Actually he is correct. If you read his post in the city thread he mentions what to search for on Google. I have just done this and one of the search results that comes up is for a pdf of the entire catalogue that can be downloaded.
-
I think they look pretty good together actually. The brick built "shop" sign on GE contrasts quite well with the pink lettering on the diner.

Over in the city 2018 rumors and discussion thread somebody is claiming to have seen a leaked copy of the summer 2018 catalogue. Amongst other things he says that creator set 31077 is called modular pastry house and 31078 is a tree house. Not sure if this is legit though.

I have just found the following review. http://zusammengebaut.com/lego-creator-expert-amerikanisches-diner-10260-im-review-42624/ Towards the end of the review there are 2 great photos of the Diner. One shows it sandwiched between AS and PR. It looks great and the main teal tower seems to look nice beside the blue building on AS. The second photo shows DD positioned next to DO and PS. It looks very good next to the Pet Shop.

The following set was a particular favourite of mine as a child. I'm pleased to say I still own my copy of this classic set in pristine condition including the box and instructions. I used to spend hours playing with this and I can remember trying to pose the minifigs with the doors half open as if the driver was leaning out of the cab, similar to scenes from Thomas the Tank Engine episodes. It's a shame this sort of role play would be missing from the new sets and it's just from something as simple as including a door piece which can open and close. I'm sure TLG know what they're doing though and maybe kids nowadays are not as interested in those sorts of little details.

Anyone else think it's a shame that neither of these new trains appear to have proper doors? I know that they don't serve any real function but they just look good and I remember playing with Lego trains as a child in the 80's / early 90's, I would have been very disappointed if my trains hadn't had doors then. The same goes for all City vehicles in my opinion. I always prefer the ones with doors that can be opened and closed.

Thanks for this. Although I had concerns about DD last week I have come to the decision now that I am going to buy it. Just want to wait till the 28th so that I will qualify for the free 60th Anniversary set as well. After watching loads of youtube videos I agree with what you say. DD does look decent next to other modulars, especially the ones with brighter colours like AS and DO.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
As others have suggested Parisian restaurant is a beautiful set, jam packed with details. This was the set that first got me interested in Modulars. It works well alongside other buildings but also makes a good stand alone building. Last years Assembly Square is brilliant though and I'd say my favourite one overall. With the extra width and the appearance of 3 buildings crammed in to one set, it kind of creates a miniature street scene on it's own even if you haven't got any other models in the series. In my opinion, Assembly Square could almost be called a Modular "Starter Set". I doubt you would be disappointed with either of these sets. -
Over in the 2018 Lego Trains thread somebody has posted a link to reddit showing packaging shots of the 2 new City train sets, 60197 and 60198. They both look great.

Both of these look great sets to me. Just wish the passenger train had an engine at both ends. Still looks good though.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Wow, I was all ready and set to buy DD at the end of the month but if there is a chance of cafe corner being rebooted later this year then I might just hang on to my money for now. Just found the following post from Adam White's excellent Bricksfanz website. In this he clearly mentions the rumors of a couple of past modulars possibly getting re-released in 2018. This article was from late last year around the time DD was unveiled. http://bricksfanz.com/build-your-modular-street-with-lego-creator/ -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I remember reading a couple of months ago that there were rumors one of the old modular buildings could be re-released in 2018. Does anybody know, were these rumors based on any evidence or was it just wishful thinking as a result of Taj Mahal getting re-released? -
Free Promo sets from Lego Store
Bricked1980 replied to Bricked1980's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Thank you for the advice. Obviously I am very keen to receive the free 60th anniversary set but I was just worried I might mess this up by ordering other items at the same time which also have different promo offers attached to them. Thanks again for your help.- 4 replies

This really does look awesome. I like how you've used the printed star tiles along the pavement in front of the building. Fantastic!
-
After seeing the shots of DD and DO next to eachother it has made me think, I bet The diner would also look good positioned to the left of assembly square next to the tall blue building.

I am considering buying the new Downtown Diner set from the online Lego store but want to wait until the 28th January so that I will qualify to receive the free 60th Anniversary set 40290. This will be the first set I've ordered from Lego as a VIP member so I should also receive the free VIP minifig keyring that they send out with first orders. On top of this I was also hoping to buy a Lego City set at the same time which should mean I'll get the free City Hot dog vendor polybag as well. My question is ... does anyone know if offers like this can be combined in a single transaction from the Lego store? WIll I still receive all 3 free gifts or would I only qualify for one of them? Not sure if multiple special offers can be combined or not.

My guess is that it will carry on in the direction started by the London Bus and rather than being a classic car it will be another iconic public transport vehicle. Maybe a San francisco tram, New York cab or something like that.

Earlier on in this thread I had argued that I didn't think the Diner would look very good alongside older modulars. I have just been watching this review on Youtube though and towards the end of the video the reviewer connects the set to the DO. I must say it looks pretty good actually next to Detectives Office.
-
Thanks a lot for your advice. I think the DO is probably my least favourite of the 3 sets too. It is also the most expensive and has the least parts. There is just something about DD I find slightly disappointing though. Next to other modulars it just looks simpler and dare I say, a bit "cartoonish", although I understand this is probably just down to the nature of the art deco style and the bold bright colours that have been used. Also I find the interior is a bit lacking compared to past designs too. The main Diner room is nice in general but the cooking area only has 2 red grate pieces to represent cooked bacon and a couple of round tiles as pancakes. If Jamie Berrard had designed this set it would be filled with brick built hamburgers, milk shakes etc and loads of other intricate details. I realise I am in the minority with these opinions as there is clearly a lot of love out there for the Diner. I do think it is a great set (as all the modulars are) and I'm sure it probably looks much better in the flesh. In my opinion it's just not one of the best though.
-
I agree TLG has to create sets that are most appealing to children. It's just disappointing as those smaller houses and shops were a good substitute for collectors who don't have the money and space to collect the large Expert Modular sets. On a plus note, that Pirate themed rollercoaster looks an awesome set!!
-
I am considering buying the Diner but have to admit I'm not totally sold on the look and style of this one and how well it will fit in alongside previous modulars. Even so it does seem to be getting rave reviews online so it's still a set I'm considering getting. Other sets missing from my collection are Detectives Office and Brick Bank. Could anyone who owns all three of these sets recommend which one would be the best to get?
-
I don't own the diner yet but having watched the many video reviews and read people's comments, it seems that this set is fantastic and it's hard to find anybody criticising it at all. One thing is really bugging me about the design though and that is the distinct lack of exposed studs on the ground floor. The 2 transparent cup pieces are simply balanced on top of the bar without any studs to hold them in place and in the booth seats one of the 2 pancakes is just left loose on top of the other one. There are also no studs on the stool/seats to hold minifigs in place and only 2 studs on the floor to position the chef and waitress. I know this seems like a minor issue and I do think the diner is a fab looking set, but I just think it's odd that they'd leave the pancake and bar glasses just rattling around unattached when the rest of the set has obviously been so well thought out and designed.
-
I agree it will be a shame if the new trains don't have proper doors. I might be wrong in saying this but I believe last summers city bus station set (the yellow and green bus) was the first set to reintroduce the train style doors. This door piece has also been used in the brand new city truck and caravan set 60182. Not sure if I've got my facts right there so apologies if not but I find it strange that they'd reintroduce an old train piece and then not use it in the new train sets.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I seem to remember a couple of months ago there were some rumors and discussion that some of the early modulars could be re-released in the same way that Taj Mahal was last November. When Mike mentioned the modular series needing a hotel in the DD designer video, maybe he wasn't hinting at a brand new future hotel set at all but instead could this be a sign that we might get a re-release of cafe corner later this year with a slightly upgraded design including a fully fitted out hotel interior on the upper floors? -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I can't decide whether I want to buy DD or not. There is no doubt it is a brilliant set and according to the reviews that have already appeared online, it features some really fun and innovative building techniques. The only thing holding me back is I can't decide whether I like the look of it when it's positioned next to other modular buildings. I appreciate that they've gone for a different architectural style and I do like the art deco design but my only issue is that there are no other buildings currently in this style or that use a similar colour pallette. Maybe in the future there will be but for now maybe the DD is best treated as a standalone building. Don't get me wrong. I do think it is a fabulous and original set and I'm glad they've mixed things up a bit by going for a different style. Just don't know if I can justify spending the money on a set if it won't look right next to my other sets. I wonder if anyone lucky enough to own the set already would be kind enough to post some pics showing it positioned with other modulars?
