German Toy Fair – LEGO To Increase Focus On AFOLs
Lego David replied to danth's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I also have a LEGO Store near me... It's like just 20 minutes of driving. -
LEGO Monkie Kid 2020
Lego David replied to Classic_Spaceman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I guess you could technically count Elves as "anime-inspired" since the TV Show it got had a pretty distinct anime-style animation. -
LEGO Monkie Kid 2020
Lego David replied to Classic_Spaceman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Maybe not in this wave, but assuming that Monkey Kid is planned for at least a three-year run time, there would still eventually be overlap between the two lines. -
LEGO Monkie Kid 2020
Lego David replied to Classic_Spaceman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
If they don't want this line to fail, they would be required to do so. After all, if this line is also big bang, also Asian-inspired, and also vehicle-based, what would convince an average buyer to choose Monkey Kid over Ninjago? They would look like the exact same thing in the eyes of that average buyer. -
LEGO Monkie Kid 2020
Lego David replied to Classic_Spaceman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
It's still too early to judge though. We have barely seen two minifigures. There would be a lot more to the theme than that. Keep your opinion for when we get actual pictures of the sets. -

Armor ideas for a Hero Factory 1.0 Arm?
Lego David replied to Takanuinuva's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Or maybe you could just use some Nuva Shoulder Armor pieces. -
LEGO Monkie Kid 2020
Lego David replied to Classic_Spaceman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
This seems very unlikely, but it's possible that LEGO wants this theme to replace Ninjago. Just think about it... Back in 2013, they wanted to replace Ninjago with Chima. That didn't work out as planned, so maybe they are trying it again this year with Monkey Kid. I highly doubt LEGO would have two themes with very similar aesthetics at the same time on shelves unless they intend for one to replace the other. Again, it's unlikely, but still a possibility. -
Is LEGO making way too many vehicles?
Lego David replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Ok, so from what I gathered from this topic, people seem to be ok with LEGO having so many vehicles. But if that is the case, why do I see so many people complaining about Ninjago having too many vehicles and not enough location-based sets? I even saw a lot of people being very concerned about the fact that Monkey Kid/Leaf could potentially also be a vehicle-based theme. -
LEGO Ideas Discussion
Lego David replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The results for the second 2019 review season just got published. The Medieval Blacksmith and Winnie the Pooh passed. -
In the past few years, the number of vehicle sets that LEGO has been making has grown a lot, to the point where themes like Ninjago, DC, Marvel, are almost completely focused on vehicles. From what I have seen, the fact that Ninjago is now focused almost exclusively on vehicles has turned a lot of people down, so I was wandering... Are LEGO Vehicles getting out of control? Is LEGO making more than they really should be? What are your thoughts?

German Toy Fair – LEGO To Increase Focus On AFOLs
Lego David replied to danth's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I am pretty sure TLG doesn't actually understand what a true AFOL is. That's why they focus their AFOL-Targeted sets on things that would normally appeal to a casual adult that also happens to like LEGO, but doesn't actively follow with the brand. Things like the Old Trafford Stadium, Harley Davidson etc, aren't things AFOLs like us would buy, but rather things a casual adult that appreciates LEGO, but isn't a fan would buy. If only they checked out sites like this one, where actual AFOLs are, I am pretty sure they'd get a better idea of what we actually want and would be willing to buy. I think this would be a good way for them to gather information about what AFOL-Targeted products to release, but for whatever reason, they don't do it. So yeah, TLG is very disconnected from it's fans, and doesn't even know what an actual "AFOL" is. They'd better improve in that area if they don't want to loose us. -
Future Action and Adventure Themes

This sounds like something beyond what LEGO would realistically ever do though... -

Action and Adventure Themes Discussion
Lego David replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I really wish LEGO went back and released some of those old themes that never got released... Maybe the 80's or 90's was too early to make Gangster sets, but I don't think there would be any problem if they released them today.- 233 replies

LEGO Hidden Side 2020
Lego David replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Even if this wave wasn't originally planned to be the last one, it could very well be if the sales don't grow. LEGO has made itself a reputation for canceling their original themes prematurely, so I wouldn't be surprised if that happened with Hidden Side as well. -
LEGO Hidden Side 2020
Lego David replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Reportedly Hidden Side has had mixed sales, performing good in some regions and poorly in others. Considering that, I don't think LEGO would continue it for much longer anyway. Let's hope the final wave does justice to the theme. -
If they go the faithful remake route, like @Hive has suggested, retired moulds shouldn't really be a problem. They can just replace them with whatever parts they currently have in production.
-
How can they judge based on something that happened almost 20 years ago? Just because the Legends sets flopped back then doesn't mean the same will happen today. The number of AFOLs willing to buy a set like that has grown drastically since 2002. Most countries today have at least one official LEGO store, and online shopping has gotten to the point where it will soon replace buying from physical stores. I think this isn't a good way of judging whether a set will sell or not. LEGO really needs to think twice about situations like this. I for one, believe that they are missing out on a lot of potential cash.

[Poll] What's Your Favorite Modern Space Theme?
Lego David replied to Lego David's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Ok, I respectfully disagree with that. While I love all of those Space Themes, Mars Mission is probably my favorite. I personally think the color scheme looks really good and it fits the Mars setting very well. I personally don't mind the faceless aliens either, they are good for army building. Plus, let's not forget about the Alien Commander... He is an awesome minifigure in my opinion. While Mars Mission may not objectively be the best Modern Space theme, It's still my favorite. I already have the ETX Mothership and MX-81 Hypersonic Operations Aircraft, and I love them both. I can't wait to get more sets from the theme. -

Well, they still made Hidden Side, which is almost entirely location-based, so you never know... . -
[Poll] What's Your Favorite Modern Space Theme?

I've got the same problem with the poll. It disappears after I press "show results" and reappares after I refresh, but it still doesn't show the results. -
LEGO Monkie Kid 2020
Lego David replied to Classic_Spaceman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Isn't a bit suspicious how two brands came up with the exact same idea for a product line around the exact same time? I personally don't think this is just a coincidence. -
Just out of curiosity, out of all the modern space themes, which one is your personal favorite and why?
