LEGO Star Wars 2024 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Classic_Spaceman replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Ezra (who we know is in that set) did appear in the anniversary video, so maybe? If it is releasing in June in some parts of the world, then early May is when we would get an official reveal. -
Town/City usually is based on modern-day designs, but these Space sets are clearly more futuristic than what we normally get (even compared to City space offerings from past years). Most are either current or obsolete (space shuttle) tech, and even the near-future 2022 sets were based on actual NASA concepts. Then where are our interstellar spaceships, crystal-botanic batteries, and cute little aliens?? I am not going to deny that the designs are decidedly more NASApunk than classic neon-tron, but that is more a reflection of popular conceptions regarding the future of space exploration than it is an attempt to replicate existing real-world tech.

I just realised that Mando Moff has a new helmet mould (including a fifth fin/spike located on the front), instead of just reusing the Gar Saxon helmet! Unless Renown’s hint is about Tarkin and this set, in which case all bets are off as to who could appear! -
No - Why? Are you actually saying that because the 2024 City Space sets have the word “City” on the boxes, they are present-day designs? If so, I want to live in that world!!
-
Does it, though? The set and Minifig designs are clearly futuristic, and the planet does not resemble any in our solar system (even with creative liberties taken).

Ozzel, Piett, and Needa (and maybe Jerjerrod) would fit, but not if Tarkin is in the set. -
I consider it to be as official as the Classic Space division colours (Red pilots, White explorers, Yellow scientists, Blue security, Black spies), as those designations only came from interviews long after the sets retired! As for boxes, I was not really comparing the two, but unofficial-official lore does have more bearing on the designs than the theme on the box does.

LEGO Star Wars 2024 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

Ah, good! I have been waiting for a new ISD! OK; I am pleasantly surprised, as LEGO often makes variants of vehicles before their normal versions (Rex’s AT-TE, Coruscant Guard LAAT/i). I do want a Chimera (with Eye of Sion) at some point, but I would prefer a standard ISD first! Deploy the garrison! Yep. I just checked the other main Imperial officers from ESB/RotJ, and none of their actors were in an adaptation of 1984. In this case, since we are getting an ISD instead of the Death Star, Renown hinting at Tarkin is more understandable (since he is not as obvious an inclusion as he would be in a Death Star playset). -
^^^Things I did not know I needed until just now! An alien (maybe in a spacesuit) with a Santa hat on is just equal parts ridiculous and adorable!

A Star Destroyer instead of a Death Star? Interesting. . . 🤔 I wonder if it will end up being the kintsugi Chimera, since we are already getting a spoiler Ahsoka set this year (no idea how this would relate to @Renown’s clue, though). -

The Microfighter itself is just a pile of parts as expected, but we all know the real reason that this will be a bestseller! The Mando bunker looks pretty good - A bit sparse, but faithful to the source material! Also, the First Order Jet Trooper jetpack is a good choice for the sleeker Imperial Mando jetpacks. The Mando battle pack looks excellent! The new dual-moulded Imperial Mando helmets are great, and it appears that the loyalist Mandos are not the Fleet Commander and Koska Reeves, as was rumoured! The loyalists have two different helmets and torsos, but I cannot quite see the leg printing (so it might be the same across both); regardless, I look forward to mixing-and-matching to build up a nice Mando army! Surprisingly, the build is actually really good (for terrain in a battle pack); it fits well alongside the bunker, and it actually replicates the in-show location. Maybe? I will need to see better pics of them in order to decide. FO Jet Trooper pack, actually (and used in this year’s City Space sets). The guards that appear in The Mandalorian have less pronounced shoulder armour than the ones in TLJ, so adding the shoulder pad piece would probably make them look too bulky (in addition to interfering with the new helmet mould). Literally my first thought when I saw it was “That is a Gundam!”!! Source?? -

Both are the same (MK. 43), and have been made before in the original AoU wave. -

Just a heads-up: If you redeem any of the Insiders discount codes right at the $160 threshold, using the code will knock you below the threshold and remove the droid carrier GWP from your cart, so plan your purchases accordingly! -

I suppose, but they could have made it fan out like the Endgame one did (which also took place in a wide open battlefield). -

Is the bottle in the Advent Calendar a new colour? It looks like something between clear and trans-brown. 🤔 -

The Milano is spectacular! Given the name on the wing, the outfits, and the presence of Baby Groot, it seems to be based on the ending of GotG1. I would have preferred if the Iron Legion set had included maybe a second HYDRA soldier in place of Iron Man, but overall it is a good battle pack and add-on to the larger AoU diorama. I also actually like that the Iron Legion drones use the Invincible Iron Man helmet, since it makes their heads look smaller (as they are in the movie). The AoU diorama looks great as well, and it should look cool on display; I am wondering why it does not use the round bricks as a base as the other dioramas do, though it seems to be somewhat modular. Clint also has new printed legs! The Leviathan is somewhat blocky but well done, and the Hulk and Black Widow’s legs are no longer exclusive to the Tower! Loki seems to be using Thor’s plastic cape in green. Surtur feels off to me; while the spindly design does fit his emaciated appearance at the beginning of the movie, he kind of looks like a cross between a mech and Steppenwolf. -
Same; I was willing to buy that it was just armour until it appeared in her tournament suit. I suspect that it will be like Kai’s scar; never explained or addressed, but a permanent fixture of her design. I would obviously like to see a canon explanation, but I get that LEGO had safety concerns with regard to explicitly making it a prosthetic (not wanting kids to copy Sora’s moves with their prosthetic arms!).

New Blacktron II lore, courtesy of the CMF designers: “The challenge with a mutant is when this vessel gets infected unwillingly, that’s not a fun story,” Tore says. “That’s why he has this smirk to the side. He’s like, ‘Yeah, I’ve got this extra stuff, now I can wield two guns in one hand.’ And on the back of him, there’s this little sign at the top, [which] is actually a sign from Alien Conquest. One of the leaders had it as an emblem.” “The idea was these Blacktron II guys, we’ve never heard of them since they were out, so basically to up their game they bought some technology from these [Alien Conquest] guys and got their body enhancements. So that was kind of the story here. And they did it willingly, of course!” Blacktron II’s transhumanism connects back to the Series 3 cyborg Space Villain, and could be the reason for the Blacktron I—Blacktron II split - Blacktron II wanted to pursue genetic and cybernetic experimentation to augment themselves, while Blacktron I did not, leading to a schism within the faction. This backstory also confirms that the Alien Conquest aliens are still around by the time of Blacktron II, and suggests that they use genetic engineering tech on themselves, retroactively justifying the drastic differences in the classes’ appearances (and their job-related traits: Troopers are strong and dumb; Pilots move, talk, and fly fast). I am also wondering about Kranxx and Rench now - The latter is lime green and affiliated with Blacktron II, so could he be another mutant? If so, would that make Kranxx a mutant as well? Kranxx’s chest is suspiciously Human in its structure, compared to the other SP3 aliens. . . 🤔

We need interviews for the rest of the Series 26 lineup, and for all CMF series going forward! I really like seeing the thought process that goes into these designs. On another note, the explanation for the Blacktron mutant just makes me want unmutated and fully-mutated versions even more than I already did!!
