  1. Hi General Magma As there's already a similar thread about this, I'll merge this with it in a bit In reply to your query, it's a great set and well worth obtaining if you can either Bricklink it or buy one complete for a reasonable price. However, I'd be concerned that if you end up sourcing the white parts from a range of sets (and suppliers) it may look a little odd! I bought mine new when it was first available and it's definitely more a light-cream rather than white, but at least it's consistent!
  2. We already have one for general SW sets which should be fine (link) - I don't think there's any need for a UCS-specific one
  3. Hi Spud The Viking None spring to mind, but as La Chupacabra suggested Google is probably a good starting point. For future reference there's a general Q&A thread pinned to the top of this forum which is ideal for this sort of thing. I'll merge this thread with it in a bit
  4. As this isn't related at all to SW LEGO, I think it's best to lock it.
  5. Great work, Richpepperell! It's good to see that others are similiarly minded! I've been planning on buying several of the sets as soon as they're available at a decent discount, and then buidling something considerably larger with them! I especially like the top section, but the 'claws' look a little too big - have you tried any alternatives to the 1 x 4 slopes? I'd be tempted to step it down to a single 1 x 3 slope for each one, using a jumper or similar. Oh, and if you're looking for spare parts Tesco.com currently have Final Duel (75093) at £44.98!
  6. Hi Jackad7 For future reference there's a general SW Q&A thread pinned to the top of the forum. I'll merge this, and your other threads, into it shortly
  7. I'm really disappointed by this set It had the potential to be something really special, but it's anything but. I really don't see how TLG can justify the price point - at £220 in the UK it's only slightly cheaper than the UCS Sandcrawler! It just looks far too small to justify the cost; I've said it before but the set would have been so much better if they'd used the bulk of the elements on the hanger and blast doors. I think I'm going to pass on this, at least in the short term. Hopefully it won't be an 'exclusive' so that it will be on sale at 20% at some point. I might be a bit more interested then!
  8. Looking at the photos again, I'll be interested to see what the UK cost will be; although it's a similar part count to the Ewok Village it does seem to be a lot smaller overall. I've been in two minds about the EV ever since it was first available, and after tonight I've almost convinced myself that it's a better option than this. Although it has a decent range of minifigures, I get the feeling it could be in the £180-£200 range, anything above that would be ridiculous. I sold all of my older Hoth sets when I saw the first mention of a UCS Hoth set - in hindsight I don't think that I should have bothered!
  9. I'm a little disappointed to be honest, it just looks like a series of playsets merged together. I was hoping that TLG would make the main hanger and blast doors a decent size but, as many predicted, they have wasted a lot of the part count on pointless add-ons like the snowspeeder and wampa 'cave' Perhaps it will look better in the official photos; but the Ewok Village is suddenly looking a lot more interesting! I'm guessing that it will be £200 in the UK; I certainly won't be buying one if it's above that.
  10. Hi Efe, and welcome to Eurobricks! Unfortunately the OT stormtroopers tend to have a 'premium' but personally I much prefer them. The newer First Order minifigures are likely to be readily available to buy in the next few years so that may be something to consider, especially if you want to army build. For future reference there's a general SW Q&A thread pinned to the top of the forum. I'll merge this with it in a bit
  11. Hi Jayoheazy For future reference there's a general SW Q&A thread pinned to the top of the forum. I'll merge this with it in a bit Personally I couldn't ever bring myself to flatten boxes, hence why my hobby room has large stacks of boxes (most still in their outer shipping ones!) but I can appreciate that it would save a lot of space. As others have said, a decent quality craft knife is a good idea to open boxes; I use a Leatherman which is ideal.
  12. Hi CommanderBacara, and welcome to Eurobricks! We already have a 'Future Star Wars Sets' thread which you can access via the main index. I'll merge this thread with it in a bit
  13. As interesting as the recent discussion have been about Snoke etc, please can we stay on target And, thanks for the news about Rogue 1, Jedi-Bendu. I'm quite looking forward to see what TLG do with it, especially if it's closely aligned with the OT era....
  14. Based on experience the pricing of sets can be a contentious issue, so in-depth discussions are probably best avoided! If not, there's quite a high likelihood that we'll have dozens of posts comparing the differing costs across the world. It's one of the 'complications' of having such a such a diverse membership, as everyone will be affected differently. I'm not going to try and explain why there are apparent anomalies in the costs of certain sets in different countries, even allowing for exchange rates, it's just one of those things we have to live with and I think it's fair to say that there have been numerous discussions about it in the past which haven't really achieved much, hence my posts. For example, just look at the current Falcon (75105); the RRP in the UK is £129.99, so based on the current exchange rates the cost should be around: US - $185 (actually $149.99) Euro - €171 (actually €149.99) Australia - $261 (actually $249.99) I hope that helps to clarify my earlier comments
  15. Just a little reminder about my earlier post..... Whilst I appreciate that the pricing of sets is always going to be of interest, please can we keep the discussions to a minimum and focus on the sets instead
  16. Whilst I appreciate that the pricing of sets is always going to be of interest, please can we keep the discussions to a minimum and focus on the sets instead I'm really looking forward to seeing some better photos of the new Advent Calendar; usually I can't muster much enthusiasm for them, but this one seems to be in a totally different league!
  17. Well, it appears that TLG are going to give me a Christmas that I've long dreamt of! A Bespin Guard, plus what looks rather like an E-3PO, in the Advent Calendar - that's got to be a good indication that we're destined for some Cloudy City sets! I'm going to be buying multiples of this, great work TLG!
  18. I think that it's time to lock this thread
  19. I don't think this needs a dedicated thread so I'll merge it with the General Q&A in a bit
  20. I don't think this needs a dedicated thread so I'll merge it with the General Q&A in a bit In reply to your question they're both great sets, but personally I prefer the Slave 1.
  21. Thanks for the comments everyone, I'm glad that you liked my review That makes more sense! I was working on the basis that it was just a basic 'play feature' considering the age range of the theoretical target audience (7-12!)... although as you say it should be able to re-tract into the wall rather than pivot. I get the feeling that it will be quite popular (even if it's just because of the minifigures) and am hoping that it may lead to better, and larger, Cloud City sets in the near future. However, I'm eternally optimistic about anything Cloud City-related so time will tell....
  22. Hi Smitty500, I don't think this needs a dedicated thread, so I'll merge it in a bit with the general Q&A one pinned to the top of the forum
  23. Hi DonRelicbane, and welcome to Eurobricks! That's a very good question, and I'm sure that you'll get a variety of answers! In my opinion 10236 is a nice set (apart from the ewoks!) but it isn't a UCS. Generally for me, the set either has to be an accurate replica of the original ship etc (e.g. 10240 UCS X-Wing or 75059 Sandcrawler) or one of the earlier 'bust' types (e.g. Yoda and Darth Maul). For future reference there's a Q&A thread pinned to the top of the forum. I'll merge this with it in a bit
  24. Hi Ketekno, and welcome to Eurobricks! You can host the image on another website (e.g. flickr or Brickshelf) and then embed the image if that's easier. For future reference there's a Q&A thread pinned to the top of the forum. I'll merge this with it in a bit
  25. Official S@H Description: Help Han Solo escape his frozen prison! Han Solo has been taken to the Carbon-Freezing Chamber and is about to be frozen in a block of solid carbonite! Can he defeat Boba Fett and escape or will he be frozen for all eternity by the Ugnaught? Only you can decide. • Includes 3 minifigures: Han Solo, Boba Fett and an Ugnaught. • Features a control center, freeze bed with freeze function, staircase and an elevator. • Lift Boba Fett into position with the elevator so he can keep guard. • Pull the knob to engage the freeze function. • Includes Boba Fett’s blaster. • Also includes Boba Fett’s helmet • Recreate unforgettable scenes from Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. • Measures over 5” (13cm) high (with carbonite bed raised), 7” (18cm) wide and 5” (14cm) deep. Box size: 26cm x 19cm x 6cm Weight: Approx 363g Parts: 231 Price: £19.99 (UK) Year of release: 2016 Introduction Longer-term members of Eurobricks will probably be aware that I’m just ever so slightly obsessed by all things Cloud City, so when I heard the first rumours of a new Freezing-Chamber set I was rather excited by the prospect. Did it meet my high expectations? Well, read on and find out! I’ve said it before, but I really don’t understand TLG’s apparent disinterest for Cloud City, especially when you consider the huge array of sets that have been made since 1999. Several of which seem to have very little appeal to anyone (e.g. 7111, 8012, 7252, 6205 and 75024 to name just a few!) and yet whilst we’ve had multiple Droid carriers, AT-ATs, AT-STs, X-Wings, Y-Wings etc, if I recall correctly there’s only been three previous Cloud City-based sets: Firstly, we had 7119 (Twin-Pod Cloud Car) which although adorable is seriously out-dated, 10123 (Cloud City) which is looking similarly a little ‘tired’ these days if I’m being honest, and finally 9678 (Twin-Pod Cloud Car & Bespin) which was released in 2012. Considering that Cloud City takes up a decent percentage of the screen-time in The Empire Strikes Back (aka Episode V) that’s a pretty dismal show over a 15 year period in my opinion I’d always wanted a 10123, but I just couldn’t bring myself to spend the sort of money that a MISB version cost when I left my dark-ages a few years ago, and the cost has spiraled upwards ever-since. I kept thinking that a new version would be produced and, after 5 years of waiting, my dreams have been realised, well sort of, with the release of a brand new and shiny Cloud City-based set for 2016! I'd intended to buy this from Shop at Home as soon as it was available, but it seems to have been on a continual ‘back-order’ since the start of January, so I ended up picking it up from a local store. I usually wait for a decent sale before buying sets for my personal collection, but I was happy to pay the full RRP for it. The box Ok, I’ll admit that I’m a bit biased about this, but it’s a thing of beauty! They’ve captured the feel of the scene really well and, if it wasn’t for Kylo Ren lurking in the top-right corner, it would be just about perfect. The reverse is just as good, with a nice array of images showing specific details and play-features of the set. Top marks TLG designers, the box-art for SW sets keeps raising the bar The contents My initial impression was that it was worth the cost; it’s quite heavy for that price point at about 363g (especially compared to the new Escape Pod). The box is almost filled with two bags plus a set of instructions. The great news is that the set is DSS (Dreaded Sticker Sheet) free! Another TLG oddity is the lack of consistency in the back (numbering) styles; I’m sure that there’s a reason why each of the bags are different but it does seem a little strange! The set consists of 231 parts and there’s a nice array of LBG, DBG, Trans-Orange and Black. It also includes a Dark red 4x6 plate, and a bright Yellow Technic axle which I haven’t encountered before – an interesting addition! The instructions The build Firstly apologies for the rubbish photos. In keeping with my previous reviews, the weather in the UK is typically dismal at the moment and best described as ‘grey and overcast’! The instruction booklet is 68 pages and is broken into 75 steps. I’ve included photos at around 15 page intervals. Page 15 - The partially built Technic assembly to raise/lower/rotate the Carbonite block Page 30 - Technic assembly completed and Chamber platform partially built. Note the torture chamber(?) located on the bottom-right of the set which uses the 4 x 6 Dark red plate. Page 45 - Most of the platform built, part of the elevator in progress Page 58 - The end result. Your own, small but perfectly formed Carbon-Freezing Chamber! The minifigures This will probably be the most interesting part for most; according to Bricklink 3 of the minigures are new. Firstly we have everyone’s favourite bounty Hunter, Boba Fett, who is virtually identical to the version included in the £170 UCS Slave 1. Apart from a lack of arm-printing he looks identical (as shown below) so personally if I didn’t already own the UCS set I’d be more that happy with this as an alternative! Next we have an Ugnaught which is the first ever time that it’s been made in a LEGO form, and the designers have done a great job. I wasn’t too impressed when I saw the initial images, but he’s just about perfect. I would have liked to see him with a spanner (or possibly a white toolbag, but that probably just shows my age and fondness for the old Kenner minifigures) but you can’t have everything. Han (and carbonite) look very similar to the version in the UCS Slave 1 and Jabba’s Palace. The Unusual Suspects Reverse view - not the prettiest....! Comparison - New version (75137 left) and older UCS (75060 right) Summary Previous comments and reviews have highlighted the size, or lack of it. I agree that it isn’t massive, but personally I think that its great value. For £19.99 you get 3 minifigures (or 4 if you include the Carbonite!), a nice mix of 230 parts and a set that which feels solid and is a reasonable replica of the ESB scene. Functions wise, there’s a basic elevator to the right-side of it which is moved up and down via a small lever, and a Technic axle/assembly which enables you to either rotate the Carbonite block around, or move it below the level of the main platform. To be honest, the latter doesn’t work that amazingly, but it could be fun for little ones. In addition, there’s an odd 2x4 black plate which twists on a pivot and the box indicates that Han should be attached to it! I assume that it’s an attempt at replicating the torture room, but I could be wrong! Overall, it’s a great set and my scores are as follows: Minifigures: 8/10 – New Ugnaught (finally!) plus the chance to own a new Boba Fett at a reasonable cost. Parts: 8/10 – For this price point it includes a great selection of parts; lots of Greys, Black and Trans-Orange. The full parts list is available on Bricklink. Design: 8/10 – A great little set, which feels quite solid. The consol and pipes located on the side of the structure are nice additions. Playability: 7/10 - Not bad for a little playset and I’m sure that the target audience (7-12 year olds!) would have quite a lot of fun with it Value: 8/10 – Considering that the former wave of SW sets of a similar size (AAT & T-16 Skyhopper) were both £24.99, this seems very reasonable at £19.99 in the UK. That’s 78% if my maths is any good! C&Cs welcome; I hope that you enjoyed my review
