[MOC] The Skull Island - Remake of 70411: Treasure Island
Jack Sassy replied to zinnn's topic in Pirate MOCs
Ah, so we finally see yer MOC skills on display, and a fine MOC it is indeed! Love the skull, the rock formation and especially that creative ladder. Yer first entry on this forum is outstanding. Love it! Now, all it is missing is a pirate pub. -
Welcome to the forum, don't be shy because some people know more about LEGO Pirates than others, we all are a friendly lot (long as ye have the rum ). Or the letter contains a treasure map. If LEGO plans to release more Pirates sets in the future, perhaps purspose of this letter will be revealed. For now it truly is up to one's imagination.

I too shall contribute to this topic. Some time ago I was browsing BL for some pieces that I required for a MOC, one of those pieces was 1x2x2 2/3 window with rounded top in black: Now, the piece itself isn't too expensive but certainly costs significantly more than in other colours (at the moment there are a lot of sellers selling these in enormous quantities, but that was not the case back when I bought them) as it costs around 1 euro or more, opposed to 20 - 30 cents per piece. I was not aware of its release history, only appearing in two sets, one of which was a legacy rerelease in the 2000s. I ended up buying five of them for certainly more than 1 euro per piece (cannot recall the price anymore ). (After checking its release history, I found that it has recently been released in the new Jazz Club set, hooray! )

Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

They keep saying something similar, but soon we find that another exclusive set has been released. Would make that joke about the fridge scene as a set couple pages ago quite true. -

[MOC] The Black Pearl - 20th Anniversary - FINISHED 2-page
Jack Sassy replied to Marooned Marin's topic in Pirate MOCs
A fine representation of this fine vessel, @Marooned Marin! I can never get tired of a good Black Pearl MOC and this one certainly captures the look of the dreaded vessel excellently. Especially love yer solution for the figurehead. An astounding job!- 46 replies

Which Pirates sets have (or may have) problem with brittle brown bricks?
Jack Sassy replied to zinnn's topic in LEGO Pirates
That is crazy. Somehow, I have had a reddish brown piece break apart only once, despite having quite a lot of sets that fall in the 2009 - 2016 category. I have been collecting LEGO for some 15 years or so and I guess my luck with brown parts hasn't ran out yet. -
Which Pirates sets have (or may have) problem with brittle brown bricks?
Jack Sassy replied to zinnn's topic in LEGO Pirates
Did the bricks snap recently or not too long after ye obtained the set? Aye, but from what I heard, they changed the formula around 2018 so at this point all brown/dark red pieces should be more durable. That and colour fades the bricks. -
Hmm, I will possibly update all of the pictures.

José got a little creative with this one. Aye, I really need to set up the figures so their faces aren't covered by objects. Thank ye! It seems to be the problem. So far I have been using two lamps but it seems I be in need of an upgrade. I shall, thank ye for the suggestion and compliments. I was just thinking yesterday about the solution for my ship MOC's photo shoot. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just experimented with a bit of picture editing. In comparison with the original, do ye think this one might be a bit better? New: Original:

Should be, unless they have changed material again.

Ahoy there! It be a longer time since I last published a MOC of mine over here (over two years! ), so I decided to take the liberty of sharing one. As I mentioned in the Eldorado Fortress topic, one thing the new set is missing is a pirate pub and that made me recall a small build I did two years ago, mostly using pieces from Pirates of Barracuda Bay. So, here be the Island Inn! My photography skills are still lacking but everytime I try to do better. This scene depicts pirates on a quiet island in Caribbean. As it so happens, this island has one of José's Inns. On the right there are two poor sea dogs being harassed by a shark. A lone pirate captain orders barman Tattooga chalice of rum, while a scurvy looking gentleman enjoys fishing in shallow waters. Judging by the amount of rum and wine left, it seems to be a busy day. A cook prepares some meals, mostly porridge and cookies. The back side is a lot more rocky than the lovely dock behind. And a bird's eye view, island has few supplies, one palm tree, lovely variety of wildlife and some vegetation. A friendly 'pit stop' for farers alike. And that be all. Thank ye for taking time to observe this small build of mine, hope to publish more builds in the future! Good old times. Hmm, I believe that everyone is allowed to post whatever pictures of high quality one can find on internet, as long as the title, author and picture are present (of course, picture has to be up to the given standards). (If no one wishes to publish the picture in the topic, I shall do so in the nearest time.)

To me it seems that they wanted to make this feel as classic as possible but might have taken it too far. For instance, palm trees, shakos (possibly other things) - these seem to be sticking too much to the original. While classic is good, this set aims to be a modern interpretation but it seems they might have possibly misinterpreted just how classic we might want this set. Nevertheless, I do like it but can't say that fully until I obtain and build it.

I see, but this set doesn't seem like a deceptively polished product, more like an attempted mix of Space and Castle remakes.

What is the Disney mindset?

I see yer point. However, to me, LEGO is all about changing things to me own liking because it is impossible for a set to please each LEGO fan in the world. Despite numerous flaws, I still see this as a lovely remake and feel that the criticism is a bit harsh. Dunno, maybe it is just the fake optimism I have after 3 years of no Pirates. At this point, design has grown on me.
