Is the box on the right of each spinner sitting higher than the one on the left? e.g. when it is in the resting position.

Never had issues with too many balls with the @PG52 version. You certainly shouldn't have them arranged the way you do in that preview image. Neither does it need something to hold the balls back. Also, the carriages of the wheel are incredibly wide. All of these things are basically down to it being made with parts from a single set. The ratchet system isn't needed. Although I will include it in the instructions, I don't use it myself. Have ordered the needed parts, just waiting for the order to appear from LEGO. It is in transit.- 1,124 replies

Great to hear. I was never that fussed about watching this module in action, it was a bit slow, but enjoyed the mechanisms involved. It will be cool to see a fan made version! Keep up the good work! Will be interesting to see if it does work well or not.

Well, when you GBC Loop increases by 120 in a single year, then 1000 is a realistic expectation. So it means you are faced with some difficult decisions regardless. If you are going to have all returning workshop builds each year, once the amount becomes unsustainable, do you start removing the non-workshop modules from the loop to make room? Or do you say ? It shouldn't take long before the GBC loop comprises of more workshop builds than anything else. Humans are surprisingly good at drawing arbitrary lines and "uniqueness" is no different. LEGO Events, I am sure, have to make decisions about what gets a place to be shown. I am sure guidelines can be created. Does it help if I use the word "overly similar"? So, I can only assume you are alluding to Ball Factory v2 v.s. v3. If you can't answer that question for yourself, then I can't help you. Considering that neither are present at most GBC events, it shouldn't be too much of an issues. I remember there being a pink and white Ball Factory v2 at an Australian event. It is a radically different colour scheme, there wasn't another colour variant there, but even if there was, it doesn't change the fact that it is a very complex module and people will be happy to see it, even if there are two identical ones. That said, 10 differently colour ball pumps is a very different proposition. To be honest, after the 3rd of 4th colour variation of Catch & Spin, it starts to feel a little excessive. At some point, it might be worth having the main loop with this years workshop modules and then have a secondary loop with previous workshop modules. Considering they are already clumping them together and sticking them in a less visible area, these seems like a good move, if it wasn't for the love of "New World Record". So something is going to have to happen at some point. The increases in the number of modules each year is getting bigger and I would argue that the current workshop approach is unsustainable in the long run. I would argue that 385 is already too many, but I am sure we will be seeing over 400, maybe even 500 by this time next year. After all, you have to break the previous world record!- 1,124 replies

[GBC] Akiyuki Ball Factory

@Innocity Create yourself a http://www.bricksafe.com account or a https://www.flickr.com one and upload images there. Apparently this forum only accepts pretty much one image, which is meant to be used for an avatar. It is great to have you here and posting, especially with all the modules you have made and done videos of!- 465 replies

Ripe or gone off? :P To be honest, I hadn't even though of having the two rings offset like that. In other news, my word I hate the LEGO Brick & Pieces site. So many errors and each time it bins your order. Error 1: Was due to a piece that is available on there, but if you try and order it, it errors. Error 2: You can't have 2 B&Ps orders at a time. I was trying to do it in stages as a form of testing. Error 3: Access Token Expired. Different to your session expiring. For all 3 messages, it just says: Sorry, there was an error. It doesn't tell you why. I only know why because I actually went into the code and looked. Interestingly, in the case of Error 3, hitting back and then forward on the browser did actually secure the order. It has taken an entire evening trying to do the order.- 1,124 replies

@Doug72 You should probably look further back in this thread. The original design is by @PG52, that is what both @dunes and I have been working off. I have created a digital version of it and will be doing instructions shortly.- 1,124 replies

The workshop modules in a way, are the most important, as that is actually kids building stuff and in many respects, that is what LEGO is all about. I think they can be handy to kill in gaps and a few good ones from each type would be great. Ultimately, my argument is that always striving for more, by just repeating lots of modules, isn't a good way forward and as the numbers balloon, it becomes more of an issue. I just don't think it is sustainable or advisable. If you are winning at the most modules, you are probably already winning at the most unique modules, so just roll with that.- 1,124 replies

Is the whole Guinness World Record thing healthy for GBC runs at events? e.g. ultimately it ends up being: Here is 40 identical tipper modules next to each other! I appreciate the fact that Maico sticks in timestamp bookmarks in his vids to skip past the deluge of identical modules. If a ball is taking close on 75mins to get through a run, that kinda kills off any attempt of "Follow the blue ball" videos. It is nice for an event to say they have the "New World Record", but you know the next event will beat it, as they add another X amount of the same module. I think it would be better if they removed those simple modules which are repeated a lot to make up the numbers. Having multitudes of whatever the workshop GBC module is for that event is fine. Not sure about keeping them past that event though, as a way padding the numbers. I feel as though it would be better to count properly unique modules over total number of modules. Would love to see the breakdown of how many times each module is repeated out of the 400. If I had the money, I would make 1000 of the simplest, dumbest GBC compliant modules, just to make a point and stop the whole world record thing. This sort of thing: The guy, who I really like, even says he tries to put them in the middle and together, basically because they are boring and put the new stuff around the edge. In a single year, that event has gone from 266 to 385 modules. By 2024, it could easily be over 1000.- 1,124 replies

Worked out a diff between the old cup-to-cup and my current basic one. Works out at about £17 worth of new bits. 225 pieces in all. Am wondering if people want the version with the original hopper where the balls end up retiring.

I was right to be worried. The mechanism that drives the cups was at the wrong height, which is why the universal joints had issues. One a side note, this is kinda nice to see!

I wondered if the 24T gear would work or not. Whether it would provide less drag. How do you find it? Point of note, I have done no design work on this module, it is all @PG52's work. I just liked it enough to do a digital version of it with the intention of doing instructions. He has done a number of good modules, there is another one of his I am tempted by. I think I will most likely leave mine as being stand-alone. I just like the idea of having the odd stand-alone module. It also makes it nice for those who don't want to go all in on doing a whole bunch of modules to eventually be able to complete a circuit. I would have left the ratchet in if it made a nice noise, but it doesn't.- 1,124 replies

I am going to end up with so many versions of it. The current version has a bunch of less common pieces which are purely for my personal aesthetic preferences. I think the instructions will keep things common.

This is pretty much complete, even have the universal joints sorted. Although that aspect worries me a bit and will need to see how it is in the real built version. Thinking about it, I will probably change the hopper far left section, to bring it in line with the standard that Akiyuki has created for his own modules. Those panels at the end have always annoyed me. Time to order a few parts that I need.

I will be doing instructions for Cup-to-Cup. Up next will be Catch & Release. After that, it may well be Ball Factory v2. ETA wise, it shouldn't be too long. I need to buy some parts and test it. Can't release instructions without testing it physically.

So, the back end of the ramp is connected in a manner which is different to what you see in the instructions. It is cleaner and more elegant, but is also has a draw back. The 2 connectors: Are shifted across one, as you can see by the blue axle/pin. Problem is, that means you can't effectively attach the other side, which is now 4L wide. From what I can see, it goes: Connector > Liftarm > Bush > Liftarm. Going through those 4 things is a 4L axle. Problem is, that means the final liftarm of the back frame, containing the gears, isn't fixed in place. It just sits on the end of the axle. This seems either a bit lacking or an incorrect assumption. This is as good a view as you get of it:

Managed to get pretty much all of it back together. Collision free. Got to put the drive arm on the back and do a couple of universal joints underneath. I won't be installing the hoses :P Screw hoses! Still debating whether to go grey or black some stuff bellow the hopper. Interestingly, in the Akiyuki version, the Technic bricks carry on under the hopper ramp and support it at the end. Not sure whether to add that or not.

Lego GBC Cardan Gear Module
Ankoku replied to sawyer klegr's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
As I have said, I believe they don't want people to order this way. It isn't in there best interests to sell LEGO in this manner. e.g. when I ordered my stuff, they were already advertising long delays due to the amount of orders via B&P's. I think it is too manual labour intensive. In fairness though, I don't like how their normal shop works either :P From an interface/programming perspective, it is less than ideal. So, who knows. B&P's far worse though.- 41 replies
