Right, that's it, I think it's now the 22nd across the entire of the world, so Episode V is now closed. Thanks to everyone who participated. I hope that you enjoyed it, and that the Rebels eventually find their way back from the depths of the outer rim! We'll try and get the results announced in the next couple of weeks

Good work Lego Spy, although this Episode seems to be getting a little one-sided! I like the concept, the different layers of vegetation, and even ewok lurking in the corner. Is the tree shadow photo-shopped? It looks very good either way!

I'm pleased to announce that BEAVeR has agreed to join our blogging team. Regular visitors to the Star Wars forum will be aware of BEAVeR's masterful LDD rendering skills, amazingly comprehensive posts and love of Wampas! I'm sure he'll make a great addition to the team, welcome BEAVeR!

A final reminder that the closing date for Episode V is tomorrow! We've had some great entries so far, but there's still time to enter; so get building (or searching for the, apparently, very elusive Bothans!)

Hi Darth Reaper and welcome to Eurobricks! For future refence, we have a thread for general questions which is pinned at the top of the SW forum. I'll merge this thread with it in a bit -
Good work VK-318, the Imperials could win this one yet! It's always good to see something out of the ordinary, and you've done a great job of depicting the construction of the landing platform with a minimum of parts. Obviously, there's a few issues with the scale for re-creating foliage, but the micro-shredder is very cute!
-
Good work LucasLaughing, and another build for the Empire I'm not sure what's happened to the Rebels, but it looks like it could finally be an Imperial white-wash! The foliage is very good, and it has an Endor 'feel' with dense ferns and the trailing vines
-
I really like this goatman461, it's well thought out and constructed The exhaust port and grab look typically efficient, and equipment that the Empire would use. I'm not totally sure about the Paploo(?), but that's BEAVeR's fault...my resolve for hating ewoks has diminished somewhat recently! Also, it might be worth creating a (black or dark brown) recess for the exhaust port to sit in?

Just a quick reminder that there’s only one week left!
-
This is one of my favourite entries so far, you’ve set the bar very high! I particularly like the planet in the background, with the smaller ships heading towards it, a great finishing touch
-
A very touching story, but I'm not sure that it's good for Imperial morale
-
Hi, photo as requested. It's quite a nice design, but there's an ugly gap on the left-hand side where the sliding door is situated. The moisture evaporator is attached to it via single clip. Cheers, Robin

Just a quick reminder to everyone that you have 2 weeks left.... and I'm looking for MOCs to blog

As promised a couple of bonus photos: 4 shades of dirt: Comparison photo (left-right) Standard version, 9490 x 2 and 75052. Actually they all blend together quite nicely, or perhaps it's my failing eyesight! The newer version has a new block of black printing on the top-right of his torso, although I'm not sure what it's supposed to be: Tatooine collection: This should help to give a better idea of the scale. I've included Jabba's Palace and a few extra minifigures to add to the atmosphere. And, yes, if you look closely Han is (quite rightly) shooting first! Cheers, Robin

Thanks for the comments everyone, I'm glad you liked my review. I'll try and take some more photos when I get a moment this weekend, including the elusive Sandtrooper! Oh, and rollermonkey, I'm quite aware how small the old one was...and I've even handled a MISB version. And, in my considered opinion, it's small

I think that the main reason is that I’ve long coveted the older version (4501) which was previously the only set to include a Greedo. I’d tried to source one at a reasonable cost, and although I’d bid up to £110 for a MISB set on a couple of occasions on Ebay, it was never enough. So, at a very reasonable £64.99 this seemed like a bargain (especially compared to Jabba’s Palace (9516) at £124.99!) I’ll never understand Lego’s pricing policy, but I digress.... I normally look for discounts of around 20% on SW sets, but I was so keen to get this, I ordered it as soon as it was available from the Lego website. The box: The box is surprisingly long and wide but unusually shallow (53.5cm x 28cm x 5.5cm). This is a great looking box, the dark blue background works well with the set colouring. I really like the new Darth Vader banner, which is a great improvement on last years effort. The back includes the standard call-outs to demonstrate all of the functions of the set. Top marks for this, one of my favourite designs of any SW set Front of the box: Back of the box: Contents: On opening the box, you’ll find 5 numbered bags, plus an additional one for the Dewback. Also included are two instruction books and the (curved) pipework for the landspeeder (x3), plus a small DSS. The salmon pink parts are very eye-catching, shortly followed by the new Dewback. There’s a really nice selection of parts, and a few ones that I haven’t encountered before. Minifigures: I’ll get this over with first, as I’m sure that it’s probably the most interesting part of the set for many. As we expected, it contains 8 minifigures, (Greedo, Han Solo, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, Sandtrooper & 3 x Bith Musicians), plus the Dewback. Only Han Solo isn’t new, the others are a mixed bag as far as I’m concerned. I love the new Greedo, he’s just awesome! I’ve said it before that I think that the degree of printing on new figures is getting too much...but somehow Greedo seems to get away with it. He’s beautifully detailed, but it’s not distracting, and I’m sure he’ll be highly regarded by collectors. The new Sandtrooper isn’t too bad, Ben is quite cute, Luke looks a bit too haggered, but I really don’t like the Biths! Perhaps it’s just me, but they look really scary...I find the black soul-less eyes really disturbing, but enough of my problems! I’m not sure about the new Dewback; I prefer the old one to be honest (as he was far cuter!!). And, yes, I forgot to include the Sandtrooper in the photos but I was trying to get everything finished before I lost the daylight! He’s very similar to the versions in 9490, although the splotches of ‘dirt’ are less defined. The usual suspects: The scary Biths: The Dewback & Sandtrooper: The build: I’ve taken photos of the set at 15 page intervals: The result: I really like this set, it was fun to build and there’s lots of nice little touches. The design of the moisture evaporator is top-notch and I like the idea of the water trough at the back. Oddly both of the seating compartments slide forward (they’re connected to the trough!), I’m not sure why, but I suppose it might be fun for youngsters. The landspeeder is a very similar design to the one is 8092, but the new colours are great, and it’s my favourite version to date. As you’ve probably seen it’s all hinged, which allows it to be closed in on itself, but it feels surprisingly sturdy. The complete set: Close-up of the minifigures (well, most of them!): Conclusion: It’s a great little set, and is packed with features, minifigures and, of course, the new Dewback. However, to be honest, I think that the only problem with it is that it’s little. For a RRP of £64.99 it’s expensive, but most of the new sets seem to be. In my opinion, it will be a total bargain at 25% off, and I intend to get one or two more in the future when I find a decent sale. Scores are always subjective, but here’s my own thoughts: Minifigures: 8/10 – Greedo is the highlight, but Luke looks odd and the Biths scare me, Dewback is too detailed. Landspeeder: 8/10 – The Landspeeder is the best yet, the Cantina contains some nice little details and is fun to build, but a bit small Playability: 8/10 – Lots of fun for the average youngster, and I’d have loved this when I was a lot younger Part selection: 9/10 – A really nice selection of parts, a few I haven’t seen before and the salmon pink is great! Price: 7/10 – Compared to the aftermarket price of 4501 it’s a bargain, but in reality it’s still pretty expensive for 1kg of Lego Overall: 80% I hope that you enjoyed the review, C&C welcome

From memory, the only ones that are visible are on the mandibles; everything in the main part of the ship is hidden. As I mentioned previously, if you're buying new there isn't that much difference in the cost of (other) colours from Bricklink, compared to ordering the correct colours from the Lego website!!
-
This is beautiful Jerac, a genuine masterpiece! And (already)....
-
Hi Dino I don't know if you've seen my thread on it? I tried to use the correct colours where it was sensible (and cost effective!). I ended up having around 300 parts that were different colours (connector pins, rigging, levers etc) and the total cost was £600 although I insisted on buying new, so it could have been done cheaper. I used the Lego website for a lot of the technic parts, and they were in the correct colours (and similar to the Bricklink costs for other colours) so I didn't find any advantage in not doing so. I itemised the parts I'd exchanged in my thread, which might be a useful starting point. I hope that this helps, Robin

Thanks for the comments everyone, I'm glad you like it MstrOfPppts - I'd originally planned to use the Death Star 'Hologram' part from 75017 (part 3062bpb042) but even with my best attempts at photography it looked rubbish! In my defence the printing is very feint (slightly darker orange against an orange background!) so Masked suggested we use the CW version from set 8039, which just happens to be 'Minifig, Head with Gold Death Star Pattern' so you're spot on!! And, as Bob said, if anyone wants to do a touch of LDD customisation of minifigures that's fine, provided that it's trying to replicate an original figure. I'm happy to be a bit more relaxed about the Ewoks (as they're cannon fodder anyway!! )
-
And here's what you've all been waiting to see....... Thanks to Masked Builder & Bob, for their help with it
-
Thanks, t's always nice to be appreciated! If you're interested in what I'm hoping to achieve with the tag, have a look at my CB folder in Brickshelf....the actual version will be a different design, and hopefully suitably edited Re: the printing, I'll make a decision for this Episode: that's fine with me, provided that you're only trying to replicate an official Lego print style for the minifigures...I don't want to see any random/specialist/bounty hunter/special ops etc!!!! Hi, I'm sorry that the rules weren't 100% clear on this (and to be honest I hadn't considered it!), but I don't think that freebuilds anywhere for this Episode are in the spirit of the game. As mentioned previously there's several thousand km2 of Endor which should be enough to keep you busy
-
Hi, I'll have a word with the rest of the team, but my initial thoughts are as follows: - I'm not sure what you mean by 'custom decorations'? As far as LDD is concerned, I think the rule we agreed was that if it was a real part/colour that's fine, otherwise not. - The tag has been a bit of a nightmare to be honest. I tried to do something which didn't work, but Masked Builder has helped out and all it needs is a slight photoshop 'tweak' from Doc. It's going to be something like 3062bpb042! - Doc's been very busy as you've probably gathered and I've been doing what I can; the blog, keeping the forum tidy and also updating the first post on the 2014 rumours thread which took several hours this weekend....! I'm sorry that it's not ideal, but I'm sure Doc will have a lot more free time soon, so we should be able to catch up a bit! - Re: the freebuilds, I'm not sure I see the point of building on another planet...especially when it hasn't been covered in one of the main Episodes yet? You've got the entire of Endor to explore anyway!!
