LEGO Ninjago 2021
Merlo replied to Driver Brandon Grumman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Would that matter if the sets are selling? I don't watch any city TV shows and I like the city modulars. I also don't know much about the Ninjago show and only saw several episodes after buying both City and Docks sets. -
I'd say the author of the OFS was just wise enough to offer a set that looks like something Lego would put out right from the start. It's the sort of "abandon your hopes = profit?" approach that seems to be the one to aim for. Let's be honest, Lego doesn't care about "ideas" ideas.... they just want to gauge what they could build next and will it sell. So whatever idea there is, we should imagine a simplified colorful Lego version of it and not hope for more. Lego can just claim they based whatever idea they had on their own project, even when the sets go down into details that coincidence would struggle to explain (like the ghostbusters HQ). I'm with you on that. If we'd have fantasy modulars or even additions to the blacksmith, that'd be amazing to have. A single blacksmith that's cute in a Lego way but not impressive in a MOC way is stuck in a no man's land and I still can't convince myself I need it.

I agree but we've talked about this before and concluded that it only makes sense voting for an idea and not have much hope it will look like the submission. I don't see it as a darker vibe at all, just not purposely silly. I don't know why it's like that TBH. Sure, I liked bright vibrant colors when I was three years old, but even as a kid a darker, more serious look would look much more "badass" to me. Agree 100 %. I found Barracuda Bay disappointing compared to the original (which had its faults as well and had entirely too much brown) BUT... the new Barracuda Bay is an amazing playset. The new blacksmith looks great as far as I'm concerned, but I fully expected it to turn out like this, to go from something I'd surely buy because well... obvious reasons :) to something that I still dig but I wouldn't know what to do with it. A blacksmith is not particularly inviting for play, unless it's a part of the greater castle line, which we don't have. This rendition of it also wouldn't hugely impress as a display item. So I'm at a loss what to do with it. There are more fun sets I'd buy for the children and better looking sets I'd buy for myself (I'm looking at you Gardens of Ninjago City). So... not buy it? Buy it just to build it and then sell it? Meh.

Gardens look incredible, definitely a first day buy for me, even if I have to throw out furniture to display it. The set does look somewhat hollow and like it's lacking the bulkiness of NC, which is strange for such a big piece count, but looks can be deceiving. Kinda worried about the price in Europe, I must admit. Unpopular opinion: I love how big and colorful NC is and that is a great thing indeed, but in details and design alone 70657 > 70620. -
Agree completely.

I see just one instance of that flag on Bricklink, and it appears in five sets, neither of which has that first flag on first glance. https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=x376px4&in=S

Great! So few of them? Ouch.
-
Of course, but maybe I already like some of them and this would give me hope :)
-
So what rejected ideas are non-IP, anyone got a list?
-
Ah, ok. The dock part confused me. I thought they were almost identical? The actual product looks more colorful since the idea is a render, so it has dInsert other media arker colors and is missing a few details that ended up in the final product.
-
Which set is that?
-
In what way? Classic castle sets were simple and focused on gameplay, be it with figures or rebuilding of your castles. I expect this should be a more detailed set with a display focus?
-
Looks cool and fun! I love the wooden part and the fact you even managed to squeeze some interior detailing.
-
It does look cool. It's kinda strange to see that in ideas, though. A lego car, what an idea! lol

I love it, I'd buy it, Lego will never make it :)

[OL FB1] Ship Mast Plantation Eltina

The terrain makes it look real :) -
Wonderful, so many things to like.

It would be fine even if you made the exact same ship and credited the author, just wouldn't make sense to post it

What seems to be the problem?

LEGO Creator 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Merlo replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Nothing spectacular. The giraffe one might catch my interest when I see a better image. -
I'm looking at a tractor from this set on my desk right now, and I just have to temporarily raise this topic from the dead to echo the conclusion of the reviewer: who made this! How? It is incredible! I always knew you can do amazing things with enough time and enough bricks, but this is comparatively small and does not involve any advanced methods, techniques or special bricks. It's just a crazy skilled and tasteful build. It really evokes the feeling of a an actual massive tractor and at the same time it invites you to play with it, it is somehow realistic and toy-like at the same time, completely disregarding the fact those two things are usually at odds. Lego usually captures their sets from the best angle for the box art, but this one looks great from almost any angle. All the way from shaping to the incredible color composition, this thing should be in a museum somewhere. I really should put it away somewhere as having it on my desk makes me look at it too much instead of working. I'll grow an extra thumb just to give this set three thumbs up!

But some of them are important... license plate, for example. -
