  1. Surprisingly the little buggy in the set has white wheels! Gray would have made sense but white is strange. Anyway: Here's a Multi Build I just finished using pieces from 2 copies of 70821: It's a redux of the classic Mobile Rocket Transport! I can't believe how much of it I was able to recreate using just two copies of 70821. Pretty happy with how it turned out. Link to album: https://www.flickr.com/photos/75562601@N00/albums/72157703707290211/with/45619733305/ Here's the original set:
  2. Nice! I always loved trans-colored storage doors.
  3. My first alternate build from that set:
  4. Hmm so how do you make a cool Space theme that is different enough from Star Wars to not compete with it (i.e. not piss off Disney)? Make it more exploration/space slice-of-life based Ideas: space mining (already mentioned), space rescue, robot repair/recovery, space junk removal, etc Have a mix of spaceships and other cool things like Mecha or Combiners; both of those are Sci-Fi and Spacey but not something Star Wars is really known for Have conflict not based on war possible alternatives: Pirates/Spies (think Blacktron or Spyrius), space races, rescues, mecha competitions, first to the treasure Have a cartoon with characters and a storyline -- not sure if anything can succeed these days without something like this Keep "one foot in" the Classic Space mythos; keep the Classic Space symbol with throwbacks to all the old factions and color schemes; have a likeable character from each faction in the cartoon. This strongly ties the universe to Lego's own brand and preempts any accusations of copying Star Wars. Always have colored canopies and vibrant color schemes
  5. That clinches it. The universe is officially conforming to my will. Listens to Mitch Murder
  6. Three thoughts: Deck out my extra copy of Spaceship Spaceship Spaceship with the squad See what I can build with multiple copies of these sets Go crazy building all kinds of Classic Space mocs with these guys as crew. We have enough trans yellow windscreens from recent sets (Batman for example) and the Classic Space printed slope, so we can basically make anything.
  7. WOO HOO!!! Check your local Barnes & Nobles! They weren't on the shelves yet at my store so I asked an employee. He said they probably had them in back but they probably weren't allowed to sell them yet. I had to convince the guy there that they were indeed allowed to sell these sets as of today.
  8. I'm going to predict that these are going to be the same kind of realistic modern-era space sets we've seen before in Town/City. NASA-style shuttles, satellites, and buggies. Specifically not-sci-fi at all. Totally with you on TLM2 sets!
  9. I don't know how I feel about this. "So close, yet so far" comes to mind.
  10. Robots and dragons. But yeah, that is unquestionably a spaceship, which (like you said) is a first in Creator.
  11. My god, those classic style helmets look amazing!
  12. Exactly what I thought! Now for some awesome Chibi/Super Deformed stuff by STICK KIM. Battlestar Galactica, Cowboy Bebop, Macross, Star Wars, and some real jet fighters for good measure: OH MY GOD SOMEONE MADE BATTLE BEASTS! Did anyone else have these toys in the 80s? Battle Beasts by Garry: Here's an awesome mech called the Tyrannosaurus Jump Jet by Bongobert:
  13. Space Defender by Gregory St: Bench Fighter by Chris Giddens:
  14. Apparently the 2018 Lego Employee Gift set includes a Blacktron minifig. https://candidbricks.com/2018/12/11/2018-lego-employee-gift-lego-4002018-revealed/
  15. Aw dang. I knew I was going to do that eventually! I didn't even notice that! Yeah, very different look with just a minor color swap. Part of me thinks M-Tron would look better with more gray and less black. Funny how white is only used on the minifigs and the control panels.
  16. I've been derelict of duty for too long! Hammer Fighter by Ben Smith: SP1 Y Wing by Elephant-Knight: Fire Fighting Mech by Khairul Nizam M-Tron Scout by Damien Labrouse By the same person, R2-D2-X: Surfer Van Mech by DVD Star Hopper by Rodney Bistline:
  17. Ohhh man, how I hope the sets I want end up in stores before Christmas!
  18. Broken image link. I really want to see what you were comparing this to! Interest piqued. Oh, was it the red Galaxy Squad guy?
  19. Wow, when you say it like that, it sure sounds like there are a ton of adult oriented sets released every year! Honestly I think a once-a-year Classic Space and Classic Castle themed Creator Expert set is an absolute sure seller. You've got nostalgic adults in their prime earning years, Star Wars fatigue (and general license fatigue I think), and no traditional medieval/fantasy sets available. Plus the 40th anniversary to kick things off if they launch them soon.
  20. Whoa...surprise Classic Space anniversary set in 2019? IT COULD HAPPEN!
  21. I love how Jet Patrol makes no sense. There's a thief stealing a gem from an airplane fuel tank because that makes sense. Better have the Sky Police buzz him, that'll show 'em!
  22. Also they made the chinstrap thicker in the 80s too. So making it a little thicker again now seems appropriate.
  23. I think those giant transparent pieces might be new in trans purple.
  24. Yeah the spaceship in 70821 is a bit simple but I can't really complain ever again. What I can do is add all of Benny's friends to my Spaceship Spaceship Spaceship! I expect LEGO will be tempted to do at least one other set with the new old helmet (I love saying that!). Maybe in wave 2 or maybe something else.
