[WIP] Audi R8
Gimmick replied to Jeroen Ottens's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Disclaimer: PoweredUp app does currently not save the state when the app is closed, so I assume that the model is always shut down in an initial state (first gear, first mode, steering at center,...) or has to be calibrated every time. I would count 5 modes: chairs, ridemode, spoiler, doors, drive Mode selection with 1 button: 1,2,3,4,5,1,2... the numbers can be displayed, the function behind cannot be described Mode 1-4: The sliders control both L motors or one slider for both motors (spoiler needs only one motor?) Mode 5: The slider control 2XL for driving and L for steering + optional: switch first L motor to spoiler mode and lower/rise spoiler depending on motor speed Mode 1-5: two buttons for gear up/down. Gear can be displayed as number Work: A lot! I'm sure @kbalage would be happy to help xD :p I would recommend to use his basic driving interface as basis. :) -

The amount of functions is realy impressive, I will have to read a few things again to understand what exactly is going on. Maybe, as Gray Gear already said, you can add some more pictures or a video that shows the functions. Did I understand correctly, that you have: 2 motors to select the function for each seat individually 2 motors to drive the selected function for both seats 1 motor for the sequential gear 1 motor for driving 1 motor for steering ? If you do not want to open the doors while driving, this may be possible to configure in the poweredup app. -
Exactly. Or maybe even leave it as it is, but add some plates on the bonnet to make if more "curved", so the cab height gets decreased from the bottom.

Thanks for sharing! That's a realy huge dump-bed... The XL motor will probably give up on slight inclines when the truck is fully loaded.

I'm also not a fan of Lego RC models in general, but: It is a dump truck. Without RC there would be a HOD steering and a motor for the dump bed or a pneumatic system (would be nice :( ). There is literally exactly one function in this model and it doesn't even need a gearbox. You lose nothing in this case if you RC it. The use of "direct steering" and not using actuators has nothing to do with PU/PF. If it's more of a general criticism: "PU features" that are currently used: - Servo replacement - avoid self-collision through callibration - Gearbox replacement for different speeds Classic "smart and mechanical" solutions without "magic" programming: - Servo - Self collision with clutch gear - Gearbox with Servo - but not in a model of that size. -> Yes, it is possible to simplify the mechanics with PU. Has it ever realistically happend? No. With PU things are possible that cannot be done with PF, so the obvious solution is: Expand the possibilities of mechanics with the features of PU.

If you want to remote controll all functions simultaneously -> At least one motor for one function is the way to go. General criticism from the past: There are so many nice ultimate version of XY where you can control everything at same time, why doesn't Lego .... ;) Steering with actuators is pretty simple and much cooler :D And with the new PU System you can use "servo like" behavior anyway. I don't think that's the case. In fact I think PU adds a lot to the educational aspect.

so much criticism just because you have a real template to compare ... The curse of licensing...

Dump bed and cabin are one or two studs too high. If you don't use the stickers, it should not be that hard to fix. Suspension: We will see. For me it looks like a great, big, licenced toy. Child toy, not AFOL-toy.

Is it realy a technic hub on the image? It looks like it only has two ports (one visible)? -
Did they use multiple 2L black pins instead of single 3L blue pins? :O What is going on with Lego? Edit: pins with half length in orange?

The MK version does of course use normal XL/servo motors. I do not know how they build the suspension, I just saw a picture. -

Since the Lego Fan Media Days were Friday and Saturday and now is still a holiday, maybe something will come this week. 42099 ;) There is a knockoff from Mould King.
