Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Interesting images of some of the prototypes for the hotel in this snippet of an interview with the designer. https://www.brickfanatics.com/lego-10297-boutique-hotel-prototype-models/ It's Brick Fanatics though, so expect the interview to generate about 20 million posts... And a few billion internal links. The two shown look very interesting. The fourth floor on the first is really nice, and I like the idea of the alley too. Gives it more of a reason to be at an angle. -
Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion

You could argue that there are five stores in Boston, a the is a LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, which has a store you can go in without a ticket, and also had a Pick a Brick wall and BAM station. It's actually the one closest to the centre of Boston, and you want to take the orange line T to it. -

I have an email alert for LEGO sets on Craigslist. Sometimes something good appears, but often not. It's usually got at least a few investor sets on repeat, which is fine. But just recently the scalper listings have grown. Home Alone, AT-AT, Titanic, and of course Santa's Visit all appear for maybe 20-50% over MSRP, which I really don't like. Just had one for Santa's Sleigh where they're asking $100 for it. Only 300% of the MRSP. I really hope no one buys it. I know it's not illegal, but it winds me up, because, unlike resellers, they're not providing any value at all. -

What do you mean? We all know that we can expect frustration, surprise, outrage, shock, coming around to the idea, love, joy, and asking about 2023. There may be some LEGO sets thrown in there too, but they're very much secondary. -

The piece count and set name are only on North American sets. Sets everywhere else don't have them, so the photos are of a global (non-NA) set. -

Brick Fanatics reckons it may have been cancelled as it has a 'naughty list', instead of a 'nice list', and that's not very 'LEGO'. Interesting. https://www.brickfanatics.com/why-lego-cancelled-second-christmas-2021-set/ -
Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Gearslover01's topic in LEGO Town
The one on eBay is likely a production prototype. Or from an initial production run. I suspect we will never know why it was cancelled, given that LEGO has released an official statement about it and not said why: "We decided not to release this product as it didn't meet our strict quality standards. Because we work so hard to provide the best possible play experiences, we never compromise the quality of our products." Source: Second Christmas GWP cancelled | Brickset: LEGO set guide and database People have speculated that there was an instability in the model (although I don't know how), a production issue, or that the cardboard box shortage has meant they couldn't produce enough sets. I just hope that they decide to release it in the future, because it's a lovely set. -
I don't live near a Wal-Mart or go into them often, but had the opportunity to do so this evening and they had some Series 2 Bandmates. Managed to get six of the ones that I wanted (Vampire Bassist, Slime Singer, Puppy Singer, DJ Beatbox, DJ Captain (my favourite), and Discowgirl Guitarist). Only 'need' Karaoke Mermaid and DJ Rasp-beary to get the ones I hoped for. As others have reported, they were in a mid-aisle cardboard display stand, not with the regular LEGO sets.

Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces
RichardGoring replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in LEGO Licensed
Got my Bricks and Pieces order today with Captain Marvel's hair, which is great. And also every available yellow head from 2020-2021. 22 heads in total. Some of them are awesome! Plus, StoneWars has their December 2021 B&P selection blog post up, which is always fun to look over. LEGO Bricks & Pieces: What to order in December? Our tips! (stonewars.de) -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

To move it onto the next phase then, I was pondering either the possibilities of combining two. I'm not normally a fan of this, as you just end up with something larger for the sake of it, rather than meaningful benefit. But in this instance, you probably do want some more bedrooms and bathrooms. And a restaurant would be nice. As would an entrance to the terrace. And the frontage would look good extended over two base plates. On the second, it would be great to use a 90 degree corner, and possibly even change the angle so the whole thing becomes a much larger triangle. That gives you space for the lobby and a restaurant. A grand double staircase in the middle. Then standard rooms, with bathrooms on the middle floor. Maybe a mezzanine out onto the terrace bar. And two suites in the penthouse. Maybe even stairs up to a rooftop bar. Or pool? Perhaps a pool on the terrace, and the bar on the roof? -

They appear to roll these figures out each year now. They were in my local LEGO stores this year and last year. So if you can visit one, you may be lucky. Or next year, hopefully. Nicely done! -

Fabulous work! They look great together, but the hotel definitely feels a little too small. I don't think it needs to tower over the Parisian Restaurant with another middle floor, but certainly a few extra bricks in height would be good. The ground floor could certainly have an extra brick of height without losing any of the nice detail/scale/aspect ratio. The middle floor might be trickier to do. I wouldn't want to increase the height of the top floor. -

Briq Foundation has a decent picture, and his post and recent YouTube video says it's inventory issues. It's not clear if it's inventory of the GWP set, or every type of set. There are very few sets available on lego.com at the moment. -

It's such a shame that they cancelled it, if that's the real thing. Because it would genuinely have made me buy things from LEGO, which is precisely the point of the GWPs! -

I was thinking whether the stairs could have been put in that space, but bathrooms is a much better idea. You would get a back office for the reception desk, a bathroom for a second floor bedroom, and maybe a shower for the suite. It would add a load of pieces though, and I suspect they felt this was one of the least worst compromises, to be able to build to the $200 budget. -

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Just read Huw's review on Brickset, and definitely impressed. What a fabulous building. Also, does the experience of new sets improve of they are revealed properly, with a decent review from e.g. Brickset, compared to blurry leaked photos on Instagram? Not heading and real disappointment from this, unlike sets that leak first. -

First impressions are great. I love the shape and detailing. Would prefer more muted colors, so that it feels more northern European, but that's my taste from personal experiences being there. Still like the colors though, as something vibrant to stand out a bit and not get lost. Will definitely be getting it. -

Several places are now saying Santa's Living Room GWP it's cancelled. But that might be OK, because they're sold out of all the sets anyway. Only one thing available on my wishlist (of 16). Only two sets across the entire Friends line. Two! For Friends! Wow. This feels worse than last year. -

Thanks! I saw that too, and agree it's great. I went for Lego Artisan in the end because it's much easier to access, and my daughter loves to play with these. I want originally going to get the sitcom sets for to space, but keeping the 'openness' aspect, while still being able to stack them (saving space), was great. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Just to bring it back, ever so slightly, to modulars, I'm currently putting together Lego Artisan's SitComplex MOC of the various sitcom sets. It's really fun for the most part. The core of the excellent sitcom sets are retained, but then he's added details to complete it into a modular building. It's a different scale from the standard modulars - maybe more like the Ghostbusters' Firehouse or Home Alone. I do somewhat regret keeping all the sets in their original bags, plus separate bags for all the additional parts needed. But as I've been building it over several weeks, it felt like the easiest way to get it all out and put it all back again between building sessions. P.S. It's tomorrow very soon. -

LEGO typically does Christmas in July, and will restock the set. I suggest getting it then, because trying to find it later in the year can be stressful, and it will likely retire at the end of next year. -
LEGO Monkie Kid 2022
RichardGoring replied to Anonknee Muss's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
It's easy to compare it to Ninjago City, but remember, it's half the price point. I think for the price, it's terrific. The design means it's an excellent playset as is, but also allows customization to for into an AFOL setup alongside NC.
