Downtown Diner to turn it into a bowling alley that I was very tempted by, but so great to be able to get a dedicated one.

Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces

Ha ha! If it helps, when I call customer service for the accessories, I'll also ask if they have a decent app to go with them, but I suspect they won't be able to order that... -

Plus, the Dimensions figures are better than the Ideas ones. Shame they won't be included, but it would be great to get an updated minifigure scale model with figures. -

Or you could look at it saying the extra points are worth $12.50, and you could likely sell the sign and garden scene for more than it costs to buy the front room, if it's good. And if it's not, your have the better deal? We have a week for it to leak though, so maybe it will be an easier decision. -

Agreed. The detail this time hopefully suggests it's real. I don't have the Ideas DeLorean, but got the BrickVault 8-stud one and think it's lovely. https://www.brickvault.toys/products/delorean-time-machine -

Great Scott! This is heavy. Hope that it turns out to be true. At that price, 1955 pieces might be possible? -

That amazing Gringotts MOC on Reddit has been finished. Stunning work. -
Bandmates series 2 appear to only have been available on lego.com in the US, and they're now sold out. There were reports of them also being available from Wal-Mart, but so far no sightings.

Unpopular Opinions about LEGO
RichardGoring replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I buy a box of tissues. Kleenex is the brand. Although again, might be a UK thing to use the product not the brand. It happens, but might be less common than in the US. Same with BandAids vs plasters, Saran wrap vs cling film, Tylenol vs paracetomol, Motrin vs ibuprofen. But there are some brand names that have become generic in the UK too, like Velcro. It still sounds so odd to me to hear LEGOs. LEGO all the way. -
I was pleasantly surprised to be able to place my order with no glitches and with no need to panic to get there precisely on time to avoid it being sold out. Wow. Hopefully round 3 will be the same. With an order placed, it's the fun game of seeing what gets funded. As much as I like the aquarium, I hope Seasons of Time makes it. It looks very close an hour in! These are for delivery in June 2022, aren't they?

The bricks technique is terrific. Love the effect that it gives. Really nice work!

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Gearslover01's topic in LEGO Town
The scale of Home Alone is definitely very different to the Modulars and WV sets. Modulars and WV are, to me, impressionist versions of real buildings. Giving you the essence, without everything being there. It works great for LEGO where it would be expensive, and probably a less enjoyable experience (law of diminishing returns and all that) to go for real-world scale accuracy. Not to mention minifig vs human scaling issues. But as you start to recreate real-world places, with all their details, in minifig-ish scale, then things have to become much bigger. Home Alone and all the Sit Com sets feel like they're a similar scale to each other, and different from the Modulars and WV. On Rebrickable, Lego Artisan has a couple of great designs to turn the Sit Com sets into full levels in apartment buildings, and they seem to scale nicely with Home Alone. I think the larger scale is also what the Winter Chalet in the Bricklink Designer Program 3rd round uses. I've often thought that Modulars should be on a 48x48 baseplate if they were to be more realistic scale wise. But they would be crazy expensive and almost certainly very little extra enjoyment to be gained. -
And there are 10,590 1x1 stud/tile pieces in the set, so you only 'lose' 350 pieces from the piece count for the finished map, plus a few extra for the colour key and 1x1 cones if you're not using them. Total built size is going to be at least 11,200. To me it feels fair if you take weight into account as well as piece size. So Titanic should really be the largest set. How long before someone plots the Titanic's route on the world map to use as a backdrop to the Titanic? Then you could take a photo and claim the largest LEGO set ever, and no one could disagree.

It looks excellent to me. Fits very neatly with many other sets. Bit of a shame that there isn't a matching menu tile on the back side to act as shutter doors, but easy enough to add if you feel strongly about it.
