2015 The LEGO Movie rumors and discussion
tafkatb replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
There's nothing in that picture that hasn't been accounted for with this year's releases. And they're making more because, quite simply, they've been selling really really well. Sales of The LEGO Movie sets were a significant contributor to TLG's recent ascension to the position of world's largest toy company, so they presumably see enough demand for another small wave of sets even without any continued media support. -
Lego Architecture Studio Illustrations?
tafkatb replied to JRock1966's topic in General LEGO Discussion
A simple straight edge should do it, really - that and establishing vanishing points to align the perspective. Your first option of using overlay paper sounds like a better method for teaching technical drawing. I recommend looking into some of the textbooks written by Francis D. K. Ching; they were a very useful resource when I was in architecture school. -
$199.99 USD

At this point it's probably safe to say the sets are "finished" but not ready for market. A lot needs to be done in terms of packaging and distribution. As a vague rule of thumb, we know LEGO sets tend to take about eighteen (though some can be fast-tracked as quickly as six) months to get from concept to shelves, but to my knowledge there's no solid info on exactly how long each step of the process takes.

New Theme Being Announced at New York Comic Con 2014
tafkatb replied to Pheonix1604's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The folks down in the Action Figure forum seem pretty convinced it's the BIONICLE relaunch. Place your bets, folks! -
Not necessarily. TLG has gotten better at stopping leaks in recent years, but I'd still anticipate most of the official pictures turning up by the end of October. That's assuming this theme debuts in January, though as crowded as the playing field is getting (return of Pirates and BIONICLE, the new Elves-or-Faeries-depending-on-the-translation theme, and the continuation of the usual evergreens along with Disney Princesses, The LEGO Movie, Chima, Ninjago, and Ultra Agents) it might not even come out until later in the year.

I'm mostly surprised to see two years in a row of only Landmark Series - I thought the retirement of the Guggenheim, Robie House, and Farnsworth House might be to make room for more Architect Series models, but perhaps that was just wishful thinking.- 180 replies

LEGO Minecraft (Minfigure Scale) 2014 Rumors and Discussion

So this would be the first time a licensed theme has necessitated new pieces that are actually more blocky, yes? I really like the Crafting Box; I just wish we had gotten something like that for The LEGO Movie theme. -

Looking at the Green Lantern set coming from DC Super Heroes, it looks like there will be a new stud-mounted version of the stud shooter. Could be that.
-
Heck, it could just be a generic Watchtower guard for all we know.
-
I'm sure that's what a lot of people want, but a smaller set could still do it justice. I've only seen Frozen once, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall there being a whole lot going on interior-wise. A spiral staircase, a chandelier... that's all I remember. Something about the size of Rapunzel's Creativity Tower could get the point across and be pretty affordable, and I have the feeling plenty of people will buy multiples to build a much larger version anyway.

My first instinct was to say Olive Green, Medium Lavender, and Medium Nougat. Those are all fairly new colors, so maybe I'm just mostly attracted to novelty. Still, I'd really love to see a Medium Nougat modular.

Yeah, pretty new, I mean he's only been around for 74 years. But, yes, the current series in which he operates under his civilian identity rather than Robin or Nightwing or Batman only recently debuted.

$70 is the NZD price; USD price would probably be around $35 or $40.

Modulex A/S was technically a separate company all along, albeit closely tied to TLG since it was started by Godtfred Kirk Christiansen. (Early versions even had the LEGO logo stamped into them before they switched to an M logo.) They have been focused on architectural signage and graphics since the late 70's and merged with ASI Sign Systems in 1993. If they are indeed producing bricks again - and if they're the same size as the original bricks - I don't think they'll be compatible with Nanoblocks. Modulex bricks were based on a 5mm module, but I think Nanoblocks are 4mm.
-
So, five minifigures and a bigfig? This set is starting to sound expensive, not that that's going to stop me.
-
Visual reference: ...and that's about all we have so far. Both likely to be Landmark Series.
-
Yes, we will get more regular series too.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Ah, I see. Still, unless he works for or with LBR directly, I suspect none of those exclusives will turn up quite yet. -

^Nope, because all the information currently getting leaked is from the retailer catalog, which doesn't include LBR exclusives like the modulars. -

Again, they are making sure they have a strong holiday season - by making sure the stuff that's been out all year, the stuff that's already on the kids' wish lists, isn't getting crowded out by a bunch of new product at the last minute. -

2015 The LEGO Movie rumors and discussion
tafkatb replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Most of the January sets are "release-on-receipt," meaning they actually hit the shelves a week or two before Christmas. Even for the ones that don't, it makes perfect sense to have stuff released just after the holidays, so that sales pick up a little bit in the slow months of January and February - it takes a little bit of the edge off the typical feast-or-famine retail cycle. Also keep in mind that not every kid is religiously watching out for brand-new sets; most of them are populating their wish lists with things they saw earlier in the year, and if a whole slew of new products came out at peak shopping season, they would crowd all those items off the shelves.
