  1. So I noticed they used the term throttle, to me that indicates the ability to control the drive motors speed, instead of just on or off as with most technic sets. Is this true or just wishful thinking on my part?
  2. So glad to see all these issues getting worked out before I can even get my hands on the set, lol. That is why I like this forum so much, even if I do have to read all the useless complaining, that often includes no alternatives to the issues. Thanks to those who make all their hard work available to others.
  3. While I sympathize with the builders of all these great models here, I remember how it was before when the two were combined and I really think it's better this way. Forcing people of another theme to view and comment to scale modeling seems a poor way to garner support for this theme. I mean everytime I view the technic forum, I view this one too, I just don't comment as much because I don't have anything to say but I do see how closely related they are. And while the OP is a very talented builder, a class above anything I could ever do, I will refrain from further comment in any of his threads, mostly because I don't care much for his comments. Done here, thanks for allowing me to express my views and be part of this great forum.
  4. Okay, great, been a while. Not sure why I remember not being able to create a thread when I was new here, lol, thanks. Must have been the only other forum I am a member of.
  5. Are we still supposed to comment on the jeep willys or has the subject changed? I really wanted to discuss it further but it seems a moot point now.
  6. Isn't there some required amount of posts or something before a new member can create a new topic?
  7. Great job guys, I have the feeling this will become a very popular thread, lol. I will likely do one of the more complete overhauls straight off and not even bother with the original setup, when I get this set. Thanks for looking into this and offering a better option.
  8. It is a Willy's jeep, lol, any other way just doesn't sound right. Regardless it looks fabulous, enough so in fact that I think I will attempt my own version, thanks for the inspiration. Did you use another vehicles programing or did you create your own custom setup? Sorry but I would have to very much disagree there. In fact just calling it a jeep and making money off it can land you in hot water. Jeep is very protective of their IP almost as much so as LEGO.
  9. Nobody seems to want to answer, lol, so I guess I'll give it a try. They have been completely redesigned, my first set with the new ones was The Forest Machine, my last set with the old ones was the Volvo Wheeled Loader set. Basically they got totally redesigned, you can check pictures to see for yourself. The old ones seemed a bit finicky, the new ones less so, more precise. Also they moved the inlets so even though they are slightly larger, you can actually fit them in tighter spaces. The biggest difference is now they have an axle hole through them, so you can activate them by two different methods. They are definitely much improved, although they still don't click or ratchet into position, it is however easier to make precise adjustments. Hope this helps a little, now lets get back on topic, lol.
  10. Nope wouldn't work, the piece would still stick out of the rim and look funny. Albeit not as far as using a round single stud part to attach it with. Interesting you think it looks too toyish, I did the same thing and I think it looks slightly better and mimics real life low profile tires, more so than the older rims/tires.
  11. If you don't mind some very minor modification of the piece, it would work, even though the diameter of the piece is smaller than the hubcaps. If you look closely at the back of it you can easily see why it won't work. You need to trim away a small amount of plastic so it can fit into the wheel rim. Interestingly enough, a regular 2x2 round plate or brick does fit. So you can make it look like the rim/tires from way back, like late 60's early 70's. Also the 2x2 round tile works. Unfortunately the 2x2 round domed piece with studs on the bottom, does not fit. Which is a real shame because they would be perfect for full "Moon" hubcaps. Hope that helps.
  12. Well with 2573 pieces, you have many options. This is a great moc and it is hard to believe you could add so many functions and make it look as good as it does. Excellent moc my friend.
  13. Please disregard quote box. As far as what is pictured on the box. I am currently working a deal with Jeff Bezos to take me and my Star Wars sets into space so I can properly play with them, as pictured, lol. I am genuinely upset about the recent buggy not performing anything at all like what's pictured. That thing could barely crest a five degree incline and moves with the speed of a desert tortoise. I was able to have a little fun with it last winter though, by ripping through a slight dusting of snow that fell on a frozen lake, wee. It would almost kick up a rooster tail if you kicked it sideways at full speed, downhill, lol. And I am glad to see all this discussion of what appears to be a rather lackluster set to many. It shows just how passionate some can be with their LEGO and maybe can help TLG raise the bar and give the fans what they want, or expect.
  14. It seems to me this set has all the shortcomings of most all previous LEGO sets, of course I have only been back into LEGO for the last six years so I may not be a great judge of that. Really was disappointed with the performance of the recent buggy and at such a high price as well, this set is no different, also that recent 4x4 left much to be desired as well but at least it was $50 less than this set. Anyway, without defending TLG, it just seems like the same old issues, all of which have existed for some time, so what needs to change is not this one set, hell they need to change all of them. I guess the main reason I am not as disappointed as others, is I just assumed this set would be like all the others, overpriced, underperforming, parts pack. I didn't expect this set to suddenly deviate from the norm, so I will likely just buy it, normally don't buy such large sets either, hate to spend over $100 for a set, so this will be a first. I am almost glad everyone hates it, will make it easier for me to get one sooner, lol. No hard feelings towards anyone and I enjoy hearing everyone's opinion, peace, out.
  15. Thanks for mentioning that as I was totally unaware, may have to wait a bit to see what TLG does to address this problem, if anything, before I buy this set.
  16. Now that's an unpopular opinion, lol. Joking of course, over the years I have come to greatly appreciate the moderation on this forum. It is one of the main reasons I have stuck around so long, thanks to all the mods.
  17. I think the Star Wars theme has grown stagnant and redundant beyond saving, also the recent trend to reduce the cost of sets has resulted in fewer parts being used in the builds, effectively turning them into glorified 4+ sets, yet increasing Disney's cut. It has all been done before, to the point of ridiculousness. End the madness TLG, move on, anyone interested in LEGO Star Wars has an infinite supply of sets on the secondary market, from hoarders only interested in turning a profit.
  18. I can see good reason to claim mold production costs being an issue, especially if the part you are making will only be used in a few thousand sets for a limited time. As opposed to a few hundred thousand parts in many different sets for years to come. But I am far from knowledgeable on the subject and have limited information to support my claim.
  19. Ad-blocker, or similar, software running maybe?
  20. Although, not sure how intentional, the Speed Champions, Quattro, from last year and the Top Fuel Dragster, from this year, both have Race Suited, female drivers.
  21. Yep, I struggle to steer correctly without looking at my fingers, whereas I can focus on the actual model while using a physical remote, if that makes any sense.
  22. Lol, yeah me too and is one of the things I absolutely abhor about Speed Champions sets which I also build a lot of. Stickers for headlights even though a lot of real life race cars have simulated or painted/decaled lights. Still I try and change them if I can, sometimes though it seems the only option, especially in system models of smaller scale.
  23. Thank you very much for you rather insightful review, very well done and I hope you continue doing them. Really helps with deciding whether to buy or not, I really appreciate hearing the cons, as it is generally far to easy to heap praise on new sets.
  24. Yes most seem vehemently opposed to stickered headlamps.
  25. Nothing wrong with waiting either, that is what I did with this set, I kind of wanted the 4x4 but decided to wait for this first, very glad I did. And it's all Jim's fault, him and his damn review, lol.
