I think there should be a balance between using a general discussion topic and creating new topics. -

I somewhat agree; my only concern is that people ask questions like "where can I find building instructions?" in a new topic. The answer consists of a link and that's it. Those questions can easily be posted in a generic topic (imho). True! That's why I change a lot of titles to make them more readable or to make the content more clear. -

Using Google yields better results than the search here on EB, which, quite frankly, is horrible. Reviving an old topic is not a problem if your comment adds information or new insights to the conversation. Reviving an old topic with the line "Wow, cool!" is not appreciated. Asking for building instructions in a year old topic is not appreciated as well. You can always send a PM for a request like that. Another task for me is expanding the Index, with MOCs, Building Instructions, Building Guides/Techniques etc. -
Hi Tsukanomon, I bit late, but better late than never. Welcome to EB!! Regarding your question; unfortunately I don't have any experience with Android programming, so I don't have any experience with Android and Bluetooth. Did you get the Android Remote app working with the EV3 brick?

I second this. Although I do appreciate the input and obviously I want to consider the suggestions, but there are other ways to reduce the clutter, besides creating subforums. For starters; have general conversations in the Technic General Discussion topic. I tend to agree with your first statement, and definitely with your second one And let's not forget; creating more subforums needs way more regulating -
No thanks! Cool The instructions look good. They are definitely better than the LDD generated ones

[C-MODEL] 42004 Buggy
Jim replied to imvanya's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have made some new pictures with the bush attached. I will try to edit them tonight, so they will be useable for the contest. You do have some though competition -
Sure thing, no problem!! I will see if I can redo the first three pictures tonight. I do like the last one. It's very clear and has a nice angle. Looking forward to the instructions! By the way; you still have an axle pin left, so you use that on the front mounted heavy gun, instead of the red 2L axle. To make it more symmetrical.

Lego F1 Car 42000
Jim replied to Legowife's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think Allan can fill you in on the details of which parts you need. Ordering extra parts directly at Lego might take too long for them to arrive and the servo motor is out of stock. You should buy them of Bricklink. For example, here are the servo motors: http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?q=Power%20Functions%20Servo%20Motor Maybe Allan can provide you with a list of Bricklink parts, so you can order them there. In the best case, from a single seller. Where are you located? And please bare in mind that making the model fully remote controlled, won't make it drive really fast. It's performance will be poor, compared to real RC toys. Just so you, and he, won't be disappointed Whatever you do; getting him the 42000 and the PF set is awesome! You rock! He can always join Eurobricks so we can explain to him what he needs to buy. Collecting separate parts and rebuilding the model can be fun too! -
Technic Sets Retiring Soon
Jim replied to paulincanada's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Although, most of the time, the parts remain available, the sets do retire! Unimog wheels aren't used in any other set (yet), so they will become rare (eventually) after the set retires. Unless they are used in a new set of course. -
So I've built your Bell AH-UH-1 Iroquois Cobra Huey Assault Utility Helicopter Must say I quite like it. It looks cool, has a front mounted heavy gun, side mounted SS 10 anti-tank missiles (at least that's what I want them to be. The specs tells us, they are actually miniguns). There are some a-symmetric quirks during the build, but that's mainly because of the limited parts. I am not very happy with the pictures. I forgot to close the door so there was some sunlight. I will try to make better ones. But, here are some shots. What I do like, is the small details, like the two seats in the back PS this set is definitely moving up some notches on my ladder!!

[WIP] Tower Crane
Jim replied to LegoMonkeyMan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Actually, I don't care about the quality. I care about the composition I would like to see the entire crane, instead of smaller details. -

Jim replied to Eigenbroetler's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice! I've got a half one in black (Just the cockpit and front section. Never finished it.) -
[WIP] Tower Crane
Jim replied to LegoMonkeyMan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I know it's a WIP and all, but could you take some better pictures? Especially of the entire model. It's hard to see this way. -

Nice one! Although I agree that the arm does look a bit strange. Can you link the LFX file?- 12 replies

Technic General Discussion
Jim replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi Dooftastic, Welcome to Technic! The 9396 is one of my favorites. Great set! I almost never built the B-models, until recently. I joined the Reviewers Academy, so will be building more of the B-models. I have a computer on my dining room table, where I build most of the time. So I never print instructions. This works fine for me. -
EV3 (31313) Puppy?
Jim replied to d2mac's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I thought you already had the instructions. Take a look at this article: http://robotsquare.com/2013/10/01/education-ev3-45544-instruction/ It's not allowed to share the programs (yet) so I can't help you with that. -
FAQ Which set should I buy? These questions belong in this topic: Technic which set should I buy?. Please do not make a new topic for these kind of questions! Thanks! Where can I get information about Technic sets? For the general information (year of release, part count, price etc.) you can just use www.brickset.com. For a more in depth look at the Technic sets, www.technicopedia.com is a great place to take a look (although it isn't complete yet). Is my 8043 Motorized Excavator the new or the old version? The best way to check this, is to look at the code that's written on the linear actuator. You can read more about this here, here and here. I'm stuck while building my Technic MOC. Where can I get help? You can ask for help in this topic. What is GBC? GBC stands for Great Ball Contraption. It is a machine that can transport balls in any way possible. Often, multiple of these machines are put together to form a large contraption.

EV3 (31313) Puppy?
Jim replied to d2mac's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi d2mac! Welcome to EB! Nice to see another EV3 Enthusiast I haven't built the puppy yet, so I can't tell you exactly which parts you need extra. You could follow the building guide and look at the part list of the kit you are getting. It's a bit cumbersome, but you can deduct which parts you are missing. Or you could just buy the parts in the educational set. Not sure whether you are familiar with Bricklink, but here's the inventory for the Educational Kit: http://www.bricklink...v.asp?S=45544-1 You can compare the list with the inventory of the normal set. You can also take a look at this article on Robotsquare. Laurens did a pretty decent job explaining the differences: http://robotsquare.c...-education-ev3/ This article might be interesting as well: http://bricks.stacke...ducational-sets By the way; there's a Mindstorms General Discussion topic which you can use for these kind of questions. I will be merging this topic shortly. -
That's truly impressive!

Technic General Discussion
Jim replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The one with 6 holes is the newer version. There's a separate thread on this topic. I would have to look it up. New rims got introduced with the 42000 Grand Prix Racer, if I'm not mistaken. -
Gee's General Newbie Topic
Jim replied to Gee's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
No problem at all. Asking questions isn't a bad thing. And I do think it's a valid question! But it's the kind of question you can easily post in the General Discussion topic. Or in this topic of course
