  1. I do not know how I forgot to comment on this one. Shame on me! What a fantastic MOC! The depiction of the canal and the watergate is very detailed and well done, I love it. The two houses are relatively simple, but work so well as a part of the scene - and they have great interiors too. The street is also excellently done with all the minifigs and little scenes between them. A nice continuation of your "silver story", and I like how the cartographer shows up again in your next build.
  2. The WTC approves! Seriously, a beautiful build, both the outside and the interior. The different scenes shown work well together for the story. My favourite parts are the furniture (I will steal a lot of those ideas) and this: I look forward to the IC continuation of this. Would you mind if I include Tristan in my coal mine build (probably not before the end of January)? P.S.: Where does that Mokolei minifig come from?
  3. I can only echo the others: a lovely scene! The hut is interesting, I never thought about using those parts like that. My favourite is the ships WIP hull: combining the prefab hull piece with brickbuilt parts works wonderfully. Some constructive criticism of mine: The vegetation on the cliff looks a bit random, and the grass section on the top right looks weird. Nothing serious, personally I just would prefer a more natural look. The transition from land to water on the beach is very abrupt. You could use different colours of blue and sand/tan to make it look more natural, or work with transparent pieces for waves on the shore. Overall a nice build, I am looking forward to more from you!
  4. Is that so? I did not know that. There is no independence movement I know of, but I guess it would fit Count Mesabis character to ignore this custom - or even see himself as king.
  5. An interesting introduction indeed, welcome! May I ask where the hat, head and torso of your sigfig come from?
  6. Going by "historical standards", this would be a fifth rate ship. By the BotBS standards this should be a class 7 in my opinion. Your ship looks very close to the Margot shown there.
  7. Thanks! It's nothing special, just 2x2 tiles with a center stud arranged like that. Wait, what? This text was provided by Gonzo "Drunknok" Thompson, chief editor of the "WTC Monthly" - which is known for its neutral reporting, and truth, nothing but the truth. Are you insinuating anything less than the highest standards of reporting here? Drunknok would be... irritated, at best. You do know that we have quite a bit of incriminating material on the good Dr. Thaum, do you? He only has himself to blame then. Oh wait, he is dead! Thank you.
  8. Mesabi Monument, licensed as small arts&culture.
  9. With the WTC getting more important and the word of the heroic Count Mesabi - hero of the Juniper Wars, the visionary founder of the WTC, a spearhead of Corringtons glory - spreading through the Brickseas, it was only a matter of time until the first monument in Count Mesabis name was erected. It stood proud at the center of Mesabi Landing, guarded by two ceremonial WTC Infantry, displaying an exquisite bust of its noble founder: Some detail shots: And a view from above: Some more under the spoiler tag: ================================================================================================================== A small arts&culture build for Mesabi Landing. Nothing special here (except for the stairs maybe). I wanted to do something like this for a while already, and finally got it done yesterday. I tried to keep the whole build rather simple, while still making it look a little bit impressive. The restriction to black and white is intentional, with the green palmtree and red banners giving the colourful contrast. The different hats for the WTC Infantry were a last-minute decision - WTC Marines would not make sense for guard duty, even in front of an important monument, and these hats added that little bit more "fancy" necessary to the Infantry. C&C are welcome.
  10. There will be a new issue of the WTCM out in mid January, so I want to remind everybody of two things: If you want to write a "letter" to the editor, there is still time to do so, but do not wait for too long. PM me before the 10th of January if you want a reply to your letter in the next issue. The incentive for setting up a residence in Mesabi Landing will no longer be active once the next issue is out. So if you have an idea for a settler in Mesabi Landing: again, there is still time, but do not wait too long. If anybody has a topic he wants to see featured: please PM me. I am always open to suggestions... as well as bribes.
  11. I take that as a "yes please".
  12. Can I quote you on this fine example of Oleander barbarity in the next "WTC Monthly"?
  13. Pigs are way more intelligent and social than horses. It is you who is barbaric! P.S.: You are also correct.
  14. Why? Horsemeat is delicious. Like, for reals.
  15. The account summary for December 2017 is somewhat messed up at the moment. @Phred?
  16. True, it could be another pirate themed set, but I doubt it. The rollercoaster does that already, and even has a ship in it (could be wrecked though). To me this one sounds more like a take at City/Town themes about ships. There was a big underwater theme, lots of ships, multiple harbour sets. Lots to play with.
  17. I have to stay impartial and can not comment on this yet. But:
  18. From what I can make out, that is a nice set on its own - but also a treasure chest (pun intended) for Pirates fans! I think the fort could stand alone, and the rock skull with the wrecked ship could work as a little island scene as well.
  19. Thanks for the comments everybody! Mordo comes 1:1 from the "Doctor Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum" set - I changed nothing about the minifig, not even the name. Despite all the attention I give him, Mordo is only one of my side characters. My (neglected) main character and sigfig is Reinhard Wolffson.
  20. Again, merry Christmas to all.
  21. Congratulations, that is always an achievement to be proud of.
  22. I want to wish every single one of you a merry Christmas, happy holidays and a relaxed end of the year for you, your family and all those close to you. And the "WTC Monthly" wants to honour this occasion with a special edition:
  23. A lovely MOC, and a great little piece of background to build on. Concerning "decent photography": I am by no means an expert, and my own skills in that regard are rather shoddy. But using a simple lightbox really helps a lot (you can get one for relativel little money on 'bay), as does an actual camera with macro function. @Ayrlego does spectacular pictures of his builds, so he could provide much better advice I guess.
  24. Our personell can be very... convincing.
