Numbered bags in sets- yay or nay?
TheLegoDr replied to Lego Otaku's topic in General LEGO Discussion
When I first got back into Lego in fall of 2010, I had a few sets with the numbered bags and I was not a fan at all. I felt it took away from the "hunt" as others have put it which is a great memory I have from my youth. The more Lego I've purchased since then, the more I like the numbered bags. It makes the builds more streamlined and smooth. I can finish a build a lot quicker with using up a lot less space as before. I don't have a huge space to build things since my toddler wants to get into everything all the time, so buy building a bag at a time, it helps tremendously on time and space. I recently built some large set and it took forever for me to build it without the numbered bags. -
Lego Customer Service is great and it is probably easy to abuse so they have a few safeguards in place. I have purchased a lot of Lego within the last 6 months and have come across a lot of sets with one or two missing pieces, so I've requested many which probably set off some red flags in their system, even though it is 100% legitimate. I have to send them copies of my receipts and the purchase code in the back of the manual before they ever send me anything and then they say I have to pay for pieces from now on, so it is almost counter-productive to request any missing pieces. I might as well just buy pieces from Bricklink for cheaper to actually build my sets instead of requesting pieces that should have come with the set originally. But I digress.. Contact them and see what they say. But I do think it depends on who you talk with because some are more lenient than others.

Very beautiful building. I've never been to Amsterdam, but it definitely doesn't resemble anything around here (middle of the USA). I would love to see an official release of this. Simply brilliant. I love the roofing, the color scheme and the stairwell. I really like that tree out front too. I've been wanting to figure out a way to incorporate more trees into my street scene because I think the Fire Brigade tree is too small for my liking. Keep up the great builds! I may have to "borrow" some of these ideas

sharky I would say Fire Brigade first. Not only will it disappear first (if it hasn't already?), it also is a beautiful building. Everyone raves about Cafe Corner and Green Grocer, and they are incredibly beautiful, but the Fire Brigade is my favorite Modular so far. Granted, mine was missing a few bags of pieces when I tried putting it together, but once those were shipped to me all went smoothly. The building itself looks great though. I think the Town Hall is another nice building, but I would wait and save up for that since it will be available for a while. I only recently got the Grand Emporium, so I'm still down the Pet Shop and then the Town Hall, so I won't be buying that for quite some time.

Thanks for the images. I am super excited for this figure. She is the main reason I would be getting the sub. Plus, I don't have the other 3 figures either so it will all be new for me. But Amidala is the breadwinner for sure. I actually like the old slopes for dress pieces for everyone else. Amidala needed something more decorative, so this works brilliantly for her, but I would hate to see similar dresses for every royal lady in other universes. But that's just me.

Community Build: SW Episode II - Attack of the Clones
TheLegoDr replied to Oky's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm extremely new to the SW universe, so I am seriously considering doing this. I had a lot of fun with the Harry Potter Community Build, so an even larger universe with more entries would certainly be fun, but I would have no idea on what to build. Is there a deadline to enter the Community Build? Or just a deadline for the final product? Thanks in advance for answering. -
Recently took an even deeper plunge into the SW universe and purchased 9489 Endor Trooper Battle Pack, 9490 Droid Escape, and 9493 X-Wing. I plan on getting Anakin's Jedi Interceptor in May for the Hulk promotion, so I am excited for that. I almost have all of the 2012 line-up surprisingly and I was never into SW before a month ago... I may have an addiction here.

october I love that set. I remember getting it and opening it when it first came out. I always loved the Wolfpack. I may have to build them up a bit.

New York Toy Fair Coverage Part Eight: Star Wars
TheLegoDr replied to Aanchir's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Thanks for the updates. It's nice seeing some more pictures. I'm excited for the release of some of these sets and to bricklink a few of those figures! -
Very nice build. Instantly recognizable to the scene. At least from memory, I haven't seen that movie since it first came out. I believe you used the 1x1 modified tile with button (a.k.a., jumper plate I've heard it called before) for the stands. Very clever. It makes use of a nice stair-step without taking up too much space. If I am wrong in my guess, I think that piece would still work and give the desired effect. Keep up the good builds.

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
TheLegoDr replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Actual multiple layers of breathable material is better for deserts to help prevent sunburn and whatnot. It'll be neat to see the combinations. -
I try to only buy Lego at a discounted price (because I'm cheap), but I do end up paying full price for things quite often. TRU does not allow too many discounts, so I rarely shop there. The last time I went in there was January to see if they had the new series 6 Minifigures. They didn't at the time and were selling series 5 for $3.49 instead of $2.99 like at Wal-mart/Target, so we left and haven't been back. Not only does the local TRU charge more for the Lego products, they also have a much smaller supply than the cheaper stores nearby. Ultimately, if we had a Lego Brand store near here, I would do all of my shopping exclusively there, unless there was an unbelievable deal elsewhere. Again because I'm cheap, if Lego offered free shipping over a certain price like some other retailers, I would order from S@H regularly too. Especially since it only takes 2 days from the time I order until it's on my doorstep. So even though some people shop at TRU because of convenience or availability, I choose to shop elsewhere and am willing to wait on most things. Plus, the TRU in my town is on the north end of town, not the most convenient location either.

Weird stuff. I logged into it just fine late last night around midnight central time (US) to post my Mini Modular entry and I just received the same "Account Suspended" tag. Very odd indeed. Hopefully everything will get sorted out since it was working fine last night.

I am a pessimist by nature and I don't believe everything I hear/read, but for whatever reason I believe(d) that these are real. The small picture makes it hard for some details, but it is exciting nevertheless. I didn't consider them being faked, but if they are, then bravo. If they aren't, I will need to make friends with a UK AFOL stat! While I don't love all of them, I certainly wouldn't mind having something exclusive. I like the gymnast or equestrian rider the most! Let's wait for more news on them in the coming days/weeks/months...

I am excited to get this set. I mostly want the figures, but the look of the ship itself is becoming more appealing to me. Thanks for the review. It only furthers my want for this set.

EB Star Wars Forum Blog Interview: Clone O' Patra
TheLegoDr replied to Masked Builder's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Thanks for the interview. I like hearing reasons behind such actions. It's nice getting to know some of the big wigs around here. If you keep reviewing, we'll keep reading! -
I remember in my early Lego days I would build custom phone booths. Now they cease to exist around me in real life, but part of me want my Lego people to live in a simpler time. I only am using the Catwoman's Cycle street light (modified of course) and the newspaper dispenser. Real original, I know. I love seeing these other ideas. Great work everyone!

Show Your Army, Navy, and Collection Display
TheLegoDr replied to BillytheKid's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Simply ridiculous and jaw dropping seeing that army collection. I have only just recently been getting into Star Wars. Dare I say I have some catching up to do... I want to see this Geonosian warrior army next! -
I was originally excited for Dino, but I agree that it is being overshadowed by other themes early on. I have yet to buy any just for the fact that I had to budget elsewhere. And I don't know if it is like it everywhere, but it doesn't help that I never see any Dino sets in stock (and I don't mean they are selling out quickly like Friends, I mean there is never a spot in the aisle for Dino sets. I don't mean there is a price tag on the display with nothing above it, there is simply nothing anywhere indicating that Dino even exists). Hopefully there will be future sets with other dino designs eventually, but maybe not immediately. We'll see how the sales go at the end of the year report.

"The Dark Ages" - How long were you away from Lego?
TheLegoDr replied to Duck's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yikes, a dark age... I left the hobby around 1996 (age 12/13ish) and didn't return until fall of 2010 (Harry Potter The Burrow). I dabbled in LDD that summer of 2010 and glanced at the Lego aisle once or twice in 2009. I had no idea what was going on in the Lego world during that dark age, meaning when they had their financial issues in the early/mid 2000s, I had no idea. They could have went bankrupt and ceased to exist and I wouldn't have known one bit, although I would have still liked my classic space/castle/town/pirates sets from the late 80s/early 90s. Since 2010, I have spent many monies on sets and pieces and sadly there is no end in sight. My wife was trying to get our daughter into Duplo, and she likes it okay, but she much prefers the Friends sets and my little pieces compared to the larger ones. And my wife is getting into the Friends sets also, so I think Lego is here to stay in our household. I don't foresee a dark age again. I may cut down from time to time to help our money go elsewhere, but probably will never quit buying completely. -
daisy I would say go for the Log Cabin. I don't have the Lighthouse, but I would think you could do more with the cabin for your needs at this given time. Although, since you do like lighthouses, that would be a nice purchase at the Lego store. I think you have a good plan there. TomRoid I would say go for Grand Emporium. I have the Mini Modulars and I love them, but since they just came out, they will probably be around for a while. And I would expect TLG to release mini versions of the future releases also. We just have to give it time. But Grand Emporium is older and will not be around forever. It looks like a repetitive, but beautiful building in the end (I have yet to build mine). I think it would look great in any town setting. hachiroku I actually had the same question between the TIE and starfighter sets. I ended up buying the TIE, but I will buy the starfighter set soon also. I haven't built the TIE yet, but the box art itself looks awesome and it would complete your OT collection. Like any Lego fan, get them both rriggs That is awesome, free money for Lego! Do you have any other SW sets? As in, do you have a lot of the figures already. I am just now getting into SW, so I have very little in the world of figures, so the Falcon is appealing to me in that regard. It is an iconic ship with a great minifig line-up, but if you already have some of them, then it might not be worth it to have duplicates of them. The ship itself looks great. A lot of people have complained about it, but I like it much better than some of the previous versions based on box art alone. Like I said, I haven't owned any of them. The AT-AT is very nice looking and would probably display better. Plus, it is older and being an exclusive will go away sooner probably. The minifig line-up is decent there and you do get a few exclusive figures, but they aren't terribly expensive to purchase in the aftermarket, so that may be something to consider. The AT-AT I believe is cheaper also, so that may leave room for more Lego in your haul. If I were in your situation, I would probably buy the Falcon, if for anything the figures. And plan on getting the AT-AT sometime, but ultimately kick myself for not getting it before it left. What a predicament .

No Disintegrations! An "Empire Strikes Back" scene
TheLegoDr replied to Legostein's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Very clever use of non-licensed parts. They have a very good likeness to their movie counterparts. Keep up the brilliant work! -
I didn't even think about that hair being used for Rogue. Clever thinking.

I like the facade. The color scheme works well and I like all of the little details. An antique store is much needed in any city. Great work!
