Limited Edition Lego Christmas Set 2012 1/1
TheLegoDr replied to GRogall's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Is there an official MSRP just for records sake? I realize it is a "freebie", but there must be a price somewhere similar to the Shirtless Darth Maul costing $4.99 or something (even though it is $20+ in the aftermarket). Thanks!- 67 replies

I had the chance to get 7965 Millennium Falcon for $65, so I am quite pleased. I contemplated it a lot, but I decided to pull the trigger in the end at that price.
-
That is one way to go about it. The only problem I have with it is usually you can pay just a little more and get the whole set plus the figures. But I guess I don't know how prices are in Croatia. Have fun with that though. The figures look awesome.

I agree with a few people here. I don't care for the mutant henchmen at all, but then again I haven't seen the source material. But I am psyched for the actual turtle minifigs that I grew up loving. I don't mind the new Kraang, but Shredder, the soldiers, and the turtles are spot on. I will wait to see Splinter in person before I make a judgment.

I agree with that exactly. If people knew how many were left or how long until it is retired, it could artificially inflate the aftermarket prices. But for honest people like myself, it would be good to know when it will be retired so we can plan accordingly. I do think it would help move those products a little easier knowing they will be gone forever. A lot of people are on the fence with sets all the time. My other concern is if it isn't on the list, is it not planning on going away anytime soon. Even though logically you could follow the average timespan they were available for in the past. But in that situation, a lot of sets could be retired soon that aren't on that list, some of which I would be on the fence about. Oh well, it's a nice idea. But I guess even if scalpers did stock up on them, it still puts the money in TLG's pockets. So it is win-win for them.

Very nicely done! I even like how you put the print in LEGO form and the figure in the corner. This is a very faithful recreation in brick form. Good luck in the contest! Keep up the good work.

SH-CCC: Deadpool: Wave Of Mutilation, Part 2: Surrender The Booty
TheLegoDr replied to KZB's topic in LEGO Licensed
I like it. I'm not a fan of Deadpool, but I think this is a very accurate recreation. Even though he doesn't have legs that can bend in that way, it almost looks as if he is standing like that. Great posing. I would agree about the female head, but it might be hard to come by. I picked up one with sunglasses at the build a minifigure, but I don't think it would look right in this setting either. And I didn't see any other female heads with sunglasses on bricklink. Good luck in the contest. Keep up the good work. -
I was wondering about some of those figures . But all in all, a nice theater. I really like the carriages and the light posts outside. The roof is nice also. Thanks for showing us your creation. Keep up the good work.

No More Elrond Minifigures Available?!?
TheLegoDr replied to Deathleech's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I preordered whenever it was first available to preorder, so a long time ago. I have yet to receive a phone call or email stating anything is available. I guess I'll just swing by the store after work and see what happens. If no figure, then I will just return on the spot.- 146 replies

I loved the Imperial Soldiers, but I think Pirates were the market for sure. I never really noticed the ships were of different size. Meaning, I enjoyed playing with both the BSB and the CC and didn't think about it. I think the Imperials were under the notion that it isn't the size of the vessel, but the motion in the ocean (perhaps meaning they were able to outmaneuver the Pirates and get the upper hand). Although modern times, I was trying to convert the BSB into an Imperial ship of some sort and I was modding the QAR into a more impressive ship to counter the IFS.

I would also really enjoy a Forestmen and/or Wolfpack theme. I loved them when I was younger. And with the series 1 CMF Forestman, they have an idea. But that might just be a nod to the past theme also. A lot of people have speculated about a new Black Falcon theme since the inclusion of one in the Joust set, which would also be welcomed. Although they made his colors green and black instead of blue and black, so that is disappointing.

Sounds like you have it figured out. But I would also suggest keeping it. So have fun with that :). I know it's in the box, but it is still nice to have some of the sets in your possession.

Thanks for the review! I don't know much about trains or LEGO trains, but it's neat to see either way. I really wanted the Emerald Night, but I missed out on that. I don't think I'll be picking this up though. I realize electric is the future, but there is something about the steam engine. This set has some neat features and SNOT work is always interesting to see. Orange is a nice color to offset the other many LEGO colors, but I wouldn't have guessed they'd build a set in it. The figures don't look really new at all, but it is nice to have a collection to "play" out some scenes, even though most "experts" probably aren't playing with the sets. Thanks again.

It's neat seeing a figure from every angle and whatnot, but those reviewers could certainly shorten their preview and probably mute themselves while they are at it. I'm not into Clone Wars though, so I'm not too interested in that figure. But the character would be cool in a non-CW version (which I don't think will ever exist due to her not being in the PT).

Aw, Deathleech beat me to it. I also thought Mickey should be Vader's father. hehe But it is a very nice build. Very fitting!

Limited Edition Lego Christmas Set 2012 1/1
TheLegoDr replied to GRogall's topic in Special LEGO Themes
That's a cute little set. I would definitely be wanting to get that, but I won't be anywhere near a LEGO brand store nor is there anything I could reasonably afford online. All I have left are expensive exclusives. But I like the black light pole (I much prefer those to the white) and the sleigh is really neat. I'm sure it'd be easy to build with my own existing pieces, but it's nice to have it in a set too.- 67 replies

I didn't find anything in the search function, so I thought I would pose the question here. I saw on toysnbricks that S@H now has a new search tag allowing you to see which sets will be retiring soon. Does anyone have any other information about that? As in, are all of the sets not on that list still okay to wait on, and any ideas as to how long until they will be retired officially? I think it is a great idea to let the consumer know (even though most retail doesn't) when something will no longer be available so you can plan accordingly. I've been wanting a few sets that have been out for a while, but they aren't on that list, so I'm not sure about if I should wait to get them until they do pop up on that list or just get them. Obviously, money is the issue since they are more expensive sets. Thanks for any information, comments, etc.

What should I buy?: Google Nexus, Ipad mini or a Kindle Fire HD?
TheLegoDr replied to Jackattack7's topic in Community
That is exactly the same question my wife was asking for me. She wants to get me a tablet. Her little brother is getting a Google Nexus, which we have heard a lot of good things about. Plus, with that price, you can't go wrong. However, I worry that it could be the next Microsoft Zune. A well known company trying to break into the market only to fall flat. But only time will tell on that. Out of prices, you can't go wrong with the Kindle Fire HD (or 2nd generation Fire). The CEO of Amazon even stated that they are selling the Kindles for much less than they should because of all of the added content you can purchase. My wife has a 2nd gen Fire and she really enjoys it and the HD seems to blow that out of the water. I am leaning towards that for myself, but only because I haven't done the necessary footwork for the research elsewhere. If you put forward a little more money you could go with the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 " due to the higher resolution and slightly faster processor. This is a nice little comparison table (it might be skewed since on Amazon website), but taking that at face value the Fire seems like a steal. Plus, I like the unlimited cloud storage availability. Good luck on your purchase. I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you end up getting. Let us know what you think of the final product. I'm sure someone else on here will be able to help you more than I can. I don't have anything on iTunes so I can't explain that. -
I really like it overall. I am not a huge fan of the monotone front and most of the sand green would be lost when next to other Modulars. I'd almost rather see some splashes of color on the front to tie it all in. But as a 16 wide, it packs a lot of detail. I really like the railings and the front steps. The interior is nicely done. I like the Doctor's office, although for a 16 wide it isn't very roomy (or private with the patient talking down the stairs). I really like the bookcase. I built a library for the Modular Madness contest, but I had to throw the bookcases together quickly because I was running out of time for the deadline. But all in all I do really like this. There are some nice features here I would like to incorporate into my own town layout. Keep up the good work. I like seeing your new creations.

It's a shame the two Nutes are so different looking since he has other advisors too. It'd be nice to pretend one of the Nutes is the other one. It might be weird with two different skin tones of the same race of alien. Either way, funny comics! I really like the never trick or treat at Jabba's. Brilliant!

That looks neat! Isn't there a MOC of one in one of those LEGO idea books or the new Batman encyclopedia? Either way, it looks great! Keep up the good work. I wish the pick a brick near here had 1x2 clear plates.

I doubt prices would ever go down, but it would be possible they just wouldn't increase as quickly. If things are selling well at this price point, I doubt they would lower it when they are making the kind of money they are now.

The figures are neat looking, but not as exciting as I first thought with the Character book glimpse. It is interesting that they have face printing AND mask molds to go over it with similar printing. I guess LEGO figured not everyone would love the head molds?? Some of the heads do look off with the way the eyes are in proportion, but at the same time, it does add variety I suppose. I'm unsure if I will be getting any with all of these other themes coming out and needing a better budget next year. But it will be neat to see how it stacks up against Ninjago.

Black Seas Barracuda's little secrets you might not know
TheLegoDr replied to Boomchil's topic in LEGO Pirates
Thanks for the read! It was very interesting. I remember getting this set when I was a kid, probably around 7 or 8. I was very excited. When I came out of my Dark Ages, it was one of the first old sets I built. I still have it displayed in my basement. I guess I didn't notice the cannons didn't shoot in the US version since almost all of my cannons shoot, so I still got to enjoy that. But I must have 4 cannons that are non-shooting then with this set. I know I have over 16 shooting cannons, at least, according to bricklink. It was nice seeing the original boxes again. I haven't seen them in a long time. I miss the old big sets with the flap that you could look into and seeing those crisp sails . I hope to read some more fun facts about older Pirate sets. I miss those days.- 49 replies
