LEGO Star Wars 2022 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

Exactly. People love to mock them, but you have to remember they're literally meant for 4 year olds. This one especially reminds me of the original AT-ST set. -
DC Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Oh, no, you misunderstand. I know we're at that stage, I'm saying that's what's sad and kind of funny. Eh, I'm sure we'll see one for the next Battinson movie if it picks up where the first left off. Yeah. Batman: Affleck doesn't seem to want to go on, even though people have turned around on his performance. Superman: for some reason they're not bringing Cavill back, even though he was well-liked and he wants to do more, and instead replacing him. Wonder Woman: I'm not up to date on DC rumors, but I haven't heard anything about bringing Gadot back, even though she, like Cavill, was considered one of the better parts of the DCEU. Aquaman: He might be the only one doing well, but even then, the second film's delayed and his co-star did some messed up stuff. Cyborg:..might not be his fault, but he's never coming back. Flash: ...and yeah. Ezra Miller makes the rest of this seem like nothing. No idea how he got away with this stuff as long as he did, or how slow hollywood was to do anything once he finally got caught, even though Johnny Depp got immediately knocked off all upcoming movies over what turned out to be very false accusations. But yeah, I don't think we'll be seeing his flash again. -

You're on! That'll be a fun challenge, and it's been forever since the last Torrent fighter. I dunno. My experience has been that online it's overwhelmingly positive, but everyone I know in real life that's seen it has either disliked it/been ambivalent, or said that they didn't watch it because it wasn't about mando. With Boba Fett, the people I talked to IRL that weren't hardcore fans thought it was fine, and of course everyone loved mando. And while there won't be any movies next year, there's gonna be what, 3-4 live action shows, and a couple animated ones? It might be tougher to fit in kenobi than if it was a movie year. You've changed my mind on them releasing two sets before, though. I think probably they banked on Kenobi and Vader being recognizable enough to make multiple sets with it, so in a way you're probably right that they anticipated the series being hyped up. Alright, here's mine. Going off the last couple winter waves, and the fact that along with your endor prediction, we get a couple sets tying into a previous wave or UCS set: In spoiler for space: Ok, here's the sort of template for the wishlist, with two spots already filled: Microfighter (2) Microfighter dual pack (1) $15-range battle pack (2) $20-range duel set (1) $25-40 range system set (1) Per SW's V-19 Torrent ($49.99): Clone pilot (p1), clone trooper (p1), captain rex (p1), anakin skywalker (clone wars, navy and maroon robes), 2x b1 battle droid. $70-100 range system set (2) Mandalorianknight's Suwantek TL-1800 freighter ($119.99): TL-1800 with interior cockpit, gunnery stations, 2 rooms (with hidden equipment closets) and a small hanger with room for Brightwater's bike. Comes with Daric Larone, Taxtro Grave, Saberan Marcoss, Joak Quiller, Korlo Brightwater, (all in their non-armored outfits), and Mara Jade, as well as 3 stormtrooper armor suits and 1 scout trooper armor suit for the closets. $120-160 range system set (1) $25-40 range quote diorama (1) $50-80 range quote diorama (1) So we're off to a solid start with Per's Torrent and the Suwantek I've selfishly added. If you guys want to try filling out the rest of the spots, please do. I like doing these waves, but I don't have many ideas for what to do for this one. -
Here's my final entries for each catagory: Alphabet fighter: 12x12 vignette: Brick Built Creature: Purist minifigures:

Wishlist: Future Star Wars Sets and Minifigures
Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
twelve, I think. A new one would be great, but I worry that with the AT-TE being one of the largest sets this wave and high demand for a gunship, we won't see an ARC anytime soon since it'd be another large republic set, and like @The Stud says with all the new content coming out I'm worried we won't see it. Totally agree about the Jedi series needing and likely getting a set next year. But for Kenobi, I don't know. It seems pretty polarizing (some like it, some don't, and we know how that turned out with getting TLJ sets after the initial waves), on a viewership level it apparently was only 20% above TBOBF's finale, and regardless, we know about the obi-wan sets long before the show came out, so that means nothing in regards to how well it did. Also, just a reminder: If you've got set ideas you'd want to see done as MOCS, let me know! I want to get started on a new wishlist wave soon. -
Minor spoilers for fallen order, but the game's been out for years, so Here's my final contest submission, based off the game Fallen order. It's 7 levels, each level representing a different one of the 7 full planets he visits in the game: Each level has, in the center, the texture showing a climbable wall for that planet, with a bit of terrain off to the side containing some of the enemies of that world. I'll do a quick level-by-level, starting with Bracca: The base level is Bracca, the planet you start on in the game. Some of the features are a Probe Droid (recolored slight mod of the 2022 version), some scrap, and some of the Sarlacc's teeth. Here's Bogano, a planet with bright grass and stone cliffs. The enemies here are two stormtroopers, the base enemies (of course). Here's Zeffo (more specifically, one of the underground tombs). The enemies are two melee scout troopers. Here's Kashyyyk. I tried to crowd a lot onto that tree branch as kashyyyk is not only the first time you see a Purge Trooper, but when you're intoduced to Flame Troopers and fight the Ninth Sister. So the two troopers are on that branch, as well as Ninth sister's hand and arm. Here's Dathomir, using a variety of nougat shades with Dark Red. On the outcropping you've got Taron Malicos. (I don't have a shirtless torso, so he's in the black robe.) Illum. This was a mainly puzzle-based planet with few enemies, so I chose to make the terrain simply have the lightsaber bench and no enemy. Here's some of the Nur base with Second Sister. And finally, Cal Kestis, the protagonist, standing at the top. Let me know what you think of it!

DC Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
It's hilarious and also a bit sad that "guys there will be a plural number of DC sets this half of the year" is massive news for the theme. It'll probably be a bat-vehicle, but I'm hoping for something with Superman and/or wonder woman included alongside it. Given what's been happening with that film, I wonder if we'll ever see that set. -
[M4-22 - Alphabet Fighter] DB-2 C-Wing Starfighter
Mandalorianknight replied to Danny_Boy4's topic in Watto's Junkyard
This is your best one by far. Very nice greebling, and it's cool that you got that function hidden in. You also captured the C shape well. The one thing I would say is that it doesn't really feel like a rebel fighter with the dual cockpits and whatnot. Mostly just a nitpick though, it's still a solid design. -

Looking good, great choice for the bothan head. -
I do not know what you mean in the first part. What margins? The margin of profit? There's pretty clearly a lot less in these accessory packs than in a battle pack, so the margin of profit is assumably higher for accessory packs. And regarding the other blister packs, how is that an argument in favor of what you're claiming? If other sets of this type are also experiencing shortages, it means that it isn't specific to this set like you say in your original post. Now, this set does run out a bit faster than the other blister packs, because people want the clones, but that's nothing but incentive for lego to keep producing it. And no, it's not "futile" to produce a pack if there's great desire for it. It's actually a very clear reason to produce more of the pack. If there's so many people wanting it that there's no way they could produce enough, as you imply, then the obvious response is to produce a ton, since you'd have pretty much guaranteed sales. If there's a lot of demand, then it's econ 101 to produce more of the product. So long as lego is making a profit off it, there'd be no reason to retire it early. (Though it probably will retire by the end of the year, as most blister packs retire earlier than system sets anyway). The idea that a set being really popular would lead lego to retire it early makes absolutely no sense. Let me explain what I believe to be the actual story for why this set's out of stock: People like clones. Accessory packs frequently run out of stock Therefore, this accessory pack with clones runs out of stock very frequently. The fact that it is being restocked (which it is, I just saw a post in another threat about it) is proof enough that they haven't "silently ended production". Which again, if the set is selling well, ending production early would be really stupid. Lego's not that stupid. Exactly. Popular sets sell out fast.
-
I don't think you're quite correct, for a few reasons. Firstly, It's not that the phase 1 battle pack alone is difficult to get. From what I've heard, the Hoth pack and the Batman blister pack are in similar situations. Second, this contains one less figure and fewer parts than the $15 battle packs we had as recently as 2020, so my assumption is that this was a method of shrinkflation already. Even if it wasn't meant for that, they would likely do what they're doing with all the other sets they're worried about inflation of plastic cost on and just increase the price. Finally, sort of tying into that second element, if there is an "insatiable desire" for this set, it would be extremely stupid to retire it early, instead of, y'know, making more of it since it's selling so well. If they're worried about inflation for this one, they could just increase the price. After all, if there's an "insatiable desire", people would pay for it.

[M4-22 - Alphabet Fighter] R-Wing Starfighter
Mandalorianknight replied to Mandalorianknight's topic in Watto's Junkyard
Thanks! Here's a render of all my -wing mocs (except my Y-wing, can't find the file for some reason) in the pink squadron livery, because I was bored and only figured out how to colorswap stud.io builds in the past month. -
Thank you! I went back to add backgrounds to the first renders and realized I missed this comment. The Gunner post and Escape pod are great ideas and definately going to be upcoming mods now, though I'm crunching on a pretty tall physical 12x12, so I might not finish them until after the contest, and as such just post them in the general SW forum. As for the working bombing feature, it pretty much already exists, it'd just be putting different ammo in that bottom trapdoor.

Hoping to squeeze in another entry, but in working on it I came up with an update for one of my current entries. If I swap out one of the figures in my purist minifigures theme with another, fully updating and replacing the images, is that allowed?

LEGO Star Wars 2022 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I agree with most of what you said there, but I disagree about lego only occasionally releasing clones. There was a bit of a scarcity while the new movies were coming out, but we've been getting a nice amount of clones for awhile. From august 2020 to august 2022, we've had/will have 11 new or updated clone troopers (including Cody) in sets, including repeats that's 18 clone troopers in sets in the past 3 years. Now, to be fair, only 2 of those were explicitly army-builders, but still, that's hardly a scarcity. Wow... that's awesome. That's the same price as a CMF guy. I was worried the magazine itself would make the full thing like $8-10, but this should definately bring down BL prices if it only costs people $5 to get it, certainly down from the current $12.5 average price in the US. -

How much do these magazines sell for? Very happy for you fellas in the EU and UK, I'm hoping the increased supply of these guys from the magazine means that us in the states get cheaper ones too. I was confused what you meant, I didn't realize that the original SW pistol mold was A: called a DC-17 on bricklink and B: like 10 times as expensive as the newer pistols. It would be nice if they brought back smaller pistols. The scope on the current main pistol makes it a little too big. -

It's fine, I guess. I've never been a fan of harley or understood why she's so popular, so the fact that we've gotten almost as many harleys as jokers when there are so many great batman villains is starting to irk me, but the hair on this one is pretty good at least. -

Especially because (and correct me if I'm wrong here) Australia only has one lego factory, right? They're not going to be able to produce every set there, so then you have to spend those incredibly high fuel costs (gas is $6 a gallon where I live, I can't imagine how much more fuel costs for a cargo ship to Australia) to get most of the sets over to the continent. Also, why are so many people army-building the tank? I don't get it. The 501st set was $30 with 2 common GAR vehicles and 4 troopers from one of the most popular clone legions, whereas the tank is $40 with a more uncommon vehicle (and not their best version of it, either), and only 3 figures from a non-canon legion. -
@kritch beat me to the punch for making an R-wing, but luckily our ships are pretty different in shape. Anyway, here it is: R-wing in attack position. First time trying to do a special background and lasers. Looks good, right? The R-wing starfighter was developed by the incom corporation and began production shortly after the battle of Endor. Designed with the help of the Mon Cala known as "Quarrie", the R-wing combines aspects of the B-wing starfighter with a more conventional starfighter design. The ship was armed with 2 rotating, double barreled blaster turrets and a small pair of blaster cannons in front of the cockpit. What it lacks in heavy weapons or fast speed, it makes up for in shielding. The R-wing's distinctive "legs" are filled with powerful shield technology, allowing it to not only soak up incredible punishment for a ship of it's size, but to extend it's shield radius to cover a starfighter or warship segment behind it when the "legs" are rotated vertically. Here's the R-wing in cruising/landing position. It rotates via a reinforced 4x4 turntable located in the LBG area between the cockpit and "legs". The R-wing was able to rotate it's "legs" from attack mode for cruising and landing purposes. The turrets were placed at different heights in order for, in emergency situations where the ship is unable to rotate the legs, the turrets can fire forewords without the rear turret firing upon the front one. Here's the back of the R-wing. It doesn't have the most powerful engines, but they can get the job done. Also note the bulge in greenling towards the end of the straight leg, that'll be explained momentarily. The R-wing was equipped with 4 engines behind the astromech socket. The ship is able to reach top speeds comparable to an X-wing and is fairly maneuverable. Due to it's shape, it is extremely cumbersome in atmosphere, to the point that R-wings taking off from in-atmosphere bases were seen as sitting ducks by imperial pilots and gunners. Lots of space was originally taken up by 2x4 bricks within the R-wing, so I carved out a segment for storage. I figure it's small enough that there's still a lot of room for the shielding technology. The R-wing, while a single-seat fighter, did contain a small storage space towards the end of the back leg of the craft. Here is the cockpit and astromech seat. Note the equipment storage behind the seat. The R-wing, like most starfighters, was a single-seater craft with an astromech slot behind the cockpit. Astromechs were uncharacteristically apprehensive about flying in R-wings, supposedly due to the stress on their systems caused by managing and maintaining the craft's shields. Here is the angle where it looks most like the letter R. I tried to keep it where it definately looks like the letter R, but doesn't look so much like it that it fails to look like a starfighter. The designers of the ship, in accordance with unofficial incom nomenclature policy, named the R-wing after it's resemblance to the high galactic letter R. One incom employee was quoted as saying "No, we're not trying to make them look like the high galactic alphabet. We don't know why this keeps happening." Nonetheless, the incom corporation has no fewer than 5 other ships named after high galactic letters available for purchase from their facilities. And one last image, this one with some small modifications: The Rebel Alliance's Pink Squadron used the R-wing's reputation as a sitting duck in atmosphere to their advantage in some scenarios. Imperial troops would let their guard down seeing R-wings take off from atmosphere and move in for the kill, before being torn apart by the seeking missiles embedded in Pink Squadron's R-wings, placed specifically to be fired from the cruising position. As this armament required removal of the shielding technology required to extend shield power to defend ships behind them, this modification wasn't often used in R-wings, but in character with Pink Squadron's infamous bloodthirst, they not only created but were the only full-squad users of this modification. Hope you guys like this one, I think it's my favorite submission so far. I might buy the parts for it.

This is a very nice sort of planetary escape pod type thing, like what Yoda had to escape into orbit. I've been working on an R-wing for a week now and had an absolute panic attack when I read the title considering how good your marvel 12x12 was (you and oky were robbed). While this is really good for the size, there's definately not any overlap between our designs.

Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Yeah, I don't get why people are making fun of this one so much. For a 4-6 year old, that's a perfectly fine AT-ST. And it really does have nice figs. Scout's getting pretty common (which is great, they should be common) but I don't believe we've had any ewoks since the last wicket 3 years ago. And the AT-ST pilot is good too since Lego refuses to put 2 in any of the system sets, so at least this way the BL price decreases. We really don't, do we? Endor feels like just as big and iconic a battle scene as Hoth, and we get so few sets for endor in comparison to hoth. Actually, if you don't count the "action battle" gimmick set, we haven't had an endor set since...2013. Geez.
