  1. Local shops finally got the new creator sets and of course the price in my country is exorbitant compared to everywhere else. But then I remembered I could order from the neighboring country since the shipping is not too bad. I've looked at 31107 and 31108 and the price is decent but 31109 is sold out already?! Either the pirate theme is ready for a comeback or somebody really, and I mean REALLY liked that set.
  2. I see. Maybe they just didn't want to lose the functionality? Because with sails and animals they're not losing anything and are gaining extra bricks.
  3. Can you design a compact brickbuilt cannon?
  4. I'm definitely getting it. Since it's not a huge ship, it'll be cheaper to convert it to something that more fits my taste.
  5. Could it? It looks 14 wide on the top and it narrows down in the bottom :\ I think the ship looks worse now that I see a better image. There are too many strange colors popping randomly about like the red and yellow at the back, not to mention the green. Birds were never good this small, the shark is fine from this angle. Brick sails still look good. The captain now feels like just one of the pirates.
  6. Oh, yeah! The little details make this one really come to life. I'd love if LEGO had pirate themed modulars. Not necessarily whole scenes ($$$), but bits that would cost less and that you could assemble in different ways.
  7. Oh damn you, creator, not again! I love the pirate ship, as well as the mill it turns into. I'm a fan of caravans and have a small collection going on and the rover is amazing and giving me classic space vibes. Even the alien is cute! RIP my wallet.
  8. It's difficult to argue hull pieces and cloth sail don't have their place. The prevalence of small pieces in modern LEGO sets completely killed the MOCer in me. But small size and brick built hull and sails were to be expected given this is a creator set. I don't think 3 in 1 would be possible otherwise, and the hull will probably look better this way. This might be 30 centimeters long, give or take?
  9. Not super thrilled but probably still buying it. It might look cool next to the pirate bay. 6+? That doesn't sound encouraging :) Brick sails are great for modifying purposes and canvas sails are my least favorite part on any ship, although I understand the necessity. I wonder how all the curved hull pieces will be used in the alternate builds, which often seem lacking even when the main build is more suitable for transformation. The front figure doesn't look like it belongs but the stubby look - I like. Might look cute IRL.
  10. As it should be! The local shop I bought it from is also out of stock and they usually have the bigger sets on 15-20% sale after they remain unsold for a long time.
  11. The sad sails are reused in the ship? Because that looks like a reason not to transform :)
  12. I don't think you are. I must say I've seen more ship terms in topics like these than ever before. I think a lot of you are just ship fans masquerading as Lego fans :)
  13. In what way? I have no idea what the proportions of the IF are.
  14. Oh, yeah. I'd buy this :) It's not quite the same, but it still reminds me of a time when Lego designs had much fewer and often much larger pieces but sets looked cleaner.
  15. Beautiful indeed! How much would it cost to mod the ship this way? :)
  16. Thanks! I hope this new wave catches on and we'll all enjoy some more piraty goodness.
  17. I bought this set right away as I'm starved for both pirates and bases. I more or less expected the original submission to suffer a parts and color change, probably to classic pirates colours. I was hoping for a modernized version of colours, though. The ship is more than welcome! My complaint is a little bit different than anything I've read, in the first 20 pages at least. The original design was indeed lacking contrast and was a bit too plain for a toy but it looked as if the designer is either very good indeed or has obsessed endlessly over every single detail until it was as close to perfection as possible. When it comes to scene composition the final product looks a lot more like something I would make, messy and unbalanced in density of elements and positioning of contrasting colours. Speaking from a purely aesthetic perspective, of course, I'm aware that there is a whole lot more to making a set than that so this is not meant to be disparaging. It's obviously still nice since it's both a pirates set and a great idea from the start but it's more of a great playset than a masterpiece of Lego design. And since the ship doesn't have those issues, that leads me to believe the bay would have indeed looked much better if not for the imposed limitations of the actual ship parts. In fact, the ship looks so superior that despite my love for bases of all kinds I just might leave this one as a ship.
