I got into Star Wars post Lego addiction. I loved lego growing up and went into the dark ages around 1996-ish, so a bit before the licensing world. I never watched any Star Wars movies until the prequels came out in theaters and even then I only saw the first two. I had no interest in them whatsoever, but a friend wanted to go so I went with him. It was years later before I saw the original trilogy (after the first 3, so I guess in the proper order). I only recently got into the Star Wars Lego world (within the last 2 months). I don't know what compelled me to get into it since I've never been a fan really, but some of the figures are neat and it adds a little something to my collection. I still don't care about most of the sets/vehicles, but the figures are what is selling this theme to me. Naturally I didn't have the budget set up for them, so it is tough getting those and the other sets I want. Too bad TLG didn't have a lay-away option! I must just have a Lego shopping problem since I also purchased the Prince of Persia sets (on discount) and that movie was terrible. Oh well, the new SW sets will be neat and inviting with those figures. I'm waiting on a lot of the figures for potential new versions/releases in 2013 with the re-release of AOTC. We shall see..

I ordered early Friday morning CST in USA and they are still all listed as 'In Process.' I've never had such a delay either. Usually when I order they get them shipped out immediately. I realize this being a busy sale day would cause some delays, but when people are saying they ordered some 12 hours after I did and have already shown that it shipped, that makes me worried. I guess if they don't get shipped out with the figure, then I will just return them all and Lego won't get any of my money after all. We shall see what happens.

How do you decide what Lego set to buy?
TheLegoDr replied to Omega X's topic in General LEGO Discussion
As much as I love bricks and building things, I buy most sets for the minifigures first and then take a look at the actual pieces in the set. Only recently I got into Star Wars (never been a fan before) and there are a lot of really nice looking minifigures that I would like to get, but I don't care for some of the ships because I am not a die-hard fan like some others. But I end up buying most of the sets anyway for the figures because it isn't that much more expensive, in most cases. If the set has a handful of pieces I could use for something else, then I ultimately get the set. I would say I bricklink the pieces and figures when there isn't a set that has everything I want, but I think most often I just end up getting the set, eat the cost and keep the spares. I have considered reselling, but I don't know if I can get into that in reality. As far as sets, I look at useful pieces, cool minifigures, price per piece, and overall sale price. I include that last one because I have bought many sets on a really good sale/clearance that I normally would not have purchased otherwise. I suppose that ties in with the price per piece also. But the set has to have some figures or pieces that I originally wanted and the price ended up sealing the deal for me. If you are new to the hobby, I would say look at what you want to be into. If you like minifigures, you can buy them separately, but sometimes paying a little extra can get the complete set and then you have extra pieces/figures/etc. If you want to get into MOCing, then look at sets with useful pieces in larger numbers, or of course, buy them separately from Bricklink or PAB. -
I have made purchases before without my wife knowing it, but after I ordered the pieces I ended up telling her anyway. It was such a good deal, so I couldn't pass it up. She seems to understand most of the time. She likes to buy other things, so with both of us buying things we like, it really adds up fast. Recently we bought her the Friends sets and she thought they were really cute, she said we needed more lego! And it made me happy to hear that, but at the same time I felt that we didn't necessarily need more lego. That will add up much too quickly! For some reason my mom wants to buy me random sets that I want this year so I gave her a list and she has been/will purchase them whenever she sees them in stores. I feel bad allowing this and since my wife and I aren't buying them, it feels like it is in secret. She said she didn't mind, but I don't know what to think. It is interesting reading other people's tales. This thread will definitely make me rethink my future purchases, that's for sure.

I just ordered a little while ago and everything worked fine. Probably had an official start time and maybe the server isn't having as much traffic now as when it first started. I placed two separate orders and both said the poster and figure will be shipping with them. If I had known you could buy the figure by itself, I probably wouldn't have worried about it and just ordered that. Oh well. I will be getting A LOT of sets in the next few days. Too bad it is almost the weekend. It usually takes 1-2 days to receive the product but it will be longer now because of the weekend... Can't wait to see it in person.

Great vehicles. I absolutely love the VW. I may need to try to build one myself. That 2CV is very impressive too. Very spot on. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the review. It is neat seeing other pictures. The overall figure still looks great, probably better than originally thought. I almost wasn't going to buy anything today and miss out on this figure altogether, but I caved and will be receiving two of them. I do think the hands stand out a bit more than originally thought, but that's okay. They don't look too out of place. And since I don't have any other chrome figures, I will let it slide. I just watched The Phantom Menace the other night and saw TC in all her glory.

That is really neat. I also was not considering that set, but this is worthwhile of an alternate model for sure. I may have to rethink that. The color scheme works great and the fact that you can fit two side by side (which I am still getting used to) is wonderful. Keep up the good work!

Set 6081 is the only set unscathed from the beginning of my dark ages until now. It has never been disassembled since I first got it when it was originally released. Very odd for sure since my favorite all-time castle is the Black Knight's Castle, which upon exiting my dark ages, I immediately assembled. I was just considering this the other day about "rebooting" some of these older sets in a more modern style. I'm not sure if I ever will get around to it since I have so many other MOCs on my plate/list, but it is a very neat idea. The wolfpack were some of my favorite figures/sets also, but with all those great factions it is tough to choose just one. To me, that really was the Golden Age of the castle theme. I can't wait to see other people's creations if they do end up restyling these classic castles.

Very beautiful building. I always like seeing tan/dark tan/dark green together in some combination and this fits right in. I was planning on doing something similar detail wise in parts and I'm glad to see it does look good. I haven't had time to put all the pieces together, so it's nice seeing it in person. I like working with tan a lot, so this is looking good. I would say enter the contest, but I don't want the competition Keep up the great work. Can't wait to see more.

I really am into microscale sets these days. Especially versions/inspirations of iconic scenes. I am just recently getting into Star Wars, but I would want to build your mini models and display them so it wouldn't take up so much room to display other things. I may have to try my hand at this scale for other movies (including SW) that I want to display scenes from. Keep up the great work. I can't wait to see more!

To clarify, are we allowed to use official Lego stickers/decals also or only decals made by us? I am excited to build something. I think I will come up with something for all three categories. That gives me a month per category...or so it seems. I created a Mini Modular for the toysnbricks contest so I will have to create something else. As for a park and rec idea, I have a decent one. And a full scale Modular, I've been meaning to build one anyway, so this is a good excuse. Can't wait to see what the prizes will be. Thanks for putting on this contest! Any excuse to play with, er, I mean build with is a good idea to me.

Blaze asked about Orc Forge specifically, as it was not included in the list you gave. That is the only reason I posted so shortly after you. That would be neat if they came out before June 1st though. I probably will save mine for Christmas. Too many sets coming out this year.

I really like that doctor figure for sure. I will most likely bricklink him. Hopefully they fix that printing. I like the set overall, but I doubt I will get one. The build looks interesting enough and it would work well in a city theme, but since my city is only Modulars, I would have to mod this quite a bit. I will just wait until they come out with an official Modular hospital, or maybe make my own for this contest running currently. Thanks for the review. Keep up the good work.

Orc Forge is available for Pre-order on Target.com. It is at $39.99 and says it will ship 6/1. I would imagine it will be in stores at that time then also. Can't wait!

WW Category 2: 1908 Wild West Town
TheLegoDr replied to marshal_banana's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
The nice thing about this set-up, you can remove the Model T and place it in an earlier time and it would still fit right in. Although, I do love that Model T. I voted for the Gun Store, mostly because of the color scheme and siding, but all of the buildings are beautiful. I love the Stage Coach and that Model T. It would be great to see this hit 10,000 supporters and get made into a theme, not just a set. I'm sure TLG would change the buildings and whatnot, but if they keep along similar lines, it would be okay. Maybe if it hits the 10,000 mark, TLG could contemplate an early 1900s theme instead of just Wild West, although I welcome either/both. -
I was excited when I first heard of the new cowl, and then disappointed since I didn't have any versions of it. But after seeing a side-by-side comparison, I much prefer the older one. I think even if they do design a new head for the new cowl, I still like the older version. We shall see if any new developments come from this..maybe this summer??
-
I think there is a lot of potential left with this theme. I got all three last Christmas (thankfully they reissued the Toy Shop). The Post Office was purchased after Christmas at $52.xx or something near there instead of the original price of $69.99. That would probably be why it didn't sell well (if that is the case). You do get more pieces and a neat building, but $70 is a bit steep. Luckily Lego S@H had it on sale at that time. As far as a future release, a lodge of some sort makes the most sense. Release date is probably near October, so it might be late summer before we have any reliable information on the future of this series. Yet another set I completely spaced on when trying to budget for Lego this year...

Napoleon53 Get both . As much as I love the Modulars, I fell in love with the Diagon Alley set, but I am a huge HP fan. I think the 3 buildings in HP do the source material justice and the figures are really neat too. I currently have the Grand Emporium sealed waiting to be built so I don't know what that is like. If your city consists of many other modulars that will probably fit better, but if you like to MOC your own, I say go for Diagon Alley. BigRedGoat I would say Grand Emporium since it will be gone first. I can't say anything about the final product or the build other than from pictures, but I think they both would add something nice to your set-up.

I first thought of the death eater Yaxley when I saw that outfit. Something about him from the 7th film jumps out at me here. Either way, it is a nice send-off, but I would have liked something different.
-
Thanks for the review. I've seen that for sale a few times, but never considered picking it up. I do like that Plo Koon figure though. The color scheme works well and the overall design/shape of the ship looks nice. It might be worth a pick up.

I just recently got into Star Wars so I haven't had any figures or locations. I'm not a huge fan of the CW faces, but I do agree it is the source material, so they are actually doing a really good job with that. Some of the sets are actually pretty neat. The non-humans are definitely must-haves, for me at least. The humans I would prefer regular Lego faces and more often than not they exist. With SW getting another 10 years added to their license, I would imagine many figures will be remade so everyone will be happy. And with the first 3 episodes being re-released into theaters over the next few years we will probably be getting a lot more of those locations and figures that weren't previously released. My best guess is to wait it out. I don't love the CW faces, but I still bought some of the sets and swapped out the heads. At the very least I have some other Jedi robes or Clone "armor" to still recreate armies or scenes. As long as the sets are selling, they will keep making them this way. But I'm sure over time they will mix it up a bit with OT, PT, and CW figures/locations.
-
That is brilliant. I love mini-scale creations any more. From my memory of the movie (been 5+ years) I can easily see a resemblance. This is cleverly designed and built and would be really neat to see it on a shelf for display. I may have to consider building more iconic scenes in mini-scale form just to save room for display. Simply brilliant. Keep up the good work!

Should Avatar: The Last Airbender be reintroduced?
TheLegoDr replied to Makuta's topic in LEGO Licensed
I have no interest whatsoever in Avatar, but at the same time I voted yes because "why not?" I want Lego to release many sets that may have interesting pieces/figures. I have no knowledge of The Last Airbender or this Legend of Korra, so I don't know what the figures would look like or what the sets would look like. But if Lego can make something appealing, then why not. More than likely it won't happen though due to previous stated statements such as Ninjago being a huge hit right now. -
