That was awesome. Definitely a good feeling of the cluttered-ness...if there is such a word. Simply brilliant. And I like how you included the book description to help guide us through your MOC. Well done, keep up the good work.

REVIEW: 6865 Captain America's Avenging Cycle
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
That's a really good idea. I was hoping TLG would come up with something to have the figures hold the shield on their back since Cap and Boromir both do that in their respective films and they have licenses for both those themes now.. oh well. I think using this piece and this piece would work out quite nicely. I will have to look into this when I pick this set up. -
songwm Very impressive BF army. I remember seeing the original photo and was mesmerized. The scenery adds a nice touch to the large army. I only have about 30 Crusaders, so I think they might get slaughtered if they decided to march towards your BFs. I originally considered building up the Crusaders and/or the Black Falcons, but then I ultimately decided to build up the Black Knights instead.

I don't care for the Hulk, but this is a nice little figure for sure. I just may have to delay my Super Hero spending until May 16th. This means Lego S@H will get my money plus shipping instead of no shipping at Wal-Mart/Target...small price to pay.

Very clever build for sure. A great addition to the community build. The uniformity is great. The scene is full of life with those students and it feels so sad and empty with that last picture. Makes me sad that the series is at an end. The only thing I would have changed was add in some fireplaces and you'd be set. Keep up the great work.

Review: 6868 Hulk's Helicarrier Breakout
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thanks for the review! It is good seeing these sets up close and personal. I am not a huge fan of this set, even if the price was lower. But I agree I would definitely want to wait until a deep discount happened (who knows when that will be). I don't particularly care for the Hulk in general, let alone this figure, but I doubt they would do him any other way. I did like the Edward Norton movie though, not sure why they excluded him from the new movie, but I digress. This set doesn't have a lot of useful pieces, but will be purchased only for the minifigs, which is similar to a lot of people. I will probably get it for completeness sake, but I won't be happy about it. And knowing TLG they will release a new Hulk set in the coming years that will blow this one out of the water. I am glad to get a Hawkeye figure, but I want him in his non-shield uniform. -
Captain America last night. It was a nice little comic book adaptation I thought. I don't know much about Cap since I never read his comics, but I thought the movie was a nice addition to the whole Avenger initiative. I missed out on it last summer, so I thought I should catch it before May 4th. It definitely makes me more excited for the Avengers. And it was nice seeing a different version of WWII, still dark and a horrible piece of history, but not as truthful/gruesome as it actually was.

The whole scene is amazing. Very fall-like for sure. I love the big top as well. Great character selection. Fun times at the circus in the fall! Keep up the great work.

These are brilliant! Like many others before me, the TMNT are simply amazing! Brings back tons of memories seeing them and the Street Fighter figs. The Amidala figure is as close to the official Lego version as can be. Simply stunning. I've never been into modifying, but that is really neat that you are. You do great work. Those paint jobs are ridiculous.

REVIEW: 6865 Captain America's Avenging Cycle
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thanks for the great review. I already was planning on purchasing this set for the figures anyway. Interesting to see a close-up of the aliens. I think they look pretty similar to their movie counterparts, but I do agree that people will probably end up with a lot of them and not necessarily recreate any battle scenes like in the movie. The heroes are the real draw, and overall they do not disappoint. I would prefer Captain's cycle to be more like Wolverine's. It just seems more classic like in the movie to be something smaller instead of that giant heap he has currently. Oh well, the figure is still a good version. Maybe I am more excited for this set than I was before due to my watching of the Captain America movie for the first time last night. It will be neat to see him in minifigure form. -
Review: 6866 Wolverine's Chopper Showdown
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thanks for the great review. I am pumped for this set. I wanted it anyway since X-Men are my fave Marvel theme. I can't wait to see more in the future. The minifigs look great. I never really heard of Deadpool before the Wolverine movie, but I guess he has quite a following. Wolverine and Magneto look great though. And I was going to mention they didn't make a mask because it is printed on his torso, but I was beaten to it. The motorcycle looks great! Very minimalistic, but that is more realistic and appealing to me compared to Cap's or Catwoman's cycles. The chopper looks exactly like a lego chopper should look. Even without the figs I would consider getting this set for the vehicles, but throw in the figs and you get a lot of great pieces for $20! I can't wait to get these. Thanks again for the review. -
This is getting ridiculous. This street scene looks very realistic. I like the overall building designs and color usage. This seems to fit very well with TLG style. I could see some of these as sets (only they are still more detailed than the sets I remember as a kid). Keep up the great work. I will keep my eye on this forum.

I've never really been a Star Wars fan and with the amount and price of SW Lego sets available, I never will be able to collect them. But I did come across Luke's Landspeeder at Wal-Mart recently and thought "why not?" It has some iconic characters at a reasonable price. It wasn't my first SW set (that was Ewok Attack on clearance last Christmas), and it most certainly won't be my last, but it will be a rare purchase for sure. I do want to rewatch all 6 movies though because I don't know half of what is going on when I look at these boards or the set descriptions.

Great builds. I really like the styling of the buildings. The interiors are impressive. I especially love that white car in the first MOC. The menswear store is brilliant. I almost want to create one for my city now, very clever. The flower vase on the middle of the table, very clever there as well. Keep up the great builds. I can't wait to see more.

[MOC] Japanese DOJO & Japanese Garden
TheLegoDr replied to lego envy's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Very nice build. Exactly as I would picture something like this. I am a fan of Eastern architecture also, so this is great to see. I bought some of the Ninjago sets just to build something like this. Very realistic (from my limited experience). All the little details are great. Fantastic work. Keep it up! -
For Cuusoo, I don't think it matters because they won't use this exact set (I don't think). It would just give TLG ideas that Harry Potter is still on the minds of buyers and cool version in mini scale might be worthwhile for certain sets/themes. I mean, they always have polybag versions of mini Star Wars ships and whatnot. Maybe a slightly larger scale Hogwarts would be right up their alley.
-
I agree, similar shapes or uses can easily be put in the same category, even if different color (depending on how many you actually have of that particular shape/use). Highly categorized sorting is very smart, but it may be more difficult to find certain pieces. I have always had everything sorted by color (when I was younger). But with all these new colors and sizes, I have to have everything by color, then by size. I always end up dumping out my containers to find the one small piece I need. Oh well. I do like seeing everyone's set-ups. Very impressive collections people.
-
Very impressive. I love the mini details everywhere. The added features of the tasks and Chamber are simply brilliant period, especially on that scale. Instantly recognizable. You should definitely Cuusoo this right now. I doubt it would be made (but I doubt anything will really be made other than the Japanese market), but I would love to see this exist in my house! I am also building a micro scale Hogwarts, but is nothing like yours. Mine is bigger. If you imagine the Great Hall on a 6x8 plate, that will describe the size. Maybe I should consider taking a cue from you and making it smaller. It will be much easier to display full time than mine (which was only being created since I wouldn't have room to display a fuller scale version like the Official Lego version. Keep up the great work. I will return to this post many times to look at all those details.

Slick Willie It sounds like you have a fever and the only prescription is to buy more lego. Vicious cycle, I know. I, too, have more lego bricks than I will ever use. And with the new sets coming out year after year, there is no end in sight. Sorting is forever. But everytime I look at my old catalogs or instruction manuals, it brings me back to when I was a kid and how much fun I had creating things. To me, that makes it worth while.

inquisitor88 I have purchased only one Star Wars set and it was only because it was on sale, so I can't say anything about the build of any of these larger sets, but I would say the UCS sets exist for a good reason. That price does seem like it would be good, plus with it being a 2010 model, it would probably disappear and only increase in value/cost over time. I would say go for it, especially if it is on your "want to buy" list of 2010. The 2010s will be tougher and tougher to get, especially overseas (I'm from the states, so I only assume these things). If the price in Russia is normally almost $100 more, I say go for it. It does look impressive.

I agree completely. I could use both the lattice window for 2x2 and/or 2x3 windows and the the glass for the arched window. I have found it strange those aren't in existence with the many uses of those window frames.

There have been lots of topics, but none lately. The most recent is almost a year old. Yes, this topic has been done to death, but at the same time, there are a lot of new members on here that don't want to necro-post (as I've seen stated before). Even I have been yelled at for bringing back a dead topic, so starting a new one isn't as bad as one might think. As far as the topic goes, I like both, but not together. I agree that both should be able to live in harmony, but I can't make it happen. Yes there is a variety of skin tone in real life, but if you are making it realistic, I would tend to agree that yellow people to this degree do not exist, unless severely jaundiced. I look at the licensed sets and see the "flesh" skin tone and it looks great, then I look at the Modular sets and see the classic yellow smiley and think this is Lego and love them. I look at the un-licensed sets/collectible minifigures and like the detailing of the yellow torsos/heads, but then I look back at the yellow Licensed figures and do not like them at all. I definitely like the variety in skin tone (like the zombies in POTC and the cannibal type in both POTC and Indiana Jones, not to mention the new Lando coming out. I do think we need some more variety in that respect since most of the different skin tones I listed can't be used for every day society. I think this debate will last forever with no definitive winner. Both have pros and cons and both will probably be around for quite some time with the success of both un-licensed and licensed themes. One thing TLG can do is continue to make torsos that don't have either skin tone on it and allow people to swap out as they please.

Out of the sets I own: Diagon Alley. It was amazing seeing those in the newer Lego version. I am a huge HP fan, so it was neat seeing those. A close second is Black Knight's Castle. They are my favorite faction from historic castle and that castle is brilliant with the black walls and the red roofing. Out of the sets I don't own: Skull's Eye Schooner. I don't know if I even remember seeing it as a kid because I know I would have asked my mom for it, but after getting back into Lego I've seen so many pictures of it and I drool everytime. I've considered bricklinking it time and time again. Otherwise, this is a really difficult question with so many great sets that bring back memories and add in all of the great sets with interesting build techniques. Can't wait to read other responses!

I am definitely excited to army build this fella. I was kind of hoping it was a rhino on the shield, but a boar is pretty bad-a too. I am all for it. It'd be neat to have torso printing as well, but not necessary with that detailed armor piece. I may have to incorporate them into some other legion I have. Thanks for the post. I have yet to see my copy.

I am at a cross roads... I don't particularly care for the new Batcave in design and I'm not sure how well I can use a lot of the pieces for MOCs I am considering, but it does have 3 unique minifigures that on Bricklink will cost upwards of $30+ plus shipping, vs just buying the set and keeping the pieces as a bonus. I would have doubles of Batman and Robin since I do have the Funhouse and I'm sure if I ever got into selling Lego I could make some money back. But what does everyone think here? My wife told me to buy the set (I know, sounds like I have my answer), but what does everyone think here? Thank you!
