  1. Thanks everyone for the comments It wasn't intended as a 'serious' build, I just had a couple of hours spare and wanted to see what I could create in that time. I haven't built anything organic before so it's a bit of a steep learning curve. I might do something bigger when the Ewok Village goes on sale at a reasonable discount, and I can then add to it. Good luck to everyone with the contest, I'm sure that you'll do the Empire proud!
  2. Hi BJM If you're looking to buy tan bricks, have you tried Bricklink?: http://www.bricklink.com/ or alternatively the Lego 'Pick a Brick' site: http://shop.lego.com/en-GB/Pick-A-Brick-ByTheme. It's probably a more cost-effective option as you'll be able to order precisely what you need. To be honest Jabba's Palace doesn't include that much tan (and isn't that large) so unless you want it for the figures as well, I wouldn't recommend it
  3. Great work Bob, it's a beautiful design I've fixed the title for you, and....
  4. [soNE Freebuild] Deforestation.....well almost! I had a couple of hours spare last weekend and thought that it might be fun to have a bash at building a tree; this is my first attempt but I'm quite pleased with it! I quickly discovered that it's not easy to create a realistic looking trunk, but I found that the little 1x2 'log' parts help to break up the outline, and give it a bit of texture. I'm quite limited for green and brown parts (as I'm still waiting for a decent sale on the Ewok village), hint TLG.....! Lobot must retain his neutrality for this Episode, but can't resist the chance to help his Imperial comrades in the clearance of the site for the new Landing Platform. However, on arrival at Endor he quickly realises that he shouldn't have gone for the 17" chainsaw...... Lobot looking stern: Lobot looking stern (alternate view): Lobot looking stern (from another angle): Lobot about to give up: Bonus photo (not part of the Freebuild, but I spent ages building it for the Episode V banner!): Good luck my comrades, C & C welcome. Cheers, Robin
  5. I've just found a new multipack (66479)...whatever next, it's almost a logical combination! http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Toys-R-Us/Toys/Construction/Lego-Star-Wars-Value-Pack-66479(0048866)?searchPosition=0
  6. Hi Disco86, another great MOC, I'm not sure how you and markus1984 create them so quickly! I'd be really interested to see how you get such good lighting, are you using LEDs or some sort of rig? I've updated the title for you
  7. Hi kdenty, thanks for a comprehensive review It's certainly an improvement on the previous version, but I still prefer my trusty 10178. I totally agree about the new Snowtrooper skirts, they look awful, what were TLG thinking? I'll probably end up getting one when I find it at a decent discount!
  8. Yet another top-notch MOC markus, I don't know how you construct them so quickly! The lighting is perfect, and really adds to it.
  9. Good work Nom, the mech-suit looks great As a general note, if anyone is short on green/brown elements I'm sure that the Empire used a lot of concrete in their foundations...if they had sufficient resources to build two Death Stars it's only to be expected that they got a bit carried away with the specifications of the platform and generator as well!
  10. Thanks, that adds quite a lot of weight to the rumoured UCS Slave 1....
  11. I'm sorry that your disappointed with the Episode, I've spent a lot of time working on it. The idea is unique, as far as I'm concerned, as it's the first Episode where each faction has a totally different objective. I tried the balance the objectives of either side as much as possible, that's why I included the option of preparing for the mission. I also hoped that a different type of environment (e.g. Endor) would make an interesting change. As I've mentioned previously a lot of the SoNE team have been busy with their own lives, and it wasn't possible to finalise any change to the scoring system, but we'll try and update it for the next one.
  12. Yes, that's fine if you want to. The rules also allow for one of the photos to be photo-shopped as well
  13. And following on from my last post....!
  14. Hi I'm not sure that a lab would really meet the 'spirit' of the Episode. To be honest I''d imagined hangers, shuttles being loaded with construction equipment etc and I hope that you can build something suitable around that. For example, a small amount of 'experimentation' within the hanger would be ok; there's already an entry which includes something similar!
  15. Excellent work comrade, the design of the hanger and V38 are excellent, some lovely details And, it's great to see someone working on a method to clear the pesky flora & fauna from the site........
  16. Hi KeffFett2011 To deep-link a photo from another website (I use either brickshelf or flickr) you need to copy the URL (the file needs to be a .jpeg) > Next click on the 'Tree' icon on the post toolbar (bottom row, to the left of the double arrows!) > Next paste in the URL and click 'OK' > If it's linked correctly it should appear in the post. Ideally try to keep the images to about 800 x 600..... I hope that this helps; please feel free to PM if you have any other questions Cheers, Robin
  17. Great design, story and execution. Welcome to the Empire!
  18. [Review] 30247 ARC-170 Starfighter (mini) Details: Ages 6-12 RRP: N/A Parts: 58 (approx) Introduction: There are lots of disadvantages about living in the UK; the climate, the weather, winter and endless congestion to name just a few, but just occasionally it’s all worthwhile. For some reason we seem to get a free Lego promotion a couple of times a year via one of the national newspapers. And yes, you’ve guessed it, this week we have another selection including the new ARC-170 Starfighter. This is the second Star Wars polybag that’s included in the promotion; I’ve already made a review of 30246 (Imperial Shuttle) which you can see here. The bag: Standard size polybag, with the new slightly scary looking Darth Vader. Personally I prefer it to the previous (Yoda) version, and seems to compliment most of the sets I’ve seen. The Starfighter is flying over an unknown planet and, as you’d expect, is firing at an unseen foe. I like the colours and it’s just as good as the Imperial Shuttle. Part selection: A total of 58 (ish) including around 3-4 spares. A nice selection of parts which I’m sure would be appreciated by most builders. As with the shuttle there are lots of smaller parts, but it includes a few dark-red and black bits which I’m sure I can find a use for. Instructions: Standard format for polybags, it’s a bit smaller than A4 and double-sided. The model is built in 19 separate sections and is quite fun considering the small size, a maximum of 5 minutes effort. It’s a little more complicated than the shuttle, but most adults should be able to cope! I’ve included both sides just incase you wanted to replicate it via your parts bin. The result: It’s a nice little model and a good replica of the original. However, it’s very nose heavy and I had to hastily construct a stand for the photo. It’s a bit of a shame really, I can see younger fans being upset by this; to be honest the min X-Wing we had a few years ago was far superior. Apart from that I can’t really fault it, especially considering the price point... I got this for 60p, including a nice paper to line my recycling bin with. Summary: Cost: 5/5 – A total bargain Parts: 4/5 – A nice selection of parts, including some dark-red and black Build: 4/5 – Moderately interesting, although a bit fiddly at times Model: 3/5 – Instantly recognisable, surprisingly detailed for such a small set Balance: 1/5 – Good fun to swish, but very nose heavy. Overall 17/25 or 68% if you prefer.
  19. Hi, I've merged your topics together and updated the title to confirm that it's a work in progress
  20. And remember, if you're having trouble with trees (or just happen to have all of your green otherwise occupied, markus ) there's always the option of constructing a hanger bay, shuttle or transporter....! It's almost like I had it planned, good luck my Imperial brothers
  21. [Review] 30246: Imperial Shuttle (mini) Details: Ages 6-12 RRP: N/A Parts: 59 Introduction: There are lots of disadvantages about living in the UK; the climate, the weather, winter and endless congestion to name just a few, but just occasionally it’s all worthwhile. For some reason we seem to get a free Lego promotion a couple of times a year via one of the national newspapers. And yes, you’ve guessed it, this week we have another selection including the new Imperial Shuttle. To be honest, it’s never going to be a UCS 10212, but for 60p (the cost of the paper) I’m really quite impressed. So what do you get for such a reasonable investment, read on and find out.... The bag: Standard size polybag, showing the Shuttle in it’s glory, which is actually quite similar to the UCS version thinking about it! The landing platform and dish were the only highlights of Endor for me, but moving on... Part selection: A total of 57 (ish) including two spares. Nothing that amazing, but a nice mix of useful parts. Instructions: Standard format for polybags, it’s a bit smaller than A4 and double-sided. The model is built in 13 separate sections and is quite fun considering the small size, a maximum of 5 minutes effort. I’ve included both sides just incase you wanted to replicate it via your parts bin. The result: Bearing in mind this was essentially free (I use the paper for my recycling bin) I can’t fault it. It’s quite an interesting build and is instantly recognisable. The model is quite sturdy, and great fun to swoosh. Highly recommended if you haven’t got the space for a larger version! Summary: Cost: 5/5 – A total bargain Parts: 4/5 – Nothing special but a good selection of different elements Built: 3/5 – Not bad considering the limited size Model: 3/5 – Instantly recognisable, surprisingly detailed Overall 15/20 or 75% if you prefer.
  22. As both factions have different objectives, and aren't directly competing, there aren't any planets available in this Episode. Within reason you can travel anywhere you want to contact the Bothans as it's a covert operation. Tatooine might be a good option, or somewhere similar that's not under total Imperial control! However, as explained in the rules it doesn't necessarily need to be a planet; meetings on ships etc would be fine as well......!
  23. Hi kongman, and welcome to Eurobricks! The instructions should be in a .pdf format, so provided that you've got Adobe installed you should be able to view them ok. If you buy them from Anio he'll send you a link, which you can download a copy from. I've got a copy of Anio's UCS Slave 1 instructions, and they're highly professional and well worth the cost. I haven't tried to upload the part list into Bricklink, but I'm sure that other members could advise (or alternatively Google might be of help!!)
  24. We're currently working on it, but it shouldn't be too difficult to guess I'd forgotten that 'Secret Plans' was used in it, honestly!! I had a random thought of some stormtroopers carrying chainsaws one day, and built up the concept for the Episode from there. Re: the rule changes, we haven't forgotten but most of us are very busy at the moment (Doc especially) so we'll hopefully do something about it for the next Episode.... Don't forget H&S though, chainsaws and strimmers are probably more appropriate, otherwise it could be a rather substantial forest fire
  25. Rebels General Madine: “Right chaps, it’s imperative that we find out what the Empire is planning to construct. We cannot allow them to succeed; we must make every attempt to locate and destroy it, whatever it is. General Rieekan: “How are we going to do that, we don’t have the resources to commit to an extensive search? General Madine: “I’ve heard that several Bothans may be sympathetic to the Rebellion, and they’re renowned for their spying abilities, so they would be the perfect for such a mission” General Rieekan: “And how are we supposed to make contact with them, they could be anywhere” General Madine: “I have a few potential leads, we’ll deploy several teams across the galaxy to try and make contact with them” General Rieekan: “Right, I’ll gather any troops that I can find, and brief them” "I don't suppose that you're a Bothan spy by any chance?" Rebel Objectives: Your primary aim is to search for, and make contact with the Bothan sympathisers. You can travel to any part of the galaxy where the Bothans are rumoured to be located; your entry should depict one of the following: The search for the Bothans, this can include any method of travel The first contact with them, in any suitable location Negotiations and initial briefing Imperials: Admiral Piett: “Right then, the Emperor has decided to build another Death Star... and this time we’re going to actually protect it with an impenetrable shield!” Imperial Officer: “Wow, that’s just genius, why didn’t we think of that before? Is the shield going to be generated from inside it?” Admiral Piett: “No, that’s going to be far too expensive, so we’ve decided to construct a small & badly protected shield generator on a nearby moon instead” Imperial Officer: “Fair enough, what’s the plan?” Admiral Piett: “I want you to lead a team to survey an area we’ve provisionally identified, and to start construction of both the shield generator and landing platform. Our remote sensing indicates that the moon is devoid of any intelligent, or plausible, life-forms but you have my permission to neutralise anything you encounter that could hinder our progress” "Is it me or did I just see an armed teddy bear?" Imperial Objectives: Your primary aim is to travel to the moon of Endor, as part of a small Imperial team. Your entry should depict any of the following: Preparing for the mission Surveying the site for the shield generator and landing pad Clearing the site in preparation for the construction (including removal of any native inhabitants if required) Start the construction of the shield generator or landing pad Rules From the Core Rules Your faction will receive points based on two factors: Points: The average number of points per builder. Builders: Two points for each builder. These two totals are added to each other, and the faction with the higher total is the winner. All the players on the winning team will receive this tag to commemorate their victory You can only have one of these tags or one of the Community Build tags at a time, but a log will be kept of all the tags you've earned in your profile in the Characters topic. The player who receives the most total individual points, regardless of team, is guaranteed a spot among the next set of the blog's Showcased MOCs. (This member must still be able to provide a picture big enough and of suitable quality to be used in the Showcased banner.) You will receive XP equal to the number of points you are awarded from the judges. Episode v Rules (all rules in the Core Rules topic apply): The Episode will run from 10th May to 21st June. As long as it's still 21st June somewhere in the world, you can still enter. All entries must be built from real LEGO or with Lego Digital Designer LDD). No clone brands, no third-party custom parts. All entries must be posted as a new topic in the Watto's Junkyard subforum, the title prefixed by, '[soNE Ep. V]'. (For example, '[soNE Ep. V] Survey of the site'). Entries can be of any size, and must meet at least one of the objectives for your faction. Remember to make your entry appropriate to your rank and goal. From the Core Rules: Your build will be scored in two stages, to make it easier on the judges by lessening the number of builds that must be scored in greater detail: In the first stage, the judges will award a score from 1-10, with a '1' being "Minifig on a Plate", a '5' being "Your Average MOC" and a '10' being "Flawless Concept and Execution". In the second stage, the top five builds of each faction (so ten in total) from the first stage will be scored based on basic predetermined criteria: up to 10 points for the concept and appropriateness to the objective, up to 25 points for your execution of the build, and up to 5 points for your presentation of the entry. For builders who make it to the second stage, their second stage total is added to their first stage points, and that total is divided by two. You can earn a maximum of 25 points in each episode. The amount of points you earn is also the amount of XP your character earns. Entries posted after the deadline will be disqualified from the episode and will not be eligible to receive XP. This episode/contest is open to all players of Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka, even if they joined EB or signed up for the game after the episode has begun, with the exception of the Star Wars staff, who are not eligible to win XP or prizes; the EB admins and moderators, who are not eligible to win prizes but may earn XP; and the episode host, who is not eligible to win prizes but may earn XP. One entry per member. All entries must be new creations, not posted anywhere else prior to being entered in the episode. You may be asked by a staff member to change your entry if it is too similar to an earlier creation. Post pictures no larger than 1000x720, as specified in the EB Member Guidelines. You may do a 'full-blown photo edit' with all the text, effects, background compositing, support erasing, and other effects on one picture. All your other pictures may have no editing other than colour adjustment or background removal for a solid-colour background. For obvious reasons, any photo editing that changes the shape, functionality, or colour (not tint or adjustment, but actual colour) of a LEGO piece is prohibited. All entries are considered WIPs (Works In Progress) until the deadline passes. Until the deadline has passed, you are allowed to change and improve your MOC.
