I unfortunately do not have any close up shots of my build. Hopefully if I ever figure out how to work my wife's fancy camera, I will. With that said, my changes were basically very little dark blue. All of the 2x2 plates and technic bricks on the inside were all changed to other colors that were cheaper that I had on hand. Like I said, I basically had to order very little, so I went with colors I had available. I did away with jester hats and no heads. Instead I built different gold accented designs to take their place. I also didn't use the 16L white axle like the original. I used the 2L light bley axle connectors to make it look a bit more solid. And my bottom steps are actually solid instead of open on the front. And I didn't use any stickers on the center section like the original had. I instead used a pattern of trans studs to make it look like it will light up centrally on the tower. I would say darkhorse00 did a really good job on the horses. I made my own rides too since I didn't like the horses that came with the original. I actually just used Kingdoms printed horses and had them stationary, then used other rides I built to make them go up and down. I would say overall mine looks decent. It is definitely different than the above two shared and the original. It's nice to put your own spin on things. Hopefully I'll get some pictures sometime.

Any chance of Lord of the rings sets coming back?
TheLegoDr replied to stella2015's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Let's not discuss this. It brings up too much heartache from when they first canceled the line. Yes, they could have done a lot more with it, but I'm guessing they released what they wanted to release based on their license. I doubt any company is in the business to lose money, so they were probably limited to what they could release. It just happened to not be exactly what adult fans wanted. It is unfortunate with Dimensions. They could have done something differently there instead of Gandalf, Gimli, and Legolas. Oh well. This happens with ALL licenses. I'd love a Sao Feng figure from POTC, that will not happen either. I'd love Pintel and Ragetti figures also. Won't happen. -
I love building modulars. They can be very time and parts consuming though. I currently have 3 or 4 WIPs, which is standard, because things always end up taking the front seat. However, there is a lot of good information above me that has been written by a lot of great builders. Stick to the TOWN forum and you will come up with a lot of goodies. Certainly, I would agree that you want to look at some neat architectural details in real life and see if you want to try to incorporate that into LEGO form. Another thing I like doing, look on EB, pinterest, flickr or just a random google search and see what other builders have done. You can come up with some neat techniques that you might not have thought of originally. I don't like stealing other people's ideas, but if I can incorporate it into a build and put my own spin on it, then it can help make you a better builder. Other times, of course, just give credit for where you saw it. Sometimes you can't improve upon perfection. I never use LDD. I haven't in years. I don't have the time. A lot of great planners can use it and are quite proficient with it. Not this guy. I tend to either draw it out on paper and then when I do have time, I try to build certain sections to see how it looks in real life considering my drawings are not to scale. Or I just go with the thought in my head and try to build from that. I tend not to have a lot of time to actually build, so I sometimes will have a lot of planning done and other times I will have no planning done. Don't be afraid to destroy. I always have a hard time taking something apart to change it if I come up with something different later. But don't be afraid to do that. Yes, it can be frustrating and time intensive, but if you are unwilling to take something apart, then things just sit in WIP or you forget about them. I've tossed aside too many MOCs because I got frustrated and just quit working on it.

I bricklinked one, although it was heavily modified. I went to regular red for the slopes and I used thick paper for the canopies. I built the whole thing for less than $100 since I had most of the pieces already. Also, not a deal breaker, but the sound brick is quite hefty also. I didn't splurge on anything for it though. Although I will say I was not impressed with how it ran. The way it is designed, it is not a very smooth rotation and I think LEGO could come up with a much better mechanism if they did a new one in the near future (which I've heard rumors, but you never know). Are you saying you want to buy the Lepin set and get official LEGO canopy? I'm lost why Lepin was brought up at all...

The topic was making me think of something in the shape of chocolate eggs without actually being chocolate..and yes it did involve a bunny...

I was suspecting this to be buried in the jungle a bit.. Overall it looks good. For some reason I'd expect a more medium blue to be used. Either way, it should fit into a town setting (or jungle) quite well.

This looks amazing. The clock is really well done, so kudos. The buildings look coherent and in good style/design. The minifigure placement works well. I am curious, what torso is the dark red and dark blue/gold accented torso with the gentlemen with the food court (carrots area). I'm guessing it is the back of a torso, but I've never seen that before. I really like it. Also, where did you get licensed skin tone bare chested guys. That works really well for the guards.

LegoShroom - the face looks the same to me. I love the very first image. The large hand looks very intimidating.

Brilliant. Only word there is. So many little details. You created a great scene here. It should fit right in with other modulars, which is always one of my goals. Some modulars go overboard, but there is a nice mixture here. I've struggled with colors at times, but you seem to tie them in together pretty well here. The sand green stands out quite well with the medium nougat. I'm not sure on the dark red and tan tower together, but I like them individually. The car is a nice addition. I am never sure how to build older style cars since the scale changes in official sets.

Minifig scale Humvee
TheLegoDr replied to shimon's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Incredibly impressive. I had no idea you could do something at that scale. I know nothing of technic, so I guess I'm not surprised at how you created it.- 6 replies

There are some interesting ideas floating around here. I agree that it needs to be more coherent, but a valiant first effort. I saw this on brickset forum, but decided not to comment, so I guess I'll comment here. (I wasn't logged in at the time on bs). Interiors are always fun and I know not everyone does them. I have an urge to always do them in my own buildings, then I never finish the building. Even though no one ever looks inside, I want to have it "complete."

I will definitely pick this up since I also passed on the BvS set, but mainly because I assumed she would be the same in the next set (similar to how Vision is similar enough). But seeing this, I don't think I necessarily NEED the other version of her, although I do want her other shield too. This set looks good overall. The plane looks fine, but I will likely part it out. Ares looks good for another giant figure. I hope they make others and release them, either in sets or like Brickheadz in their own boxes(only as actual big figures like this). I hadn't realized, another war veteran named Steve.

Benny's Spaceship on steroids! Looks good. You've incorporated a lot of familiar classic space elements here. I really like the rear top. It has good shaping and color balance.
-
Very clever. I like how it all fits together. The flooring is a nice effect and it feels just like an aquarium with how close they are to the "glass." Well done.

Oddly enough, I own the movie because it is a classic, but I've never actually seen it. Maybe this Halloween I'll pop it in. The build style is very interesting. The scale works really well together. The comical eyes are kind of weird, but the rest really stands out to me. Kudos. I've been wanting to build miniland size figures for a while.

[MOC] AC Cobra 427
TheLegoDr replied to shimon's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is incredible. I know very little about technic, but I'd love to have this on my shelf. Black looks great. I distinctly remember blue and white when I was a kid, so any shape or color, this is a great looking car/MOC. You captured so many little details that I wouldn't think would be possible based on the medium used. Well done. -
The dinosaurs look good, but I'm actually more interested in the terrain and water effects. Those play nicely into things I build. Although, I thought Brontosaurus technically wasn't real (I thought it was a misnomer). Either way, it looks like a great collection. Good job.

The LEGO Batman Movie Set/CMF Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Sir Gareth's topic in LEGO Licensed
That would have been neat. I live 3 hours from a store, so I wouldn't be able to get it anyway. But since I have the other 4, it would be a nice collection. But in reality, they just sit in a pile for me, so I guess I'm not missing out on anything. -
Book II, Challenge V, Category C: How I Met Our King
TheLegoDr replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Guilds of Historica
Interesting story. I like the micro scale, and forced perspective. That was clever. And oddly I really like the CMF king with the black ruff and black morion. That is really striking to me for some reason.- 17 replies

I still have yet to see Rogue One, so I don't know any of the references, but I do love what I am seeing. My mind doesn't work that way. I can't visualize futuristic buildings, even though they aren't that different from modern Modulars (which I love building). But that sci-fi flair is a unique talent people have (you being one of them). So well done for sure. I'd like to see more. And I'd like to try my hand at something like this in the future. I love all of the details you here.

MOD: Park Street Townhouse 31065 as a modular row of houses
TheLegoDr replied to finnbricker's topic in LEGO Town
I was waiting for someone to do this. This set is already a tiny modular. I was planning on doing something similar once I pick up the set, but I'm waiting for a sale price. And I like the dark red bottom better than the sand green bottom. I'm not sure why the set has both colors, maybe to add variety? But I'm the person that HAS to have an interior and stairs, so as well as this works, I think I'll still have to figure out how to do some interior stairs.- 15 replies

Looks great. Nostalgia makes me feel sad. All those old style bluecoats... The building looks fun too. Not many pieces available? Yet you have enough to create this, so kudos.

Very clever. I like the shaping very much.

MOD: Vacation Getaways 31052 as a modular building
TheLegoDr replied to finnbricker's topic in LEGO Town
Interesting idea. I had wanted those windows because of the color, but I didn't know of the 3n1 option for a smaller house. Either way, this should fit in pretty well with most modular streets. For some reason I HAVE to create an interior and stairs for each level, so I have many WIPs because of it. I'd love to scrap that idea and build just the building/facade so I can line them up easier, but for some reason I can't. Either way, thanks for sharing.- 10 replies
