  1. I don't see why you could keep a O scale engine base and building a Lego body on top. For the older steam engines, the cast body just sat on the engine. Should be able to build a Lego body to sit on the engine easily enough. May need to glue some plates on the engine thou to have something to attached the Lego body too. For Diesels, most have a flat base with just the motor sticking up over the drive wheels. Again building a body that will fit over this shouldn't be too difficult. You will be wider maybe 10 to 12 studs wide, not sure prebuilt windscreen will be available. You will have to custom build something out of Lego. Think it might be easier for you to swap out your Lionel stuff for some older metal Lego track and motors.
  2. I didn't know about the community page. Good to hear he is just on break.
  3. Anyone know what happened to Youtuber RobinHood Bricks? Enjoy his videos, used to post videos multiple times weekly. Has been several weeks since posted anything new. Hope everything is ok with him and his family.
  4. From what i have seen on the internet, the fix is not too complicated. TLG could have postponed the release if they wanted to correct the issue. My comment to pricing and quality was more general, not specifically to the set you referenced. It will be interesting to see what direction TLG will do moving forward. Right now seams they are pushing higher quality products then kock offs, and higher prices accordingly. Hopefully they can correct there production issues soon.
  5. Nice moc. Planning a engine shed for layout too.
  6. Question is would you accept a lower quality product if TLG cut their prices??? Feel most AFOL would not.
  7. Have had some small parts get stuck in the bags....thought I had gotten all the pieces out. Have located some sure missing bricks in the trash before. Check the bags much more closer now. Have had a few missing pieces over the years. Used to get all upset when a piece was missing and contact TLG for a replacement.....now if I have one in my spare parts just use my own. Mellowing out in my old age.
  8. Yes, I am missing that one to. Love the truck and the igloo!!!
  9. Not thrilled about the idea of a Elf Club house but will reserve judgement till its release.
  10. Let me look thru my spare parts for a option to revise the engine coupler. Thank you for sharing your pictures as an example.
  11. I am not a huge fan of the new haunted house ether. IMO it just lacks the fun fair type experience the other sets provide. Agree, not too much discussion on this years set. IMO last years offering of the Gingerbread house was just so-so and folks have lost a little bit of the interest in the theme. The whole COVID-19 mess isn't helping much too. Hopefully this year TLG will offer a nice old fashion building that matches the majority of the sets of this theme and everyone will get excited again.
  12. Note: my comments to SteamStewEmpire questions are above in red. Please read his original post earlier in this tread for his complete posting and thoughts. Cannot recall if speed matters for derailment frequency. I want to say derailments are less common at slower speeds but that is just my impression, can run some tests next time running the engine. Set did not have traction tires on engine main/drive wheels. Did not add any. Front bogie did include traction tires on all 4 wheels and left them on. Bogie on Technic pins, spaced just enough to allow wheels to be mounted (4 stud spacing). Pins are the short ones, one side the Technic cross, other the clip that fits inside a brick with a hole in it. Engine is not powered, no gearing in engine. All drive wheels (not powered) are on the small Technic pins, they all move independently. Bogie is free to move side to side and slightly up and down with little effort. One issue I have just found is that the drive rods will actual hit the bogie on a curve. It hits in an area where the bogie is smooth and just stops the drive wheel for a second (its not powered so not a big deal) IMG_2587 by IMG_2588 by
  13. Question for those who like to run trains on their city layouts. How does the Emerald Knight perform? Looking at YouTube not a lot of AFOL running this set or similar. I moc'ed up a 75955 Harry Potter set with mixed results. My moc has a powered tender. On straight track runs great, get a "s" curve or switch and some derailments. Maybe one every 10th time thru a switch. Basically the tender ends up pushing the engine up off the tracks. Aware sets like the Emerald Knight use a powered engine and perhaps this problem is mitigated. Concerned as at least on YouTube, AFOL typically are not running this train on their video's. Assuming its performance related? Looking for some guidance before getting to far down this road. Will note, my passenger set 60197 (running two sets) works great and cannot recall my last derailment. One single power up motor more then enough to pull two trains. My layout is very flat.

  15. I hear you, but not sure TLG will. TLG is in a process of change, looking at marketing to new customers.....looking to increase revenue like all businesses. I just hope they don't forget about us, there existing customer base. I am still holding out for a ice skating pond with a hot chocolate stand for this years offering. Know it wont happen, but still fun to dream.....
  16. My thoughts....if TLG sell it, people will buy it. I'm just glad they don't charge more for their stuff!
  17. Ok, sounds like as I should pull the trigger now an purchase is I want the existing wheels. Thank you all for your thoughts.
  18. Was looking at S@H and 60198 is showing as out of stock, no back order option. The passenger train set 60197 does have a back order option. Does this mean 60198 is out of production? I hope not as wanted to get this set and were only in year 2 of the normal 4 year cycle for train releases. Aware these are unusual time and there are more unknowns then usual. Before pulling the trigger using a marked up 3rd party seller wondering if this set will be offered by TLG again. Seams all Lego pricing is marked up currently due to low supply, prefer to wait till things calm down a bit but if its discontinued experience tell me to buy now. Appreciate you thoughts.
  19. Last year got 20 Chinese bearings for like $4. They worked great. My problem now is my layout is not perfectly level and the cars will roll on there own in certain spots. Have not installed bearings on all my rolling stocks as my layout is flat and not really needed, just wanted to try them out.
  20. Covered platforms. That's taking things to a whole new level. Wow, great build.
  21. Lets see, for the theme TLG has offered; a store, government building, store, house, fantasy house, store, train, transportation station, government building, fantasy house....my moneys on another store for the 2020 WV set. Cafe if I had to narrow down any further.
  22. I am struggling to see how this road sticker is considered LEGO. Would expect this to be offered by a 3rd party, not TLG. Also it needs to stick fairly well for play and if that is true will be a real pain to remove from the floor. Doubtful this will be attractive for parents. Road base plates are expensive so maybe this is the only option for some families. 49' of tape would equal a lot of road base plates. Thinking if I were to purchase a sticker of a road wouldn't limit myself to just getting something produced by TLG. IMO a sticker is not part of the Lego "system". Sure opinions will vary so if you approve, go for it. I will be sticking with traditional road base plates. We change our city layout too much to have anything so permanent as a sticker...lol.
  23. Would love to have something like this in my layout. Great job!
  24. That looks like a fun layout. Wish I had that when I was a kid!
  25. Wow.....was really hoping for something different then the haunted house this year to continue developing my amusement park. Sure a lot of builders out there will love it. As running out of room in my display area not sure I am going to purchase this one. Will have to wait and see in person to make the finial call. IMO the Carousel this set is replacing was superior. That said, thinking the Ferris Wheel the Carousel replaced was even better. Guess I was just expecting a more traditional fair ride. Maybe this one will grow on me?
