Marvel Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I read Captain Falcon and immediately thought "Don't do that. Don't give me hope". Lego ideas won't let me submit a smash bros idea and told me it's unlikely to happen. But yea I'm 100% a believer in the "too much detailing" thing. Lego figures are supposed to look like lego figures, they aren't supposed to have every single bit of detail possible. -
Yeah, I think the designer's comments don't match up with what's shown in sets. Though black as spies/stealth makes sense, it doesn't fit with classic space being overall nonmilitary. Like, I get security, but if you have dedicated spies it's either a full paramilitary organization or you've got some really nasty corporate competitors. I think it really does come down to whatever you want them to be. As for me, I'll keep my head canon of: White: Pilot, Red: Engineering, Blue: Security, Yellow: Communications, Black: Base Command, Orange: Fleet Admiral, Green: Mining/Resource Acquisition, Pink: Medical, LBG: Driver (though I like @Feuer Zug's cadet idea), Purple: robotics
-
I mean they don't "mean" anything, it was just to provide different colors. But that's boring. I've had a similar headcanon to yours, here are my ranks. I try to utilize the rarities, but I keep blue a bit more common just because of how frequent bennies are. White: Pilot Red: Engineer (used to be security, but I like your idea of having an engineer so I've altered these a bit) Blue: security (used to be "mechanic", but again, I liked the engineer idea) Yellow: Comms officer Black: Captain/base commander Orange: Fleet Admiral Green (though we don't have proper helmets yet): Mining/material aquisition Pink: Human Resources. Just kidding... I'll say medical officer We have LBG and Purple torsos, so even though we don't have the corresponding helmets and airtanks, if we get the other parts for them I'd want LBG as a land vehicle driver and purple as a roboticist. In addition, that lego ideas project I've made includes brown, which would be the scientist, and I'm currently asking for what color the Cartographer should be for my next update.

[MOC] 10302 Bumblebee Optimus Prime Alternate Build
Mandalorianknight replied to Ransom Fern's topic in LEGO Licensed
My first thought was "um, that's still optimus prime" before it clicked for me. Very accurate to the movie appearance. I still can't get over that first one, though. -
Dark Gray and Dark Red were my runner-ups, alongside Olive Green. Standard Green already has a figure from the Exo-suit set (even if it doesn't have the proper helmet) and I wanted to do something completely new. Gray and Dark Red are some of the options rendered in my recent update asking for a new spacemen color, so you're welcome to leave a comment on lego ideas with your favored color. (Or just let me know here. Should I mark you down for dark gray or dark red?) Thank you! Yeah, it's not meant to be a 1-1 of the original base (which I felt was rather bland). It's more so there can be a base alongside the galaxy explorer. Yeah, I actually agree. I've smoothed this one out a bit: Not sold on the faces yet. I wanted to replace the red lights with black and yellow stripes, but there wasn't enough room. I also changed the bunks to be more like those on the galaxy explorer (one of my new favorite sets, by the way): As an update, we've gotten over 100 supporters on lego ideas! One hundredth of the way there, and enough to buy us an extra year, only 6 days in! Thank you to everyone who supported the set.

LEGO Star Wars 2022 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
SBDs would make it a huge draw. We haven't had any in 7 years (I think because lego know how easily they were breaking but didn't want to spring for new molds). Also, I think the whole conversation was more conjecture about how much of a figure a B1 is "worth" I may be a youngster, but I studied my 2010 lego star wars visual dictionary, and I would kill for a remake of that pack. -
Marvel Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Armor wars is dead, I think. This annoys me so much. I much prefer War Machine to Ironheart. As much his start is just "being friends with Tony", he does grow into his own more, and I especially liked his lines in endgame about how he does his best despite being crippled. A series that actually gave him stuff to do, and maybe delved more into his injury or even showing him earn the armor and prove he's more than just Tony's friend could be really cool. Unlike ironheart, at least he had some relation to tony. Either way, series or not, I think a war machine mech would do well. He's not as iconic of a character as most of the mechs they've done. but as essentially an iron man suit swap, I think it'd still sell well enough. -
DC Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
One could argue suicide squad and justice league shouldn't have been released theatrically. Plus, suicide squad was pretty early on in the DCEU, before people realized how bad it was gonna get, and justice league was, well, the biggest names in DC. Batgirl really isn't there, vague micheal keaton involvement aside. I could easily see this making morbius levels of money (like how much it actually made, not the 3 morbillion), in which case it's better to kill it now, just so they don't lose money on marketing and finishing the film. Exactly. Joker one was the highest grossing R-rated film of all time, and disconnected from the other DC movies. No matter what some of the odd details about the sequel are, there's clearly something there, and since it's basically an elseworlds story, it won't impact the overall DCEU circumstances like Batgirl would. -
DC Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
I honestly have no idea how they can justify doing this. The star is literally hiding from police RIGHT NOW for crimes that get more and more ridiculous every time I look it up. At first it was *just* attacking and threatening people, then some even worse stuff, and now he's supposedly leading an... a bad group. I don't think nihilism is the overarching theme of the show, I just think it has a casual cynicism and nihilism (like the boys) that I personally can't get behind. I feel like it's the only animation style I ever see for adult oriented animation now. (One of the reasons I love Invincible so much. It's an adult oriented animated superhero show that I think manages to not be edgy or cynical, has a unique animation style, and even has Abraham Lincoln!) That's fair, I don't think nihilism is the overarching theme of the show, I just think it has a casual cynicism and nihilism (like the boys) that I personally can't get behind. On the other hand, I've completely changed my mind about batgirl's cancellation. Everything I've heard about it since looking into it makes it sound like it was gonna be really bad, even by DC standards. So if it was gonna cost them tens of millions to finish and market like they said... yeah, I get it. Honestly, what might be best for DC right now would be a hard reset, so I'll give this Zaslow guy a chance to do so and try to fix this. Plus, this way, we might actually get batman and superman in the justice league! What I think Lego's move should be right now is very general sets. Generic batmobiles, a daily planet building in the style of the 2012 daily bugle, a lex luthor mech, maybe an invisible jet or green lantern construct. If they're only confident in batman vehicles selling, then do batman vehicles, just throw in other popular characters like superman, wonder woman, etc. -
What's your recent LEGO Star Wars Purchase?
Mandalorianknight replied to KimT's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Yeah, @mcphatty's mod is the main reason I'm looking at that set. I'll probably wait for a sale, but it's definately on my list. I feel a bit embarrassed for the designer, someone came up with a superior version (using the same parts and just as stable, so it's not like a typical MOC that looks better than the set but's also 1200 more parts and falls apart if you touch it) before the set even released. I built BD-1 yesterday, highly recommend. It's everything I wanted the set to be. -

Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Yeah, exactly. Only a few of the parts aren't standard, and only some variants have printing. Hence why I say it's roughly a 2-1 ratio of B1 to minifig. Sure, but I wasn't the one who said I wouldn't buy it because of the two summer builds. I finished BD-1 yesterday and it's by far the best statue set. Looks just like the actual droid, is roughly life sized, and you can get such a wide range of emotions out of him just by turning the head and antennae. I highly recommend it. -
DC Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Clearly I've touched a nerve here. What I'll say is that I've seen a fair amount of both shows (as well as TSS), and I stand by my opinion on peacemaker. With Harley Quinn, I meant to say Rick and Morty, and I was talking more about the animation style (it feels to me like every adult oriented comedy from the past 5 years has the same animation style). You're free to disagree, though I didn't realize I'd get dogpiled for not liking those shows. I don't think so, nor do I understand why this is always phrased as DC VS marvel. Lots of casual fans don't even know which is which (I distinctly remember my aunt asking me when Ben Affleck wasn't in infinity war, and no, she wasn't talking about his role in daredevil 2003). And regardless, one's success doesn't doom the other. The companies themselves get along well enough, anyway. That said, marvel is definately mistaking quantity for quality here. It used to be they had 1-3 good projects a year, and now it's... still 1-3 good projects a year, just with a lot of garbage tossed in as well. -
Marvel Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
A friend of mine always said War Machine's superpower was "being friends with iron man" and I think that's pretty accurate. The rest of the low tiers (falcon, black widow, hawkeye, etc) either have borderline superhuman skills or at the very least obtained their technology a different way then beating up their alcoholic friend. But that said, I mean, c'mon! One of the few characters who it makes sense to have a mech for, could have a cool black, gunmetal and trans-red color scheme, and they could go nuts with the weaponry. -

So not a tax dodge anymore? Today's been seriously hectic for DC. Honestly I'm fine with losing those. Haven't seen any of Doom Patrol so I won't pass judgement on that, but what I've seen of Peacemaker feels like one of those needlessly nihilistic The Boys style shows and Harley Quinn feels like a generic Family Guy knockoff. What I want from DC is grounded movies like Batman, fun movies like Shazam, and movies that really sell the scale of the mythology, like the Snyder Cut. Plus this way they can make sets out of most of it (or should be able too.... you'd think the new shazam movie would get a whole wave what with the many colorful heroes and fun tone) Brenden Fraser about to retire from acting forever at this point. -

Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I don't want to wade into the conversation too much, but I'll just say two things: The concept of Santa still exists in Australia, does it not? Combine that with the assumption that the northern hemisphere is a much larger buyer of lego than the southern one (I don't want to call it a fact because I don't have a specific statistic on hand, but it's got to true be, right? No way Africa, SA, and Australia buy as much lego as NA, Europe, and Asia), and I think it's understandable why ACs tend to be themed around a stereotypical northern hemisphere Christmas. And given that they release in september, at least australia has them release when it's colder there! I would say 2 battle droids are equal to one minifig for me in terms of how much of a figure slot I feel they should take. I also think an astromech should be counted as roughly equivalent to a figure, but on the other hand, any droid built out of standard bricks should not take a figure slot IMO. -

You see, this is what I think they should have done. The buildable figures always look best as robots or armored figures, not as humans in spandex. (Also, how have we not gotten a War Machine mech?) Yeah, it was a huge controversy and everything. There's some good videos about it on the TTV youtube channel. -
DC Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHA You'd think it would be less of a financial loss to just finish and release the film at that point. Can't imagine they'd be spending more on post production and marketing than they'd get from sales, even if the movie was awful. With some smart marketing you could play it in a morbius or minions way, and get at least some sales from teenagers being "ironic". Lego seemingly voluntarily cancelled the overwatch set, so if they're being consistent in their standards they'd cancel the flash set of their own accord, or (what I think will happen) we'll see the same build with altered figures and packaging branded as a generic batman set. -

And they had been filming that for awhile, too! I was never really excited for this movie, but the fact that they've just straight up deleted it is mind boggling. Actually... Flash delayed (hopefully cancelled or being re-shot with a new main actor. I'm not generally a fan of that stuff, but when your main guy commits a bajillion violent crimes, what can you do?), Batgirl deleted, Aquaman 2 now supposed to include Batfleck instead of Keaton like previously rumored... Does Keaton want out? I wouldn't blame him after Morbius, it would be totally understandable to not want anything to do with anything superhero or bat related after that! -

The fact that they stand out is precisely why they do this. This was a thing with later bionicle lines such as the ignition trilogy and G2, the infamous "red axles and blue pins" issue. Early bionicle sets had black and gray axles and pins only, which fit a lot better color-wise. Lego apparently decided that kids were getting confused over which pieces were which, hence the fact that you almost exclusively now see 43093 in blue and generally see 32062 in red. (it's also why even length axles (4L, 8L, etc) are black and odd length axles are LBG). The color differences are so kids have an easier time identifying the correct parts. This was never as much of an issue for me with bionicle, since they were biomechanical in nature, but it is more annoying with these guys for sure. (Personally I think 6-12 year olds can figure it out, but I guess lego doesn't want to take that chance). Remember the Hulkbuster, too. 3 D2C's in a single HY if they're all marvel. I think that'd be a record. Honestly I think it is DC. If it wasn't for the Batman's final delay, we would have had ONE set releasing this year, and it was a 4+ set too. Even for DC, that's suspiciously low. EDIT: And yeah, the flash batmobile set that probably got delayed because of Ezra Miller's decision to see how many crimes a single man can commit before getting arrested, but still, 2 sets would be a new low for DC. -

BD-1 arrived today (That's a cool thing pre-ordering gets you, I guess. My Galaxy Explorer that I ordered less than a half hour after it became available is still in warehouse.) I'm only halfway done, but the set is everything I wanted it to be so far. Stable, looks great, has solid articulation, fairly sizable (not to bring up the whole "how tall is BD-1, is he as tall as todo, is todo as tall as yoda" thing again), etc. My one issue is the instructions, and it's really just general annoyance at the new instruction style. The little figure marking progress and the stars every time you complete a chunk are fine (maybe a little out of place in a 14+ set though), but the cover looks pretty bad. Not to mention, I have a lot of pages where the numbers or parts of the build are cut off a bit by the page ending, and one page has some weird printing error where it almost looks like someone spilled ink on it or something. I've never run into these in any other set I've built, so I'm assuming with my giant sample size of 1 that the quality drop has something to do with the new instructions. -

That is one of the best pfps and usernames I've seen on the site. Just had to say that. I think Venom is going to be the best of the three, but I still don't like them. I think we've had a similar discussion in the past, but I still disagree. I'd almost rather bionicle come back as a minifigure scale theme and have the sets completely re-imagined (which would at least allow for locations like Kini-Nui and the six Koros to be better realized) then to have them return as system built figures. I just that iron man and these spider-men are really ugly looking and don't understand the appeal. And as for knights kingdom...I maintain that those are some of the ugliest sets lego's ever produced, and I have no idea why they made them that way when Bionicle was in it's golden era during Knights Kingdom's development. They had already solved the mold issue with things like the Inika build and constraction system. (And even when bionicle had like 20-30 new molds a wave, it was still one of lego's most profitable themes) But anyway, back on topic. I might not like the figure reveals today, but I love that guardians calendar more and more the more I look at it. I'll have to get some sand green arms for drax, I guess I'll give him a black tank top like he wore at the funeral, and then a Ravenger jacket or something for Nebula, but it's great that you get almost the entire team in one middle-priced set. I also love the Rocket Boots for star lord, I always like it when details like that are brick-built (leg printing of course would have been ideal, but this is better than nothing, and it's a cool concept anyway) -

Eh, not great. random little patches of webbing that's missing on most of the arms and legs, some...interesting joint choices, and of course, I don't think anyone was asking for these. The legs are alright, as is the torso (especially if it's got waist articulation), but the arms and feet are pretty rough. All in all, it's not really a nail in the coffin of bionicle's death, but more like spitting on it's grave. The Venom one might be better, we'll see. -

Stayed up until midnight (set released at 11am in my time zone, but it took FOREVER to get into the site, despite my hitting the refresh button the second the clock struck eleven) to get this set, and now it's on it's way! I am very excited, might take a day off to build it and some of my other recent purchases.- 535 replies

This is a Lego Ideas Submission, if you can, please support it here. I originally made this to go alongside the Galaxy Explorer, since 10497, while excellent, lacks the base 497 had. It's not meant as a remake of the base from that set specifically, though, more of just a base in general to go alongside 10497. Once I finished it, I thought it'd be a nice moc to submit to lego ideas. Here you can see all aspects of the base. The skylight and radar on top of the left module, the asteroid defense system on top of the right module, the landing pad and scout ship, the lunar rover and charging bay, and the 5 spacemen united once more, this time alongside a new brown spaceman. Another view of the full set, just cleaned up a bit, with the scout ship and rover docked. This part of the interior contains a console for the radar scanner and a material analysis bay. The clear 1x2x2 panels are on hinges and can open to place a crystal for analysis. The other side of this module contains a pair of robotic arms for further material experimentation, as well as a tool rack for wrenches, comms, and "flashlights". Totally not blasters. The other module contains, on one side, the controls for the emergency asteroid defense system, as well as a kitchen area. The kitchen area is stocked with a hot/cold liquid dispenser, and some different types of food. Finally, the other side of the small module contains a sleeping area for the spacemen. Here they can hang their air tanks by their pillow and drift off to sleep. If you like this, I hope you'll be able to take a few seconds and support it quickly on lego ideas, again, here
