Scallywag Pirate appreciation thread - best Lego pirate ever (?)
Jack Sassy replied to zinnn's topic in LEGO Pirates
Aye, he is one of the finest. Realistically, it could make sense that the shorts and waistcoat are so different, since, I believe, pirates wore whatever they could find. -
[MOC] Hancock Merchant Sloop and Morton Imperial Brigantine
Jack Sassy replied to CaptainDarkNStormy's topic in Pirate MOCs
These are fine sloop designs, thank ye for the custom sail guide. One thing that should probably be mentioned is that one most likely has to put something underneath the canvas before cutting, otherwise yer desk will be damaged beyong repair. (So ye best suggest using canvas for the sails? As Bruce Wayne once said - do they come in black? ) -
Aye, what I meant is that in some aspects, like the railing or the lantern it seems like taken right out of 1989. It seemed to me a bit out of place but now that I look at it more and more - aye, yer right. Overall, I do like this set, to me, it was about time they released a proper Pirates set. Sure, few quality problems are present but designers did a really good job capturing the essence while updating the look of the fortress itself. Praise to designers!

The ship's design seems a bit too classic () but other than that I think it is a lovely addition for the fortress. Those gaps in the front seem to me as intentional. As I said earlier, we can modify that dock but to me it doesn't seem too big of a problem, interior seems like something between Creator and Lion Knights' Castle (at least the basement). The figure does seem to be a bit problematic but nothing to stand out too much. Of course, everyone has a different opinion about this set. To me, it seems like a lovely upgrade on the original fortress. Sure, it has problems, but nothing that some modification cannot fix. I just feel we all might be going too harsh on this set, perhaps we shoud give it a chance. Indeed, that is the best way of letting them know what should be fixed in the next sets.
-
Nay, but if the only reason (Admittedly, I haven't read the entire conversation from start to finish) for not buying the set is that dock, then I believe one could give it a chance. Besides, it doesn't seem bad (in my eyes ). Which factor makes you think that it is?

Come now, what be a LEGO set without minor modifications? Sure, it isn't a perfect but it be a good set, and for that, we have to give this one a chance in hopes of LEGO making more Pirates sets in the future. Maybe it is just fake optimism but I am willing to give this one a chance to at least show those statistics that LEGO Pirates still rock!

Truly a masterpiece of our own time, no one could achieve what ye have - building the most realistic 18th century vessel out of LEGO. I must say, ye have accomplished it all. Congratulations! On a side note, I do like the idea of building a vessel out of casual Duplo bricks (or are they blocks?). This one achieves creative aspect of such an idea. Well done!

I shall eagerly wait for it. Ah, so there are various colours too? With any luck, I could possibly pick few of these up from BL.

Truly fits well on a soldier.

As absurd as it may sound, that pier could be meant for the 2020 Black Seas Barracuda.
-
That Captain Hook looks adorable.

In that case, this is a line LEGO has not dared to cross since 2012: Huh, not really, according to Brickset, this year's Harry Potter has blood stains: Still, I require at least one dark rum bottle, those green ones seem like wine bottles.
-
Well, that better be rum in those barrels rather than wine.

One can never have too many pirate pubs.
-
I just realised, this fortress is a perfect beginning for a colonial town. @Mister Phes and I had a debate some time ago about tudor buildings in the colonies, but alas, we can use those medieval sets for civilian buildings. Only thing this set lacks is a pirate pub.
-
I love it! At last, a proper pirate set. I will not buy it on first day because I always wait for discounts.

Well, the minifigure from this particular set right now sells for an average price of 12.36 new and 6.85 used in euro. Rarely do sellers sell these figures with accesories but these particular accesories sell for 12 to 65 cents average each (Of course, the sword is the cheapest and musket is the most expensive one).
-
I was thinking more like 5 - 10 euro sets like those that were popular around 2009. Those provided great value for army building. Take this one as an example:
-
It looks to me as if the arms are attached to the body while also attaching the bag.

Ah, didn't know that, thank ye! I would be settled for smaller battle pack type sets like those of the Classic Pirates. Then again, that would mean a whole new wave which seems like something LEGO doesn't want to do.
-
No way, it is possible to make a much better version of the Hulkbuster from that set. Truly, ye have managed to create a historic MOC! Yer models are always a much better improvement over the original set and this one does not fail to deliver. And the fact that it fits the Iron Man too, genius! An astounding job!

But isn't that monopoly of bricks that LEGO designed (Admittedly, I don't know the full history behind System brick design)?

Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Jack Sassy replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
Indeed that one. Well, I live on the north-eastern edge of Europe and here these sets sell quite middlingly, then again, people aren't too crazy about LEGO here anyway.
