I’m not so sure. I can see why you’d say that, but I don’t feel they’d have all those dark artefacts just jumbled together like that. It feels like it could inspire a Malfoy Manor yes, but to actually use it as a Malfoy Manor I’m not so sure that it’s similar enough inside or outside. I’m not saying it’s a bad idea, just saying it wouldn’t work for me and wouldn’t be enough to justify me buying it! -

That's crazy. Although I suppose we can't get our hopes up too much, we all know how wildly inconsistent Lego's pricing is between regions... -

Yeah I'm not sure about the Haunted House. It has a super detailed interior, and looks impressive, but perhaps a little plain and boxy from the outside. Also the fairground theming feels a bit awkwardly tacked on, when it could be used for more interesting interiors, and also makes the minifigures included just random people rather than spooky monsters. There's stuff I'd rather buy, put it that way. Also the marketing is a mess with the whole 18+/non-Creator Expert thing. That set, interestingly does give me hope for the price of Diagon Alley in Europe and the UK. Hogwarts Great Hall was $400, €400 and £350, so I was expecting it to be the same as that in € and £. But the Haunted House is $250, yet €230 and £210. Which is already 20/40 difference, at a set just over half the price of DA in $. Maybe we could expect £3350/€370? That would be nice. It's also the super detailed approach I want Lego to take for DA shop interiors to do them justice, albeit with a little more room for minifigs, and not the dollhouse style as that'd essentially halve the number of shops. -

That’s definitely true, I really love seeing such a range of layouts and proposed layouts. To be fair I don’t have enough space or parts to MOC a proper Hogwarts layout. I’ve only got the GH out of the Hogwarts sets so far so I’ll probably have a play around when I get more. -

This looks really great! Am I the only one who doesn't want to set up a screen-accurate Hogwarts though, or even a Hogwarts using the pins that seem to create a straight line? I'd rather just have the sets in a cluster, all facing forwards, maybe with the Whomping Willow wall for some depth at the back and the GH, CT and AT altogether at the front? -

But if it is a CoS set, thinking about it, I actually agree they could easily make it a smaller set. I always thought it would need to be a big set, but it really doesn't. If they made it big a lot of the size would probably just be rock and repetition. So I could see them scrapping all the cave bits and just having the snake door, a small walkway, 2 snake head statues, and Salazar slytherin. A medium basilisk build, Tom Riddle, Ginny, Harry, Lockhart and maybe Ron, and it could be a $50 set. Yeah I still don't think CoS is likely. I think Ministry of Magic is most likely. For some reason I never realised the cave was the base of the cliff. I always thought it was inside the big rock that Harry and Dumbledore land on lol. Just watched the scene and surprised myself. I think that no matter how many minifigs are available (definitely hoping for 14-18 like you say), I've said that Lego seems to be going all out with minifigs for as many characters as possible - so I think all important characters in DA will get at least some representation, whether it be from sets, the D2C, or the CMFs. So at least there's that to be optimistic about if you get what I mean. Oh lol. Thanks for checking -

Did they really announce the two waves last year so close together? Is it just me that thinks that's kinda strange, I'd've thought they'd wait until the first wave of sets at least releases, so then they can say "now we've made you part with your money, here's some more!" I get you. DA's gonna be exciting to look at but unachievable to get for a while. I'm just gonna be marveling at all the reddit posts for the first 6 months at least probably. Meanwhile there's something we know nothing about, that's actually more affordable. It's not necessarily a CoS set. -

That’s true. I would love a Durmstrang ship, although I’ve got the FB carriage for the thestral carriage. Made me realise I like it when they’re fantasy vehicles. However I do love the Hogwarts Express and the Knight Bus and flying Ford are classics. -

I’m the opposite. I’d much rather have fewer vehicles and more actual buildings and creatures and interesting locations. What other vehicles are left to make? -

Thanks Ah awesome, I really like it! Are those wings from the Lego Dimensions Fantastic Beasts story thingy? I've considered getting it, not because I have a system that plays the game, but because it looks like it has some cool ornate parts. Could work well in a Gringotts maybe? Would you say it's worth £10? -
Lego is dropping behind dragon designs
sammy_zammy replied to Medzomorak's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I strongly disagree. For a start the 2007/9 ones have 2 times the number of pieces so can be a lot more detailed so it’s a bit unfair to compare them. But to me all of them just look like dragons, of varying types, with the most recent ones being smaller versions of the older ones... maybe the 2018 one isn’t so good because it doesn’t look quite as menacing? Imo they’re all equally great. -
Lego is dropping behind dragon designs

Sorry to bring up an old topic from the depths but I was browsing and thought I'd say something. What about the Creator dragons? The newer smaller ones seem to nail good dragon designs without going too large or too many pieces or too expensive. Only downside is that Lego'd forgotten dragons don't have to be red (although I like the blue wings on the new one). 2020, 234 pieces, $20: 2018, 223 pieces, $15: 2014, 221 pieces, $15: Then there's two older sets, which were 3 in 1s and 8 in 1s, both of which had two slightly larger dragon builds that look really cool - but again, without a huge piece count or price: 2009, 479 pieces, $40: 2007, 588 pieces (with lots left over as you can build 2 smaller models at the same time), $30: All these dragons are fantastic in my opinion. And there's a wide variety of types of dragon, especially in the older larger sets. I feel they could've upped the part count of say the HP dragon by a little to be on par with the new smaller sets (which may not increase the price too much since these are largely brick-built) and we'd have a fantastic dragon in a new style in a new colour. Lego clearly know how to do dragons. -

Wow! This is amazing. I really like your improvements to the sets, and they're simple enough to do without requiring tons of pieces. I also like the way it's an arrangement that has depth; seeing all the sets in a long line of wall connected seems a bit bland to me. Also I love the viaduct - you've really nailed the scale, with everything being minifig-scale in terms of objects but shrunk in terms of buildings. I love it and may do something similar :) Do you have a rough estimate of the area it takes up? Do you have a link? Edit: found a video. Interesting to see how it developed! Why were people allowed to record stuff at it back then? Now this is how you do Dumbledore's office. I especially love the golden statue. -
Decided I fancied taking a crack at some castle-building. Your tutorials are so useful! I feel kinda bad, as it feels like I'm copying, but I guess it's the way I use the techniques in the overall build that's important, and the techniques can be used as templates. Plus I'ma beginner to MOC-making so it's really nice to have some inspiration to draw from; I'm sure I'll develop my use of your techniques over time. It's been kinda a pain to work out some of the angles, since I'm working in Studio lol. Oh what I'd give to have some bricks in front of me to play about with lol. But anyway, thank you so much - and I'm really happy you're still updating!
