  1. Exactly!!!!! Just compare this two commercials for Ninjago: 2011: 2017: You can clearly tell which one has more effort put into it. And Yes, before was 100% the golden era of LEGO. This may seem weird, but IMO we are currently in the worst era of LEGO of all time.
  2. Still, I really think they should reduce the price to 3$ again. You may think one extra dolar isn't much, but for people from other countires where there are difrent currences one dollar extra is semnificnt.
  3. The new LEGO commercials are garbage. The old ones are sooo cool to the point where you rewatch them out of nostalgia. The old ones had cool music and amazing backgrounds. The new ones just show some kids playing with no real budget put into them. And they removed the classic "HEY!" From the City commercials... this is outrageous. The new commercials are garbage. The old ones are probably the best commercials a toy has ever had.
  4. Collectable minifigs were great... until 2017 when they made that Batman movie series. Since then, they rose the price of them from 1.99$ to 3.99$. And the worst part, since then, they started to get worse and worse with very few good minifigs and most of them being mediocre at best. And seriously. 2 Batman movie series? Why, just why?! The second series was damn awful with the Mermaid Batman being the prime example. I used to buy CMFs a lot. But since 2017, I didn't get any of them for the given reason. Also look at the new LEGO Movie 2 series: If you compare with the original one, the first one is sooo much better. Also I don't understand why they added those wizard of Oz minifigs. Sure, they look good, but they just don't fit with the rest of the minifigures. Also that Unikity is just a normal one, with nothing exclusive about it. And they changed the whole shape of the bags just because of this. Because of a common figure that isn't even exclusive. Shortly, because of licensed themes, the whole CMFs are ruined (at least to me). I used to buy those things because of how chap they were. Now, I can get a polybag which can sometimes have two minifigures for the exact same price. Sorry, 4$ is two much for just a single minifig. And the in the Party CMF, the last 100% original one, that Classic Cop wad the only good minifig, the rest of them were just way to obscure with all those weird costumes.
  5. Exactly. Constraction figures have always been an important part of LEGO, despite being criticized for being "non-LEGO like". Seeing them go away with nothing to replace them is heartbreaking. At least if they remained as part of licensed themes, but as for now, they are completly gone.
  6. I personally have a big problem with this. Having Ninjago remain the only "big bang" theme with nothing else close to it doesn't seem good. They did not have a replacement for the Bionicle Reboot, and I don't think they really have any replacement for either Nexo Knighs or Elves. Ninago will not last forever, and if when Ninjago ends they won't make any replacement theme... Well, I guess they lost me as their costumer forever. The rate at which new licensed themes come out compared at the rate of original themes which come up shows that LEGO doesn't really care about them. If Ninjago's sales will decline, they'd just cancel it with nothing to replace it (unless you consider licensed themes replacements for them). Again, I my opinion, Ninjago is the only theme still worth buying, and if that goes, I guess it's done with my LEGO hobby.
  7. I depends on what you consider to be an original theme. Technic, for example while technically an original theme, is mostly based on licenced real-life models that LEGO makes in partnership with the company producing that car, and they do have to pay a fee for this, which makes it licensed. A big problem I have is that Ninjago is currently the only story-based original theme that remains. Both Nexo Knights and Elves are gone, and I don't really believe LEGO has any replacements for either of them as for now, which is a big problem IMO.
  8. As I have said, all I said in the video is 100% my opinion, not actual facts. The reason I am anti-licensed is because, as I said, they got way to far. In 2009, we had only like 4 licensed theme. Now, almost all of the themes are licensed. And when they do such things, they loose a customer. I don't know about other people, but they certainly lost me as their costumer, given the fact that now I only buy old LEGO off the 2nd market. And if they keep doing what they are doing, they are going to loose more and more customers, this taking them in financial trouble. As BB202 has pointed out in his video, LEGO lost money in 2017 and fired over 1000 employees, and reported no growth in 2018. This, like in the case of BB202, makes me wander if there isn't a connection between all those events currently happening in LEGO.
  9. I don't know about the marketing in either the US or Germany, since I live in Romania. Here, is my country, kids always are more into themes like Ninjago, Nexo Knights, Elves or City rather then licensed themes. Everytime I visit a kid who likes LEGOs, I can barely find any licensed sets among them (except for Minecraft, maybe). This proves that original IP's sell a lot better among kids. The reason licensed sets sell "better" is because it's AFOLs most of the time who buy them. OverWatch was clearly meant to be for either TFOLs or AFOLs rather then KFOLs. This is what concerns me: LEGO has been targeting AFOLs for quite some time (what other explanation is there for all those UCS sets?) More then kids, since of course, AFOLs can spend as much money on LEGO as they want when children are limited by their parent's budget. LEGO is a toy, and obviously a toy is for kids. What is strange though, is that recently LEGO has kinda started to become a toy for Adults...
  10. You are right in this point. With Angry Birds, they could have easily made sets based on the Classic Mobile game. But instead, we only got sets based on the movie, which didn't perform very well critically. Shortly, this theme could have been better if they added more then just the Movie to it.
  11. There is a lot more than this: Prince of Persia, the 2014 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Live-action movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Cars 2, Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald, all of them had their own dedicated wave when the movies were a total failure or mediocre at best. They just used Fantastic Beasts 2 (wich by the way has a extremely low 38% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes) to bring back Harry Potter in the so-called "Wizarding World" wave. Bringing back an entire theme that didn't really need to be brought back just for the cause of a bad movie is a poor move in my opinion. Why should LEGO depend on movies that come out when they can independently make their own themes about that specific topic?
  12. I agree with all of this.
  13. This two videos summarize almost all that has been discussed in this topic so far: And this is the video I made where I explained this problem from my own personal opinion:
  14. I 100% agree with this. Most small licensed sets are just a garbage build that a 10-year-old can build, and the only reason people buy them is because of the minifigures. Take the recent 30$ Star Wars Playsets: The build is nothing great and doesn't look great on display either. But it has some cool characters in a cheap set, so they sell very well. I have fallen in this trap with the Darth Vader Transformation set, which I thought was great, but it was actually not. I just got the minifigs and didn't care about the build. And now I regret the 30$ I payed for it, when with the exact same amount I could have ot something better. When you compare this with Original Themes, for the exact same price you get a cool vehicle/building that works perfectly fine without any minifigures. Take LEGO Racers for example. Most sets didn't have any minifigures, but the cars themselves were so amazing that they convinced me to try and collect them all. This is the problem I have with licensed themes: LEGO has focused on them WAY TO MUCH in the past decade or so. If they continue this way, I can see them being in financial trouble in a few years.
  15. Can a mod or someone move it there? As for me, I am 100% for original themes. I have never been a fan of licensed themes, and considering how licensed themes have kinda started to take over original themes as for recently, I started to like Licensed Themes less and less to be honest.
  16. But there has to be one you are more into then the other...
  17. Just wandering... Which type of theme so you prefer? Licensed Theme or Original Themes? Which do you think is better and why? Comment Below!
  18. Racers is my 3rd favorite LEGO Theme of all time. It offered any racing experince a car fan could possibly want: Power Racers, Tiny Turbos, Xalax, OutDoor RC's, Race Tracks, complex Techinc moldels, etc. I recently got the 2004 Ferrari F1 techinc set, and Gosh, I LOVE IT. Racers is a underrated amazing theme. LEGO should 100% bring it back in it's authentic form, with Speed Champoins being incorporated as a subtheme. I just fell in love with those sets at first time I saw them, I set the goal to one day collect all 250 sets that were produced (which will likely never happen, but I lope to get at least half of all the sets produced). If they ever brought it back, I'l go and buy every single set the day they release.
