  1. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we get three D2C sets two years ago, with the Star Destroyer, Tantive, and whatever the May UCS was that year? I've forgotten exactly but I thought that we've had three D2C sets in a year previously. If brickfantatics is right and the $800 is the DS, that makes the most sense to me, I don't think there's much else that they could sell at $800. I'm more inclined to believe those on this board that are suggesting the Gunship isn't $350 than the blogs saying it is, which is strange since that $350 price point, for the past 3-4 years, has been only used for the MBS-type sets, which are normally on a two year cycle. I know that the Cantina has done really well (or, at least the fact that it's been sold out on Shop at Home for like 3 months makes me inclined to believe as such), but that would be way too early to rush another MBS set into production, and the last two sets seemed to get mixed reviews (I have no idea on sales but Hoth we know was...controversial, and Cloud City only had a year shelf life, and I feel like it would've stuck around longer if it was flying off the shelves).
  2. How big would an $800 AT-AT be is the thing? I'm not challenging your assertion, I'm actually legitimately asking, because I don't have any AT-ATs, so I don't know how hollow/solid they are on the inside and how many pieces are devoted to the body versus the legs. I for sure agree that an AT-AT definitely checks the "iconic" box, but is that a feasible model? The current, $160 model apparently is 15 inches long and 14 inches tall. Scaling that up, say, 3x (which I think would be bigger than minifig scale) gives a model that's almost 4 feet long and about 3.5 feet tall. I would assume that they can't make the interior too full/would have to leave it mostly hollow, because a 3 foot box would probably be way too heavy to stand on four legs without buckling very easily (you could do it by cheating and using metal poles inside of the legs, like I know they've done with some of their large sculptures, but obviously that doesn't work with a set). So I guess my question is, if you were to start building an AT-AT at a UCS price point, is it possible that at some point, $800 is almost too big, to where you couldn't realistically make a model that large and have it still be functional/displayable without structural issues?
  3. I'm very intrigued. One big factor is that from the standpoint of it selling well, what is both iconic enough to actually be a sellable product at $800 and also requires a price point that high? The Falcon and Star Destroyer which we've gotten, I guess a remake of the DS II set could probably cost $800 if they made it larger (but even then, would it really require that many more parts than the $500 playset version to justify a $300 price increase?), someone else mentioned Home One but I don't know if that's on the same level as the Falcon/Star Destroyer, and pretty much any other ship is out just because of size. I suppose this confirms that the Gunship is either going to be the May UCS set or won't come until next year, since I don't see any possible way to make an $800 Gunship (and also that would probably sell terribly).
  4. The only thing I'm not sure on with the AT-AT, like you said is stability. I think that would be one that would fall into the category of "UCS is larger than minifig scale" since a system scale model is fairly close, to size it up and get a completely accurate scale, I think it could be done for $200-250, and if that were to be an "unusually expensive" set ($500+) that thing would be massive and the body would be super heavy to where I don't know if you could get legs to support it easily. I could see a remake of the 2005 DS because it seems to be brought up a lot as a requested set, it would probably be at least $500 (although at this point I don't even know if that is classified as "unusually expensive" considering we've had the DS remake at $500, Star Destroyer at $700 and Millennium Falcon at $800), and they could definitely do some sort of lift-off roof section at the very top of the sphere with Palpatine's throne room or something (sort of like how the Falcon has a couple of interior sections but the rest of the roof isn't removable). But, like I said, I don't know what type of thing classifies as "unusually expensive" these days. I'm thinking it probably has to be in the Falcon/Star Destroyer price territory. While I was brainstorming earlier for what's due for a UCS set, it was kind of crazy, the UCS AT-ST from 2006 was $80, and Vader's TIE Advanced from the next year was $100. I mean, we were getting to a point where a normal, system scale AT-ST was approaching $50+ and a TIE was close to $70, and fifteen years ago you could basically bought the UCS version for that price. Now I think I'd be surprised if there's ever a UCS/MBS set that has a MSRP of less than $200 again.
  5. Yeah, I kind of agree. My first set with them was the Cantina, and it looks good with just the two of them, but next to either the original Stormtroopers (still my favorite version, I know it wasn't as accurate but I feel like was accurate enough without the proportions being weird) or even the ones from like three years ago, it'd just look off. This makes me wonder what direction they'll go in with the UCS sets this year. I'm assuming that one of the two is the Gunship, but the other one truly could be anything. The past few years, it was sort of easy to figure out just based on process of elimination and previous patterns of what we've gotten, but this year I have no idea what they're planning. I'm thinking now that the Shuttle rumor was someone jumping the gun on the system scale Shuttle and getting confused there, thinking it was a UCS version instead of what we're getting. We've had all of the alphabet star fighters made recently, UCS Star Destroyer/Falcon can both be found currently on shelves, TIE, Snowspeeder and Slave I are too recent for remakes, I don't think they'd remake the Death Star again if they chose to retire it, and I doubt they go for any prequel sets without seeing how the Gunship does first. From the OT that leaves either an AT-ST remake, TIE variation remake, Imperial Shuttle remake, or for new vehicles, Jabba's Sail Barge (although that might be more conducive to an MBS set, which would probably be next year) or Luke's Landspeeder. I would suggest an AT-AT but we currently have one on shelves and I think them putting out a $300 one at the same time would probably negatively impact sales of the regular one.
  6. I think last year they were the same size. Summer was the AAT, Anakin's fighter, 501st, Knights of Ren ship, Greivous' fighter, AT-AT, Final Duel, IT-S, Mando Brickheadz and Child Statue (I assume the mosaics don't count because I don't know if they count as Star Wars or Expert). Winter was 3 Microfighters (Y-Wing, Kylo Ren's ship, and Batha/Skyhopper), the Sith and Mando BPs, Ben's Hut, the Mustafar Duel, 4+ Snowspeeder, Luke's Landspeeder, Sith TIE, and Poe's X-Wing. 8 system scale sets in each wave, two non-system sets in the summer and three in the winter, although that doesn't count the Razor Crest. Anyway, point being, if the summer wave is substantially larger like that rumor suggests, I'd guess it's something similar in size to what we're used to or possibly a bit larger.
  7. Excellent work! What torso did you use for Mando? It looks like Jango Fett, but his seems to be lighter gray in the middle and darker on the sides, whereas this is the opposite, so is this a custom? Either way, your custom figs (Beskar Mando and Gideon especially) look great!
  8. I was racking my brain and now that I'm thinking of it...I don't really know how many remakes I own? I think I own three versions of the Cantina, and that might actually be it. I think a lot of it comes down to personal preference. Anything pre-2007 or so tends to definitely not be the best version available of a set (and I think just about everything from that era except for a few small Phantom Menace sets and some Attack of the Clone stuff has been remade), so if you're looking for the best, most accurate model, definitely go towards the newer end of things. I love sets from that era, but it's more from a nostalgia perspective. Like, I've got the original Slave I and absolutely love that thing, but it doesn't come close to any modern incarnation of that ship. I would also say with some ships, certain variations are a bit more rare. For example, the OT Falcon, Luke's X-Wing, Anakin's yellow starfighter, those kinds of sets are pretty regularly cycled releases, whereas the Solo Falcon, a variation on the X-Wing color or it being Obi-Wan's starfighter would be a bit less likely to see a re-release in the near future. I would categorize Luke's X-Wing, Anakin's starfighter, Boba Fett's Slave I, an OT Star Destroyer, OT TIE Fighter, OT Falcon, Luke's Landspeeder, and OT Snowspeeder as very "safe" re-releases, in that you can very easily just wait a year or two and pretty much all of those will be released in some capacity. In terms of the designs, though, we're starting to get to a point where they've pretty much perfected the models. Since they're based on real things, they can only be so accurate, and with most of the ships that see continuous releases, they really aren't getting that much better looking. So it's somewhat unlikely that many items are going to see a really sharp increase in their design quality, since they're already pretty close to being ideal, at least given limitations of the medium and all that.
  9. Major Mandalorian Spoilers, you've been warned:
  10. Honestly, I don't think they should've gone for a licensed Brickheadz at all for the 150th. If they wanted to celebrate the milestone, they should've done like a Classic Spaceman or Pirate or Knight, or I saw some people suggesting Mr. Gold or Clutch Powers (if you really want to go old school, I thought about Zach the Lego Maniac or Pepper Roni!) but I digress.
  11. Trying to be as unbiased as possible, he's probably the biggest YouTuber that focuses almost solely on Lego Star Wars (he's definitely not the biggest Lego YouTuber, but unlike Jang or even the old Brick Show, if you were familiar with them, they review just about anything, his stuff is like 95% Star Wars). He's on the younger side of things but his audience in large part seems to mostly be 15 or younger. He focuses mostly on the prequels and has now been largely responsible for, some might use the term "brigading" to get three different sets made: the 501st set (if you look at the comments of any Lego social media post, they were spammed with people saying "make a 501st battle pack"), the UCS Gunship, and now this. I have no idea if he truly wants a Jar Jar brickhead, but my guess is that it was more of a "hey wouldn't it be funny if they made this" and then the poll got hijacked.
  12. Agree, especially since I'm going to guess that a decent chunk of people who vote on these types of polls aren't even going to buy the set. I'm not saying you shouldn't vote if you're not going to buy a set, but typically when these things get brigaded, there's a lot of people that are just voting because someone told them to. I would've rather seen Jaws for sure, because for one, a shark brickhead would be cool, and for two, we've never had that license yet. My guess is that it might be harder to get the gunmetal gray to appear shinier. Like, the gunmetal one already has a sort of glossy quality to it, so I'm not sure if they could really leave it that color and make it look shiny. I'm looking at parts that they've made in that metallic gray color, it looks like many of them are Bionicle parts, so I'm also not sure if it could be something to do with the strength of the color or ability to mold it in minifigure parts.
  13. Interesting, the Kohls near me actually have a really big Lego selection. Like, a whole wall in their toy department is dedicated to it, and then in the holidays they'll sometimes get small displays in the middle of the store that have like Star Wars or Super Heroes stuff.
  14. So I was out doing a bit of Christmas shopping (haven't really been doing much in-person shopping at all over the past 8-9 months) and hit a Target near me. The Lego aisle was very, very picked over, the Star Wars section had a lot of the sets that have been around for a while (Obi-Wan's hut, duel on Mustafar, Death Star cannon, TRoS Y-Wing, etc), and, despite only a couple of summer sets (other than Grievous' starfighter, which they had a ton), surprisingly they had two 501st sets. I finally caved and bought one. Even though I don't love the builds, the figures look nice and, honestly, I think part of it is just future FOMO since I know the prices are going to be absurd once it retires, and if I ever want it, I likely won't be able to buy it. From what I've seen so far, in addition to the 501st and AAT sets, both the AT-AT and Anakin's fighter are selling really well, the latter of which is a bit of a surprise to me, since it's not anything insanely new.
  15. Indy 5 coming in 2022 confirmed by Disney today! Hope we see some sets out of it, whether only from the new movie or some stuff from the older ones. Off the top of my head, there's about ten scenes from the first 4 movies that we never got: Raiders - bar shootout, map room, maybe something with the boat/submarine Temple - plane escape, the ending fight on the bridge would work well Last Crusade - train scene from the opening, zeppelin, tank chase (probably the most wanted but also least likely of any of these), Grail temple Crystal Skull - opening scene (car chase with crates or something), car chase with the KGB agents If we got maybe just one of these, plus a few remakes from the original wave (I think the jungle temple from Raiders, truck chase from Raiders, motorcycle chase from Last Crusade, and maybe a remake of the Temple of Doom would be pretty popular) and of course, some stuff from the new movie would be a fantastic wave. Hopefully we can finally get a Sallah figure too! He's a fairly easy custom using a Prince of Persia head and generic tan suit torso, but an official one would be great.
  16. That might be the most exciting news of all for me, I hope we get some sets out of it. I know it's been rumored to be "in production" for like, a decade, but to get actual confirmation that it's coming, well, I'm stoked. Regarding the new stuff, I would assume if there's anything from these shows, at the earliest it'd either be if there's some sort of Force Friday for 2021 (which is plausible if any of these shows gets pushed up to fall of 2021) or more likely winter of 2022? I'm not 100% clear on the dates for each show other than Kenobi and Andor both being 2022 and Bad Batch supposedly being 2021? So maybe next fall for Mando S3 + Bad Batch + if by chance one of the other live action shows get accelerated and comes out early, they might do a Force Friday-esque thing that could include some sets. If not, something Bad Batch related in the summer wave would make sense regardless, since they've already been introduced as characters. Even if the show flops, the set would probably be fine since the figures have been requested since they were introduced.
  17. I think last year we got pictures around late March without any leaks before then other than knowing for sure we were getting a Stormtrooper and Boba Fett. If I remember right, the TIE one was rumored to be a system scale set and didn't even get confirmed as a helmet until we saw the pictures of it.
  18. Looking at the shelf life of the 2018/19 ones, almost all of them with the exception of the Jedi and Clones one lasted just about a year (that one for some reason went April 2018-August 2019, when the other one that was April 2018 only lasted until December 2018, maybe it was a lack of sales?). I'd say the best thing is the plan that they retire and if they don't, then great. It would make sense for them to keep them, at least until summer, if this wave is smaller, but who knows? On a similar note, does anyone know if the UCS Falcon is retiring at the end of this year? I know last year there were rumors it would be done, but it still seems too new to retire, I figured it'd be more of a "flagship" set like the UCS Death Star that hangs around for 5+ years.
  19. Also I think that the Microfighter was rumored to be cancelled as early as like October or whenever that initial set list came out. And given how Microfighters usually trend, considering the other two are both OT based, I feel like it would've been probably OT as well, since doing two OT and a Mando one would've been kind of odd.
  20. Was able to find the post, not going to quote it because I don't want to give them a notification on an old post, just search for "Cobb" in this topic and it was sometime around the discussion about why we didn't get his figure with the Tatooine set, early-mid November I believe.
  21. I want to say that the list trickled out slowly last year, I think we had info on some stuff around January/February but it seemed like a lot of heavy speculation or very loose info. Like, I remember that the 501st set was originally just billed as a BARC speeder with a few people suggesting that maybe it was some kind of a 501st battle pack. I do remember that Grievous' fighter leaked unusually early in February, and then we got official reveals of the Razor Crest in February and the 501st set in April, respectively, AT-AT in May, and then pics of everything else seemed to be early June? Based on comments from reliable users in here, it seems like they definitely have some indication as to what we're getting (I believe jdubbs said something to the extent of more Mando stuff is for sure coming) so I guess it can't be too much longer before stuff starts to trickle out, at least. Personally, I don't mind the slow reveals, since it at least builds up some suspense, whereas getting everything all at once means that there's no surprises unless you get a random surprise exclusive (like the IT-S or Razor Crest).
  22. Can't find a pic, but I'm wondering if it's going to be a $3.99 impulse set or a GWP in January, since they sometimes will do those at the start of a new wave? I suppose they usually seem to be minifigures instead of ships, but it would tie in well with the Shuttle release.
  23. Yeah, I could understand why they weren't super gung-ho with Season 1. They apparently got burned when they went all-in on Rebels, so it makes sense that they were apprehensive about going super heavy in on a new show (the two initial sets we got were very, very safe. A Mandalorian BP would've sold well regardless of the show's success, and an AT-ST is recognizable enough as a vehicle to where people would probably buy it even if the show sucked). I can also understand why nothing was ready for the summer wave, they apparently had to rush production on the Razor Crest (since nobody knew that was coming, I distinctly remember even leakers saying "We're not getting any Mandalorian stuff" and then that came way out of left field), and if they're going to rush a set into production, devoting most of the resources to a popular, large vehicle make sense. For next year, though, I really don't get it. I guess I'll reserve judgement until the summer wave is revealed, because it could be really Mando-heavy, but if there's not at least a couple of sets containing figures of, well, basically every character that they brought in for this season, I'll be totally boggled. Rebels sets supposedly didn't sell well at all, which many speculate was due to the timing of the release. If I remember right, they put out most stuff before the show even premiered, and the show didn't really get as popular until the 2nd or 3rd season. By that point, most of the major sets were off of the shelves (original Phantom, the Ghost, and so on). There was also the problem that the first wave of sets didn't have a ton of super relevant sets (like the Wookie gunship for some reason getting both a set and microfighter even though it was in one episode).
