LEGO Star Wars 2024 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
It was pointed out to me that this sort of thing is sort of missing the forest for the trees- when you're arguing against "Fives is literally so bad I can't recognize him", you miss the legitimate points being made about quality issues. So I'm going to quickly run through a lot of the complaints/issues more generally and try to give rational thoughts in response to rational arguments Helmet Holes: This is the one I view most as a non-issue, and where it being a lego figure, not an action figure, comes in. Of course everything's subjective, but for a children's building toy, the ability to build different figures is more important than Black Series detailing. Having helmet holes on the heads allows for accessories to be attached, and having them on all clones not only increases consistency, but allows kids to make custom clones much more easily. This one feels like one where at the end of the day, it's a building toy, and customizability is going to come first. Again, dislike what you want, but if the helmet holes are your dealbreaker, action figures might be a better choice for you to collect. Kamas: Countering that is the one I view as most reasonable in regards to the clones. A relatively small number of characters have kamas in-universe, so taking the bit of extra budget to dual-mold the legs or do side leg printing seems reasonable, especially when considering it's half the character's legs, not just a bit of detail. It's not a dealbreaker for me- I have a number of the 501st officer, and I'll get Fives and Rex when their sets release this year, but it is one where I really understand the argument. This is one I'd sign a petition about - granted it wasn't phrased as a demand like a lot of this stuff. 2014 style vs 2020 style: this one's subjective. I prefer the 2020 style, because I prefer the clone wars cartoon to the actual prequel films, so I like my clones to be like they are- the clone wars stylization only annoys me with faces, not helmets. That said, there's nothing wrong with preferring the 2014 style, which is a lot more accurate to ROTS. It's all down to preference. What I will say is at this point it's pretty clear the 2020 style is what they're going with, so while there's nothing wrong with "I still prefer how they looked in 2014", it is something you just have to take at this point, as it's not really a quality issue and more of a stylistic choice. Lack of print by fin: While I still don't like that people sort of latched onto this for fives when it's been happening since the new mold, this is something they have been able to do in the past. While the majority of figures even with the older P2 mold have this issue, there are a few exceptions like that Kashyyyk trooper they used so frequently. P1 clone pilots and the old, hole-for-visor clone helmet also are able to print right up to the fin. So overall, I agree, yeah, this is something they should be working on fixing. This is the last response I'm going to make about this, but I highly doubt the most of the people making these comments are children in terms of lego's posted age range on these sets. "kids" when compared to middle-aged men, sure, but if you look at the accounts of most of these people, they're in their late teens/early 20s. Very, very few children aged 6-12 have reddit accounts. -
I haven't kept up a ton with the show, but I think you're right. Though if so, putting the Core student in instead of Jay/Zane/Cole/Arin/Sora is a weird move. I guess it's POSSIBLE it's from season 2, and just takes place before the ninja get their mech pilot suits, but that's a heck of a stretch- and I don't even know if Master Lloyd will be canon.

Ok c'mon man this is just absurd. This all speaks to my wider point. When everyone complains about the slightest issue like it's so bad you can't even tell who it's supposed to be, more legitimate issues like the extreme pricing of some sets, or even other figure based issues like the kamas, get lost in the shuffle. I know if I was in charge of the fig designs, I'd be a lot more invested in fixing the kama issue if it was the main issue people had, rather than constantly hearing "WE NEED NO HELMET HOLES ON EVERY FIGURE WITHOUT AN ANTENNA OR VISOR AND WE NEED EVERY LEGION BUT EVERY LEGION LOOKS TERRIBLE AND THESE ARE THE WORST FIGURES LEGO'S EVER MADE THEY'RE SO BAD I CAN'T EVEN TELL WHO THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE" filling every social media comment section and forum. We know lego listens to fans on a lot of this stuff- look at how many clones we've had over the last 4 years. Look at the fact that the battle packs went back to "real" blasters instead of stud shooters for the characters. We're getting P2 Rex in a $13 set, and he has arm printing, as does Fives. If they were hearing concentrated "we need better kamas", I think there'd be a much better chance of getting at the very least dual molding or side leg printing, as compared to right now, where there's a billion different "campaigns" to "fix" every aspect of clones, half of which are non issues. -
You should see invincible's reddit right now, it's another full-blown Aslume. The virus seems to just spread to anything not getting good new content soon. So yes, we are stupid. Why didn't lego call the justice league to help? Are they also stupid? Batman: no two man's land. ANYTHING involving Jon was a stupid idea, imo.

Marvel Superheroes 2024 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Dude we get like 2 DC sets a year and they're just increasingly expensive batmobiles with man and jonkler, let us have this. Yeah there's been enough time since the black panther bust that I don't think they're gonna make a gamble like that again. Especially when the marvels was underperforming compared to Morbius in some places. The big D2Cs have to be based on the most iconic characters, and- let's not forget the hulbuster didn't really fly off the shelves either- LOOK GOOD, and likely also have a number of figures. -

First off, and I know you said printing so this one's more about all the fives complaints in general, everyone's harping on the helmet, and I find it hilarious, because Fives actually DOES use a more standard P2 helmet for a good chunk of the clone wars show. I also forgot this, but to be fair, I wasn't crying about how inaccurate it was. As for the printing, I also really don't understand this. Every clone lego's produced has shown that they can't print that close to the fin. Look at literally every trooper they've done with this mold. The 332nd trooper, where it should be over that entire area, or even troopers like the 501st trooper where the printing should go all the way up to the fin but doesn't. It'd be nice if lego figured a way around it, but it's not really out of the ordinary when it comes to lego clones. They always have that, and I feel like people are just harping on fives more because they want the fives figure to be terrible, so it can fit the whole "lego hates clones and prequel fans" nonsense MandR and his clones like to pretend is a thing. Really the only thing you can get the Fives figure on that isn't- a: Actually accurate to the character or b: something that all clones with this helmet mold have and no one cared about until fives- is that the printing for that curved bit above his eyes is a little wonky. And I feel like when "the curved bit above his eyes is a little wonky" translates to "his helmet looks like a printing error", you've got to take a step back for a minute. -

As others have pointed out, these really don't seem to have increased the prices of their respective sets. Tantive IV is good value part wise (and ESPECIALLY figure wise) even without Fives, and R2 is that $100 price point many of the buildable characters have been at. "Lego should just give us stuff for free" is kind of a wild take and not at all how companies work (Also, it's Fives, not Jesse.), but these sets are good enough value that it's essentially what it is. And if your argument is literally speaking that they should just distribute these figures individually for free.... dude. That's not really how economics works in any capacity. The "good will" or whatever from your customers is not offsetting the cost of designing, producing, and distributing a product. It's why lego's "freebies" are price-gated- they act as incentives to purchase more sets. So aside from the 4 new printed parts- including an arm-printed torso- and also the printed cloth, there's only two new prints. Also, they're grunts, who don't look all that different in the movie when we're talking about the level of detail lego puts on faces, and they have double sided faces, so if you're really that annoyed, just rotate one of the heads 180 degrees. This isn't exactly like if they gave Luke and Han the same face print or something. I swear I see MORE complaints about these sets that are generally pretty solid value than I do the overpriced ones. -

While that head was also used in the yavin set, they did make a new chinstrap head for it- this one. Exactly. While it would of course have been better if they had more new prints, this feels the same as all the complaints about the clone trooper vs droids battle pack in that it's nitpicks on one of an increasingly small proportion of SW sets that are actually solid value in terms of number of figs and parts for the price. -

Eh, we just got the new chinstrap head in the Yavin set- I'm fine with the fig's faces representing the soldiers on the Tantive. I'm interested to see how much Fives goes for on bricklink. Malak will likely be $20-30 minimum, since he's in a more expensive set not a lot of people are excited for, and is the only minifig in that set besides the $1 R2. Fives is a weird case though- he's a highly desirable figure in a set not related to him, but the set itself is relatively cheap, contains one of the best cost/fig ratios in a non-battle pack SW set, and is based on one of the most iconic opening scenes in film history. I'm sure he'll be something like $20 at first, but I could honestly see him selling for under $10 after a few months. -
Reeves has spoken about Mr. Freeze if I remember correctly, so I wouldn't be surprised if it is the cool version of Clayface. Though I still want the Court of Owls as the villain for the third film. I'm not the biggest fan of this particular franchise, but it feels like the themes and setup are tailor-made for the Court. I expected what I thought was the worst for this most recent wave and I was STILL disappointed. At this point my assumption for every set is now "giant buildable batman gauntlet with no figs" And then the only figures are Batman, Jonkler, and Klarion the Witch-Boy.

This isn't going to be even close to being on-topic, but a daredevil hallway scene set would be AWESOME. One of my favorite things about the show were those massive, no-cut hallway fights with practical effects. I watched his scenes from she-hulk, and the fact that they set him up for a hallway scene but then don't do it to make a joke is pretty emblematic of the show's treatment of Matt as a whole. To try to be a little on topic, the obvious next hallway scene is Maul, right? Lego loves spamming clones, and that scene's got 3 different types. If they wanted to add desirability for fig collectors they could even throw in Jesse, even if it's not accurate- make it a much more direct parallel to this hallway set. You place the figures on the 1x2 jumper tiles, and turning the knobs move small levers to knock them off. It's a cute little battle scene thing. I always try to pick up the sets that have reasonable prices/figure counts ASAP, while waiting for discounts or just not buying more overpriced ones. Tantive IV set is near-perfect. Figs are great, fig count is great, set looks really nice, etc. I will be modifying it to remove the technic knobs- they're a great play feature, they just stick out a bit- but this is a Day 1 buy. R2 is better than it could be, but I still think it's too soon- 3 years for a set with a UCS plaque to rerelease is nuts. It's a fine set, seems alright for the price, but I just don't see why we need another UCS R2 after 3 years. I do hope Malak isn't going to be as expensive on BL as I think he will. -

Prowl would be another cool one, and Grimlock feels like he's for sure going to be one of the next 3-4 transformers they do. I really believe we'll see a "cybertronian" tank megatron, but if we don't, I agree Soundwave would be the next most likely 'con. Immensely popular, a primary decepticon, and the cassettes give him a major boost to playability+ the opportunity for an expansion pack. I agree G1/Evergreen should be the main focus, though I think a Bayverse Prime or if they were somehow able to do a beast wars Primal/Megatron would do well. Jazz is a good shout- Optimus's lieutenant, and a pretty cool character in his G1 style. I don't know how they'd pull off Devastator without either making it completely out of scale with Prime or somewhere near $1000. Astrotrain and Blitzwing would also be nigh-impossible to make triple-changers out of, but they would be cool. -

I honestly would love that more than most of the other suggestions- that was such a wild and cool part of the movie. I liked solo, but it played it pretty safe, and that moment where it went NUTS was crazy. If it's not just nonsense, my guess is the part list leaked, sort of like last year's september sets. It would explain why the only things we know are the figure and # of eyes- which could easily be the only printed elements, and therefore the easiest thing to discern when looking at the part list. I've been trying not to get my dislike for Lifebrick's business model/internet personality in the way of the info, but I think I'm overcorrecting- realistically I think he's had one thing that panned out. -
I gotta say man, I've got a massive gripe with this alt build... ....you're gonna make me drop another $80 so I can get a second copy of the set to make this! Your alternate/multi builds are always excellent. I'm pretty tempted to build this one, though- I'm a sucker for Mandalorian builds and this is an excellent fang fighter. It honestly looks like the intended build of the set.

Which begs the question, with all these keaton batman sets, why not a single reeves superman set? It's very clear lego does not believe non-batman DC sets will sell. It's possible Gunn's DC manages to convince them to do superman tie-ins, but that's a risk for us fans. If those sets fail, we are never seeing lego DC sets for characters besides batman.
-
It brought me back into the theme- I don't have the money or space for a full ninjago collection, but I couldn't say no to a $10 set with the newest Jay and a Sensei version of Lloyd. And I think come this set's release, I'll probably end up getting it- having the three main new characters in a single $15 set is too good to pass up.

Pretty much zero- it's pretty clearly going to be an A New Hope based set, and we already know the anniversary fig isn't him. -
Would you have thought an Indiana Jones movie would flop? Or a flash movie heavily featuring Micheal Keaton's batman? Or a significant chunk the MCU over just a few years? At the end of the day, the MCU is still the MCU, even with it's steep decline. Marvel sets are always going to sell on some level by virtue of being marvel- that same apparently can't be said for non-batman lego DC in lego's eyes, since we haven't gotten any since 2020. 1) How DARE YOU, good sir, suggest that Morbius could even be in CONVERSATION with any of these films. It is the single greatest media product of all time. 2) Your general point is totally right- it's definitely a contender for the worst MCU movie (and arguably I'd put the Daredevil movie above a couple of those), but there are some movies that go far lower than "soulless CGI fest" and are somehow significantly worse. I didn't HATE it, but you can count me in as someone who doesn't really like the direction that movie went towards the end.

Mandalorianknight replied to NoOneOfImportance's topic in LEGO Licensed
Yup- those are exactly the ones I was looking at. I don't want to let myself hope for both, but you never know. Though the codename being "vehicle" would solidify that neither of them are transformers one based. 10337 would be another one around optimus's size- I could still see G1 megs, but evergreen scale is variable enough with this franchise that it could be pretty much any voyager-leader class autobot or decepticon. If this is the transformer, we can pretty much only rule out Bumblebee, Arcee, and other smaller autobots. (Cliffjumper with middle finger articulation when?) 10335's piece count being unknown widens that even farther, since it could be Bee or Arcee. Getting two a year would be excellent, since it'd at least let us get each side's most popular 4 or 5 characters within a reasonable timeframe. Also, not to keep harping on my belief that they won't be for transformers one (And I want to side note- I still have hopes for that film despite how monumentally dumb the fact they can't transform for most of it feels to me. A lot of the pre-war cybertron stories have been excellent), but we didn't get anything to tie-in with the live action movie last year- so while it's possible 2024's transformer(s?) releases near the film as a bit of connective marketing, I highly doubt the set was produced as a tie-in. Which transformers do you guys want to see in general, say, your 5 most wanted for each side? Autobots: Bee, Arcee, Ratchet, Wheeljack, and either Elita or Jetfire. (Though I think Grimlock is more likely than the last couple there). I also wouldn't mind Prowl, and Ironhide would be nice, though since he'd essentially be a Ratchet recolor I'd prefer the above. Decepticons: Megatron, Soundwave, Starscream, Shockwave, and... the cons don't have as many iconic g1 type designs as the autobots. I wouldn't want and don't think lego would sell a recolor unless it was some sort of exclusive, which rules out Skywarp and Thundercracker. I'm gonna go with a mix of the bayverse and G1 aesthetics and say Brawl or Blackout depending on what they make megs (I do honestly think they'll bend the tank policy here, even if they sci-fi em up a bit- it's not fig-scale, not going to accurately resemble a specific tank, and is very clearly a transformer). Blitzwing would be absolutely incredible to see, though I wonder if that's even possible to do in lego at this scale. -

Mandalorianknight replied to NoOneOfImportance's topic in LEGO Licensed
Unfortunately, from what I've heard, while these are both licensed, they're also both aimed at girls, and one is a netflix property. I know Elita's actually been getting some focus over the past 5 years or so, but I still can't see anyone at lego marketing transformers as a theme aimed at girls. I still think we're getting Icons Megatron/Bumblebee/Soundwave, but we'll see. I'd be happy to be wrong about it continuing under the Icons theme- if it becomes it's own theme, that would imply much more is on the way- but I do truly hope it's not transformers one focused, both for my personal preference and because I think Transformers's best bet is G1 sets. (Most iconic designs, translate easiest to lego form, actually transform, and the designs show up in plenty of newer media, like the WFC trilogy or Skybound comic) -
It doesn't look bad. Same here about getting it- I don't have any Dragons Rising stuff aside from the Jay Mech, but a $15 set with the three main new characters? Instant buy. 100% agree. A molded Riyu at this size would not only not look like a lego set, but can you imagine how little articulation it would have? I actually believe the exact same thing about the larger dinosaurs. The heads and maybe the limbs are a little complex to get good detail on, but half those torso/tail pieces are pretty simple and could EASILY be brick-built without compromising the look much. And at the end of the day, it's lego. It's supposed to be brick-built, not giant molded parts. It's a building system, not an action figure. There are plenty of dinosaur toys with much more detail than lego can achieve even with the molded parts.
