LEGO Star Wars 2024 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Not to minimod, but I think everyone really needs to calm down. There's nothing wrong with disliking a project, and you can't really say one project or trilogy is objectively worse/better than another. Everyone can have their own opinions about what's most deserving of more sets, but no one can objectively state that x project is more deserving of sets than y project. Brickset has a list, but it seems like it's more speculative on their part based on around how long sets of that size run, rather than any confirmed info. I'd wait until later in the year to start buying your extra copies, unless you're really worried about a specific set. -
There are 3 sets with minifigs besides the skyline. Given 3 of the fig slots will be taken by batman, and unless one of those three sets is a batcave or something else big, there's likely 7-8 fig slots MAX across them, I honestly only think we see 1 or two characters not in the skyline- Phantasm and Freeze, since they've been hinted at. I honestly think that would be a good thing- putting the more unique villains in the system sets gives kids (and adults who don't want to shell out hundreds on the skyline) a chance at getting them. Assuming it'd have been the same number of new prints either way, I think getting new designs and figures in the cheaper sets is an absolute positive for the theme. This is my actual guess (I am not making a jonkler joke here, this is legitimate): Skyline: Batman, Jonkler, Harley, Catwoman. Buildible Figure: Batman buildible figure, no minifigs. Batwing Battle: BTAS Batwing and some sort of jonkler vehicle with Batman, Jonkler, and Phantasm. If we're lucky, Robin, Batmobile: BTAS Batmobile with Batman and a re-used villain from the skyline- we'll say Catwoman. Bat Cycle vs Mr. Freeze: Batman and Mr. Freeze.

Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
Sorry to everyone saying the thread is done, I have to reply to this because man, this is just objectively not how IP works. Disney has a copyright on indiana jones. Other companies cannot make Indiana Jones media unless disney allows them to. Alright this is gonna be the last time I post in this thread, but look man. Doubling down on how concretely you believe new sets are coming, when new sets aren't coming, doesn't actually make them more likely. The sets are not coming. Dial of Destiny's streaming numbers- which aren't anything spectacular by the way- won't make lego decide to produce another line of sets. The theme is, for the time being, over. I have no more ways to explain this to you. Maybe we'll get an Icons set in a few years if we're lucky, but the indiana jones lego theme is dead, and with lucasfilm actively stepping away from new indy content, and as such there being no plans for a new film or show, it's unlikely to return anytime soon. -

It's pretty well-documented that lego destroys the physical molds after a few years without being used (I don't think they've ever given the exact time, but looking at some times I'd say it's probably around 5 years in general, but I doubt it's a blanket "if a part is unused for 5 years we scrap it"). However, you are right that they could still re-make it. I believe Mark Stafford said something a year or two ago to the effect that so long as they had the CAD files for the part somewhere, "no one's ever really gone", hence the return of the goat mold, and the gamorrean. That said, if the physical mold is destroyed, the cost to re-introduce it is the same as a "new mold", so there's no cost to improving/altering the part in the CAD files before remaking the mold. This is assumably what they did with the SBD torsos (and arms? I've heard the arms are very slightly changed but I can't see it myself). While the leak was almost certainly fake (There's really no way to verify it, either. Even if the set releases with the 2013 max rebo head, someone could still just have taken their old max rebo and pretended it was a leak), I wouldn't be surprised if some level of production had started. We've had legitimate figure leaks a good few months before a set's release date before. -
Lord of the Rings Ongoing Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Momotof's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
That's of course part of it, but I'm assuming another benefit to having the parts more spaced out and able to jostle around is so they have that freedom of movement while the box is transported, rather than all being packed tightly against one another, which might help reduce scratching/bending/damage/etc. -

I'm not deflecting criticism of the sequels- I HATE TLJ, and don't like the other two much either. (Though it is funny to me you seem to imply here that the prequels are some higher quality of media.) But it is ACTUALLY true that when the new movies release, people look back on the older one more fondly, especially if they were younger upon release. It's not just star wars (though seriously. Ewoks in ROTJ, all of the prequels, THE CLONE WARS CARTOON- at least it's early seasons, etc.), the same is true of things like Micheal Bay's Transformers and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man. Both are franchises heavily panned but now seen in a higher light as the generation that grew up with them reaches adult hood, and subsequent reboots have released. (Even if the reboot is generally liked, like MCU spider-man) The fact that someone was 5 when they watched Bayformers doesn't make it any less awful, but it does mean there's a lot more clamor for more studio series figures of Micheal Bay designs. The same will likely hold true of the sequels. Give it a few years, and we'll see. And yeah, no bricks sherlock, it's not a constant line. The prequels were hated until the time the sequels came out- much of the media chatter around TFA was how it was trying to avoid the mistakes of the prequels and how it did things like return to more practical effects rather than CGI overuse. That's 16 years between TPM and TFA, and I'd argue people didn't start going "no but the prequels are actually good trust me bro" until around The Last Jedi. TFA isn't even a decade old yet. No need to apologize, it's pretty hard to avoid triggering multi-page debates online. We just had one about what color an MTT we have no actual evidence is coming would be a few pages ago. But you can probably remove my quote from your signature soon- we're likely only a few weeks away from that Malak minifig leaking and saving me from having to eat a plushie. -
Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

That's not a bad modification, and a pretty sweet mechanism. It speaks to the unfortunate comparative lack of interest in the theme. Indy's a great film franchise, but as a college student right now- the majority of my campus hasn't seen the films. If early 20-somethings haven't seen em, I doubt the current Ipad generation's watching them. I will say I do believe Turtle is legitimately just really trying to find a way that the theme isn't dead, but yeah. It might be time to brick the thread. I'm sorry, man, but there's no way this is the case. They're completely different sets, marketed to different age ranges, with different figures, overall shapes, action/play features, etc. They're no more likely to overlap than any two star wars ships of similar sizes. The reason it was cancelled doesn't matter- IT WAS CANCELLED. IT IS OVER. You've got to let the Grail go... -

Yeah I'd never heard of the max rebo leak before, but given how long it's been, I highly doubt we'd see an exact copy of the mold/print. Not to mention that's an incredibly easy leak to fake- you just take a photo of the part and then lie. I don't believe so, but a large number of survey sets have been confirmed by either lego or reliable leakers, so I assume it is coming, it's more a question of when. IIRC some of those sets are supposedly 2025. -

100% true. Of course you can't compare the two exactly- no two things are the same- but it's the same general concept of "new thing bad until newer thing comes around and is worse". I can't wait for when (If, to be honest) the Rey movie releases and everyone talks about how she was characterized better in the sequels and the threat of Darth Spooky undoes Ben Solo's sacrifice. Exactly. I wasn't a fan of book of boba, but I'm not gonna be sad if they announce season 2- I want to see Boba and Fennec's stories continue, even if I didn't like where they went in the show. This is pretty heavily off-topic, so the only thing I'll say on the "Prequels vs sequels" debate is "No, I swear, the new one is a soulless cash grab, the old one(s) was/were made with genuine vision" has been said since 1980. -
Wishlist: Future Star Wars Sets and Minifigures

Generally speaking, any mold that hasn't been in a set for- I don't think the exact time is known, but it seems to be about 5 years- is destroyed. Watto hasn't been seen since 2015, ergo- mold is gone. I honestly think we have a shot at wolfpack troopers, though TBH I only shoved Wolffe into the BP so he'd be in one of the wave's sets. I'm sure lego would throw him in whatever other prequel set they were doing that wave (like the MTT) regardless of whether or not it's strictly canon. Seventh Sister was really just because she's the most prominent inquisitor we don't yet have (At least if we discount the games), but I agree, Rebel Kallus is pretty likely. Ryder might be a shout too "boring", as much as I'd like him, but then again, I'd have thought child leia was too boring as well. For $35 I think 2 figs and 2 droids is fairly likely- remember that B1s don't seem to "count" as full figures in lego's eyes. You bring up a good point about the clones- I'd assumed younger kids were just as into the clones as I was as a kid, but they weren't born in the midst of the prequels. Though it wouldn't be the first time a juniors set/figures baffled me- as much as I love wedge, if you're young enough to need 4+ sets instead of system ones, you don't know who he is. I would normally do an ESB falcon- I've been thinking every summer since 2021 that we'd be getting an ESB falcon next summer- but since it's the 25th anniversary I figured it'd be nice to have a set with the main cast of the original film. -

REGARDLESS OF WHAT'S HAPPENENING WITH THE FRANCHISE (even though they HAVE publicly stated Lucasfilm is shifting focus back away from it and other non Star Wars properties, and the only project coming is a game), the theme is over. Doesn't matter whether or not lego/disney/lucasfilm was right to cancel the temple of doom set, THEY DID. We've had the discussion of why it might have been since before april 2023. It doesn't matter. The set's not coming. I dunno, but if there were sets coming, lego would have released them around the time the movie came out. A kid who saw indy 5 last june may have been interested in indy 5 sets... last june. Whatever lego's reasoning was (assumably they were able to see it was going to bomb and didn't want to risk sets for an unpopular film), they made their choice. There are no Indy 5 sets coming. There are no more indiana jones sets at all coming. That isn't to say it'll never again happen, but for the time being, the theme is dead. Seriously man. -

Mandalorianknight replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
Dude, stop trolling the turtle guy. @legoturtle, just a heads up before you see the other guy's info- the piece is the one that already leaked and we already discussed. The "June set list" is a referral to a list of sets rumored to be for June 2023. It's been known for a good number of months that those sets were either cancelled or never existed in the first place. The theme is over, there's no new info. There is nothing wrong with holding out hope, but unless there is actual new information on the sets, there's nothing left to discuss in this thread. -
Thank you for using Jonkler's correct name, but c'mon. It's lego DC. Potential, prepare to be squandered! We'll get the only three figures we regularly get (Batman, Jonkler, HQ), probably a Robin, and if we're lucky, Phantasm and 1-2 other mainstay villains in the skyline. If we get a villain besides Jonkler or Harley in the system sets I'd regard it as an incredible victory for Man's universe. The prophecy has been fufilled. Is there a lore reason lego only releases Man and Jonklr figures? Why don't they call the lego justice league? Are they stupid? Go back and check the marvel and dc 2023 threads, we made a good number. @Clone OPatra, I know you just renamed the thread, but we need "Man 2024 - Rumors and Discussion" ASAP! Jokes aside, that is honestly how it feels when it comes to the management of this theme. I understand it on some level- play it safe. Batman and Jonkler focus. Bat-vehicles. Sure. But you're telling me your marketing guys think it would actively be worse for you if Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, etc were in the sets too? You don't think those would help them sell? The $50 batmobile is warmin shelves at my local walmart, and I honestly think even just one other fig could have helped significantly.

Hiding spoilers was certainly an issue in terms of what figures we got, but the sets and figs we did get are excellent IMO. Lego always goes all out and gives higher budgets to things tying into films, and while I'm sure recent commercial failures of films have hurt that, this is a star wars movie- a MANDALORIAN movie no less. I think this'll be the first time since Fall 2019 that we get a full wave dedicated to a single source- The Mandalorian and Grogu. Totally agree- I think the Chimera needs to happen, especially with the news of season 2 and that the next mando saga film is Mandalorian and Grogu as opposed to Filoni's Heir to the Empire one- means they'll have enough of a gap where they can put something chimera related out for that film too. I honestly think a mandalorian and grogu story is one of the best choices for a movie right now (I feel the same way about Mando S3 and hope this is a directional change. Just do a fun standalone about them hunting an imperial warlord). As for the TPM N-1, I still feel that being yellow instead of silver and having a vulture droid packaged with it should be different enough from Mando's N1 to secure a slot for both within a year or two of eachother. -

Her character arc in that trilogy is one of the best in fantasy fiction, absolutely no bones about it, it was incredible. I still get chills with how they managed to conclude her destiny in that trilogy- It's one of the few projects I wouldn't mind them trying to adapt 1:1, and a big part of that is Mara's character arc being so strong. Cal's excellent, but if you haven't gotten to Merrin yet (who I don't believe shows up until 3/4 of the way through Fallen Order), I get why you don't see anything special. I loved him from the start, but he's fairly basic until you reach his dynamic with her, which leads into most of his growth in both games and other media. Galen is the most standard of the three on the surface level, but the effort Sam Witwer puts in the role really elevates it for me. He puts everything he's got into some of those cutscenes, and hearing him talk in behind the scenes stuff about how meticulously he went over how each scene fed starkiller's character (the meditation thing is so cool- the director didn't get why he was meditating so tense, and he explained Vader wouldn't have taught him to meditate, so he'd just be doing how he thought it would work, and being sith-trained, he'd be completely failing at finding inner peace) brings him above "incredibly strong but generic character" in my opinion. I'll defend Mara and Galen to the end, but while I think they're iconic and better characters than Aphra (Not that Aphra's bad, but Mara and Galen are ones I'd personally consider some of the best characters in all of legends), I won't lie, Aphra may be a more interesting design than TFU1 Galen at least. She'd definitely benefit from duel molding and arm printing, if they'd give that to her, and a new helmet wouldn't be bad either, though she could use the aviator one. Galen is a pretty standard sith styled outfit, and I think he'd really require some excellent facial expressions showing his sheer anguish and power, as well as blast effects, to be seen as "worth it" for some fans. Mara I'd personally say would be fairly unique and visually interesting from the pink saber and flowing red hair alone, but if they wanted to be more distinct, the hat/goggles and cape she has in some media could add that. I would take the M name idea. All of them (save maul, though I wouldn't mind rebels maul) are cool characters/designs we either haven't gotten before, or in starkiller's case, the figure we did get is very rare and outdated. I understand- and I should have specified her being legends in the game is what makes it more of a thing than just any character. Obviously no one's straining for Old Daka or Dathcha (That said, who's to say we haven't already had him?) -
What's your recent LEGO Star Wars Purchase?
Mandalorianknight replied to KimT's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Welp, I'm becoming the very thing I swore to destroy and now have 5 of the new battle pack- 1 from a Kohl's in chicagoland, one from a walmart in another state, and three purchased online. I actually made a couple purchases recently- I got a chunk of change out of nowhere, and I decided I'd spend a fraction of it on legos. Local walmart had the AT-TE for $112, so picked up that, the aforementioned copy of the new battle pack, and a copy of the 332nd pack for $16 (Which walmart listed as a sale from $27, which.. sure, walmart. Sure.). They also had a Galaxy Explorer for $65, and I'm tempted to go grab em. -

Eh, it depends. They added a ton of no-names at launch to fill out the roster, but if a character shows up without a recent product, it means either they really fit with a needed mechanic (Iden and having a home for imperial troopers outside the main squad, for example, or Sana Starros with the leftover CLS reqs), or they're a fairly fan-requested character. If you look at Mara's release, she was part of the Starkiller Journey, who's characters were essentially a greatest hits of legends (Mara, Kyle Katarn, Darth Talon- which I personally don't see but a certain subset of fans love the character-, Dash Rendar, and Galen himself). So TLDR I should have clarified- presence in the game alone doesn't mean much about the character, but given that she's one of a small number of legends characters in the game and the way she was added, it's certainly evidence of the enduring fan love for the character. Actually yes I 100% think Aphra would be a good choice for an anniversary slot- a character who's had a lot of play over the past decade or so but is unlikely to fit in any sets anytime soon. Trip and Betee may have been better examples to use for characters in the game who wouldn't be good anniversary slot choices, but again- they're clearly there to fill out the Aphra squad and reqs, which were just characters Aphra knew and then their opportunity to unleash Hondo. (Ironically I'd say Hondo would be another good option here) -

They have done Hot Rod and Blue Steel in the most recent system tower. If we're talking comic suits, the Superior Armor would be awesome and a unique color scheme. No clue- they say it's due to it's capacity to reach high speeds, which, sure, in-universe Tony made this well before XXVII, but out of universe it'd have been nice to keep it consistent with the colors. -

Yes, correct. Malak and Fives- if we don't get Boss Nass and Saw- take slots that could be used for those characters. They take slots from the three I mentioned as well. The difference is they are fan favorite characters with very interesting designs from some of the most fan-loved projects in the saga, whereas young leia is a small child in plainclothes from a mediocre show, one of which the character has countless more interesting designs. Why not Boushh Leia? And-I assume it's Mara and Galen you're talking about- Mara and Galen are overrated? I wrote PARAGRAPHs on Mara awhile back, but I'll summarize here- Don't even think about her being Luke's wife. Completely take every aspect of what she does in the NJO off the table. And you still have a breakout character with a major role in the Thrawn Trilogy, the novels that brought star wars back into the spotlight. One who appears in countless stories as the emperor's hand, a great example of a way to do a sympathetic villain who's still very much loyal to the emperor in early stories, and who's design still appears today in things like the mobile game SWGOH. Starkiller is a shining example of what you can do in legends in terms of powerhouses that wouldn't fit in mainline films. The visual of him pulling a star destroyer OUT OF THE SKY is iconic, and unlike many characters that are criticized for being too powerful/learning too quickly, he has the very interesting nerf of being extremely mentally unstable. Sam Witwer's spoken on this before but the detail he put into things like Starkiller not knowing how to meditate, etc, are incredible. They're certianly both more deserving of anniversary figs than Galen, who's an interesting character for what he is but he's just a scientist with a few scenes in one film, not a legends icon like the other two. -

Malak is making me look at that R2 a lot more than I want to... Fives is securing that boarding set a second copy to do an expansion for. Young leia is actively a negative for me for whatever set she's in due to the opportunity cost of including almost anyone else. If we don't get Mara, Cal, or Galen because of her, I'm gonna lose it. -

I honestly respect this a lot more than the other options (scalping the sealed sets being the worst, followed by buying that many just to have before it's even out). This contributes to the secondhand economy a fair bit by putting the figs on the market, driving the shock trooper BL price down, etc. I still hope it's young leia so we can get the more interesting figs in the sets, but man would I love a Jedi Bob or Rebel Friend. -

I'd put money on this, an MTT, Naboo fighter, or some combination of the above coming, though I think we could see this one almost exactly (Just Child Anakin or Obi-Wan instead of Watto- the mold is gone and I don't see them making a new one for a fig only tangentially related to the set) This is my prediction for the august wave Wolfpack troopers battle pack ($19.99): 3x wolfpack trooper, Commander Wolffe, and an AT-RT build. Anniversary set: Anakin Skywalker's Jedi Starfighter ($29.99): Anakin Skywalker's Delta-7 with anakin skywalker, R2-D2, and anniversary figure Mara Jade (The Thrawn Trilogy) Republic Gunship $34.99 (Juniors): Captain Rex, 1x Shock Trooper, 2x Battle Droid. Anniversary set: Darth Vader's TIE Fighter ($49.99): Darth Vader's TIE Advanced with Darth Vader, 1x TIE pilot, 1x stormtrooper, and anniversary figure Seventh Sister (rebels). Naboo Fighter vs Vulture Droid ($69.99): N-1 (400-ish pcs) and vulture droid (200ish pcs) with Child Anakin, R2-D2, Naboo Pilot, 2x b1 security droid Duel of the Fates diorama ($99.99): laser walls and final catwalk with Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Darth Maul. Quote is "promise me you will train the boy". The Mantis ($109.99): Stinger Mantis with Cal Kestis, Greez Ditrius, Nightsister Merrin, Cere Junda, BD-1, Second Sister, and a Purge Trooper. MTT ($139.99): 24x b1 battle droid, 2x b1 pilot droid, Jar Jar Binks. Anniversary set: The Millennium Falcon ($169.99): ANH Falcon with Farmboy Luke, Princess Leia, Old Ben Kenobi, Han Solo, Chewbacca, R2-D2, C-3PO, and a special anniversary Starkiller (The Force Unleashed)
