Technic 2022 Set Discussion

It sure looks good. Probably the best looking one so far. Before anyone tries....don't ask for pictures! We do have a topic for that set btw. -
[MINDSTORMS] Big Robot v2
Jim replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Great. Thanks for the info. Canβt wait to start building in real life, but that will definitely take another month or so. I am contemplating going for the four wheel design, which will add another wheel to carry the weight. But I can easily switch between three and four when I am able to physically build the wheel assemblies. -

I have been looking at Big Red and I am trying to use that mechanism in my robot. Any thoughts on the feasibility of this solution (without the large outer rim turntable, or possibly with the outer turntable). I should have used more contrasting color for the example, sorry. -

Sweet, I will reply in the topic. Today I received the big tires and they are so much cooler/better/robust. I will absolutely use these for my initial concept. -
Thanks for posting this update. I love seeing some progress, after realising you started this topic way back in 2020. The bug in the hub to hub communication is concerning. We had a brief conversation on Facebook about this. I really hope you will find an answer, because I am likely to run into the same issues. Although I will probably do less hub to hub communication per second/minute. I can try posting this on the LAN (LEGO Ambassador Network) and see what happens.

I read something about moving to a different brand account as well. If that doesn't work, I'm afraid you need to go down this road: https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/how-to-move-youtube-content-to-a-new-google-account -
Thatβs great to hear. Good luck with the write-up.

So you accidentally had two of them laying around? Or did you get two BMW motorbikes? -

Yeah I need to order a couple of those. Now that I am out of the reviewing business, I need to keep up with the new parts Since I like to go big and I do have the parts (well, almost) I do think I will try your initial design with the bigger tires. -

A sidenote about Studio; I am not impressed by the performance. I am using a brand new Mac Book with M1 Pro chip and it is sometimes struggling with adding stuff or copying an assembly. I was hoping for a more fluent experience. -

I just made your first design with the bigger tires (rendering as we speak). I didn't realize that the wider tire is also bigger. The bigger tire does look better. I was thinking about driving the inner turntable and maybe add the our bigger outer turntable to carry the weight so to speak. This is something I need to test in real life. That is a nice mockup. I was wondering if driving a single from one side would be feasible. I do think your design might work. It's a compact sleek design. I like it. I do wonder which solution is better in terms of load on the axles. Your latest solution will result in the entire robot applying force on four simple axles, right? Not sure if that's the optimal solution. The bigger tires do look better on the wider assembly! -

Here's a comparison. Looking at your image, I couldn't resist and I did order the wider tires as well. Will a liftarm going straight up touch the tire? This is actually a question I should have asked before ordering the tires, but I wanted to have them in my collection anyway. Edit: Never mind, I can test this in Studio -

Sweet! That's an awesome tip. I'm still learning the Studio ropes, so these tips are more than welcome. There are still some nuisances, but I am definitely starting to appreciate this program. I love to try out quick concepts by drawing them in a digital design environment to get an idea of how to fit everything. And the render option is awesome. Wow, thanks for building this example. It's not that I don't want to go wider, but I am/was afraid that wider would make it more difficult to turn the wheels. Do you think it matters a lot, if there is a big difference between your setup and mine? I can do both btw. Using your setup for the basic construction, which is better than mine in term of attachment points and bracing etc, and still attach the outer hubs to add some aesthetic stuff. Or only attach the disc brakes on the outside. -

Sweet! I will definitely be taking a look. The other day I received the BMW wheels. They sure are impressively big and equally light. I was amazed by the weight, or lack thereof. They are much lighter than I expected. Hence I have been thinking about the overkill of two large angular motors and the possibility to drive the wheels from the upper structure, so they can rotate 360 degrees. This will obviously be a more convenient solution, because I don't have to worry about the wires. Below is the concept I drew up in Studio. The space between the tires needs to be small, but this might be two studs too small. It might be hard to properly mount and brace the frame. Thoughts on this setup are welcome. I have ordered some extra tires and the hubs en brake discs etc, so I can use 8 wheels (4 double) in my robot. I will decide on 3 or 4 wheel units later. Due to the high price, I haven't bought the large shock absorbers (yet), but they might be a nice solution for the arms. I will be needing 8 so I will wait till my final design before I push that button. The wheels are expensive enough already This is turning out the be a BMW M1000RR K66 Robot PS In my first renders I accidentally used the wide tires, but I am using the narrower ones. And the front view (bit dark, sorry)
