I highly recommend it, please refer to my post below! -
I don't think it would look that good, but I'm ready to be proved wrong.... that sort of expanse of LBG just seems too much. However, the DS II is a great set to Bricklink (and relatively cheap compared to a lot of others unless the parts are a lot more expensive than a couple of years ago). You'll just need to ensure that you don't ever touch it once it's finished though!

[MOD] UCS Slave 1 (anti-droop/bend when on stand)
Lobot replied to ArchieNov's topic in LEGO Star Wars
No set is perfect, but it's definitely one of my favourite UCS sets. I only displayed mine for a week (before my usual fear of dust and light damage persuaded me to return it to the safety of its original box!) but my initial impressions were that it was a solid design. I really enjoyed building it, although perhaps the underside greebling is a little 'sparse' compared to the original model. Personally, I would have preferred a slightly higher price-point to remedy this, if the production cost was an issue. However, the box art is without question the best of any set I've owned, it's just beautiful  -
Hi dmaclego, thanks for sharing this, it's genuinely stunning! The working chin-guns on the AT-AT remind me of the original Kenner toy from the 1980's (albeit in red, rather than transparent plastic!) and it brought back some great memories of my childhood. I had a look at the other photos in your flickr album yesterday and I was as equally impressed by the landing platform. It's an interesting method that you've used to construct the main supports, and one that uses a lot of parts, but the result is amongst the best that I've seen. I look forward to seeing more updates

Hi Batsy Personally I'd chose the Imperial Shuttle as it's a nice set; it includes a decent array of minifigures and it looks the best value of all those that you mention. It was recently available in the UK at about 30% off and if you can find it at that sort of discount it's a definate bargain! For future reference there's a general Q&A thread pinned to the top of the forum; I'll merge this with it in a bit -

Hi Rusted, and welcome to Eurobricks! I built my UCS Slave 1 back in January and I was impressed by how 'solid' the completed model was. I only kept it on display for a week before it was carefully disassembled but I can't imagine that it's going to be a problem. I have both the X-Wing and Slave 1 and personally I much prefer the latter; it's interesting to build, looks great and the box art is stunning! My only slight criticism is that some of the curves on the lower part look a little 'unfinished' and the underside could be improved by some additional greebling, but the quality of the rest of the model more than makes up for it. PS, I've removed your original thread as requested -
If you're only interested in the minifigures, it may be prudent to check Bricklink (or Ebay) as you can usually find them considerably cheaper than buying a complete set (especially when they've just been released!). Jawa's are also included in the 2015 Advent calendar, so they're already quite inexpensive and the cost should continue to drop as more sets are parted out (link)

Apologies for the delay, but a very well deserved....

Hi It's entirely possible to Bricklink a UCS 10179, but the cost will depend greatly upon how accurate you want it to be. I've built two of them in the last couple of years; I sourced everything new but made several replacements and the total was £600 - £625. From other attempts I've seen recently some of the rarer parts are getting quite prohibitive, so you may need to make some more compromises, it's up to you, although buying used parts will help. There's several threads about it, here's a few to start with http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=67818 http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=80053 http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=114619 For future reference, there's a general Q&A thread pinned to the top of the forum. Thanks for the link, CM4Sci. If the set is anything like that it's very disappointing, and I certainly won't be ordering it! I was really hoping that it would be substantial at that price point, similar to the Ewok village, but I guess that it will be quite 'fragmented' (e.g. hangar, snowspeeder, trench, ION cannon, wampa, speeder bikes etc) and it will essentially look like several smaller play sets thrown together.... so I'm not sure how it could possibly justify the UCS label. I've actually just sold all of my older Hoth sets (including the awful 7879) to make some room for this, but it looks like I shouldn't have bothered!

My UCS Sandcrawler arrived yesterday and I'm actually impressed by the size of the box; it's bigger and heavier than I'd imagined. The artwork is excellent and in my top 10 sets of all time; the colours of the sunset(s) really add something to it. I'm on holiday all of next week and I'm almost tempted to break the seals on it...

It's interesting to see the mixed comments, I'm almost reassured that it's not just me! I had a couple of the old Sandcrawlers and quite enjoyed building them, but the new version doesn't have that 'can't wait to build it' appeal for me. To be honest the box-art is the main attraction for me, the colours are wonderful, but I'm probably a bid odd like that!
-
I've just ordered the UCS Sandcrawler whilst the double VIP points are available (plus the holiday train). I've been in two minds about it, as it's basically a large brown box, but hopefully I'll be a little more enthused when I finally see it! I get the feeling that it hasn't sold that well as it's always in stock, so it may not be around forever and I was determined to not pay the inevitable 'premium' after-market cost for one

[WIP] Any feedback before I complete this Imperial Star Destroyer?
Lobot replied to Raskolnikov's topic in LEGO Star Wars
That looks absolutely amazing, Raskolnikov! What are the overall dimensions of it? It looks like you've replicated the angles and overall shape perfectly, I can understand how it's taken you 6 months to build so far! Have you had any thoughts about the overall weight, and whether the frame will be able to support it? It looks very solid at the moment, but by the time you've added the bridge, engines etc it's bound to be under quite a bit of stress. Please continue to post updates, I'm sure that a lot of members will be interested to see your progress, me included! Keep up the great work, it's going to be a masterpiece! -
Hi mqbui1, that's a vast improvement on the original model. I hope you don't mind but I've embedded one of the photos in your original post so that everyone can view it without having to use the hyperlink It will be interesting to see how it looks in white......

In the UK it was regularly discounted when it was widely available in stores, so I don't think it sold very well. I managed to grab one at 33% off from Amazon a couple of years ago and it's a good set; my only complaint is that the sails which look far too, well, plastic! There's quite a few available on Ebay at RRP currently and, bearing in mind that it's been out of production for nearly a year, I'm not sure it would be a good investment but it's entirely up to you. -

Hi bobskins and welcome to Eurobricks! There are a lot of customs around so you need to use your common sense; as with most things if a deal looks too good to be true it usually will be! That said if you purchase it from a reputable seller on either Ebay or Bricklink it should be fine. There's a good review of the set on Eurobricks (link) which includes some decent images of the minifigures, which may be of interest. Personally I've never owned one as I couldn't justify the cost of it, but I can see the attraction. If you're looking for an alternative, the current one in the UCS Slave 1 is great and available at a fraction of the cost! For future reference there's a general Q&A thread pinned to the top of the forum which is ideal for this sort of thing; I'll merge this with it in a bit -

Hi pittpenguin123 It's still available in the UK, although I get the impression that its days are numbered so I'd be tempted to grab one if you can. If you're just after the minifigure have you tried Bricklink? For future reference there's a general Q&A thread pinned to the top of the forum. I'll merge this with it in a bit -
I just gave in and ordered the new UCS TIE Fighter. I was going to wait until the 22nd to get the first Holiday set, but there's new offer on the website (2 x VIP points, free Stormtrooper Sergeant Polybag and an Episode III poster) . Next on my shopping list is the UCS Sandcrawler, but I'm going to wait for a decent discount on it
-
I'll admit that it's a little on the 'delicate' side, but it's a great looking model and relatively inexpensive for a UCS set.....here's one I prepared earlier (link)

Congratulations Soul, that looks great! The dish looks particularly good - where did you get it from? And when you've finished building your Death Star, how about Bricklinking the UCS version?

Hi Blondie-Wan, as this question seems to have been answered I'll merge it with the general Q&A thread in a bit. It almost seems like a sensible move if TLG did include them, although perhaps it would be better if they used trans-clear instead. This could be one of those moments when a random event resulted in an entirely new approach!
