Marvel Superheroes 2024 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
I agree with the general sentiment, but this is at most like 7 sets, one of which was slotted for this year. And that's assuming Thunderbolts gets the full 3 set lineup as opposed to the equally likely scenario where we get one set and only get like a third of the team. I think X-men can squeeze in. -
This is ABSOLUTELY true. Lego DC only gets ~2-4 figure-scale playsets a year now. And absolutely zero of the figure-based dioramas themes like Star Wars and Jurassic Park have, or the black-base figure-filled diorama/playsets Marvel has. @BatDeanj's post was completely accurate. I think just in general. Though it's not necessarily that it's lego's least favorite, or they don't like it, as much as it is their worst-selling of the evergreen licensed themes. That said, they've put themselves in a cycle of poor sales- low quality/bad set- poor sales. Stuff like the Batcave, that should have been an easy layup, ended up being shelfwarmers because lego was too afraid to be comic-based or invest in more prints/figs.

This is the last time I will attempt to explain this. It is rating based, not subjectively what it "was like". Batman Returns is not R, so it can get sets. All dependent on rating, I think. If Caped Cruscader is TV-PG or TV-14, it's got a good shot at sets. TV-MA- not happening. (Also, check out Firestar Toys for lego Invincible, one of the few times I've been tempted to get a custom fig.) I'm not watching this, but based on the thumbnail and title- and again, not trying to be rude, just trying to understand- how is this something that needs to be posted in the 2024 lego batman discussion thread? What does it have to do with anything?
-
Agreed. Anyone expecting more than 1-3 figs is being extremely optimistic anyway IMO. The new X-jet is, it's unknown whether or not the mansion is. Regardless @legoturtle, marvel's had TONS of animated shows over the last decade, this is nothing new. And the X-men already have a D2C coming, separate from the $200 D2C, which is supposed to be DC.

Eh, they've changed costumes before, they'll cover her up. No way they skip ready-made figures with how they do the budgets. There's no way that every X-men to be in a set in the past year or two isn't in the mansion. -

Droideka rolling up is massive. Greatly improves my opinion of the set. Might even have to get it, since one could say it's... more than meets the eye. We can see a cloth cape on the figure, so I'm sure he means that cape is printed. -
I don't think it'll be a batpod, if for no other reason than we're already getting a large-scale one this year. That said, a UCS bat-vehicle does seem more likely than a modular, and for $200, I'm not sure exactly what it would be. Maybe The Bat, or another movie batmobile. Maybe a UCS BTAS Batmobile.

I think this may be another case where we're agreeing and just saying it differently. Sure, Lego didn't do the best they could, and another figure or lower price would have been nice. But you can say that about almost every set they put out nowadays. I don't think the lightpost was a trade-off at any point or really bares any blame for any shortcomings of the set. We don't have any indications of figure count yet, but the May UCS sets tend to have two figs. The countdown may also just be for when all the sales and stuff take effect- they usually have countdowns to may 4th, black friday, etc. -

I'm pretty confident this is the largest BARC we've ever had. The sidecar is consistently larger than the 2013 one! I'd guess Moff Jerjerrod or another officer, maybe someone like Janus Greejatus if they want to be more unique. -
I feel like it's pretty reasonable to be bummed that the Blacktron ship turned out to be some rapper's spaceship with a ton of heads. Less of "something exists that isn't specifically tailored to me" and more of "what we thought was a new classic space set is actually not even remotely a classic space set"
-
Ok, I went back, because I thought I was going crazy, since I KNEW we'd talked about this, and we had- Again, I am not trying to be rude, but we've talked about this exact thing like two weeks ago! You've brought this up before and people have explained that lego doesn't do sets for R/TV-MA/M properties! Lego's policy did not change in the two week interval. I agree back when it was first airing, but I believe the newer seasons, while still rated ok for kids, were a lot more adult focused and based on more mature topics. While it was a superhero cartoon, I don't think it was something kids were watching a la the DCAU back in the day. Which reinforces the notion that what lego DC needs for any sort of comic-based sets is a mainline cartoon aimed at kids to keep Batman in their mind.

No, this is real, I genuinely love getting the little side builds in sets. I doubt it was "well, we can do a light post, or we can add another minifigure". Putting aside the fact that 3 figs+ a grogu in a $30 set is pretty standard for lego, as they seemingly count grogu as a full figure, as well as the fact that I believe a minifigure is worth more (both in literal production cost and the amount lego thinks people will pay for it) than the parts comprising the lamp post, you know lego would have sold just the rest of the set for $30. In fact, I think that's what most people were expecting, since the descriptions just mentioned a BARC speeder w/sidecar and the figs. I think a more accurate comparison than "the light post cost us a figure or new mold" would be "the lightpost cost us a bit of chunkiness on the speeder". This is speculation, of course- no one really fully knows how it works- but if I remember correctly, we do know that the price point and build subject are assigned first. I think it's highly unlikely that there was a point in time where this would have included a naboo guard instead of a light post, I think it's infinitely more likely that a designer was realizing how the set didn't seem like it was worth it and tried to add SOMETHING besides just making the BARC even more oversized. I'm glad you like it- though unfortunately I think this is the biggest/stockiest BARC we've ever had. I guess I also agree that the $30 mando sets have been generally solid, especially as sort of complete play experiences. There's something for kids to do or a scenario to play out in all of them, as opposed to, say, the pirate snub fighter, which has two same-faction characters and a small ship for $5 more than these. ....I might have had a different answer before, but now I feel like I gotta stick with it. And in a more general sense, while I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to a 501st ARF alone, we know it wouldn't just be a single 501st. It'd be another 501st battle pack. When there are a number of prominent legions yet to get a BP in the past decade (or ever), not to mention literally every faction other than the clones, which have been battle pack starved for awhile now. -
Somehow the next upcoming lego film is a Will Pharrel biopic. I don't know why this choice was made. I don't know what the fan overlap is. But universal is gonna do what it wants, I guess. I... I'm gonna be honest, this might be the most confusing post I've seen from you. I know you've been reading the thread. Do you not see us discussing this stuff? I feel like superman sets have been the only actual relevant discussion we've been having. Did you just discover that these movies and shows were coming? I swear I've seen you bring these up before. This is a pretty outdated list- the strikes are over and an official trailer for penguin is out. But in general: Yeah, we might see superman sets. We've been talking about it in this very thread. A LOT of the movies/shows you copy/pasted are things that, even if they release, won't see lego sets due to their age rating. Joker, Penguin, Creature Commandos, Peacemaker, Kite Man, Constantine 2, etc are all concretely R/MA rated, and not getting sets as a result. A good chunk of the others have a solid shot at being R/MA as well, seeing how Gunn likes to play things and the grittiness of the source material for some of them. Which I guess brings me to the TLDR of... yeah? Most of us know these are coming, it's not exactly secret. We've been actively talking about whether or not we'll get sets for the upcoming non R/MA content. I don't mean to come off as rude, I'm just really confused. Did you not know any of these were coming? Did you think the people posting in a DC lego set thread didn't know the movies/shows were coming?

I will burn this planet to the ground if lego gives us ANOTHER 501st trooper variant this soon. There are other colors than blue, lego. Please. 100% agree. That, or something like the landing pad and temple exit. It would both add playability and make the build itself more accurate. Don't tempt me with that second lamp post. That's true, but I suppose then you're just being presented with the choice right? Buy the set now for a single fig, or wait and see if the single fig ends up in a magazine for much cheaper. (and if he doesn't show anytime soon, you can still buy the set- it'll be around for at least a year or two) I suppose it's always possible, and would fit with how weirdly piecemeal they've been releasing/revealing stuff. -

To be fair, it's not like it's made of particularly rare parts- you just swap a few red parts for grey in the advent calendar and bam. But it is nice to see them using a consistent design across different colorations. I actually really like the light post. It adds a bit to the world, it's a nice side build that wasn't needed, and it looks good for what it is. I will not tolerate this lamp post abuse. But for real, while I do agree the set seems overpriced, I am going to call out the lamp post as the designer trying to squeeze in a bit more value, as well as what I said above about it being an extra part of the world. I really like it when we get little terrain side builds, it helps make a more complete play experience for kids. Lego 100% would have charged $30 for this regardless of the lamp post's inclusion, so I'm glad we're getting it rather than just having x fewer parts, or a speeder bike that's just THAT much chunkier. Overall the set's fine. Definitely overpriced, and I think it relies upon people being WAY bigger Kelleran Beq fans than I think most people are, since he's really the only selling point of the set. I seriously dislike how giant and chunky these BARCs are getting- I think even without the sidecar this is the worst offender in terms of sheer size. The pram is fine, as is Grogu, and I guess it's nice people who don't want to swap parts from the two currently availible blue clone battle packs can now have 501st shinies, but again, this means we'll have three sub-$30 sets with generic blue clones availible simultaneously. The lamp post is unironically my favorite part of the set for the reasons listed above. Expands the world, shows the designer was trying to squeeze in some value, etc. Why would you be sad if he was in the magazine? -

If you swim in the chicago river, not dying from the water uses up all the luck you gain from doing it on st patrick's day. Oh yeah no you're 100% correct, it's a good figure overall. The green isn't realistically something they could have avoided- lego doesn't have colors muted to the extent they'd need besides just making saw black or gunmetal grey, which wouldn't work for the character either. I was originally going to say that while I don't think it's because of the anniversary figure, it does look overpriced, but looking at it more... I actually think the price is fine. 4 figs and a build that does seem pretty sizable and solid when you actually look at the parts used. I also agree that the TPM anniversary isn't as little as people are making it out to be. It's more or less the same as ROTJ. -

Not enough people are talking about this. He's aggressively green. He makes the lego House Atreides uniforms look like a dull color choice. He's the guy that won't shut up about how he carpools and uses re-usable grocery bags. He swims in the chicago river on St. Patrick's day. -
@TheBatstan, as someone who was still around the age range of eating legos when the original batman theme was coming out, it's good to hear some insight from someone who actually experienced the original run on forums and such. It was a very interesting read through to go through the first page or two of the thread, see what people hoped for (we got most of it, but I feel bad for the guy that suggested a clayface based on the game. It's been so long...) But the most important thing from that thread:

No offense, but some of these complaints are pretty unreasonable and others are misdirected. Putting aside the fact that I have no clue where you're pulling $15 from (but seriously, what?), I think it's pretty clear the anniversary figures are not the issue. Lego could and would have sold us this set, with three figs, for $70. They've had worse prices. That doesn't make it not an issue, but the fact that they're giving us anniversary figures isn't what the issue is- it's the prices, and based on the other revealed sets with 25th figures, there's no reason to assume they're playing a significant role in price inflation. The issue isn't that Saw Guerra is adding an oddly specific and high cost to the set, it's that lego's inflated prices significantly. The system sets don't have special anniversary bricks or tiles. This might be a reasonable complaint for the droideka or podrace diorama, but it doesn't really make sense for the infiltrator. There was no reason to expect it would have one. -
No sets for three full years implies something happened- my guess is they didn't just want to spam batmobiles, had run out of the general bat-vehicle concepts, and were negotiating to use the wider universe. No one actually knows for sure, but whether they stopped the license or just sat on it for a few years with no sets, the end result is the same- no sets.

To be fair, the dropship was 33% more expensive than battle packs were at the time. We did pay for the extra fig. The second I saw the set leaked I looked for your post, did not disappoint. Honestly I think saw was intended as a "bonus", as I could EASILY see 2024 lego selling a $70 set with 3 figs. The TIE dagger was $80 with three back in 2020, and both inflation and lego's own increases have gotten drastically worse since then. As for the infiltrator itself, it's fine. Feels a little overpriced. I'm glad Qui-gon has a cloth poncho. -

You sort of answer your question here, don't you? It doesn't matter what quote they use, as the endor speeder chase and podrace show that it doesn't have to be a remotely iconic quote (the former) or from the exact scene being shown (the latter). I could see @Flawless Cowboy's NOOOOOO, or "Promise me you'll train the boy", or "we'll handle this", or what have you. As for the fight itself, really any of it. The naboo reactor catwalk imagery is a fairly memorable background in the film, moreso than the windows 95 desktop background the main final battle takes place in at least. I think he means the 2002 one. While I don't think the new system droideka is good, I don't think new specialized molds are the answer- though that's partially because I'm generally against making everything specialized molds when they can be brick-built- this is lego, after all. I think it is possible to make a good droidika with bricks, especially since they're as big as a human in-universe. It's not like BD-1 where any brick-built model would be super oversized. -

Very disappointing. I know we've usually been getting one of the three as a non-lego item, but ONE of the three, now it's two? I liked the pattern we were getting of polybag-non lego item-set. It was nice, and the non lego gifts weren't bad. The beskar ingot was a cool keychain idea, even if I'd just have preferred an ingot, and the coin was also interesting. The patches are notably not metal, which I feel makes them less interesting and feel cheaper. The weight of the metal and the intricacy of the coin made them feel like an actual item of value rather than the patches, which are just... does anyone care whatsoever about those? -
We haven't had any concrete info or even rumors about it, but the number of sets has been trending down for awhile now, and sales of what we do get aren't great from what we can see. If this wave doesn't do well, and ESPECIALLY if lego does any superman 2025 sets and THEY fail, it's not altogether unlikely lego decides the license isn't worth the fee.
