Ogre Do you have any other armies or are you just focusing on one giant army? I originally had the plan to build my multiple factions to decent sizes with none being "too powerful" over the other, but I rather like this idea of building up one giant army. Hmm, which faction to choose?

This final installment does not disappoint. Great overall architecture. It feels like a real castle to me.

Very impressive!

What castle factions/subtheme do you want?
TheLegoDr replied to K-Nut's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I just received my first Vikings from bricklink. I was in the dark ages while they had those sets originally. So I now have a whopping 4 Vikings. Be worried. -
Ogre You weren't kidding when you said you were getting your army together. This is massive! And to think, I was content with 20-30 per army... Nice brick built scorpion by the way. That driver might want to watch out for the stinger, or is the entire army immune to the venom?

Those are awesome. I can definitely see the likeness. I am always impressed by brick built characters instead of using a mold for one. Brilliant work!

Very impressive! I was looking at the brickshelf gallery. I wouldn't want to meet any of those armies in a dark alley. On second thought, they wouldn't be able to fit in an alley so I'd be safer there! That is amazing. Basically at a loss of words seeing a massive army all in one place like that!

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 5 discussion

I didn't know what a beefeater was. I still don't in fact. I assumed the title royal guard would be sufficient. -
Gryphon Ink You bring up some very good points. And I would have to agree, I would much rather see brick built versions of those creatures. I don't mind some of the dragon molds for the Viking sets years ago, but at the same time, I'd much rather see a believable brick built version, which is probably why they came out with some of those Creator sets involving the crocodiles/dragon/t-rex and whatnot. The beauty of lego is letting your imagination run wild, therefore creating your own LOTR universe with what we have is fun, but certainly new molds for smaller pieces could come in handy, without doing a full sized mold for a creature. We shall see what the future holds.

I think maybe they either chose a fantasy era theme to test the waters for future fantasy themes, or they did it as an answer for LOTR fans full well knowing they won't do a future theme. Either way, I missed the fantasy era theme so I wouldn't mind another sometime in the future with elves!

I'm pumped to get some of those guys. Unfortunately they still aren't at any of the stores in my town, which is surprising since it is a major metropolitan area. -
Castle layout before re-build/ pull down
TheLegoDr replied to Tazmaniac's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I like the design of the castle/rocks. The forestmen really blend in with their environment, which will make them all the more deadlier! -
I will agree that is an awesome poster. Hermione does look a little different, but I'll take it. Is that Lavender Brown around Ron's legs? That's silly.
-
Artanis I I was a huge fan of all things dragon back in those early days of castle legos. I like your backstory involving them which explains why their symbol is so similar.

That is a good idea. I have every soldier outfitted with their appropriate gear also, not just the figures so that does add up also. As much as I like the older factions, like you said, you have no room for them in their respective places, so no need to get more of them. That does free up the ability to get other factions. Since all of my legos have been in storage since the mid 90s, I have no idea how many I have of most factions other than the most recent lions/dragons. But I definitely want to start getting orcs. I think the evil dwarves could work well with them, but since they have dragon wings on their torso, I kind of want to add them in alliance with the new dragon knights. I am currently working on a brick built centaur to add as another race/faction, especially since minotaurs are coming out soon (even though I was working on a brick built one of them also).

I didn't even consider a battlepack possibility! Hopefully it would be better than the POTC battle pack. I think each one had a Jack Sparrow, odd. I missed out on the Kingdoms battle packs and the Orc battle packs. If these come out, I won't be missing out on these unless every store sells out of them before I get there haha.

Very, very impressive armies. I enjoy reading their history also. Great job. That is a lot of horses! And I like seeing the display of all the castles. I like seeing those older sets in there!
-
You are a very crazy man! Haha. 100 of each faction is quite a goal. I have my lion knights set up at around 20 strong... and I look at them and see a large army. I cannot imagine 100 for each faction! I think I will be more modest and shoot for 20-30 for each faction. Good luck with your purchases.

I was just realizing if it was licensed it would be flesh skin, hmm. I don't mind the flesh color so much like others do, but I do like continuing with the yellow to match other castle themes. And I had not heard of using a highlighter, I will have to do some research on that.

I have this set waiting for me come Christmas time...unfortunately that is months away! But I am excited to build it. The wagons/carriages look great. I really like the dark green one. The overall tavern looks really good, although I agree on it needing to be finished out. I will probably modify it a little to work in my setting. I'm not collecting the minifigs so that doesn't really matter to me, but I do like the torsos, even the carriage driver torso. I have a soft spot for the old redcoats instead of these newer versions. Great review overall. Hopefully Lego figured out the gold brick problem.

I love the bathroom and bedroom! The closet/storage area in the bedroom works really well!

Very neat re-seeing those shots! Although it is making me very nostalgic
-
I hear that! New races/factions would be great to see! But I'm a Debbie Downer, so I will say they probably won't have any sets come out. Let's hope I'm wrong!

A minotaur army will be really neat. I plan on teaming them up with the Bull knights since it is a bull head on a man's body. But I have to start getting Bull knights also.

I really like the entryway with the door off the hinges and the battering ram thrown aside. The march inside is effective also. Interesting use of Orc bodies for some of the soldiers. Good variety, unfortunately I don't have any Orcs so I would want to keep them together as much as I can. The drunk is some nice work too. It looks as real as can be.
