LEGO Star Wars 2022 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Daredevil not only widely regarded as the greatest superhero show of all time, but on a lot of review sites (like rotton tomatoes and the like), it's up there in the top television shows ever. You should watch it. It's incredible. I've been getting steadily more annoyed with the quality of many marvel shows recently, but Daredevil is a masterpiece. But definately not for kids. TV-MA violence, profanity, some...other mature content at certain points. But anyway, yeah, that's pretty much what I meant, that Andor might be geared more towards adults than kids. So the march sets are helmets or dioramas, right? Also agree with @ArrowBricks's sentiment that winter waves are back. A good number of sets, some of them pretty large for a winter wave. The only things missing are battle packs, but if they've continued with the accessory packs, then it might just be that the different set numbers stopped them from leaking alongside the other sets. -
Marvel Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
TFATWS has a scene with 4 major characters, a truck, and a helicopter. If the truck was carrying a mech, it'd literally be the perfect marvel set in lego's eyes. I haven't seen Ms. Marvel, and I understand they've altered her powers somewhat, but so long as they didn't go so far as to remove her grow/shrink powers, a mech type set that's meant to just be an enlarged ms marvel could work. I don't think the new Black Panther will be in the Wakanda Forever sets. I know people say they could just have it masked and just call the figure black panther, but the printing on the torso would narrow it down pretty significantly, and if they're going to market the mystery of the new panther at all, they wouldn't want a clue that removes 50% of the candidates out before the film. -

I wish. Given that it's a full 18 episodes, has the same cast, etc, I think/hope it'll be TV-MA, but that would mean Born Again really couldn't get sets. Good point, wasn't the hair wrong for one of the Dr Strange factory leaks a couple months back? -

Honestly, Shazam seems like a ton of fun and something that has to have a lot of appeal to kids. There's no way a set with the Shazamily fighting dragons wouldn't sell like hotcakes. -
Marvel Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Wow...that's an amazing deal. I wasn't planning on getting either of those sets but now I'm interested. SDCC had some great announcements (Born Again alone has me ready to stick with marvel past a million Eternals films... it's even gonna come out around my birthday!), but not much in the way of lego. Nothing from that black panther trailer (which was it just me or did that feel really similar to the avatar 2 trailer?) that seems like it'd make a great set, I guess maybe the boat. And I don't see I am Groot or She Hulk getting any sets at all. -

$28.49? You should buy em! (Yes, I know, I know, it's not the actual price) My first thought was that it was crazy how early you found that, but I suppose it's only a week out. Not sure how well that set's gonna sell, though. No real recognizable characters to kids, not many figs for the price, and well Andor has a good chance at being the Daredevil of Star Wars tv, I don't see it being a hit among children. -

It's definately on the docket for wishlist wave three. That said, I'm not done with 2 yet and heading to college in less than a month... it might be a while. But it's a good idea. -

I maintain that we'll soon see a battle pack with 212th troopers and a crab droid. It's that death trooper/praetorian guard/dark trooper/etc pattern. Introduce desirable trooper in an expensive set, than 6-9 months later give it a battle pack. At least I hope it is. Anyway, finished the Torrent (It's 511 pcs including figs, so I did manage to keep it around that $50 price point!) and moving on to the fanblade. -
Lego Avatar 2022/3 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Mr No's topic in LEGO Licensed
I was talking with a friend (who refuses to use this site for some reason) who had a similar sentiment. He loves the human army's aesthetic but doesn't care about the blue people's stuff. He told me he's gonna try and buy the Sampson by itself on bricklink (Though given the commanality of the sentiment, I said I didn't think it would do much better, not that it wouldn't do better at all. And yes, ATLA is an in demand IP... but almost exclusively among the 18-30ish demographic. The kids that grew up with it (tying into my Indiana jones thing) are now on the prowl for more ATLA content, but that's not the same as lego's target demo. I think an ideas set (if they'd accept one for once) or an 18+ set of Appa could do well, but I can't see a full line of 6-12 sets selling well. At least Avatar itself has the advantage of a movie coming this winter, whereas ATLA, while setting up that studio and implying it's got multiple projects on the way, hasn't announced anything concrete further than "live-action remake" AFAIK. And we all know how well that did. Anyway, TLDR is that you run into the same problem with ATLA that you do for Avatar; the demographics aren't right yet. With Avatar, they really have to bank on the second movie being another juggarnaut, because the first doesn't have many kid fans, and it's faded enough for adults that I can't see enough buying sets for it. With ATLA, the generation that grew up with it are young adults now, but there's nothing new with the franchise yet and it hasn't been long enough for those who liked it as kids to show it to kids of their own. I'll again bring up IJ as a counterpoint, which while in a similar "sets come out months before the film" situation as Avatar, has the advantage of the nostalgic middle aged men and their kids who grew up with it. I suppose Harry Potter works here too. The Fantastic Beasts films, with their steady decline in quality and viewership, aren't what's driving sales. It's the nostalgic parents and kids that are reading and watching the classics. -
Lego Avatar 2022/3 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Mr No's topic in LEGO Licensed
In this particular instance, I agree, as I don't think an ATLA theme would do much better than an Avatar theme as that guy claimed. But I don't think Avatar was a good idea for a full theme. The vast majority of kids do not know or care about Avatar, and I'm not sure that the second film is going to ignite a frenzy of kids wanting merchandise of it. As for adults... I don't know many who actually care enough about Avatar to shell out for sets. You mentioned the Indiana Jones theme, which I think is a good example of a theme that, while it might not be fresh in the minds of kids, is REALLY nostalgic for generations of adults, many of who do show the films to their kids, ensuring the franchise lives on. Avatar was a flash in the pan. I do wonder if lego is "pitting the themes against eachother", sort of like they did with spongebob and ATLA back in 2006. If so, I know which horse I'm betting on. And it's not the weird blue one. -

Clearly, lego P2 Commander Cody is not supposed to exist, and him being manufactured into physical form has caused glitches in the Matrix. -
Wow. that's really impressive. Looks almost like a stock model rather than a lego build from some angles.

Wow, you aren't joking. Your last post was in 2008. What did you think of bionicle G2? This is definately a worthy winner of the creature category. A unique decision to make more of a life-sized statue than a minifigure scale one, and some truly incredible part choices. -

And to add to that, many 18+ sets tend to be Lego store/S@H exclusives, or at least not commonly picked up by your local Targets and Walmarts (Or Symths or Tesco). -
LEGO Star Wars 2022 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I agree in part, but not entirely. What Cara's actress said isn't remotely the same as what the Mythrol's actor did, and since if lego didn't make characters for actors that said controversial things, we would lose a LOT of characters, I agree that we'll still see her (and hope. the current figure doesn't look much like her so I'd like a better one). And like I said, I also think since the mythrol doesn't look like what's-his-face, he's totally fair game. But on the other hand, I don't think they'd make a face print in the likeness of someone who did something like what the Mythrol's actor did. I'm not saying I wouldn't want them too, I can separate, say, the flash from his actor, but I'm not sure if they will. And speaking of the flash, that should be a good test of how far lego goes in this regard. There's a set for the film (assumably containing his figure) that's been delayed alongside the film since the guy who plays flash decided to go commit all of the crimes known to man. So if the set ever releases, it'll be interesting to see if an Ezra Miller Flash figure is included. But anyway to stay vaguely on topic, this concludes basically to: I'm not sure how far lego'll go in this regard, but I think the Mythrol is definately possible for a UCS Razor Crest. I hope so as well. I don't care too much about obtaining a Kuill myself, but I hope those who want him can get him in something cheaper than a $530 set. I could see them doing something like putting a Mando-era Ahsoka in another set alongside the Crest, but keeping, like, a new hood mold for her montrals exclusive to the more expensive set. That way Mando Era Ahsoka isn't hard to get, but there's still a nice exclusive for people who do buy the UCS set. -
Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
Wait, hold on. Your argument is "one theme is overpriced despite the lack of a licensing fee, so therefore the indiana jones sets with prices reported by a reliable source are wrong"? That doesn't make a lot of sense. I think the prices are right because A: It's not all that unusual for some licensed themes to have good prices (like I said, harry potter, and I think someone said avatar's prices were pretty good too though I haven't seen those sets), and B: they were reported on by a reliable source. Now, Promobricks does say the prices could increase since lego has increased the prices of some upcoming sets, so it is possible that some of the indiana jones sets fall victim, but I don't think you can logically get to "No, clearly the prices are wrong." Yup. And you can bet lego knows this. If Lucasfilm provided them with any concept art of the ancient romans, they'll be in the sets. -
That is GENIUS! My own bomber has a troublesome gear mechanism that doesn't always work and only fits a few 2x2 round bricks in as bombs. The bombing feature you've come up with is actually incredible.

That could be fun, and a nice way to have an exclusive figure without having an exclusive figure, if that makes sense. Yeah, no, like I said, I don't see them going out of their way to make him either. I was just pointing out that since the mythrol doesn't look like that guy (Again, unlike how Superman Returns's Lex Luthor looks like Kevin Spacey), they have a little bit of clearance in that regard. -
10497 Galaxy Explorer 90th anniversary set
Mandalorianknight replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I'm so upset with myself that I sold off most of my space squads. All I have left are one each of white and yellow spacemen. I think I'm gonna have to get myself another couple eventually. This set is going to be the first big non-star wars set I've bought since I was... twelve, maybe? I think it was the airport fight from marvel. So clearly I was too young to really get into classic space, but I had my dad's old stuff, including many of the parts of the original galaxy explorer (I checked, not enough to rebuild). I've always liked the classic space idea, and the lack of set lore really gets my storytelling gears turning. (I have this whole setup ready where red is security, white are pilots, yellow are comm officers, blue are mechanics, pink are specialists in resource/land surveyeing. Then rarer colors like orange and black are captains and base commanders.- 535 replies

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
Mandalorianknight replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I mean, one could argue buying legos as an adult is "quite silly". It's what we do. Plus, how many children are you expecting to buy this set? At least the galaxy explorer is comparably affordable for kids. This is going to be a set mainly purchased by adults. And while it's of course unrealistic to expect a set to be completely historically accurate, there's a difference between "this castle set based on the idealized middle ages has a faction that didn't really exist and isn't based on a specific castle" and "this castle set has a lot of female knights, but knights were almost exclusively men", because we know lego isn't going to make a set based on the Sacrum Imperium Romanum, but until recently they at least kept the knights the gender they were. It'd be like if they gave every knight a flintlock instead of their other weapon. You might say, "Sure, it's not really historically accurate, but buyers probably already have spare swords and pikes, right?", but it's still kind of annoying. I'm never going to be able to afford this set, especially since it's a bit lower on my priority list compared to some of the other giant sets coming out this year, but I get people's nitpick. Anyway, here are my thoughts as someone who mainly collects Lego Star Wars: I like it overall. It's a real nice castle with some actual depth and design to it than all the squares we've seen, and it adds in some actual colored roofing rather than the standard assortment of towers and stonework. I also like that it brought in some of the more famous factions (wolfpack would be cool, though). The amount of figures is very nice, and I'm glad that there are a solid amount of soldiers along with some peasants and other factions. The size is also of note. The price is high, but it seems worth it. The castle seems HUGE. I wonder if, assuming the set sells well, we'll see more. A Forestmen enclave or Falcon Knight castle could be cool, as well as some sort of Wolfpack lodge. That's one of the things I always felt was missing, it was just the good knights and the bad knights. We rarely saw different organizations, much less ones like the forestmen and wolfpack, who weren't just "good" or "evil". I may have grown up in the waning days of castle, back when it was "kingdoms", but I liked even the Crown and Dragon knights enough to get a couple sets. If I ever strike gold, I'll be picking this up.- 2,976 replies

Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
See that's what I thought at first, but when I heard about the specific contents of the sets I realized I was probably going to buy at least some of them despite my better judgement. Apparently it is. My first thought was "No, they have to just mean Italian soldiers stationed in Rome, right?", but apparently yeah, it's straight up ancient romans. If they are in any of the new sets, that'll sell like hotcakes. The roman soldier CMF figure has to be one of the most expensive on the aftermarket, aside from Mr. Gold. Wait, that's actually awesome. My first thought was "Time travel, isn't that far fetched for Indiana Jones?"...but no, not really when compared to the aliens. And it's cool that they're basing it off an actual theory. (Which honestly isn't a far-fetched one to me if it's just saying they tried. There's some really wacky stuff the nazis were working on towards the end of the war.). Nice way to continue the tradition of the odd-numbered films being him versus the Nazis, too (and hopefully the tradition of the odd-numbered films being the best ones, as well) -

DC Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Didn't someone say the hulkbuster was releasing in october? I thought someone gave out some more concrete information on it recently, they made it sound pretty sweet too. As for the $500 one, the more expensive a set is, the close to their chest lego seems to play. UCS and MBS sets especially tend to be without image leaks until just days before reveal (Razor Crest sticker sheet nonwithstanding). The lack of any information is a bit worrisome, but there have been times where we haven't had any reliable rumors on the UCS/MBS set until a month or two out from reveal. If the set releases in october-december, I think the current lack of information isn't too odd. I like the new profile pic, by the way.
