LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Classic_Spaceman replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Interestingly, I think that Castle and Pirates sets are easier to remake to modern standards than Space sets are - The Galaxy Explorer was perfect, but the Invader seemed torn between maintaining the size and feel of the original and updating the design to something more modern. What we got was by no means bad, just more like a mod of the original with some newer parts than a full revamp. Castle and Pirates, conversely, are actually based on real-world objects (castles, trees, ships, forts, etc), so updating them is significantly easier (LKC, Forest Hideout); the only issue that LEGO runs into is when they try to stick too heavily to the OG structure, which makes the final model look either outdated (Majisto’s Workshop) or somewhat muddled (Eldorado Fortress). -

Yes! The tail is tricky to use as a Minifig attachment in medieval settings, but it appears to double as a creature; the wings are awesome, and the shoulder armour jaw piece and helmet piece should be useful as well (I can see the shoulder-jaw working well for orcs, while the helmet could look good on a dragon-worshipping berserker type of character!)! -

VIDIYO was part of a “multi-year partnership” with UMG, and we all know where that went! -
These look good! I will need to see Kai’s storm rider in more detail (it seems like he has a mech that detached from the back?) to see what other configurations are possible; Lloyd’s forest dragon also looks really good, especially for a $20 set! I am assuming that the recoloured Riyu is a different baby dragon, not a non-canon “powered-up” version of baby Riyu. Three possibilities: 1.) The Ninja get multiple outfits this season, with one being the new armoured designs and the other being their S1 suits with S2 masks; 2.) this is a design unique to Lloyd, as he is the team’s new Sensei; 3.) this is not the final design for the Lloyd Minifig (see lifestyle photos of the X-Mansion that show Gambit with Han Solo’s hair vs. the final box art which gives him the BTS hair). I meant that the final designs seem to draw from earlier seasons’ mask concept art.

I am curious as to whether this will have any new Minifig pieces, or will just reuse the torso from the Cyber Drone (or not include a Minifig at all). Hopefully we get a new colour-scheme that is distinct from the vaguely NASA-style designs that we have been getting in Creator, as the City Space line is now more futuristic (and therefore appealing!).

LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

Classic Space or classic Space? For me, the charm of the Classic Space astronauts is in their simplicity (monochromatic, open helmets, standard grin), which would be lost with any attempt at modernising their design; astronauts from other factions (X-Trons, etc), however, should be updated to modern design standards, as their original designs were meant to be rough approximations of things that can now be rendered in more detail. I consider the CMF updates (SP1, M:Tron, Blacktron II, Ice Planet) to be the template for how to redesign the classic Space faction Minifigs without losing the vibe of the originals. -

Source? My guess would be one per team (ten), with maybe two additional LEGO-branded teams (OcTan, Vita-Rush, etc) to bring the number up to the CMF-standard twelve. -

The upcoming wave of Monkie Kid sets includes medieval Chinese helmets with plume/stud attachments on the top, in both flat silver and pearl gold!! They look excellent, and I am now wondering if we will get an ancient Chinese warrior CMF at some point in 2025! -
The Dragonians look nothing like what I had imagined, but are also insanely awesome! It looks like the dragon armour has three main sections - The shoulder armour and jaw, the tail with wing attachments (seen flying independently in the pic of the set), and the helmet with horns attached! I suspect that the shoulder armour has a connection point on the back to allow the dragon tail section to attach, though it might alternatively attach via a neck bracket. I also think that the clips are attached via studs, rather than moulded on, so there should be a lot of potential uses for the tail piece! The wings are excellent as well, and will hopefully show up in future monster/demon ‘figs (maybe in black for a bat costume CMF?)! The base design for the Dragonians (without armour) looks a little bland and like Nexo Knights’ lava monsters, but this is a new design style for Ninjago, and it makes the dragon elements stand out even more. On to the Ninja, I think they look pretty good (from what little I can see); they seem more armoured than usual (printing-wise), so maybe they need extra protection to counter whatever the Dragonians have going on (dragon forms/power-ups, symbiotic dragon creatures)? The masks are big but obviously intended to be armoured helmets, so I like them; also, I think they are based on earlier concept designs, which is always cool to see!

Marvel Superheroes 2024 - Rumors & Discussion
Classic_Spaceman replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
IMO it is too early to know summer/2HY sets, so I am not going to get my hopes up. Also, a Sentinel set makes sense, so it is a reasonable guess, and Wolverine (due to his always appearing in X-Men sets!) and Gambit (due to his recent popularity boost) are safe picks as well. One thing that makes me suspicious is that this set allegedly will have four Minifigs (a bit much for Marvel), and only two of them are identified? Is the leaker looking at a really blurry image and can somehow only make out Wolverine and Gambit (but not, for instance, Cyclops or Jean), or are they relying on a name/description of the set, in which case why are two of the Minifigs know to be included but not identified? The only way that this makes sense is if the set is called "Wolverine and Gambit vs. Master Mold and the Sentinels", and the two unidentified Minifigs are Sentinels (to scale with MM). This is my concern as well. -

It is not as much about the size as it is the style and level of detail - If we get a fully modernised Renegade with redesigned Blacktron I astronauts, the GWP will look odd beside it; if we get a Renegade that sticks closely to the original (along with classic Minifigs) to match the GWP, then the set will feel lacklustre and overpriced (see the Majisto's Workshop GWP). 🫤 True, but we are somewhat in uncharted territory for City Space right now, so I get why people would think that the subtheme might fall back into the old pattern. I doubt that will happen again. The only reason that we assumed Blacktron was returning this year was because of the description of the set as a "black spaceship" - The new leak explicitly references the faction, so IMO we can be confident that Blacktron is coming back! -
2025/26 Castle [wishlist/speculation]
Classic_Spaceman replied to GreenhouseBricker's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
We just got a civilian set this year (MTS), so I suspect that the next 18+ set will be more military-focused (as the LKC was in 2022); that said, a farm is definitely high on the list of things LEGO needs to make, but I am not expecting an 18+ one for a while (the next set will probably be more military, with either a joust or a castle (LKC replacement) as the most likely candidates, so we are probably looking at 2028-2030 for a farm 😬). Black Knights are definitely going to be the next revived faction - They are iconic and popular, visually distinct from the current factions, and easy to slot into any setting (Dragon Masters and Fright Knights are more limited to fantasy settings). Of course! We already have two from the LKC, so that frees up element slots as long as the (hypothetical!) joust set starts production before the LKC retires (which is the end of 2025, so a 2026 joust would have those parts available). They are, but we have four horses already in production (reddish brown, dark orange, tan, and white), along with two bardings (Lions and Falcons), so the number we get will probably come down to part count and price (and whether LEGO thinks that we will pay ~$300 for a ~2500-piece set if it includes extra animals!). Also, the Lion and Falcon knight pieces can be reused as well, so the only new elements absolutely needed for a joust set are the Minifigs and bardings for the two additional competitors. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours

Maybe, but even if LEGO had the scannable codes ready to go, they were testing fully-blind boxes at the start and switched after seeing the resulting carnage! They will definitely stick with the codes (or some other method of identification), since the 100% blind route resulted in some people destroying merchandise and others passing on the series’ entirely! Scannable codes are really the perfect solution, since those who want to know what they are getting can do so (without having to awkwardly fondle bags in the middle of the toy isle!), while people who want a surprise (or are unaware of the codes) can still have the blind-box experience. -

Hopefully we can get an expanded warehouse here as well, since shipping times are the most irritating part of ordering from PAB! -

Bandmates were not considered CMFs, and the boxes for these things will be larger than CMF boxes (since there is no way to cram almost thirty parts into a box of that size!). 🫤 I doubt that they need a break to figure out if boxes are working, given how quickly the scannable codes were implemented. -

2025/26 Castle [wishlist/speculation]
Classic_Spaceman replied to GreenhouseBricker's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I suspect that the next Castle offering before at least 2026 (BDP notwithstanding) will be another Creator set, as the Black Falcons’ 3-in-1 is a good set for both kids and AFOLs (and lends itself well to buying multiples!). Something similar in 2HY 2025 is a decent possibility, though I doubt that it will be another full castle (31120 was a soft remake of the Black Falcons’ Fortress, so I can see the next set being based on the Guarded Inn). Whatever it is, I am expecting that it will be for the Lion Knights; I also think that the price range will be around $80-$140, not $200-$250, since non-18+ sets are rarely that expensive (and we are not getting two 18+ Castle sets back-to-back - Especially with the rumour of Blacktron’s return!). A joust/tournament set is simply a must, and provides another facet of medieval life that has yet to be represented in 18+ form! I am personally hoping to get four competitors - Falcons and Lions can be the main two, but we need a Black Knight and maybe a Raven/Crow knight as well to make the competition feel less like a conflict between two houses. New horse colours are essential; I would like to see the white horse from Harry Potter be reused (Lions), a new grey horse (Falcons), and a new/revived black horse (Black Knights)! -

I would actually prefer either an entirely new ship (as the main candidates (the Renegade and the Aerial Intruder) are tricky to size up to scale with the GE), or a collection of smaller models (a base with a ship and a ground vehicle). Another reason that I would prefer Blacktron II over Blacktron I is that any B1 remake should be compatible with the Invader remake GWP, which means sticking to the original size and Minifig design (though a combo set of a slightly scaled-down Message Intercept Base along with the Battrax and Renegade (and Alienator GWP) in the same style as the Invader could actually be really cool!). To be fair, past years’ City space subthemes have not continued beyond their release year, and the colour-scheme and general aesthetic changes with each new wave. The 2024 design is hopefully the new standard going forward, and we get a few additional City Space sets each year (new ships, ground vehicles, base sections, etc)! -

Clear pic of the City Space 2024 (now City Space 2024-2025, I suppose!) mech has leaked! It looks really good for a polybag, and continues with the 2024 Minifigs and colour-scheme! The mech basically looks like the skel suits from the second Avatar movie, and it includes one of the green scientist astronauts. Some very minor criticisms are that the legs look too thin (they need a 1x2 plate on each, to bulk them up), and that there is no terrain to explore or crystals to pick up. -
Nevermind - I found them! Good to see that LEGO is committing to the police redesign - With the lack of any 1HY sets, I worried that they were dropping the sleek new colour-scheme! The Space mech is nearly perfect! The legs are a little spindly (two 1x2 tiles (one per leg) would bulk them up easily), and it could use a crystal to pick up and a tiny bit of terrain to explore (like the hoverbike has), but otherwise it looks really good for a polybag! Also, I am pleased to see that the 2024 colour-scheme, Minifigs, setting (box art), and even the SPACE branding are carrying over into 2025 - This makes me even more excited for the modular spaceship ($80, according to @Brick Clicker)!

The Renegade remake rumour came about because we all assumed that the ~$100 “black spaceship” Icons set would be Blacktron, and the Renegade made the most sense for a direct remake. While I agree that Blacktron I is the more iconic subtheme, LEGO gave us an updated Blacktron II Minifig that was this close to being perfect (we just needed the right leg to be unmutated!), so I want to get a proper Blacktron II astronaut before LEGO takes a break from the faction. Also, I think that the GWP was meant to be the opposing ship referenced in the GE, as anything that we get in 2025 would have begun development after the GE was released (given the ~1-2 year development cycle). My ideal Blacktron II astronaut design would reuse the torso and leg printing designs from the CMF, but with a normal right arm and leg; the helmet would be the City space one in black with PDG ridges at the back, the visor would be trans-bright green, and the Minifig would have a black Star Wars/City Space ‘24 jetpack in black in place of airtanks (airtanks are iconic, but they are also easy to source, and I want to see more diversity in the redesigns of classic factions (helmet styles, back gear, etc)!).
