It looks great, although I do agree that it's odd that they don't seem to be including minifigures - I can't think of an example of a license UCS vehicle, minifigure-scale or not, that doesn't include figures (except for ones released under other themes, like the Creator Bond set or the Technic F&F Charger). Especially since the figures from the original Ideas set honestly would hold up really well, I don't even know if they'd have to change any printing. I probably won't be buying it, but it does look really fantastic and I think this bodes well for future movie vehicles at a similar scale (Jurassic Park Ford Explorer/Jeep, DeLorean time machine, Mystery Machine, maybe even KITT or Herbie) since we've now gotten 3 large-scale movie cars just this year.

Didn't someone say that the "transport" isn't necessarily indicative of anything, since we've also seen a code name that was just "hero vehicle" or something? Like, I agree that an ITT makes sense at that price point, especially since they seem to be prioritizing accessible pricing on this wave, but I don't know if we're necessarily limited to just that. -

We did get a couple of official reveals in like November of last year, if I remember right, for some January sets (I believe Obi-Wan's Hut was one, the Landspeeder I think was the other?), so it's possible that we get it a bit earlier, especially if it's not something spoiler-y from the last couple of episodes. -
Another idea for CMFs I had was a Back to the Future series. Since there's really not that many major characters throughout the movies and most of it is just different outfits for the main characters, I feel like a CMF series might be the best way to get a lot of the figures, especially since there also aren't a ton of possibilities for a set. Highly, highly doubt this ever happens, but I figured I could still hope, at least! 1. Marty McFly (1985) - Orange vest outfit, includes a skateboard and cameracorder 2. Doc Brown (1985) - White radiation suit, accessories are the remote for the DeLorean and a helmet (reusing the hazmat suit helmet piece) 3. Jennifer Parker - accessory is the "YOU'RE FIRED" page on a 2x2 tile from BTTF 2/3 4. Biff Tannen (1955) - accessory is the Gray's Sports Alamanac 5. Buford 'Mad Dog' Tannen - accessory is a gun 6. Doc Brown (1885) - reuses the Butch Cavendish hair/hat piece from Lone Ranger, accessory is the rifle with telescope 7. Marty McFly/Clint Eastwood (1885) - Dressed in the pink/blue outfit, double-sided face to change from clean to dirty. Accessory is a hat 8. Marty McFly (2015) - Includes the rainbow hat and a hoverboard. 9. Doc Brown (2015) - Includes a double sided face with the goggles on one side and eyes on the other, accessory is the "Local youth jailed" newspaper on a 2x2 tile 10. Marvin Berry - accessory is a guitar, one hand somehow have some sort of cast over it if possible 11. Biff Tannen (2015) - accessory is his cane (new mold) 12. Clara Clayton - Not sure on her accessory, honestly. Maybe a book, or the photo that Doc gives to Marty at the end of BTTF 3? 13. Doc Brown (end of BTTF 3) - accessory is Einstein or the photo that he gives to Marty 14. Doc Brown (1955) - accessory is the mind-reading device as a new mold 15. George McFly (1955) - Prom outfit, accessory is "Tales from Space" book on a 2x2 tile 16. Lorraine Baines (1955) - Prom outfit, although I'm not sure on her accessory

About the Naboo Royal Starship thing, the 2007 Sith Infiltrator was a $30 set (I distinctly remember buying it, as I believe it was a Walmart exclusive so I had to make a special trip to get it), and if the trend of downsizing ships continues, I think that they could do the set justice for under $70. Like, that set isn't the greatest representation of a ship they've ever done, but the shape is there, it's got both a cockpit space with speeder storage and space inside of the hull for a control station, and so on. It's also very similar in shape to the Naboo ship. They could basically take that basic design, make it bigger, more structurally sound (one issue that era of Lego's SW ships had was that a lot of them had parts that either weren't secured all that well or relied on like one Technic pin to connect an entire wing), and obviously more accurate to the Royal Starship. Throw in a Naboo pilot, Obi-Wan, Padme in the blue outfit, and maybe R2-D2 and I think that's a really solid set. I'm also very surprised Boss Nass hasn't been a throw-in somewhere along the line. If they can include every bounty hunter in the Slave I for being tangentially related to it, they could very easily put Boss Nass into some sort of Naboo vehicle. Plus, I've always thought a reprinted Spongebob fish head would've been perfect, they even already have used the mold in a lime green.

About the Mando set, I do think given how the other sets for the wave are trending, getting 3-4 figures in a $30 set is very possible. In the past, if it was a vehicle, I'd guess 3 tops, but I think Mando plus at least two other heroes and some sort of adversary is possible. Curious to see more details on it. -
According to Wikipedia, for a while he would conveniently disappear whenever other people came around, so nobody thought he was real, but at some point he started interacting with other characters. Great review, looks to be a pretty good set. Realistically, while a $250-uber-realistic build would've been cool, I think they would've priced a lot of people out of the market, especially since a major draw here is the figures. The Count and Grover would've been nice, I think 5 new molds is already a lot, especially when Ideas stuff typically gets none. The build is nice enough and recognizable enough - kind of reminds me of the old 70s Fisher Price Sesame Street toys. The figures look fantastic, Big Bird especially. I'm not sure if I'll buy this, just because the Cantina already made a big dent in my pocket, but the price seems fair for what you get.

Something involving Kulil would make sense (S1 spoiler) But that still doesn't explain why it wasn't in the catalog. I guess it could just be coincidence, but it also seems like it wouldn't be as secretive as the other stuff if it was from Season 1. -
Very interesting that the Universal license seems to have kicked up quite a bit in the past year or two. I saw something that apparently Lego signed on to have Universal produce any future movies instead of WB, which leads me to wonder if we'll see even more Universal properties get made into sets/themes in the future. This sort of thing is brand new, we also had a Universal Monsters set with the Frankenstein's Monster Brickheadz, we've obviously had Jurassic Park for the past couple of years, Minions was a pretty new theme...I could definitely see Jaws, ET, more BTTF stuff (Time Train or Clock Tower anyone?) or some of the other classic Universal films selling really well as sets. I also wonder if this music theme will see future tie-ins to the mosaics, since we got that Beatles one. I could definitely see some bands/artists that Universal represents being iconic enough to where people would buy a mosaic of them/their logo. Definitely interested to see what direction this goes in, and if it's something closer to Studios (where it was sort of Steven Spielberg, but not explicitly stated that it was him) or if it's actual minifigures based on Elton John or Queen or whatever.
-
Just skimming the list of artists that Universal apparently has the rights to (based on Wikipedia), rough list of ones that could be big enough to have some sort of representation in this theme (assuming that they do indeed base it off of actual artists and don't go the Studios route where it's kinda/sorta Steven Spielberg but not really). I also assume that certain artists who either have explicit content in most of their songs or who have a controversial public image may not get put in, just because they tend to avoid that. Bee Gees, Beyonce, Billie Eilish, Blink-182, Bob Marley, Bon Jovi, Cher, Def Leppard, DJ Khaled, Depeche Mode, Dolly Parton, The Eagles, Elton John, Guns 'N Roses, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Lionel Richie, Mariah Carey, Metallica, Michael Jackson (apparently they only have the rights to some of his music so that might not be possible then), Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Queen, Ramones, Red Hot Chili Peppers (again, they only have some rights so I'm not sure), Rihanna, Taylor Swift, U2, Van Halen, The Who, and a handful of others that are certainly big enough, but may have too much controversy around then (Kanye West) or explicit content (Dr. Dre, Nikki Minaj, etc).

I know price per piece isn't the best metric at times (larger molds or new molds tend to make it look worse than it actually is) but man, this has to be one of the best Price/Piece ratios for a non-mosaic set in a very long time - AND we still get new molds. Seems like they wanted this set to still be accessible enough to where it's not only adult collectors that can afford it. I don't think it'll be bought by many kids, but I could see parents getting it and building it with their kid or getting it and saving it for when they're older.

It's crazy how things have changed. I remember the 3rd X-Wing they ever put out (the 2005 version that was on shelves for like 5 years) had something like 6-7 figures and was the same price as this one. Luke, R2, Chewbacca, Han, Leia, and I believe another Rebel pilot and maybe another astromech droid? I think minifigures are more accurate today but man, I miss the era of 3-4 figures being common even in a $20 set. -

It looks like brown jacket Han to me, but the quality isn't great. The Tauntaun looks decent, not as good as the Bantha but maybe that's because we've had a molded Tauntaun before, so subconsciously I'm going to compare it with that one. The AT-AT looks the same as the last microfighter we got of it, which isn't horrible since it was pretty good looking. Not super interested in the Falcon because I have the previous one, but it looks good. The Resistance X-Wing looks as expected. For $50, the X-Wing looks pretty good. The front and the entire nose has more studs than the model usually looks, definitely fewer wing details, but it captures the source material well. I might be getting one. The TIE we've already more or less seen, but it looks good too. The Shuttle to me might be my favorite. I'd love to see more pictures of the interior and minifigures, but I think that it looks really nice. All in all, the ships remind me a lot of the 2005-2008 era OT sets, when we were first starting to get remakes of some of the original versions of the sets we got - much more detailed than the original ones, but the pricing was pretty good and they still captured the ships well. On one hand, I think I personally really liked this era of sets, so I'm glad to see a return to that style, and when you compare SW to HP or Super Heroes, the pricing is kind of terrible, so this is going to be really good for kids to be able to afford the classic ships. But, I also do understand that for those that have these ships already, this wave is pretty weak other than potentially the TBD Mando set. -

First off, I agree. It seems like stuff is generally designed or in the design phase for like a year, and then they've gotta get it packaged and distributed. Secondly, even if these sets are still regional, they're more widely available than it being an SDCC exclusive, and secondary market prices are more akin to exclusive gifts with purchase, as opposed to SDCC exclusives (the Bespin set you can get for like $80, previous convention exclusives are like $100-200 for stuff that's actually smaller and don't have figures that are as desirable. The Ghost set with Chopper, basically a slightly larger microfighter, is like $120 on BL). So, yes, it's unfortunate that only part of the world can get these sets, but would people be this upset if it was a convention exclusive, then almost nobody at all could get it, unless you want to pay absurdly high secondary market prices? No, it's not perfect, but it's still better than if only people who can afford to shell out hundreds of dollars to travel and go to a convention and wait in line for several hours are able to acquire it. Third, there's no reason to get upset at people on this forum because Lego made it a regional exclusive - none of us dictate where stuff gets released, so arguing with other fans about it isn't going to help the situation. This isn't a 100% fair comparison, but NA sometimes gets one exclusive per year , this year being an outlier, but Europe tends to gets the summer sets released quite a bit early and gets the magazines with figures/polybags. I'm not saying that it's 100% fair or that one of these is better than the other, I'm just pointing out that both regions get things that the others don't. -
"Check out that 4x4! That is hot..." So after binge-watching BTTF I, II and III the last few days, I was inspired by Marty's truck, most prominently featured at the end of BTTF I and III, and wanted to try my hand at building one. Let's be honest, any truck-loving person is/was pretty infatuated with the 80s-goodness that this truck oozes. From the "TOYOTA" written on the tailgate to the roll-bar and KC Lights, to the giant front and rear bumpers, this is one of the coolest movie trucks ever, and it's a pity we never got one to go alongside the DeLorean set from 2013. Without further ado, here's my first attempt at recreating it. https://imgur.com/a/gAtMEn8 The minifigures are the best I could do just on stud.io, Jennifer actually looks alright with that torso but Marty isn't great. I'm mostly happy with how the build turned out, particularly the roll bar and lights, but there are a few things that I still would like to tweak/improve upon. The main thing is the height of the truck. I'm a bit limited because I need it to be 6-wide, which means that's pretty much the only windshield that I can use (8 studs is too wide and at 4 studs, I can't put two figures in it), and that sort of determines a lot of the height of the vehicle. I had initially tried for larger off-road tires, but they kept rubbing the arches, which would mean I'd have to either remove them (which looked bad) or make the truck taller (which made it look less accurate). Since there isn't really an "in-between" off-road tire that LEGO makes, this was the best I came up with, I actually think it still looks alright. https://imgur.com/a/ma2fPKb Rear view. If I knew how to do custom stickers, I'd definitely put a "TOYOTA" one on the tailgate, as well as a California license plate. This is the angle that I think looks the best, I would like to add exhaust pipes at some point as well, and maybe a functional tailgate. https://imgur.com/a/HnibE4j One thing I would like to change is the hoop coming up in the front. The actual truck has something similar on the front bumper, but it's too prominent, I just haven't come up with an alternative solution yet. Anyway, thanks for looking! I'd welcome any feedback! I'd like to order the parts to build this at some point, just because nothing is too uncommon, so I'll update this post if I do. EDIT: I apologize, directly uploading images wasn't working for me, so I tried embedding imgur links, which didn't seem to work. If anyone knows how to get it working (I tried before and after the link, without the spaces there, I'd really appreciate the help).

So, apologies to any moderators/admins if this is the wrong place for this thread, I didn't think it exactly belonged in with the selling forums since, well, I'm not selling anything. Earlier today I was thinking about some sets throughout the years that were great finds that I had either just barely missed out on, or never bought for whatever reason (and now are way too expensive for my budget!). The first came to mind back in 2007, I remember the year distinctly because of what was available. At the time, it was before Lego stores were as widespread as they are now, it seems like you had to be in a very large city to find one, at least here in the US. Consequently, when I was growing up, if we ever took a trip to a city that had one, it was a big deal for me, we'd usually go at least twice on our trip, do the build-a-minifig (this was back when their minifigure part stash was pretty incredible, they had a lot of old Star Wars/NBA pieces, all sorts of stuff), PAB (again, with the craziest stuff...train tracks, I remember distinctly finding this thing in a yellow and chrome color, no idea what set that was from, but I digress), and of course, I would've been saving money for a long while before a trip to the store, knowing that if I wanted any sets, I was going to have to pay for it. So, I saved up $50 and had my mind set on one of two Star Wars sets - either the 2006 Slave I, or 2006 Jabba's Sail Barge. I wasn't 100% sure which one I would get yet, but I knew it would be one of the two. Well, come to find out, unbeknownst to me, at this point, the sets had already retired and there were none to be found anywhere in the store. I remember being quite disappointed in this, and ended up choosing between the Rogue Shadow and Jedi Starfighter with Hyperdrive Booster Ring. I recall that I wasn't all that particularly interested in either one, but I felt like I "had" to buy a $50 Star Wars set, since that's what I came for. I ended up with the Starfighter, and here 13 years later, I still have it and am happy I bought it, but I still have been on the lookout for both of those sets since. The other one (this one might make some people groan) was roughly 7 years ago. I was looking on eBay and happened upon a guy who must've been selling off an inventory of old sets, I think I remember the descriptions being that they belonged to someone else and he came into possession of them, but I can't recall for sure. Anyway, this guy had the motherlode of sealed, perfect box, perfect condition Model Team stuff. He didn't have the big semi trucks, but I remember he had the Rally Van, Magic Flash, and Bigfoot 4x4 (the latter two of which are some of favorite sets that I don't own of all time). For whatever reason I never bid, but I remember that the Bigfoot truck ended up selling for like $110 or something, the Magic Flash like $80-90 or something crazy. From a pure financial standpoint, that one hurts, because even at the time they were worth probably 3x that easily, and looking at them now, you can't get a sealed version of either for under $400-500, but had I bought them, no chance I would've resold them, they'd probably be on display in my house somewhere right now. Someday! Anyway, does anyone else have similar stories? (again sorry if this is the wrong place for this topic, just thought it was an interesting question).

Sets that makes your highly emotional?

I'd have to go with the 2005 City Construction Site. 7243. It was the first "big" set I ever owned (I know, I'm on the younger side of EB!) and I remember distinctly having my mother help me order it online and waiting anxiously for the next few days/week as it shipped. I still have it, with box and instructions, and don't think I could really part with it. -
LEGO Star Wars 2021 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Kit Figsto replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I think it sort of depends on whether or not a minifigure scale model is truly feasible without a UCS price point. Obviously it's tough to make a truly "in scale" model because minifigure proportions aren't really easily equated to human scale, just due to the way that they're designed. In the case of the Slave I, they can't really do it at minifigure scale unless it's a $250 UCS set, and it's also a massive ship, so I think, as odd as it sounds, it almost is easier to look past it being too small in the other models we get of it - as long as they appear much larger than a minifigure. Conversely, with an X-Wing, they can do that in scale with minifigures, and pretty much all of the models that we've ever gotten of it (not counting microfighters and such) have been fairly close to what I would call "minifigure scale" in that, if the minifigure and model were sized up to about human size, it would be fairly close to how large an X-Wing actually looks in the movie. With a smaller ship, I think it's a bit more apparent when the sizing is off. You have a general idea of how much taller than a figure it should be, how a figure should look climbing into it, etc. I totally agree, with TIEs, the sizing was getting absurd, but stuff like Vader's TIE in the Death Star was just not big enough at all. Yes, it fit a figure, but proportionally to a figure, it wasn't big enough in terms of accuracy. It's a cool model, and same with Boba's Slave I, but like I was saying, I think it's almost easier to overlook a drastically undersized ship when the actual source material is bigger. I hope I explained that moderately well, I know it sounds like a dumb argument but that's really what I feel about it. -
Lego should do Star Wars collectible mini figures
Kit Figsto replied to Jimalaya's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Totally agree, and I think it makes sense to somehow work in variants of popular characters to get kids/casual fans interested (if it was all super obscure characters, it would probably sell poorly, at least compared to how it could be selling). Maybe it's something as simple as Luke with the poncho, or give something that collectors would want too, like a re-release of Speeder Bike Chase Luke that we've only ever had one release of like 20 years ago, if I remember correctly. Putting the really desirable secondary/minor characters into the sets, then give us the much more minor characters like Boss Nass, Chancellor Valorum, BoShek, Willrow Hood, etc in the CMF series, because nobody is buying a set just to get one of them, whereas someone like Cody is a potential draw. Honestly, if the clone in the Grievous' starfighter set was Cody, I was strongly considering shelling out $80, or at least waiting for it to get discounted, but still would likely be around $60-65, mostly because of that one figure. Just removed your text for space purposes. I think the trio of trios from each trilogy is a good idea and would likely happen, unless they chose to only focus on one trilogy/era at a time. If not Celebration Luke/Han/Leia, re-releases of the Endor ones would be very appealing, at least in my opinion. We've only had like one Endor Luke, and I think Han with the green jacket only came in the UCS Imperial Shuttle, which was a decade ago. I think some representation from Rogue One is also possible to go with Dryden Vos, maybe either Saw Gerrera, Galen Erso, or a variant of Cassian/Jyn. I would probably remove Kylo/Ben and Piett in favor of a Rogue One character and I'd echo the sentiment for a Stormtrooper, maybe a Sandtrooper or Biker Scout if they wanted to make it amassable but still "unique" enough to entice people to buy it. I might also suggest including a droid, maybe a Death Star Droid or some sort of Protocol Droid, just because those are such an important part of the universe. They probably couldn't do an astromech, but something like a Death Start Droid + Mouse Droid could be good.- 49 replies

Lego should do Star Wars collectible mini figures
Kit Figsto replied to Jimalaya's topic in LEGO Star Wars
It's true that people might not buy a big set if the figure was available in a CMF series, but that doesn't stop them from including exclusive figures only in the large sets. Realistically, if you look at this wave of sets currently out (even going as far back as the January 2020 wave) - are there any truly expensive sets that contain a minifigure that someone is going to say "Yes, I'm buying this set only for that figure"? The 501st Clones, 332nd Clone, Ahsoka, Mandalorians from the BP are all in affordable sets, the only ones in large sets that I can think of are The Child and maybe Greef Karga, and then perhaps some of the new cantina figures. However, if they did a minifigure series, they can still put exclusive figs in high dollar sets to force people to buy them, and then use the minifigure series as a way to give us either variations on existing figures/new costumes (battle outfit Padme, for example), or figures that don't really fit well into sets (Shmi Skywalker, Saw Gerrera, extra cantina patrons, etc). Or, say, they do give us something highly desirable, like a Captain Rex figure, well, now you're going to have more reason to buy the $30 501st set because you want to add to your clones. Too, if they charge $5 a figure, which I could very well see them doing, they're still in the price range where people will see them and grab one or two blind bags for their kids to open or whatever. And I know from personal experience, this could very attractive to non-SW collectors too - that same thing happened to me with Disney and the DC ones. While I may be willing to spend money on a Star Wars set just to get one of the minifigures, a non-SW collector isn't. In the same way, I wanted the Mickey and Minnie figures from the Steamboat Willie set, but I wasn't going to pay the $80 or whatever it was just for the set. Instead, I can spend like $8 and get both of them, which is $8 they weren't going to get from me otherwise. To hardcore Lego Star Wars collectors, it might make more sense for them to continue putting figures in high dollar sets, but thinking about casual fans or kids who aren't going to buy a $90 set just to get an exclusive figure of (insert character here), I think this would sell absurdly well.- 49 replies

Come to think of it, TRU broke a lot of rules when it came to selling Lego. I remember they'd sell pretty much all of their polybags for like $5, sometimes during the promotion and sometimes they'd wait until the promotion was over and sell the leftovers, and they were also notorious for ignoring street dates. It was always great in December, because you could get the next year's sets early for Christmas (albeit they often had a $2-8 markup depending on the size of the set). Man...I miss TRU sometimes.- 49 replies

They look solid! The TIE looks pretty nice, the wing details look good and the cockpit looks nice as well. The Imperial Shuttle looks decent, it almost looks like the cockpit might just be bricks (doesn't fit a figure?) but it's really hard to tell. I can't tell if that's a dark-transparent windscreen or black bricks. -
A little bit different - swung by a local store that sells older sets, some used and some new. Had some newer SW stuff and then some very early stuff, most of it priced fairly but still out of my budget for the size of the sets with the exception of the Chewbacca and Scout Troopers minifigure pack. $20! Sealed! I actually don't think I have any Scout Troopers at all in my collection, so I'm super excited about it.

Kit Figsto replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Interesting breakdown, thanks! I think the figures are sort of a big "if" as far as whether or not they're included in those numbers. If it's not minifigure scale, I'd imagine we get like two clone pilots and maybe a Jedi or two. (Regardless of what the set is in terms of scale, I'm almost positive there's zero chance it's TCW based, which means it's almost positively AOTC based, seeing as it had an incredibly minor role in ROTS. So a lot of people are going to be mad when Rex/Wolffe/every named clone ever aren't included, even though that wasn't going to happen in the first place). If it is minifigure scale, that lineup seems the most likely, although maybe without Dooku and get rid of two of the clones, since even the "playscale" UCS stuff tends to not go over the top on figures. Like, the UCS Slave I contained fewer figures than the system-scale one, despite being over twice the price - they just aren't released as minifigure-based sets, while the MBS ones seem to go quite a bit deeper into lots of exclusive/new figures. The other thing I saw that points to it not being minifigure scale is there was a brickset interview a while back where the designers talked about the biggest challenge so far being to stabilize the wings, which they alluded to being pretty large. This may or may not mean anything, because a minifigure scale one could get some beefier wings, making them heavier without being necessarily larger, but it also makes me think it's going to be larger scale, as they've successfully put fairly accurate wings on three previous iterations of the ship. For what it's worth - I'd love a minifig scale gunship, but I would prefer they put out a system-scale one instead, especially since they've proven they can do it at half the price of what this one is rumored to be.
