Control+ General Discussion
Gimmick replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Where is PF gone? And 9V, 12V, 4,5V? 27MHz? Infrared? Some things disappear fast, others do not. Because it is actually not all the same. That's why I said: BT is already there for > 30 years and it is getting more and more common in various devices, cars,... I do get your point, and yes if it's only a simple switch with two cables it will last long(er). And even it it's broken, it can be easily fixed. That is undeniable true and the way to go if reliability over centuries is your goal. But what does this mean? Remote controller? Not possible. Multiple trains with different speed/direction on one track? Not possible. Different motor speed? Not possible. Everything beyond that already shares the same problems. And in almost every discussion in the end it's the same fictive situation: What if every hardware does still work, but the software moved on? In this case lego did actually chose with BT the right technology. It's common, reliable, growing and downwards compatible and they published the protocoll. Using IR in the first place was the mistake. But what if the hardware is broken? What is the plan if the IR controller does not work anymore in 30 years? Buy a new one? Not possible. Repair it yourself? Good luck. That's even a problem with 2,4 Ghz devices. There is no compatibility across companies. Will they still produce compatible controllers in 30 years? Who knows... Priorizing longlivity? No problem, go for it, but I hope it's ok if I'm not satisfied with turning things on and off. Thinking PF will live forever because no software is involved? Nope. :) For me in terms of longlivity Lego was wrong designing their own plugs for PU. Everything else is fine. -

He's from the future!!1 *Btw. BT 31 years -
Nope, I think it's the slowest of all PU motors and has roughly the same speed as the PF XL motor. But with a few gears... ;D

That's not a servo. You can use the angular motor with some gears for the linear actuators. Maybe the C+ App is sensitive enough to detect the limits of the actuators ^^.

I would never let dirt on my hauler Climbing test: loses grip at ~38° on my carpet but the wheels never stop. Without load of course. I think that's totally fine for a model of this size. Nevertheless I thought about removing the fake motor in the front and replace it with a XL-Motor. The rotation speed would then have to be calculated for each gear to match the main drive shaft, not sure if there would be a huge improvement this way. But since the steering motor doen't work anyway in Pu, maybe a first step would be: Replace the angular motor -.-

I had exactly the same problem. I did some tests with other liftarms, sleeves and axe stoppers as spacers, red gears from my parts box.... and it actually never realy worked, the red gear was always too thick for a friction free rotation. I replaced them with a normal 16 teeth gear and a 3L axle. Edit: I will try some other combinations tomorrow or at the weekend.
-
I have finished building it today and one thing irritates me: In third gear there is rattling sound. You can hear it in @kbalage 's video at 4:18 I guess the source is the red gear Does anyone has an idea why this happens and if it is a problem? My guess is, that the red gear is not in sync with the axle so it slips constantly - annoying but no problem. But not sure if that's correct. It's realy a huge model and I think it looks better than in videos. Those nose does goes a bit down, but if you add some weight to the dump bed it gets straighter. And as an addition: Brickgarage postet a few variants of other connections of the main drive axle: 26:40 It's in russian - I do not understand him either, but the images are enough :) I replaced the center diff by a simple 16 teeth gear. Now it's up to Lego to get the angular motor running in PU ... -.-

Hopefully kids never get in touch with "screens" and stuff, so they do not become one of those zombies!!11 Kids should have some toys, that they just can turn on and play immediatley, that's why I will give them something that will take them hours to assemble! And I will turn on GPS when using BrickController2 even tough I do not have to! There is realy an interesting "scissors if rejection" when it comes to PU/technic.One side always sais: "Mimimi everything is too easy, back when I was young it was far more difficult, we ha dto concentrate and we learned something from technic!" While the other side is like: "It has to be more simple, it far to complicated for kids". I don't know... swap children maybe? Yes, I get your point, yes PU/C+ is no fun for a one year old, yes driving a car with a physical remote controll is more fun. Do I know what a universal remote controller would look like that automagically works with all(!) models ? No. Do I want to by a specialized controller for each model? No. Do I want to pay for a programmable controller that basically would be an android device with attached controlls just for Lego while I already own a BT controller and a smartphone? No. Would I buy large technic sets with programming options for someone who has not even enough patience to turn the devices on? No. Do I like the programming features? Yes. Do I think kids are smart enough to handle those things? Yes. Is C+/PU in my opinion perfect? No. Do I think there is a perfect solution? No....

@TeamThrifty If you are referring to me: I'm realy the "glass is half full" guy and I like PU/C+. But it's hard to use, edit or create your own stuff, if the new motor simply does not work in PU. There were two updates of PU in the last few days -> nothing changed. The Spike Prime motor is there since months and I always said "well, spike prime is somewhat different etc. they have their own software". But know we have a new technic motor, that is exactly the Spike motor in grey only with a new ID and it does not work at all in PU... Since all technic motors are (in terms of features, protocoll etc) basically the same, the only thing that stops them from working is something like a list with compatible IDs. How hard can it be to keep this up to date? My set will arrive tomorrow (I hope) and if it indeed still does not work I will try to use those "generic ID" blocks... maybe something will work.

Indeed a missed opportunity. :| Does the angular motor work now correctly in PU?

Hmm, does anyone else has the effect, that new PU-profiles are not visible in ...\Activities anymore? If I create and paste a profile I created by hand it still shows up in PU, but if I create a new profile in the PU-App nothing new is visible in the windows file explorer. Even a search for new files shows nothing.

No idead where to post it, there are so many threads... :D Powered up 3.3.1 was released two days ago. Has anyone any idea what changed? Do maybe the angled motors work now completely? -
A company admits mistake and adheres to its principles --> sad day for fans. xD It's sad, that they were stupid enough to make the model with a licence in the first place.
-
The set has been discussed since the Nürnberg Toy Fair in February. It is extremely unlikely (no way) that the actions of the DFG-VK in recent days are solely responsible for this. Especially when you look at how quickly Lego reacted. The original "set is cancled text" is on the page i postet.

Here's a link: link " The LEGO Technic Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey was designed to highlight the important role the aircraft plays in search and rescue efforts. While the set clearly depicts how a rescue version of the plane might look, the aircraft is only used by the military. We have a long-standing policy not to create sets which feature real military vehicles, so it has been decided not to proceed with the launch of this product. We appreciate that some fans who were looking forward to this set may be disappointed, but we believe it’s important to ensure that we uphold our brand values. And what happened happened... and cannot be undone. For me it would be ok if they release it, pay money to a charity organisation or whatever, cancel upcoming sets of this type and do not do it again. :) Showing insight is the goal here.

Not to mention "Gabelstaplerfahrer Klaus" That forklift has blood on its hands/forks! In any case, I don't want to swap places with the Lego managers now. I couldn't sleep anymore :<
