Looking to sell my collection
TheLegoDr replied to AwesomeTaylor's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I think if someone is willing to buy a certain set, they would pay more for it as a whole instead of buying the individual pieces to build it themselves. After researching GG and CC on bricklink, parting them out is still quite expensive, but cheaper than buying the actual set. But there is certain appeal to buying the set whole and not worrying about the random pieces. I would say sell the sets first, then sell individual pieces for other sets that aren't worth that much. According to Brickset, I also have around 66,000 pieces, but I couldn't imagine parting with them. -
After reading this particular board many months ago, I took the plunge and ordered a few select pieces from Lego Direct. When I ordered about 3 weeks ago, they had plentiful of the dark red slopes and didn't make any mention they were "out." It is possible there are so many people doing this particular set that they fly out of stock quickly. I think the inventory for Pet Shop only has 2, so for them to be "in production" again, they aren't shelling out high quantities necessarily. But I would agree that they are significantly cheaper directly from Lego. I think I spent around $15 for 36 of them, compared to $1-2.00 per slope on Bricklink. I have only done a modest order from Lego Direct and then using my own supply. There are still pieces I need, but not $300 worth. Granted I am not keeping mine 100% original like others, so it doesn't matter to me about the dark blue arches or the door or the paneled windows. I was already planning on switching those to actual windows. I don't particularly care for the dark blue on the front facade, so I was switching that to dark or light blue (stone) gray anyway. So I'm sure people will not like my version of CC, but the outer shell that will be visible will be nearly identical to the actual set, which is the only thing that matters to me anyway since I wasn't going to resell it. Lorentzen That is admirable that you were willing to spend that much money to create a set you dreamed of having. I don't think I would be that dedicated when it comes to that much money. I'm cutting costs every place I can, so I can spend money on other Lego sets.

That looks absolutely beautiful. I love the color scheme the most. The overall build is brilliant. Great part usage. I also really like the figurehead. Very clever build. I may have to modify some of my ships and come up with something brilliant like this. Keep up the great work.

Beautiful rendition here. I love seeing carriages of that wonderful era. I really like the gas lamps and the cobblestone road. Which torsos did you use for this setting? Keep up the great work!

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 6 Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
That's what she said... The Legonater Back on topic, I thought the Roman was really easy to find. I found 4 almost immediately, but I could not find a Lady Liberty if my life depended on it. Very odd I thought. I only used the feel method though, so I would agree with Sir Basil Ashton regarding on what to look for. Good luck! -
I know very little about anything Australia, but this is a sweet looking car/Lego creation. Very good work! Keep it up!

MOC: The Big Guy - Large Minifig Sculpture
TheLegoDr replied to TimBurdon's topic in Special LEGO Themes
That is awesome! Brilliant mosaic. It looks very lifelike. Keep up the good work. -
After reading this review, the set definitely looks better than I originally thought. The characters look amazing, and the new batcycle is much better than the Fun House one (even though I actually like the Fun House cycle). But since I own the Fun House set, I won't be getting this set. If they had different Batman/Robin figures, I would be more inclined to pick it up. Since I have those two Heroes and don't care about Bruce Wayne as much, I'll just bricklink Bane and Ivy and forget about the rest of the bricks that I wouldn't have a use for, especially at that price. Maybe, just maybe, if it ever goes on a huge sale, would I consider it. I am glad you like your copy so much. Thank you for the review! You covered everything very well. Keep up the good work.

I was planning on ordering a bunch of bricks, but then decided to only build with what I had laying around. Thankfully it allowed enough pieces. But I thought I was going to run out a time or two and then rethought and came up with a new design that I think looks even better! Good luck on your build.

The Dark Knight Rises Trailer 2: IN LEGO
TheLegoDr replied to the last chronicler's topic in Brick Flicks & Comics
That was ridiculous! In a good way of course. Spot on!! Keep up the great work. Amazing effort. -
I really love the flooring! The espresso machine is wonderful too. I may have to borrow that design. Seeing this makes me want to add an interior to my current bricklink CC project. I may have to modify it a bit more than I originally expected because my mind is being flooded will good interior ideas now. Keep up the great work!

I have not seen that organ in the castle, very exciting! I am really liking this theme for the most part. A lot of the pieces I don't care about, but the monsters and some of the fighters are the big draw for me. I am torn to buy some of the sets or just bricklink the figures.. I like that blue car, I just think it is a bit big for my taste. I may have to modify it, just like that green car. The zombie driver is amazing. I love this uniform. And I'm pumped for the guy with the bowler, although I don't care about robotic legs. After looking at the price and what you get, I definitely will not be buying the ghost train. I want the ghosts, but I don't care about the rest and that is too expensive for just the figures. Especially if that Haunted House comes about since it had ghosts flying in front of it. As far as Dino goes, I originally wanted a lot of those sets because it brought back good memories of Jurassic Park and my love for dinos in the mid-90s. But with all these other themes coming out, I will not be getting any of those sets after all. And I don't think I'll regret it much. Although the printing looks awesome for sure. Thanks for the coverage!

I voted Iron Man for this particular poll. When (and if) we ever get a Hawkeye in full costume and not shield uniform, I will definitely change my vote for that. Hawkeye was always my favorite ever since I was a little kid. It was only with the newer Iron Man movies that I started to really like that character (probably helped by the acting and wit of RDJ). As far as actual figure goes, I put other like a few others. I would choose Magneto or Wolverine, but only because X-Men is exactly what I've always wanted to see in Lego form. If I was choosing between only the Avengers in Lego form, I wouldn't be able to choose. They all have some nice printing. Other than Hulk. I know others love Hulk and I'm sure this is a great rendition of him, but I've never been a huge Hulk fan. He would be the only draw of his set and I highly doubt I will be getting it. I'm sure he'll be pricey on bricklink though.

Those look like some niiiiiiice expensive road plates! I would definitely want to borrow that idea because they look awesome. The traffic lights are a nice touch. I was considering doing something in my city layout, but yours is spot on. And the redbox kiosk is very clever. Can't have enough of those! Keep up the great work!

Very nice build. I think it fits right in with how Lego vehicles are looking these days. I may have to borrow some of these build techniques. Keep up the good work!

I was looking at this picture again and I hadn't realize how big the Green Grocer really is. It looks wider and taller than I originally thought. People kept complaining of how tall the Town Hall is, but the Green Grocer is right up there with it. Every time I saw Cafe Corner it was next to the Green Grocer so I thought the CC was just smaller, but that is not the case at all. Again, a very impressive street scene. I am really digging on the Pet Shop the more I see it.

Very nice build! I was thinking of doing my own modular in that medium dark nougat color since the other buildings have such unique color schemes. I can say the colors work really well together here. And very clever idea for the crates as corner wall pieces. It adds a lot of detailing to the exterior. I was trying to create a more substantial tree for in front of the Fire Brigade, but I kept making it too awkwardly big. Your version is a very nice balance of size. I may have to rework mine to give some more "life" to my downtown. Keep up the good work! I like the row of the builds together!

Very impressive layout! I didn't come out of my dark ages until well after Grand Emporium was released, so I missed out on a lot. The park in the middle sounds like a neat idea. That is, if you have enough space to do so. I would rather just display the sets all the time so I can always look in awe at their beauty . Thankfully we have a separate room dedicated to lego, so that is my plan eventually. I like all the shots. I can't wait to see more. I am sure I will return to this page often to admire the set-up.

Very nice interior for sure. I am currently bricklinking this build, so I will not be doing an interior for quite some time (too much money!), but this is exactly something worth doing. You definitely made it feel more like a hotel. I really like the hotel rooms themselves.

Regarding the capes, keep in mind that something as crucial as a cape probably wouldn't be "missing" from a set, so they more than likely wouldn't send you a replacement anyway. Plus, they have strict licensing agreements so they won't sell any licensed figures or pieces, so you wouldn't even be able to purchase new capes direct from Lego. That is where the aftermarket comes in handy. And I agree, it being a cheap set seems silly to try to avoid buying mutliples.

Thanks to the Mrs. I finally have some pictures to show. This was a joint effort. She came up with the brilliant display of windows. I took inspiration from this book and this book. I received both for Christmas and it has some amazing shots of all of the sets. I can't wait to build other scenes from the Wizarding World. Now onto the pictures! A shot from the back of the room without the students and desks. Here Professor Lupin is lecturing on the difference between a animagus and a werewolf. At the back of the photo we have the cabinet that houses the dreadful Boggart. The only students that showed up for lecture were Goyle, Malfoy, Longbottom, and Weasley. Where could the others be? A great view of the arched window in the back of the classroom. Filch has certainly outdone himself with those newly polished wood floors. A shot from a new angle. It displays the stairwell and the iconic design that is emblazoned at the center of the D.A.D.A. floor. I tried incorporating the House colors on the floor and with the flags. If you look closely, there is a bat sleeping in the rafters. A nice shot of the entrance to the classroom and the beautiful side windows. A closer shot of the windows. Past witches and wizards adorn the walls. A closer look at the other side windows. A bird's eye view of the floor plan. You will notice the center floor design better and the turrets on both corners. A nice shot of the rounded staircase heading up to the professor's office. Professor Lupin is instructing Harry on how to conduct a patronus charm. A close up of Lupin's desk. He likes to dabble in some light reading. Looking forward to hearing everyone's thoughts.

Thanks for extending the deadline. My D.A.D.A. classroom has been done for 3-4 weeks now, I just haven't got around to taking pictures. Now I can procrastinate even longer! Hopefully everyone likes it. Maybe this weekend will be the time to take some good pictures.

Very good review again. I missed out on everything beyond the Dragon Masters era, so this is all new to me. Thanks to bricklink I did purchase one figure of the Bulls, sadly it wasn't Michael Jordan. This is more of a Toni Kukoc. I actually do like the figures quite a bit and if I had been out of my dark ages before they came out, I would probably have an army of them. But since I missed out, I doubt I will go back and buy up sets/figures to that great of extent. Some of the sets actually aren't that bad. It definitely fits with the style TLG was going for back then. I don't particularly care for the shiny elements, but it is neat that they had a "collect them all" idea behind it. I do like their re-used helmets and their shields. Now, if only they had some barding!

Very nice build. Very good comic relief. Keep it up!
