LEGO Star Wars 2022 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Not that the "leak" by republic studs isn't completely BS (Bricks Separated ), but I wouldn't mind a 212th battle pack. They're almost as iconic as the 501st, and currently a standard 212th trooper costs more than the entire set he came in did. Falconfan has, of course, proven that at the very least, republic studs is spinning "I guess it could make sense" into "one is coming next year", so I don't think this particular rumor has any merit at all, but I do think the idea of a 212th battle pack isn't out of the question. We could hypothetically see one next year, but no one reliable has let any info about any 2023 LSW sets out yet. -

That makes more sense. I do wonder if they intend to place batman and flash in opposition for the marketing, then, sort of like how they origionally planned for NWH to be marketed as spider-man vs doctor strange. This is one of the reasons I haven't picked up any battinson sets. I hate how little effort went into that minifigure. I'm guessing we don't have the movie eyes because the current cowls have the eye holes above where the standard figure eyes go, so it'd look really weird as a minifigure head, but c'mon, you can make a single new mold to fix that. Captain america, flash himself, tons of characters have shown that's possible. -
[M4-22 - Alphabet Starfighter] Tie Jaculus
Mandalorianknight replied to CrappyMocMaker's topic in Watto's Junkyard
Thanks! I think you're right on the symmetry thing, I'm not sure what about your fighter specifically reminds me of the old legends ones. I will say, I like the in-universe intro you've got, I might steal that style of intro if that's alright. Also, the ship kind of seems like an imperial answer to the b-wing, in the way that A-wings and interceptors are similar, or y-wings and bombers. I think classically the defender is considered the opposite of the B-wing, but I never liked that. A ship like this, heavily armed, with the cockpit on one side, seems like a much better anti-B-wing than the canon one. -
[M4-22 - Alphabet Starfighter] Tie Jaculus
Mandalorianknight replied to CrappyMocMaker's topic in Watto's Junkyard
I think this is our first starfighter submission for the contest, and a good one to start on! I like that it's a TIE, I saw alphabet-wing and just assumed everyone would do rebel starfighters. This is good, a little wacky with the single wing, but it reminds me of the old legends TIEs, and I love the missiles. The J-resemblence is great too. Most of the alphabet fighters have an overall resemblance to their letter, but aren't just flying capital letters, and I think this TIE follows that nicely. Better than the B-wing at least, seriously, why it's not called the T-wing is beyond me. (Lets me make a T-wing for my own MOC, though). -

I'm still shocked that they're going ahead with this movie after what Ezra Miller did in Hawaii (and a little annoyed considering projects have been cancelled for a lot less), but I guess if they're still confident in the movie, there's got to be something there. Either that or it's such a train wreck they just want to throw it into theatres and be done with it. I share the pipe dream of both Keaton and Batfleck appearing, but I think most likely it'll be a modified batmobile with small side build, Miller's Flash, Keaton's Batman using the type 2 cowl instead of the Keaton Cowl/cape, and Sasha Calle's Supergirl. Maybe a villain of some sort, but since they seem to be pretending that they're keeping... that villain secret, I don't think we'll see him. -

Between this and Storm, you're going for the 12x12 championships, man! Iconic SW moment with a hilariously complicated story behind it (watch the documentary). Love the model, it reminds me of that classic 2007-2008 era of Lego Star Wars. Gah, I'm still not even sure what I'm gonna do for my 12x12s. -

These are some great figures, like I said in the other thread. I admit my legends knowledge isn't as much as it should be, so I only recognize the KOTOR figures (I knew who Exar Kun was but didn't know what he looked like). Some cursory googling shows that these are all great representations, though. (and again, at risk of repeating myself from the other thread, using thena's torso for Bastila is genius). I also have some good news for you; lego has made yellow lightsaber blades. Not in a star wars set, but they have molded the 4l bar in trans-yellow. I have 4 of them right now (2 for bastila, 1 for rey, 1 just in case), and they're still pretty cheap on bricklink, at about a quarter each. While making sure the price hadn't spiked since I ordered it, I found that besides the "official" saber colors (red, green, blue, purple), and the other ones that have been officially molded, just not placed in sets as lightsabers (yellow, pink, old neon orange, some other shades of blue), they've recently made them in trans clear! And with the frosting the new ones have, it'll be perfect for Ahsoka customs!

Welp, waste of time for me to have built the liberty parlance moc. This one is the definite winner. You can't tell there's a 12x12 restriction, the techniques are great, and most importantly for a dynamic action contest, the figures are posed really well. Although for me it wins just because of the Brutaka mask chariot. That's (pearl) gold right there.
-
The bounty hunter is definately the weakest of the figures here, but I think the flesh hand is accurate. For some reason he's not wearing a glove. Also, and this is unrelated, these are all supposed to be cyborgs, but to me they mostly look like guys in mashed up stormtrooper armor, like Dengar. Like this guy's arm is missing, but it's really more of a prothesis than a full cyborg.

I would assume there's more. This wave has been getting revealed very piecemeal and is currently at what? 7 sets, compared to the usual 10ish?, so I'd guess at the very least there's a retailer exclusive or two on the way. Is this a reference to something? It's a good joke nonetheless (I respect the correct piece count), but I wouldn't be surprised if this was real in legends. -

A v-wing, Fennec's ship (Which is pretty big too, but you could definately make it for less than $160), a Nu-class shuttle (again, pretty big, but they could probably do it around the $120-130 range), a small Kamino Lab set, a Kamino training facility set, a minifigure pack with a speeder bike, the imperial gunship, probably many more I'm forgetting. Point is, there were a lot of options that were cheaper and less obscure, and even if they had to do the $160 set and decided Omega NEEDED to be in it, they could have done something like the Nu-Shuttle. -
I'm pretty excited for this, I get off school (for good) next week, and I've already started some of the smaller ones (I've already posted the minifigures, too). I'm probably just failing to see where it says this, but are we allowed to submit multiple entries for the same category? Like, say there's a totally hypothetical scenario where I have concepts for a riskier, gimmicky letter-wing fighter as well as a more standard one. Would I be able to submit both, or no?

Wait, where did you see this? I can't find it on their articles or instagram. Yeah, exactly. A set that big needs to either be something iconic, great value, or have a lot of great figures. The justifier really doesn't have any of that. Bane's great and all, but for a $160 set, you might as well just buy the duros head from the rebel battle pack in 2015, some generic cowboy hat and trenchcoat torso, and be on your way for like $6. Just finished the dagobah set...it's my new favorite set, beating out 2020's bespin duel. It looks INCREDIBLE, is pretty good value for $80 (sure, most of the 1000 parts are smaller, but despite being so dense it's also pretty sizable), it's just a great set. There are some awesome techniques like using different colors under the trans-green tiles to make the water look shallower by the shore, and white plates under the tiles by the x-wing to make it look like there's more of it underneath. The figures are great too, and while a force ghost ben would have been nice, it's definately not necessary. I cannot WAIT to get more of these in the future. I wasn't planning on getting the other two, but after this one, I might have to get the trench run. -

My order finally arrived, and I was a little surprised by the promos. The polybag AT-ST looks stupid, but I think that's more so just the Hoth AT-ST in general looking dorky to me. It's got nice parts and it's free, so I'm not complaining. The Beskar keychain was really surprising. Upon opening the package, I was a little surprised how small it was, from all the images I'd seen for some reason I thought it was about the size of a credit card, but any size concerns were quickly taken away by the quality. It's metal, it's got some heft to it, and it looks great! I'm glad I got it. I'm keeping the Beru one sealed, but it looks nice. The only standard sets I've built from my order so far are the final 2 snowtrooper packs I needed, so there wasn't much new there, although I managed to get a halfway decent MTV-7 out of some of the parts. I'm very excited to start my Yoda's training set, it looks so good. The box art is superb. (Actually, that reminds me, there was a printing issue on the box of one of my snowtrooper packs, which I'd never see before. The thumb punch out thing was printed above where it actually was.) -

Noted. I will have to trip the local children to obtain the set first. Jokes aside, that does track with costco. Great prices, but the availability of specific items isn't always there. You really got to lower your expectation (by raising the expected price): The current one, who appeared in a $30 set, is $16 in the UK and $18 in the US...for the cheapest figure. A brand new one in a MUCH more expensive set is going to be a hell of a lot more expensive. And I don't entirely understand what the parting out thing means. Like, if people buy it and scrap the set for parts, it's assumably because they want the figures, right? And if you're saying the popularity will cause people to try and sell all the bits of it, including figures, separately, that would mean it's because they think they can sell the figures for a lot, right? We'll see. That would make sense, but Promobricks seems to be good at figure identification (Especially if they can tell kaminoans apart). And I agree, this is a HUGE development for clone minifigures. BD-1 and AT-ST info is out as well, which I missed. I will definately pick up my beloved space dog, and skip the juniors AT-ST, though it does sound like a solid set. Seriously, I may have to buy the parts for the BD-1 skin I use in fallen order as well as the set. -

The fact that they new-molded the generic clone helmet instead of a new cody helmet with molded visor makes me think that at the very least, they wanted the door open for Rex. I'm always hearing this, I'm going to have to start looking into Costco prices, especially for the AT-TE and Inquisitor ship? Sounds like they make the feet smaller to create an illusion of a larger AT-TE, which sounds nice to me, but only if it actually works, of course. Every single clone is absurdly expensive on bricklink for what similar figures are in terms of appearances, price of the set they were in, and years since release, so I wouldn't hope for him to be cheap, ESPECIALLY if he has a standard P2 helmet in the new style. The helmet ALONE is $11 in the US. Seeing as we're getting at least 3 obi-wan figures this wave, I'm pretty happy they chose to include another clone instead. -

Yup, it's speculated that's for the same rights reason, hence why Tom Holland didn't return like so many of his compatriots. Seems they've solved that with Freshman year, though who knows, maybe spidey'll never have the homemade suit. Heard mixed things about Dr Strange 2, but a friend of mine really recommended it and said it had a similar violence level to MK and DD, so I guess I'm seeing it tomorrow! I have a nice Strange figure from the 2016 set but I might have to get the CMF wanda if i like the movie. -

Because it kind of sounds like this was originally an episode 2 set, and they changed it to far down the line to have a new build. Not confirmed, but that's my guess, given the dwarf spider droid was known early on, and promobricks implies that the set was changed from AOTC to ROTS based. I know, it's great we're finally getting cody. The promobricks statement of a revamped gunner could also just mean strongly updated printing, or the different helmet used by AT-TE pilots. And technically, holes in the side of the head is a new mold . It's necessarily just the design process that's expensive, it's the actual molds (said to cost hundreds of thousands of dollars), so even minor mold changes are "new molds" in that regard. Though either way, holes for the p2 helmets have been a long time coming, and I'm VERY excited. Alright, set by set: I'll probably get the Delta-7, I don't have one yet and the Kaminoan sounds great. I'll have to see the diorama build before getting it, as it sounds like a weird mix of 18+ and play features, but hopefully it looks good. Figure selection is nice too, more than just Obi and Vader, and that droid is a cool design. Not sure what that andor set means at all, but it's at least nice to know it's getting something, even if three figures is pretty low for a $70 set. Definite pass on the justifier. I don't care about the vehicle at all, already have Fennec and Hunter, don't care about Todo, and I have a purist custom omega, so it doesn't feel worth it to me to spend $160 essentially on Bane and a better Omega. Inquisitor's ship is nice. I don't think I'll get it unless the show enamors me, but it's great to see that the inquisitor prices will all go down. And finally, the wallet killer. I'm going to actively try NOT to get this, because of the price, and I JUST spent like $100 on parts for my custom one a month or two ago, but DAMN, that figure selection. P2 Cody, 3 of my favorite clone legion with the helmet change I've always wanted, a CLONE GUNNER, and the battle droids and dwarf spider droid are nice. The feet thing is a nice trick to make it seem larger too, I wish i'd thought of that for my moc. I'm gonna hope that they eventually put at least the 212th troopers into cheaper sets, but if no one shows up as the set nears retirement, I might have to get it and use the parts to update my AT-TE. -

IIRC the disney stark suit (the one on the avengers campus) has, among it's slight changes to avoid any rights issues, a lighter blue, so that might be what you're thinking of. That said, so long as we're on the subject of colors, Rescue's suit is dark blue, not purple. -

You gotta change your name, man, this is the second time in a row you've proved it wrong. I'll be honest, I never would have thought of using this shot for the contest, but you made it work. Some solid detailing back there, but the real star is that excellent figure posing. -

I'd love to see a new one, maybe even with a standard figure head like in the 2005 video game. Alright, last jedi wave. Not exactly favorite film, but it's definately got some great ww2-style ship designs: Microfighters: Resistance Bomber ($9.99): Finch Dallow (blue resistance bomber) Supremacy ($9.99): Snoke Ski Speeder vs first order at-st ($19.99): Poe Dameron (Ski speeder pilot) and First Order driver Battle Packs: Crait resistance ($14.99): 2x crait resistance trooper (olive resistance helmets), 1x resistance sniper (hoth helmet with gray goggles), 1x resistance soldier (pot helmet). Build is a small trench with turret. First Order Elite troopers ($14.99): Stormtrooper commander (ammo pouch, pauldron), megablaster stormtrooper, stormtrooper executioner, riot control stormtrooper. Sure, but there've been plenty of times rumors didn't pan out, and a confirmation from a reliable source would be awesome. Yeah, there's a line leakers have to walk. I'm not one to get mad when, say, Jdubbs does one of his cryptic hints, because he's just doing a post on eurobricks. Likewise, the ocassional vague hint makes sense, since obviously if you give up all the info you have the second you get it, lego can probably figure out who you are. But when Promobricks keeps teasing the same thing, and then just gets rid of the posts... that's starting to feel a little more like clickbaiting.
