The only main difference between MISB/complete vs a bricklinked version is the Box and Instructions. Is anyone purchasing those? Because that will greatly skew the overall price difference between how much you are saving. Not that I'm trying to rain on anyone's parade (I am a bit of a debbie downer). Just bringing that to my attention. Either way, you are saving a good deal of money on the end result. I am planning on making a BnP/bricklink order soon. I am only around a computer when I'm at work and this is our busy period, so I never have time to actually sit down and order anything. I'm surprised I have this quick amount of time to actually get on here and say something. If BnP or Bricklink wouldn't automatically log me out/restart, I could let it be open all day and get an order in.

That's interesting news. I assume they weren't hot sellers then? I actually preferred the EU over most of the other official Trilogy sets. The characters were neat in LEGO form. The ships were actually decent. I don't particularly care for the Rebels ships, although those figures look neat too. If it isn't obvious, I'm a figure collector. That's all I care about. Neat figures.

I thought I read they already started the sequel...Either way, they knew they'd have a big hit on their hands, so I'm not surprised.

The Little Girl from the 1981 LEGO Ad is All Grown Up
TheLegoDr replied to naf's topic in General LEGO Discussion
^Exactly. People need to look at all toys aimed towards girls. LEGO incorporates a lot of new colors, but it isn't ALL pink/purple. MegaBlocks Barbie license is ALL pink. So there is a major difference. Granted, I'm the type of person that bought the Twilight Barbies for my daughter because they were at least covered up with interesting clothes, instead of wearing a skimpy dress and calling them a teacher/docter/pilot, etc. Major difference. People can get mad at LEGO all they want for the Friends theme, but it is way better and value oriented than other brands. That is true. You probably don't need a vanity in the news van, but most girls like to play dress up or makeover, just naturally. So incorporating that into the sets makes sense. I'd love more female minifigures outside of the CMF. I had a few when I was a kid so the ratio is significantly different now compared to when I was young in the 90s. But I'd still welcome more that would fit better with the rest of the figures, not the minidolls. -
The Little Girl from the 1981 LEGO Ad is All Grown Up
TheLegoDr replied to naf's topic in General LEGO Discussion
^And I suppose no news anchor (male or female) ever puts on make-up before a broadcast. Granted lipstick may be in a different genre, but it adds up all the same. Most people like to look their best, especially when in front of a group of people. If make-up is needed, then I guess it is needed. I really hope the writer of the article NEVER wears make-up then, otherwise they are sexist! I also agree about what they could actually report on as far as news in Heartlake City. It isn't a crime ridden city, but a fun loving peaceful area. I think the rescuing the cat is a good idea, but it would add a lot of extra to the set that they didn't need. -
LEGO Minifigures series 12 will not be available until Oct 2014
TheLegoDr replied to JeagerEX's topic in Special LEGO Themes
So will that be the new price on all CMF series from here on out or just the two Licensed series? Buying all 16 at $3 was pricey enough (plus extras), but now add an extra $16 just to complete the set is a bit much. I may be done buying CMF too. I typically would buy a series for myself, then a handful of extras that I liked and a handful of extras for my daughter. Extras will have to be avoided now. -
That's really neat. Thanks for sharing the picture, even if it isn't yours. I hadn't thought of this before. I guess that would open up (pun intended) a lot more pieces and playability. It's weird/neat to see the interior from a different angle like that.

Quality of service at LEGO stores.
TheLegoDr replied to Gatthekid's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've only been to a few stores. Pretty good service overall. I went to the Overland Park, KS store and the first time I was there one of the employees didn't seem very knowledgeable or helpful. I did the survey and the manager got right back to me in regards to it. I went back another time (different employees) and it was better. It might be hit and miss as to those are the only two times I've been there. I've been to the Water Tower Place store in Chicago twice and it was great both times. They offered me free posters and went into the back for more pieces for the PAB wall (which I didn't know they could/would do since KS never made mention of it). -
News The LEGO Movie: 70810 MetalBeard's Sea Cow
TheLegoDr replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Interesting idea. I haven't seen the movie so I don't know how accurate it is. It has done stream punk goodness in it, but I'd avoid it only for the cost. Too many other good sets this year to even consider this. It looks like all of the maps are stickers, unfortunately. I thought I saw the delineation between tile and sticker. Is queasykitty sand green? I could use some of those pieces from her if they are.- 158 replies

Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary CUUSOO set Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in LEGO Licensed
I like the spectacled face better like this vs the Clark Kent figure. These figures loo great! The car looks great. Definitely better than the BTTF set, but only because of the hood design. I knew a lot of people are upset with these licensed tie ins, but that is what sells toys these days. $50 is definitely worth this. So many good sets this summer. -
I was slowly losing interest in this theme, but it seems like the summer wave will pull me back in. I was hoping to spend less this year. I have you many themes to buy for. I guess I'll wait and see how expensive some of these new minifigures are. I don't have an AT-AT, snow speeder or ISD, so those might need to find a way into my collection. The cantina for sure will be in it. Do we know the color of the land speeder?

I really like the exterior. It plays well with the rest of the line. I'd like to see it a little taller, but overall it has a nice exterior effect. I doubt I will copy it, but I may take some cues in a future modular. I'm always looking for neat detail ideas.

On my custom CC, I'm debating on having the lowest layer of bricks be dark blue all the way around the building. Definitely on the front, but I don't know if I need it all the way around. The GE has dark green on the front, but then black on the remainder and that doesn't look noticeable. I'm also adding an exterior to the back, which it didn't have before, so that will take some creativity on my end. I did end up changing my inverted L corner to just a straight building. Although it is 48 x 32 instead of 32x32, so it is a bit longer along the front facade. So I think that will be pretty neat in the long run. It will fit better on my shelves this way too!

The figures look great. The ships are so-so to me. But I haven't really bought too many SW ships. I've mostly been a figure collector. So these figures are better looking than most other SW figures. I don't think I want to spend $100 on 4 figures in the larger set though. But they did the same with Knights of the Old Republic too. Very few figures in more expensive sets. Somehow they get away with that, yet people crucify them for cutting out other figures in cheaper sets. I don't understand. I will either pick up the sets and part out the ships or just buy the figures separately. It will depend on overall cost effectiveness. Thanks for the hi-res photos. Nice seeing some new aliens too.

^That is a downside of packaging products. They are going to throw things in a box to get them out the door quicker. I assume a lot of "normal" people don't keep the boxes, just us crazy collectors. It is frustrating to have a damaged box. I've had a few from Shop @ Home that were damaged. Not much you can do about it, other than mail it back I guess? Which sounds costly/annoying. I always have missing pieces or damaged pieces right out of the box. Unfortunate, but obviously I'm still buying the product. I guess if enough people got fed up to hurt the bottom line, they may wake up and do something drastic, but I don't ever see that happening.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
^Where is the architectural appeal there? There would be very little detailing on the outside of the building to make it stand out. The only impressive factor would be lots of windows and lots of height. But at something just a little taller than Town Hall, I'd want something that is a lot more detailed (which means higher cost) which means I wouldn't want something taller than Town Hall. I think TH is hard to fit into most people's layouts because of the height. You need special shelves just to display it. I don't love how short the Parisian Restaurant is, but I don't like how tall the Town Hall is either. So somewhere inbetween there would be great. I like Fire Brigade/Grand Emporium height personally. -
Great build! I was trying to build a large scale castle, but I kept getting blocked (plus no time!). This is inspiring. I'd like something enclosed like this with some nice towers. You have great wall effect to break up the same color scheme. The roofing does look awesome. The steps work really well and I considered doing something similar. Other than time, my only concern is sourcing enough brick for something like this. Only because I have so many other projects right now! Keep up the great work!

If LEGO never existed, I probably wouldn't be into plastic interlocking bricks. If LEGO were to suddenly not exist, I'd horde Bricklink for pieces as often as needed (although prices would probably shoot up immensely!) I'd also end up saving lots of money from not buying LEGO. I have handled some megablocks and they were of okay quality, but the sheen and color was vastly different compared to what I was used to. The large Megablocks (similar to Duplo) are terrible. Duplo is vastly superior in every way. Kre-o seem decent, but I've never touched or seen one outside of the cover art. I'd like to have some of the Transformer sets, but at the same time I'd rather build one out of LEGO and call it good.

Great cheesy movies. It was lots of fun growing up in Nebraska! Nice build. Although a bit too bright for eerie children

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
^ I'd suggest building them in order of release just to experience the differences between builds. The creators tend to learn a bit between builds, so each one typically has some interesting techniques. But since you own all of those, build whichever you lie the loss of the least, so you can build up to your favorite! As long as they keep the same style, I won't care about what type of building it is. I just hope it has an interesting exterior color. -
How do you store your instructions?
TheLegoDr replied to ResIpsaLoquitur's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Mine stacked in random cardboard boxes. They do get ripped easily. I have 4 rather large boxes filled, plus multiple years of magazines and catalogs. I think according to brickset I have 500+ sets, so they add up.. note I know my collection is smaller than a lot of people here, so I'd love to get a more efficient way to store them. Granted I never look at them other than the initial build. -
Quality of Online Building Instructions
TheLegoDr replied to merman's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I tend to use bricks.argz.com. Crystal clear compared to the pdf files lego has. Screen brightness definitely makes a big difference! I tend to keep my kindle low to save battery life, but you can't see anything like that. To add to Legogal, they call it presbyopia. I tell all my patients to find the right working distance and the most overhead light they can stand to see smaller details. As far as looking at screens, you probably need more back light instead of overhead, but it is the same idea. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Those all come off as more older architecture style. If you've ever seen modern architecture, then those are definitely "old style." -
Very reminiscent of Forestmen sets of old. I was a huge fan of them growing up. This is just like something LEGO would produce in the early 90s. I have intentions of recreating some of those old sets in newer build techniques and colors. We'll see if I ever can make time for that though. Keep up the great work!

I was planning on copying the Town Hall method as well. It still gives the curved effect without going too far out onto the balcony. I like the more solid color scheme too instead of the patchy look of the original. I'd say I could build that and put it in my layout instead of the original version. Although, as neat as I thought medium blue was, it just looks terrible when it is near sand blue (in my opinion) and I almost don't want to build with it. Sure, put it somewhere else in the layout, but why would I want to be that simple...
