Technic 2022 Set Discussion
Jim replied to Technicallism's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Not really sure about the added yellow to the heli. But I will probably get used to it. -
And I would kindly ask to not lecture us. I have clearly stated that there will be no extension this time because we have a deadline. Extensions should not be considered a regular thing. We already changed the closing day to Tuesday a while ago, so people will have the entire Sunday in all timezones. The Monday is simply a buffer. We used the Monday to correct some topics which weren't entirely within the spirit of the contest (which is fine btw, we do that...for you guys). @Ctan's model was already (mostly) complete on the 27th of April when the topic was created. Why wait til the 1st of June with entering the contest?! Could have easily made the deadline. (no offense @Ctan, don't take this too personal....although I do wonder why you haven't entered earlier) I am inclined to open up the topic (because generally I am a nice guy hehe), but after opening the topic there will be the next guy asking to open up the topic....and the next guy. We are investing our own time to manually create voting topics etc, so throw us a freakin' bone instead of telling us what's fair and what's not Milan to the rescue! See....we are nice guys after all

It has come to our attention that some of you used some sort of diorama in the presentation of the build. These diorama's range from very elaborate to very simple (just a roadplate). @Milan will address the contestants personally to alter the presentation, but let me emphasize that it is not allowed to add stuff to your presentation photo which isn't part of the contest. Let's stick to the actual model to keep if fair for everyone. No added vehicles, no added road plates, nothing that isn't part of the contest. Of course you can add some details like Milan (Grohl) does in his official models (chainsaw for example), as long as they fit the theme/subject of the contest. I can also live with a Technic figure, but let's not go any further. We we all some additional information about this the next contest. We will also try to be more clear about what is considered Model Team. I know it's a confusing subject, so we will try our best to make a clear distinction.

[HELP] Panel Storage
Jim replied to Leonardo da Bricki's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Tell me all about it hehe. I have purchased several bins for my panels. Some of the colors fit in regular bins, but since I have purchased a LOT of extra panels in white and black for my robots, I do have some larger bins for those. -
Thanks for understanding and being honest about things. We really appreciate it. And of course, we are looking forward to future MOCs!

That is always a difficult issue. I am not sure how to tackle this. There will be more people who have unfinished MOCs and use them in a contest. As long as the WIP hasn't been posted elsewhere I think there is very little we can do about it. I can make progress images mandatory, but that would be very easy to reverse engineer, so it would be useless as a form of evidence. Using system parts is okay, for details. This model does use a lot of system model in the bodywork, turning it into a model team finish. I also mentioned in another topic from another member that he needed to limit the number of system parts and turn it into Technic. You need to ask yourself the following question: "Would this set be considered Technic by TLG and sold in stores?" I think we all agree that this model has way too much System to be considered Technic. Besides that; it would have been better to post a WIP topic much earlier to get the feedback you needed. A WIP topic is to show progress and to get feedback about your model and your choices. Presenting it on the last day is not in the spirit of the contest and you are risking criticism about your entry, which in my opinion is valid in this case. I do feel a bit sorry, because it's a great model, but we do have certain rules in place which we need to enforce. For next contest I will try to make it more clear what is considered Model Team and what not. I will ask @Milan for a final verdict on this matter. Buwizz is okay. I will add it to the list for future contests.

[HELP] Contests in a Subforum?
Jim replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I am pretty (not 100% though) sure that this forum has never had that option. We will be upgrading to the latest version of the forum software somewhere this year. If the option is available we can consider turning it on. -
[MINDSTORMS] Big Robot v2
Jim replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have spoken to Balasz about this and he said exactly the same thing. Maybe for the delayed crane?! I will be picking up some of these gears when they are available. -

Looks like the new Ferrari is providing some interesting new gears. Do you think this new solution is made to be stronger? -
[TC22] Road roller
Jim replied to LegoV94's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Awesome!!!! And to be honest; I like this one better. I like Model Team or Scale Modeling, as long as it's done 100%. Not a big fan of hybrid solutions (hybrid bodywork that is). Exactly! -

This is a very difficult one, because I really love your model. And I totally understand you get better looks with a Model Team finish. However, this contest explicitly states no Model Team style building. For me (and other people, looking at the posts) this model crosses the line. The contest is about Technic, so the model should be like a model you will find in the Technic theme. Therefore, some System parts are allowed, but the model should definitely be Technic. I recommend keeping the base and try to make a Technic version to enter the contest. I think your model would still be a great entry. -
[TC22] Clamshell dredger
Jim replied to JoKo's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
No worries, you're good!! That's perfectly fine! -

Very nice entry!! And welcome to EB. For the entry topic you need to provide an image with some sort of bounding box, so we can verify the dimensions. Make sure to include one. Looking forward to seeing more of your MOCs.
