LEGO Star Wars 2024 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
And this also might be the reason they were so outlandish- no one was expecting a jedi bob's starfighter or "evil" millenium falcon, so no one's out there making educateed guesses, unlike, say, they could have for the Rex's y-wing microfighter or Desert Skiff. I think something- not on this level, but the same general concept- was done before with lego or LAN's consent. IIRC it was an uncharted set "leak" a LAN member came up with and spread to see which leakers reposted it. Not the same as this- condoning someone else's fake leak is different than generating your own- but I don't think it's crazy to assume lego would put out some false info to see who spreads it. -

The only issue with that is that I'm confident lego would want to get the main G1 designs out first, and it's pretty hard to turn G1 megatron into a jet or spaceship. I certainly wouldn't say no to eventual TFP sets- if the line does continue or expand, I'm sure they'll want an optimus out every few years, so seeing TFP optimus, bay optimus, etc seems likely. (Though it'd be some pretty damn impressive engineering to pull off either of them.) YYYYYYYEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!! Price adds up to scale with Optimus, and he says it's a G1 and can transform. This is excellent news. Now we all just need to cross our fingers the larger one is our boy Megs. -

Jeez, just 4 years ago they were $15. I'm losing my mind. This Hydra base better be pretty substantially sized or this went from buying 2 for sure to 1 when if I see a good sale. -
Marvel Superheroes 2024 - Rumors & Discussion

I might be reading this wrong, but I don't think it tells us anything. No one's alleging lego, like, shot all the leakers or something. If they're still posting, but not posting links, it's still very possible that lego's managed to cut off the sources. There are two reasons: 1. it makes it easier for knockoff companies to get knockoffs of the specific set topics or designs out right around the time of the official product, if not before. I don't think this is as big of a deal nowadays as it used to be, but it's still a thing. 2. Leaks can significantly hurt people's opinions of sets in a number of ways. If lego makes a change after the prelims leak, such as changing the phase of the clones in the 2018 battle pack, there are complaints and potentially lost sales. In addition, when your first exposure to something is blurry, potato-quality images, many people are subconsciously gonna have a lower opinion of the set even after better images release. Iron Spider-Man is $30 and Goblin is $35, instead of them both being $38 like I'd heard- that's a LOT better, and I might end up getting Iron Spider-Man to be honest. $30 is still a little over what I'd like to pay for it, but I'm sure I can find him for $25 not long after release now. -

What's funny is a live in a different country and I saw about 5 Jyns, as well as a couple Bazes and Chirruts, still on shelves at a toy store last month. Those did NOT do well, especially the ones of unmasked/unhelmeted humans -
Dune 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Mandalorianknight's topic in LEGO Licensed
I mean, as we see, sandworms are a variety of sizes. I think they could pull off riding a smaller one. I've wanted for awhile a diorama with Paul and Lady Jessica staring down the sandworm from part one, with the sandworm's maw structured sort of like the outline of the palpatine's throne room diorama. I think another good option would be a playscale version of the gunship ornithopter with the pintle mounted gun- As for that last bit, seeing I honestly think it's anyone's guess what is or isn't in a Dune Messiah film, at least in terms of details like that. -
Dune 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Mandalorianknight's topic in LEGO Licensed
Dune part two may legitimately be the greatest film I've ever seen. It's also probably less appropriate than part one- there's more graphic violence and a couple scenes that are a bit suggestive. But that said, the film is GOOD. And it's tracking to make a fair chunk of change. I think ultimately the chances of more sets will be dependent on sales of the Ornithopter.... but I also think sales of the Ornithopter might get a bump this weekend. -
Marvel Superheroes 2024 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Excellent figures- I'd actually be tempted to get them- but the price hike to almost $40? It was only a year or two ago a standard fig was $25. Goblin at least has the glider, but, c'mon, those spindly robot arms are not $13 of value -
Neither was Mad Hatter. This isn't really any more true for Deathstroke than it is for Mad Hatter. This is not how themes work. Exactly. Unless the character is almost irrevocably linked to an inappropriate topic- such as Zsasz and his self-inflicted scars- lego's fine putting them in sets. Seriously. It's been what, 4-5 years since the last commercially availible Bin?
-
I mean, like, in general I agree with you here, but... cannibalism is also pretty bad, I think. (I mean, all three are bad, escort's just not really on the same level as the other two). In general, it's more about appropriateness than level of evil. Crimes that would have Chris Hansen showing up alongside Batman are both really evil and not something appropriate for kids. Joker routinely murders and stuff, which is pretty evil, but more acceptable for kids to see. March Harriet's crime is less evil than, say, Joker killing Jason, but since "escort" isn't really something you can explain to kids, unlike "joker killed robin", it was more surprising she showed up. I think Mad Hatter's just not in sets because he's not very interesting to kids. This is the first I've heard of him committing that particular evil, and it's not like lego hasn't made figs of people of that level of evil before (deathstroke). I mean, sort of? Lego Marvel still does produce sets for new movies, but it's less, and they mainly focus on the older, more popular movies (infinity saga) as well as mainstays like spider-man. I mean, yeah, we'll probably get a couple Batman two sets, next year. That's why we don't know "where" they are. We aren't getting Joker two sets, obviously, and we very rarely get stuff for games. We also won't get Caped Crusader stuff right off the bat as it's kind of in development hell, so lego has no guarantee the sets would do better than, say, the Burton sets they like putting out, because they don't even know if/when the SHOW will come out. Your argument for us supposedly getting caped crusader sets was that we had BTAS sets, and I was pointing out that that argument doesn't really make sense, as I could say the exact same thing about other shows- ones more connected to BTAS- like Batman Beyond or JLU.
-
So in other words, no, there are no caped cruscader sets anymore than the BTAS sets this summer are JLU sets or Batman Beyond sets... No, dude, we all WANT lego DC to start getting more sets. But there's a difference between wanting more sets and just pretending Caped Crusader sets are coming with absolutely zero evidence. Just like with Indiana Jones, I understand the enthusiam. I really do. But at a certain point, you have to face the reality of the situation.
-
Every batman villain's been/done something f***d up at some point. I'm sure Alice is underage in some continuities, but I don't think she was in stuff like BTAS. With Mad Hatter, you can remove the darker elements, just like you can for Joker/freeze/bane/poison ivy/most other characters. But like you say, people like Zsasz are pretty hard to make family-friendly. I agree we won't see him. No powers or suit or anything, just a knife and scars for each person he kills. Not to mention, unlike other scars, he's purposely cutting himself.

My bad. I thought they molded him as one of the Lambros in the WFC trilogy, but you're right, he's still a formula one type. I agree Sideswipe's pretty likely too, he and Prowl are what I think of in terms of "generic autobot". True- though we are now hearing some positive stuff- I'm surprised it's supposedly PG-13, and the test results sound good too. Yeah, I don't think we see G2 tank. There's "he needs a bit more color", and then there's the Toxitron collection. G2 megatron isn't much more likely than Banana Grimlock, Orange Jazz, or Watermelon Mirage. I'm pretty confident Bumblebee would be G1 bumblebee. We got G1 prime, and while Movie bumblebee is maybe more iconic, it'd also be near-impossible to make transform at that scale and look as close to the actual model in both car and bot mode as hasbro would want. Horn bumblebee also seems to be making a comeback, there was a little bit there (Prime, really) where he had more of a movie design in other media, but in the WFC trilogy, Cyberverse, Earthspark (I think, I haven't seen it), and most legacy merch, he's got the horns. The only place the movie design is continuing is the movies, and that's likely just a holdover from Bumblebee originally being set in the Bayverse and ROTB being a direct sequel to bumblebee and as such keeping most of the same general design ideas. That said, I think Bumblebee and Megatron's pretty likely. It's possible lego chickens out on Megs being a tank and does Soundwave or Starscream instead, but I think they'll pull through- Megatron is iconic enough that I think they'll get past the tank reservations. -
Four sword holder has to be some sort of mistake in the promo art- putting aside the fact that cole can't hold four katanas at once so it's kind of weird they'd produce the element in the first place, this will take up an inordinate amount of space on a minifig. With all four katanas slotted in, he'll fall backwards pretty easily under his own wight unless he's holding a larger weapon in front. Not to mention even if they did for some reason want a four sword holder, say it's connected to the tournament (like every contestant has a tournament-issue katana and taking the blade is proof you beat them or something), why not put two on each side to save a bit more space?

Lies, Deception! Every day, more lies! But actually- I agree in general, destruction of the arkhamverse and disrespect on Conroy's Batman nonwithstanding. DC's been doing much better with it's more mature material- Like you say, The Batman counts, and I'd throw the Snyder cut on there, as well as the harley quinn show (Which I never saw and personally don't really get, but people seem to enjoy it, same as TSS or peacemaker). This, naturally, hurts the potential for lego DC. We need a new animated show. We need a Caped Cruscader (202?) on wide-release, not just an amazon streaming original or whatever Lego's leak agents (this is a real job by the way) when someone guesses 2025 will contain a batmobile with batman and joker as well as a 4+ set and a buildable figure for the entirety of the year.

I've spoken about this in other threads, but there's a pretty hard line for lego when it comes to tv/movies/games. If it's TV-MA/R/M, we don't get direct tie ins. Aside from lego being duped into producing an Echo figure for the marvel CMF, and the show was changed last minute to MA, we've never had direct lego tie ins to properties of those ratings, and we likely never will. Now, lego could easily include some arkham designs in a generic batman set, but it won't be branded under the arkham franchise, and likely would have some figs from other continuities and a more general arkham design. With the exception of the TLBM years, I don't think we were pulling anywhere near those kinds of numbers for Lego Batman, EVER. Between 2024 and 2025, if lego decides to go all-in for the superman movie and batman part 2, I think the most we get is 15 sets total (counting things like the skyline and buildible bat-pod, but not counting things like polybags or keychains), and that's being extremely optimistic. Realistically, I think next year we see ~3 The Batman 2 sets, 1-2 Superman sets, and ~3 other batman sets. I agree that a new animated series is necessary for any sort of expansion of the batman franchise. We'll get tie-in sets for the movies, but Gunn's movies have never been particularly kid-oriented, and neither have batman movies since the 21st century began. We need an animated series so kids have something to engage with on a regular level that exposes them to Batman.

They seem to be near-exclusively depending on AFOLS who really want all their x-wing pilots to have arm printing and dual-molded legs. Exploding functions were my favorite as a kid. Being able to have some figures' battle tear it's way through a set without having to completely reassemble everything afterwards was great. As an adult I'll tend to seal them up or build the toppling minifig functions into normal floor, but I get why they're there, and they add play value to playset builds, which is needed as otherwise they're almost always going to lose out to vehicles. Crisis averted! Now that we've got some confirmation it is the same UCS Rex, that's honestly a really cool move by lego. There's an 9 or so month period of exclusivity to the UCS set, and then the desirable fig becomes widely availible for everyone. People have a tendency to really tear into lego with anything clone-related, and while they certainly have some issues with the figs (Find a way to make cloth kamas work or dual mold the legs, lego), I think it's equally important to point out the stuff they're doing right. If sitting through printed kamas and suboptimal helmet prints came with previously scalped-to-high-heaven figs being availible in $13 sets, I'd take it any day of the week. -
The main thing I wanted from the D2C batcave fig wise was an extended bat family, but alas. No way to get Orphan, or Red Hood (besides paying.... $35 for the fig alone? That's not actually bad, I swear he used to be like $70) Well, technically speaking, Knight's suit is completely different. It's got the screen face and all that. The included fig is Batman. But yeah. It was just the suit (and sort of the logo? They never specify arkham knight- because they can't make stuff from an M-rated game- but the logo on the box is pretty similar to the arkham games)

I respect the supply/demand notion, but at the same time, c'mon Lego! It's cloth! You don't charge more for in-demand items with your other products! (That said, the PAB site is probably almost exclusively used by Afols, and let's face it, this is an expensive hobby. They probably know people who are buying specific parts directly from lego are able and willing to pay prices like this. But they did lose me... $7 is not worth it for a little piece of cloth) I'm pretty sure they said it was exactly the same as the Venator Rex, and the pauldron stuff is all speculation. It's what I remember, and I also feel like there would have been much more of an outcry if we'd known back then that there wasn't a pauldron, as opposed to right now, where it's just speculation. -
Unfortunately I think the arkham games are generally too mature for us to get sets directly based off of- the Arkham Knight inspired Batmobile was really stretching the limits beyond what I thought they would do as-is. I think the most we'd get if this was a theme that got sets like lego marvel would be a D2C arkham with some arkham game inspired villain designs, maybe a batsuit based off Origions or Asylum. But since it's lego DC, the most we'll get is an earless batman prelim in a cancelled tower of fate set.

....ouch, didn't realize that. What kind of an upcharge is that? There are larger molded animals that go for less than that on PAB, this is a small piece of cloth- printing aside. You'd think printed torsos would be more expensive than it to produce. Completely agree, especially since there's no real argument against including it- it's not going to interfere with the chest closing like the mech, it won't prevent the fig from sitting like kamas, etc. It'd purely be a cost saving move- since they apparently value that kama so much. Honestly I'd prefer he loses the arm printing if it's just them wanting to keep the fig cheaper/different from the venator one. Without arm printing Rex still looks like a complete figure. Without the pauldron something's noticeably wrong. -

This was mentioned in the PAB thread the other day, but I just saw it now and thought this thread would also probably want to know- REX'S PAULDRON is supposedly coming to lego's online bricks and pieces service. That's incredible news in my opinion, as pauldrons are usually fairly rare and expensive secondhand for a single piece. I'll definitely be getting some- aside from my current Rex not having a pauldron, it'll be a cool thing to equip to the 501st officer figure, and can also help rank some stormtrooper lieutenants.
